I had a small OTA update on Christmas Day ( 12MB ) which I installed ( the Security Patch level went to December 1st, possibly build g935fxxu1bplb ? ) - however afterwards I started to get complete screen corruption ( grey digital snow) when waking the phone back up after it had been left for 30 minutes. Once the screen was corrupted you had to power the phone down and it would eventually reboot OK.
I did a factory wipe and reset in the hope that would fix the screen corruption it but the same thing happened then even with no apps or other software installed.
After the factory reset It then progressed to corruption of the screen all the time to the point where the screen is black and 'off' and doesn't work at all now.
Anyone else having any problems with the Dec 1st Security update similar to this?
Was this a carrier update? Which?
It's unlocked so update should not have been carrier specific and nothing appeared different afterwards other than the increasingly frequent screen corruption. Currently used with 3 UK.
I also installed the 12Mb update a few days ago (unlocked AT) and since then I had 1 issue yesterday during the night:
Phone randomly rebooted and while doing so I had some kind of gray bar at the top of the screen.
Now all is working fine again, let's see...
No updates here, I'm on UK unbranded, still on November security patch...
I updated my (unlocked) handset this morning. No issues so far, but will report back here if there are any.

Ok dropped phone off with a Samsung Service Centre to take a look today - having seen pictures of the corrupted screen they are expecting to have to swap the main system board as it no longer powers up.
Got this update too yesterday but via the Samsung Windows application. Not noticed any issues to date.
Just to update - have got my phone back from the Cambridge Samsung Service Centre, no details on the fix with the packaging but I assume as it was a new system board as that was what was discussed when I dropped it off.
Setting the phone back up - having installed the apps, it has just re-applied the 12MB December update .... but I've just seen a corrupted screen ( Rotating portrait -> Landscape ).
It didn't crash the phone but the fact I've seen it again is worrying. Going to be speaking the the SSC tomorrow about this - and confirm if the repair was a new mainboard, or if they've just reflashed the original one.

Hi Guys,
a couple of weeks ago i noticed some radio "crash", the phone signal disappeared and slowly come back up (no issue on wifi so far).
this got worst when the frequency of this event raised, and one day, after a long pen and paper session with my friend i noticed my phone was off and the battery dead but i knew the battery was low, i thought "strange i didn't see the low battery notice" and i plugged it, booting it up.
days later things started to get worse, after incremental radio crash the phone shut down immediately (roughly at 80/70%)
while showing this issue i also had some software issue: time/date reset to 1-5-2005, wallpaper back to the animated on "phase beam" while i tried both a personal one and some from the stock gallery.
i upraded my baseband+bootloader to the latest, and then i passed from the latest Cyano to the latest Paranoid, and back to 4.2.2 stock
finally this morning i had a pc while the phone gave the issue, so i could take both logcat and bugreport
attached both and a screen of battery behavior
the fact that also some software component are influenced make me crazy.
hope some of you could give me a hint
re-attached the bugreport
It started as a weird feeling. I thought that I had just forgotten that I had changed a setting or two. But now I am certain that the phone changes some settings by itself.
Knock on keeps turning off by itself . I did also enable led notifications a couple of hours ago only to find them turned off now , after I plugged in my device (I didn't see the red light when I locked the screen). I am completely stock . I haven't received the latest OTA update though. Do I need to see a shrink or something strange is going on with the phone's software ?

I suggest you get an exorcist for your phone immediately, anyways all joking aside did this just begin or has it been happening for a while now, have you installed any weird apps/modules(if rooted), as a last resort you can backup apps(via carbon if not rooted or titanium backup if you are rooted) and music/videos/pictures to your pc and factory resetting to see if the issue persist

Thank you once again for you answers. I have the phone 3-4 days as I wrote to you in the other thread ! It has been happening from day one. I am completely stock , no root , no nothing. I don't want to hard reset but it may be obligatory in this case.
Yes, I have seen the LGG2 reset settings as well

I am so glad to see someone else posting about this. This happens to me so often and is so frustrating.
I see several different changes happening fairly frequently:
1. Date/time settings get changed (auto date time gets disabled, auto time zone gets disabled, use24 hour gets enabled, various combinations of these 3 settings change)
2. Knock on/off gets turned off
Less frequently:
1. Auto rotate turns off
2. Home Screen Background resets and/or theme changes
3. Allow Home screen looping gets disabled
I have Verizon LGG2, rooted,
Android 4.4.2
Baseband version: VS98024A-M8974A-AAAANAZM-2.0.20046
Kernel Version 3.4.0-perf-gdf89a11
Build Number: KOT491,VS98024A
have been unsuccessful updating to the latest OTA - figured it was because of root, after uninstalling root still had the error.
Not sure if that is related.
Both the reset issue and the lack of OTA update are annoying, but not so problematic that I want to reset my phone.
If anyone has seen this issue and/or has suggestions (including reset, I suppose), I'd appreciate it.
Thanks i n advance.

My Note4 was updated to Lollipop about 2 weeks ago and it was running ok until 3 days ago where it keeps on restarting, freezing up, not responsive etc.
The last application that I installed was "FACEBOOK GROUP" but I'm sure this isn't the problem because of the factory reset as explained below.
I have done a factory reset, but I reinstalled all the applications (except Facebook Group), but the problem still persists. It even restarting without it's being touched. Per day, it could restart up to 15 times.
Most of the problem appears when the phone goes into an idle state and won't turn on unless I do a battery pull (like Blackberry).
But sometimes it would respond from the idle state after a 20-30 seconds.
I did find an article that the motion and gestures are causing the unresponsive issue, in which I have followed and disabled all the motion and gestures, this doesn't help. Problem persists.
I have talked to the Samsung Tech support and they told me that I would have to bring it to the service center in Singapore (I live in Jakarta) and they would need to diagnose it. I did mentioned that I want a new phone but they said that they don't have exchange policy. This is really bad because Iphone has an exchange policy, why doesn't Samsung have one too??
Anyone in Singapore maybe have the same issue? or have a knowledge about the exchange policy?
Have you tried uninstalling Facebook Group from your Note 4? It seems to me that the Facebook Group App must be causing some sort of problem with your Note 4.

After I did a factory reset. I didn't install Facebook Group
UPDATE 1 :
I uninstalled DU Speed Booster, and the problem seems to be better, but still hangs after unplugging from charger.
Does anyone use DU Speed Booster with Lollipop?

OK, seems like DU Speed Booster may have messed with the system settings of your phone somehow. Are you using the stock firmware that came with your Note 4?

Yes sir, it is the stock rom.. and it's not rooted. Still original except that it has been updated to Lollipop.
Uninstalling DU Speed Booster seems to make it a little better, but occasionally it still freezes and restart but it's not as many times as before.
If the system setting has been messed up, then I will do another hard reset tonight and see if that would fix the issue. I'm tired of waiting for the phone to come alive after idle or when it restarts by itself.
UPDATE 2 :
I did a factory reset last night and left it to sleep while it was updating stock applications (I have not installed any of my application).
This morning when I woke up. I couldn't turn on the phone. It was frozen and it has a solid red LED light on the top left. This happens quite frequently before too. So I'm not sure what the issue is. Btw, my note 4 is the first batch. Bought it when it first came out.
I had to take the battery out and started the update again.
Then it got restarted when I tried to swipe my finger to enter the homepage.
Why doesn't Samsung give an exchange policy? their rival Apple does..
Yeah, I think you need to return your device to Samsung for repairs. As for why Samsung doesn't have a exchange policy, because retailer's tend to have a exchange policy where if they can't fix your device they will replace it with another one. Since retailer's give you a 1 year standard retailer's warranty with the purchase of any electronic device. Apple has a exchange policy, because as well as being a device manufacturer they are also a retailer for their own devices.
My Note 4 has been a lot better since I reseated the SD Card. I did that before too.
I'm starting to think that my SD Card was not reseated properly causing the system to hang / freeze.
As of now, I think the culprit is the SD Card.. I will monitor and update again.
I think I posted too quicky.
The problem still persists, so it is not the 'reseating' of the SD Card.
I notice though, the problem with hanging, restarting, MOSTLY occurs when the battery is less than 40%. And sometimes, it won't even start / turn on even after I take out the battery. But when it is succeeded, sometimes, it would come out with the message (shown in the attachment). Every time this comes out, I have to take out the battery and wait 30+ seconds before trying again.
I really don't know what is the problem with the phone and this phone is bought overseas. Local Samsung Store can't fix it because they don't have the base band or software.
Please note that this phone has never been dropped / root. I have taken care of it carefully.
I'm really disappointed.
It does seem like a hardware error either with the internal memory chip or the battery. You could try replacing the battery to see if that would fix the problem, I doubt that would work. But I would prefer to just send it back to Samsung for repairs as they have the equipment to fix the problem.
Alternatively you could install Kies 3 from the Samsung website onto your computer and use that to do a firmware reinstall of your Note 4 and see if that helps. If that doesn't work then you really don't have much of a choice other than sending back to Samsung for repairs.
Similar Problem
My Note 4 has locked up three times after a full charge.. I noticed a solid RED LED after the phone fully charged and attempts to turn it on are unsuccessful, it's frozen. Nothing I do can wake it up short of removing and replacing the battery. The Lollypop update was done over a month ago so I doubt that is the cause. I'm still checking things out but it has occurred to me that if this happens to the S6, what would one do if you can't remove the battery?????
hi all,
since a day i have an extremely annoying issue with the note3 (sm-9005)
first, when it boots - it takes ca.10 minutes. stuck on the samsung animated logo.
then the black screen appears with the status bar (which i can drag down). normally i should have a lock screen appearing. but it just remains black. and in the status bar i have a message " you can now safely remove sd card" and "tap to enter knox". nothing happens when tapping those two...
can i play back an update from the SD card so that FW renews and i don't have to so factory reset and reinstall everything?
(ps. when connecting phone to a pc it shows no disks inside the phone so that if it still was locked...)
thanks in advance!

well same thing as one would do using kies, only somehow without kies. i saw in the recover boot an option "apply update from external storage" and was wondering what file could i use for that?
i have SWC region on my device...
Answer is no via above.
Firmware update is via Kies or Odin .
Alternative is custom rom via custom recovery .

UPD: after some searching i was able to unlock the device through samsung's findmomybile. however, half of the apps are missing, most of the ones which are not missing do not work, etc...
i guess not much left but factory reset. hopefully these are not corrupt internal storage problems.

Did anyone come up with a solution to this other than findmymobile? I have had the same problem with my Note 3, e.g. taking 5-10 mins to load up from power off, the dreaded black screen with the power / wifi / etc icons shown on the top. My Note 3 was password protected as well, meaning I can't get into it even with Kies. I have the latest stock firmware installed.
I hadn't installed any apps to my phone before it died, however I do recall a security update being installed earlier in the day (this looked like an official Android one).
Any ideas? I went along to a Samsung Service Centre for help and they had told me that they had seen at least 5 cases of this on a Note 3 over the last two days.

I did not receive any response from anyone from anywhere. So I tried on myself and started manipulating every corner. I tried bluetooth and I could backup my contacts. It was the first victory.
I restarted into safemode by holding down the Down Volume for about 10 minutes! I wanted to try calling via pc via bluetooth. Just as a blind try. Meanwhile I saw a Knox notofication I had seen before so I just clicked carelessly. Vow!! The Knox Lock Screen was there blinking behind some error messages. I tried my lock pattern but nothing happended. I tried more and more, I was thinking this may corrupt the LCD! because it was blinking and went on off rapidly.
I saw that a counter is reducing. 20 attempts left.. 19 attempt... I worked hard till 4 or 3 then some message popup saying knox may be uninstalled. I said who cares? and went on. finally knox was uninstalled. I continued manipulating other available corners of the Note 3 and after a while I restarted and vow!! It was like back to life!
I came here writing for those who are out there seeking every corner of the web for a liitle bit of information.
I backed up my stuff and did a factory reset. It seems fine now.
I suggest manipulating every possible sequence of events. It will pop up some error and then the answer may rise!
best wishes
in my case i unlocked it with findmymobile, backed up stuff to SD card and did factory reset without much further thinking.
phone works fine until today
Hey, I had been stuck with the issues as mentioned shortly after I upgraded to Nougat via ODIN (SM-G935F/probably Netherlands, Unlocked, no root, no mods). The phone would work fine and then suddenly start overheating and resultant bootloops and black screens when in certain standard apps like Google photos and Facebook. This would happen with no fixed pattern, sometimes everyday, sometimes once a month). I did cache clears and full resets but the problem would reappear. Phone stopped getting OTAs as well, although it got a few in the beginning. Security patches. Recovery typically showed updating and didn't progress.
Finally I decided to flash another latest stock ROM via ODIN. Now a few days have gone by without a sign of the previous troubles (God, I hope it stays like this).
My question after this long story, is this possibly a hardware problem, in which case I'll sell it off before it reappears. Or could it just be a software glitch solved by the new ROM, in which case I'd like to keep the phone. Which is more likely, I really want to keep the phone as the S8 upgrade is not worth the money for me, in my opinion.

Sounds like a bad flash. The new flash removed the issues, so you're good to go.
Guess what guys, the problem returned after about 3-4 weeks. Appeared randomly while using FB. Phone went into bootloop and overheating again, and even when it restarted properly, it would go into the same cycle when I started using apps like messaging, whatsapp and facebook.
I booted in recovery and cleared the cache after about 25 reboots. One thing I noted was that recovery initially showed an update running, which got stuck first, and then completed after another reboot and entering into recovery. Has been stable for the past 24 hours now, like it never happened. I can't figure out what the issue could be, since now I can do whatever I want and it won't overheat like before or reboot.
Feels like a software issue since it disappears like it was never there. Hardware rarely does that. Is there a possibility that storage of some sort is bad at some point, and when data is written over that point, the problem appears. I'm shooting in the dark but can't figure it out otherwise.
Yup.
Seems you have memory issues.
Go to Samsung service and replace memory chip.
