Haven't tested it myself but there are reports of magisk not working. You can try and verify though as magisk seems to work on every other platform(even custom 7.1 ones)

You can also use emotion kernel r22 beta and mickey kernel 5.11
Does it work with Rogers lastest update Nov 30 2015
Thank you so much for this, I have been waiting to root for months, but I wonder does it work with the latest software upgrade from Rogers released Nov 30 2015?

Yes it does, I am running the latest update and I have full root. And as I mentioned before you don't have to use the kernel op referenced, all you have to do to achieve root is flash twrp/cwm recovery in odin, then flash either emotion kernel, mickey kernel, or beast mode. Then after that you flash supersu and you will have full root. Very simple, root has been available for sm-n915w8 since august

just check in settings - about, there should be something that tells you what oeminfo you should use

No, there isn't. You can not root or flash recovery to any Blu R1 HD with stock ROM version 8 or higher. Most of us rooted our phones when they were version 6.

Use mi flash and go back stock, clean all and lock. But before you flash recover whatever data you can in TWRP
To break it all down, here's what has happened.
8.1 beta gets leaked by someone from Xiaomi.
Non-beta users were able to download it and flashed it on their devices.
Xiaomi gives May update delayed. Already end of May and Mi A1 are just receiving them right now.
May update has 3 stages.
1st is around 80+ mb.
2nd update is at 50+ mb.
3rd May update reverts 8.1 to 8.0.0 for non-beta users. Size is 1+ GB.

They did it when upgrading the V10 from 5.x to 6.x. So for sure there's no ARB? Don't want to screw myself for root etc since there aren't many devs it seems left, for the VS995 anyway.
