Phone reinstalls carrier apps after custom rom - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have a 935F that originated from "Claro" (Puerto Rican Carrier).
I have flashed a custom rom (SuperStock), but after having wiped and flashed, the phone reinstalls all the carrier apps.
Does anyone know how to stop this from happening and remove them altogether if possible?

after flashing the rom and when you sign in to your google or samsung account, it will ask you to restore saved apps say no. It maybe possible to edit the saved data depending on how much access you have.
For a more permit delete delete all the apps you do not want then do a sync so that only apps that you want are saved.

It actually reinstalls them before the phone finishes booting after having flashed, so there's no way to prevent it from installing. I don't think it's syncing anyway, because there's no internet connection.
Edit: I was finally able to flash a different rom (after trying to figure out why it didn't work) and it no longer installs the carrier bloat.

changed Sim card and broke apps

Hi, using a custom ion rom on my vodafone magic (unlocked).
Recently ported my number to t-mobile uk and today put the sim in.
All my apps broke and lost settings.
I did a wipe hard reset and I am still missing the gmail app (shows a box and says app is not installed).
Anyone else experience this?
Factory wipe.
If you've done this procedure already.
Might I suggest possibly ROOTING your phone for the sake of being able to install a custom ROM...not to mention being able to have that GMail application pushed to your phone from that packaged update.
Just a suggestion.
As for the SIM card switch being the potential cause of that issue. That is highly unlikely that it would REMOVE or corrupt the application. However, your SIM card is linked to the service, the service links the data, and the data is used by Google to forward their servers to a mobile device. It could be a number of things really.
I would try and wipe, reboot, and then go from there.
Hi, the phone was already rooted.
Anyway, I decided I needed something working so flashed a Hero ported rom, and lo and behold it is pretty slow.
Guess I'll be looking for some ion/magic roms.

[Q] Please Help. Very strange problem with my phone.

Hello,
I'll start from the beginning so maybe someone can figure out exactly whats going on with my Galaxy S4.
So my carrier is Telus and I had just a rooted 4.2.2 and everything has been fine since day 1 of rooting. 2 nights ago I noticed the stock Google Edition ROM was out and I decided to give that a try. I flash the 4.3 Google Edition ROM which said Canada (Bell/Telus/Rogers) and I was using that for about 24 hours. Everything was great, however I noticed I lost my 4G/LTE connection. So without being connected to WiFi I had no data plan basically, everything was on, carrier was selected all the APN settings were correct so I was lost. Completely confused as to why this is happening I just decided to restore to stock, unroot and start from scratch. I used Oden to restore the stock ROM from Telus back to android 4.2.2
Now, once that came back, still the same problem and what I noticed was it installed all the Bell Mobility stock software and when I plug the phone into Kies it's listed as a Bell Mobility device. How is this possible? I used the Telus stock ROM to restore, once that I've used before without any issues at all.
Any help would be appreciated, if you have any questions let me know.
Thanks.

I'm wondering if the 4.3 rom managed to update your EFS or CSC data... I'm no expert in these areas (and I'm on AT&T), so I don't think I can be much of a help. But this might be something to look into. Also be sure you wiped data too (you didn't mention it).
Also, I'm wondering if you have the correct Odin file for your carrier (if there is such a thing as a difference?)? I know with older handsets, it was possible for AT&T to push out APN settings, etc. from the carrier's end, forcing updates to your handset. Not sure if that's still possible or not.
If you have a nandroid backup of your ESN partition, you might try to restore that. Don't try to restore someone else's backup, or you'll mess up your IMEI and such.

Yeah sorry I forgot to mention some stuff. I have wiped data and factory restored before flashing the stock ROM in Odin as well as wiped everything again as soon as its complete. Right when it boots up the APN info is all wrong. I have data now if I set it up myself but its just sitting on H+ rather than LTE/4G. Also it seems to install the Bell bloatware rather than the Telus bloatware, so something within the phone still thinks its a Bell phone. I'm stumped, so is the Telus guy who was trying to help me with it today. I know I'm using the right .tar stock file from Telus because I've used it before. Man this really stinks!
EDIT: I'm not sure if this is valuable info to add but I just noticed when doing a factory reset it says the CSC that's applied and its labelled as BMC which is Bell Mobility. This is a Telus phone so I'm assuming my problem is somewhere right from there.
ALRIGHT!
I fixed it... I found a tutorial on how to change the CSC with the key command
"*#272*Device IMEI#"
Then it showed a list of carriers and I chose the right one, rebooted and it restored everything and presto. 4G/LTE is back on.

Mobile data not working n900w8

So I had this problem with a custom ROM in the past so I changed to a different one.
However, the rom didn't 'click' with me so I decided to stick with the stock ROM.
I downloaded it from sammobile.com, it's N900W8 so I downloaded the Telus variant (my carrier)
However upon installing the rom, the carrier bloatware it came with was Bell.
The filename does end with _TLS so I know I downloaded the right one. I don't know if this is the source of the issue but I NEED my data to be working; I'm paying for 6gb and I can't get any of it.
I'm redownloading the Telus stock ROM as we speak, and I'm wondering if I need to factory reset every time I flash it with Odin.

Look up the code to change your CSC, and I think you can just switch back to Telus. That's how it worked on my S4 anyways.

If I'm not mistaken, a CSC is a code that is like this, correct?
N900W8OYACNB7
Because if that is the case, both firmwares have the same CSC according to sammobile.

Err that's not what I meant. There's a dialer code that you can type in to change your CSC to the Telus one. Doing that will wipe your phone and switch to the Telus carrier bloat. That's what happened when I was using a Bell sim on my Rogers S4.. wiped way too many times.

So I tried checking my voicemail and from what I know, everything is still with Telus. The only issue is the bloatware, which is not much of an issue. The biggest problem I have is that my phone refuses to connect to LTE (not a hardware problem since I've had it connect before)

How would I be able to check?
Also I forgot to mention, there isn't any error message if I try to connect via mobile data.
It simply says "wi-fi and mobile data are turned off" in Chrome.

Oh. Well, another problem came up.
Data is being used at an exponentially greater rate than normal.
I downloaded an app that is 30mb and it recorded on my data usage at 70mb. :S

My usage is telling me it was all from Play Store. It was around 70mb, I went back into play store and browsed for literally 30 seconds, went back and it was 72 (no downloads in background). Is it possible that this issue is caused by a custom kernel?

Maybe the Play Store is updating? If you have time, maybe you should just flash a custom rom that's just very simple (not feature heavy) and go from there?

[Q] recently unlocked S5 can't register to any networks

Hello, I've had my s5 for a while on a Vodafone contract with no problems. The phone was rooted and had a custom recovery. I recently got it unlocked from a local shop due to moving contracts and now since then the phone will not connect to a single network. I have tried 3 different sims from different networks and all the same result. I flashed to stock again and no help. My device status reads:
Network: unknown
Mobile Network type: unknown
Service state: out of service
Mobile network state: disconnected
Phone number and IMEI are correct.
Dialling *#06* shows my correct IMEI. I can't get into any service menus due to no root now, and my EFS folder appears empty
Any help will be useful, thank you
Was root broken by the unlock? A SIM unlock shouldn't break root. First try wiping your system cache from recovery mode. If the problem persists, then your best bet would be to restore your backup which will certainly resolve your issue and let you proceed from a stable position. If you don't have a backup, what the hell? Why wouldn't you be making backups?
As (a much less desirable) alternative, make a backup at this point or at least save any important files or photos. Then temporarily install a 100% stock ROM followed by a factory data reset. This is to rule out software issues other than EFS. If your phone now works, then it was a matter of a broken root or conflicting settings.
If you still have problems, then you need to provide a lot more information if you want good advice. We can't see your handset so if you don't give us a lot of details all anyone can do is flail around in the dark and make guesses. Try your SIM card in another unlocked phone to confirm that it still works. Confirm that you wiped your system cache and tried a factory data reset. And tell us step by step what you've tried so far.

Thanks for the reply, I will describe as best I can what is happening:
Firstly as the phone rebooted from the unlock I could not register to any networks. Root was still there and TWRP also . I restarted the device, and nothing happened. So next I tried a different aim and still I have no network. Both aims work in another phone. I did what you mentioned next and restored a backup and still no fix.
I tried factory resetting and wiping the cache and again, no fix. Then I flashed the stock firmware through ODIN which had no effect either.
If I use the sim in another handset then return to my s5 with it on first boot up it registers to EE and pulls a signal with no Internet, then quickly unregisters to emergency calls only.
Thank you for your help, I will give any info about the device that you need.

activate Sprint while on custom ROM?

So I have been using MetroPCS on my Moto G5 Plus since I got it. Well today I went and activated my device with the Sprint network... It wasn't working when I left the store, and I told the rep how it was modified (using RessurectionRemix 5.8.4 Final), that I would work on setting it up.
Well, so far no success in activating it... Have tried changing network mode to CDMA/LTE and messing around with dialer codes, still can't get anything besides "emergency calls only."
Anyone have experienced getting this phone activated with Sprint?
Note: they did tell me they didn't have the exact, or "recommended," SIM card for my device, and that it was a secondary option they used in the system(?).

I am using that SIM, got it working when I reflashed stock. Did not work again when I restored RR, at least fully, as I was able to get data to work minus SMS/calls.
I'm on Sprint. No issues with any Roms.
You need to be on a stock build for the initial setup, because the custom roms remove all of the PRL stuff. Once it is setup once, flash whatever you want.

It doesn't stick after I flash a custom ROM
That's really odd. I don't have that problem...
Make sure you have APNs on the custom rom. I saw a problem a while back that the custom rom didn't keep the APN for some reason, and I had to put it in manually. Different device, but same problem.

Can you tell me what your APN info is? I have data and calling working now, but no LTE option (see screenshot)
I have mine set to global.
I had this same issue with my s6, and I ended up having to factory reset the phone, and redoing the PRL update, and the option finally came back.
Just to follow up, I was able to get full LTE and calls to work by flashing stock ROM, updating PRL, and by then it was provisioned on the Sprint network.
As it stands now, if I reinsert my MetroPCS sim card, it is provisioned for MetroPCS no problem, but I do have to reflash stock again each time I want to provision for Sprint.
So thats how I am going to run things for now, by making backups and getting it provisioned using stock before restoring.
this worked for me

theres an ap on the play store called apn backup and restore. install it on stock rom . b4 using it u need to go in system/apps and move the apk to system/priv/apps once moved changed permissions to r-w-r-r. after that a quick reboot and open app change setting to disable ics check and do a backup . once finished do the same thing on new rom and mine works flawlessly. im on boost which is also on sprint network. good luck hope this helps
