Hardware connection of G2 backlight - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'm currently trying to repair a water-damaged G2. The battery was dead and I replaced it. Now the phone works, except for the fact that the backlight doesn't light up. LCD and touch are working fine (with the flash of my phone I can see and interact with the ui), so I'm trying to understand if the led of the backlight deteriorated or if the problem is that it doesn't receive the power.
So my question is: does someone know which connector and which pins carry the power to the backlight? I want to run a simple test and put 3.3V - 5mA to these pins and see if something lights up

I think that the connector for the backlight is this.

That seems to be the case, since the connectors are labeled A and C. I've just tried to light it up but it remains dead, that is probably it. Thank you. Too bad i have to buy a full lcd+digitizer in order to replace the lcd display.

Im highly irrational when it comes to cooking,l) everything is apples and oranges. This tech stuff is tricky. Who out there can help me with black screen on ZTE PRESTIGE N9132. IT lights up at the beginning of a USB connection. Then backlight goes out. Backlight is limited to the ZTE power up screen, then out!

Hermes bricked? Toasted? Need assistance urgently!

Before anyone jumps on me, I've been going through the Wiki and forums extensively, and found just one similar problem. Which wasn't solved...
My HTC TyTN/Hermes 200 won't boot up anymore. It is totally dead. I even can't get it into bootloader mode. Screen stays blank and the LED is off.
Put the (3 months old) battery in another Hermes to test it, and it's at 100% charge.
My Hermes shows a steady red LED when it's plugged into power without the battery in, and no LED at all when the battery is installed. The red LED turns off when the battery is installed while there's power going into the unit.
I've left the battery out for at least an hour, plugged it back in, same results. Like the other guy I tried the "pull power, pull battery, plug in power, plug in battery, reset" trick http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...6469&p=1077622 - to no avail.
Does anyone have any last resort ideas on how to get it to at least come back up to a boot loader screen ?
check the battery contact points on the phone. the hermes shows a red led when its plugged in but without a battery
... have you ever dismantled your hermes? your screen ribbon cable may have dead tracks or not be connected properly
just a test on the opposite side of the battery connectors with battery removed press firmly without putting pressure on the LCD, this worked for me when i had a white screen on power up.
if this fixes the problem you may need to actually dismantle the back and put some flame retardant electrical tape on the back over the existing tape to add an extra layer of pressure and retension

Yes, I have cleaned the contact too, nothing. And the battery is OK for sure, my colleague's TyTN runs on it without any problem.

In fact I have, I have totally dismantled and reassembled my TyTN yesterday afternoon, nothing.
the only other problem may be that when being dismantled you may have damaged some sensitive components, Electro Static Discharge will fry sensitive CMOS components, they do not like it at all, whenever dismantling you should wear an earth strap, any time i dismantled mine it was on a workbench with a static mat and i was earthed through the mat.
but this is one possibility, the only other idea is to swap main board and displays with another that works, finding someone willing to allow you to do this with a working hemes is the tough part.
thats as much all i can think of for now
R.I.P. my trustful Hermes 200
Thanks all for your assistance. I have come to the conclusion that my sweetheart is no longer among us. May she rest in peace.
I have obtained a (2d hand) replacement yesterday. May this one last longer.
I'll keep the old TyTN for replacement parts.
Oh well...

[Q] Display frozen, but files load on computer

Hi everyone,
I sat down with my Nook in my back pocket today, and when I got up it was frozen on the startup screen, displaying "Nook by Barnes & Noble" and 5 dots with the first filled in. Since then the screen has not changed no matter what I do.
The device is responsive in two ways. Firstly, when plugged into a computer, the contents of the My Files and screensavers folders are visible and interactive. Secondly, when plugged into a computer or wall socket, the charging light comes on orange, and if the power button is held down for 10 seconds it turns green briefly, then goes back to orange. No change whatsoever is observed on the display, not so much as a flicker.
So, that being the case, any suggestions for fixing it? If the current display cannot be salvaged, is it worthwhile to try to buy a dead unit and Frankenstein a functional Nook? If so, how much could I expect to pay?
Thanks in advance!
New NSTs are currently going for £30 in the UK, so I'd put that at the top end of what to pay for a used one.
There's a 0.01% chance that the display connector needs to be reseated.
Open up your Nook and try reseating the connector.
Thanks! I'll go ahead and try reseating the display connector as soon as I can find a T5 screwdriver.
My Nook gets display frozen as well
My Nook Glowlight is in the exact situation as the OP.
I tried to reseat the connector to the screen on the mainboard by opening the rear case, no luck.
Any suggestions?
update: I replaced the mainboard with the one from my fathers, who has the same glowlight, it works. So it seems something is wrong on my own mainboard, not the whole main board though. Have no idea where to fix it.
I have a same issue with Nook Touch...its stuck half on "connect to charge" screen and only 25% display is working. Is there any guide on reseating the display connector?
Reseating the display connector is only a shot in the dark.
I don't think that that is the problem, but it would be stupid if it were.
There could be many things that cause the display to die.
Power circuitry is always suspect and the eInk uses higher voltages.

[Q] Nexus 4 do not turn on after LCD/Display crashed

Hello guys!
I've dropped my nexus 4 and the LCD crashed completly. Then i bought a new LCD (only LCD) and tried to change by myself, but everything went wrong, i couldn't attach it with the glue that they sent me and i saw some cracks on the display.
After the "change", the phone does not turn on anymore, just blink the notification led with red color.
Now i'm thinking to buy the full display (LCD+Display) and try to change it again, i mean, it can't be hard to do, you just have to connect the cables and close (that's what i think).
Is there a way to discover if the full display will bring my phone back to life? :crying:
Thank you!!
Up :crying:
up
The blinking red LED could indicate a fully discharged battery. Try leaving it on a 2.0 amp charger for a few hours to see if you can get it to boot.

I've tried it but the phone still the same. Maybe it's happening due the display is broken (cracked in the top right). I've installed a new one lcd thinking this could be the problem but now i'm thinking it's the display. Is there any way to test the motherboard and see if it's ok? If i could test the motherboard, i could decide between buy a new complete display (lcd + display) or another phone.
Thanks!
I don't know of any way to test the motherboard without a working display.
Heeyy, i've tried a new one charger, the phone blinked the red light a few minutes and then the screen turned on, but unable to see anything, due the broken display, but² the power button dont do anything, not even to turn the screen off. By this we can conclude that the motherboard is ok, and the problem is the display, right?
I've attached the photo of the screen. The white traces is where the display is "cracked", not really cracked, it's like a kneaded cloth, but it matches the cracks that the screen had.
As a test of the motherboard, let the phone charge with the new charger for a couple of hours. Then, try and power up the phone in fastboot mode, and type "fastboot devices" from a command prompt. Hopefully, the command will return the phone's serial #.

[HELP] Water Damage Repair and Decoding LED Light Pattern

Unfortunately my 5 month old phone dropped into water and stopped working :crying:. After much research, I have successfully opened up the phone following this excellent demo without causing any damage to the screen and body.
As shown in the pictures below there are rust near the connection slot between screen and the mother board. Actually that is the only place I've notice any visual anomaly. After thoroughly dissemble everything from the mother board and clear all the rust with 99% alcohol then putting them back together, I'm still stuck on the following status:
- When disconnected from wall charger, and long press the power button, the LED lights had a very brief green flash, then went dark. After that when I touch the finger reader in the back, the machine vibrate as if it is trying to read the finger print, but the screen stay black (dead).
- When connected with the wall charger, the LED first show flashing red light for about one minute, then stay solid red for another few minutes, then turn off. Again, the finger print reader is responsive to touch, but the screen still stay dead.
- Finally, when connected with the 360 camera, the camera lights up and the internal fan also spin up, making me believe that the phone battery could be functional.
I tried pressing down power + volume down/up buttons simultaneously for 30 seconds to enter the bootloader, but the symptom stay the same, the screen remains dead.
I've also purchased a brand new screen replacement from a reliable vendor and tested it on the phone, still the same symptom. So I assume it is not the screen issue.
At this point, I would appreciate any help in:
1. Diagnostic. What does the 1-flash green light, flashing red light and solid red light means? Does the fact that finger print reader vibrate upon touch tell anything about what's working and what's not?
2. Other way to check the battery?
3. If I want to purchase a motherboard, given that I'm on AT&T, does the replacement need to come from another AT&T phone? I found one on Ebay where the seller mentioned the IMEI is clear but carrier is unverified. How does the comparability work?
Thank you for your help!
Hi! I would like to help you with this problem. First we would need a better picture of the motherboard, where the damage as been created. (Screen port)
Second, you could always give a call to Essential, I think they offer a replacement for 200$? Still cheaper than a new phone and don't worry about purchasing a phone that doesn't come from AT&T, I have the Telus model and it's the same as every other essential phone on the market.

No power, notification LED flashing

Hey.
I've tried to fix my phone screen's digitizer (first idea was to unplug the screen and plug it back in, which kinda worked). The phone worked fine while disassembled and I did a stupid thing - I turned it off by disconnecting the battery, as the power button was not working while disassembled. After I put it back together it did not turn on anymore (disassembling it again does not help). The notification LED is flashing while I'm holding the power button, it also starts flashing when I plug in the charger.
What could be the issue here?
EDIT: I figured out the issue - I broke off a tiny component on the motherboard while putting it back together. Took me a while.
How is the phone now? Did you replace the motherboard or lcd display? Did you repaired? Is the phone fixed?
