Noob questions about king of nougat 4.2 - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hello all,
Sorry if my question has already been answered, didn't find it.
I'm iOS fluent, just coming to Android World with a G935FD, so quite a noob here (already played with a S5 and flashing)
I wanted to install King of Nougat on my phone, but I have some questions:
- it says that "knox removed", does it means "knox tripped" or "knox not tripped but won't be usable unless go back to a Samsung official rom"?
- I'm french, is XEF CSC included? If not, can I flash it by Odin (or TWRP) after? And were to find CSC for Nougat Beta?
- Does VoLTE/Wifi Calling/visual "answering machine" (don't know how it's called in english, messagerie vocale visuelle en français) work?
Very big thanks and again, sorry if it has been already answered

1) KNOX removed means the dev has removed the KNOX apps and processes built-in to the Stock Samsung ROM. Flashing this will trip KNOX and void your warranty, you will be able to flash back to stock if you want, but KNOX will stay tripped and your warranty will still be void.
2) Don't know if it's included, ROM thread doesn't mention. You can ask in the Nougat Beta thread in the Q&A section. You can flash CSCs using Odin.
3) No idea about the visual answering machine, but if your carrier supports VoLTE and you flash the correct CSC, it should work, but don't take my word for it.
Also, welcome to the Android world.

Hello and thanks for your answer!
Maybe you can help me choose another rom?
What I want is:
- keeping touchwiz
- going on nougat
- having a better optimized kernel
- keeping Knox
Is that exists?
Thanks!

Currently there is no custom rom that allows you to keep Knox intact.
Flashing any other kernal other stock automatically trips knox.
Depending on your location offical nougat may not come out for stock roms until the 2nd quarter of 2017.

-All ROMs have TouchWiz, except the unofficial CM builds obviously.
-Majority of Custom ROMs for S7E are based on Nougat Beta.
-Dunno about that.
-Not possible. Any Custom ROM, no matter how close to stock it is, will trip KNOX and void warranty.
I'd say wait for Official Nougat to drop and stick with that. I'm also impatient but I'm hanging around with Marshmallow, don't wanna trip KNOX just yet.

Ok, I will give a try to King of nougat.
Shall I follow this guide first => recovery-official-twrp-hero2lte-3-0-0-0-t3334084
Or shall I only follow King Of Nougat guide?
Remember, my phone is like out of the box, with a french official samsung rom
Big Thanks

Hi,
The King of Nougat guide tells you to flash the TWRP using Odin, which I assume will be better explained on the TWRP thread. So if you're unsure about what to do, then follow the TWRP guide on flashing itself and then continue from there on the King of Nougat guide.
All the best,
~Lord

Ok thanks !

[Q] Clean Install of Latest Official Rom (with Knox)

Hello
I just bought a used s4 i9500 and I am looking to make a clean install of latest Official ROM on it, but it is already on 4.3 with Knox so I am not sure what effect flashing via Odin would have on it. Will it cause any harm (like voiding warranty) or it will be fine.
I want to do a clean install as I feel my S4 is a bit slow in comparison to my Mega 5.8 (not kidding, really) which should not be. I did factory reset when I bought it, is it same like doing a full factory wipe from recovery and doing a new ROM installation or no?
Please guide.
P.S. - I searched but didn't get the exact answer I was looking for (relating to knox) hence I created this topic.

Thanks mate
I was sure I was posting the the Q&A/Help section.. Anyways i have reported this and hopefully it will be moved to the correct section soon.
And thanks for the link to the topic mate, not sure how I missed it (may be because I wasn't searching for Knox per se rather than for clean install).
So as far as I can understand I can't flash the Original firmware too as it would void the warranty.. Thanks Samsung :x
Is flashing a clean rom via Odin and Factory Reset one and the same or there's any difference?
Thanks

[Q] Some Questions...

Let me start out by saying that I do try and search for my answer. I don't like to start anything before I am 100% confident. I have rooted for a while, but always followed detailed tutorials. I have model number SM-N900T, android version 4.3, Build number ends in MI7.
I keep seeing something about a reactivation lock that is supposed to be under the security part of settings. I do not see one? Am I missing something?
I do not care about KNOX tripping and warranty issues and am going to install TWRP so I can install a ROM. Do I need to root first, or just install the recovery, as the ROM I am looking at says it is pre-rooted?
If the ROM is 4.4.2 do I need to do some update before installing the ROM or will installing the ROM automatically upgrade my android version?
Most of the ROMS I see say 9005? Will these work on my phone?
Thanks for any replies everyone, I'm just paranoid about messing something up.

You are in the wrong forum!
You probably want to look at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-tmobile
(but MI7 might probably be a good thing since with a little care you can keep your knox warranty, however please read in that forum for specifics since there might be certain important differences).

[Q] Installing 4.4.4 and keeping root and Knox 0x0

Hi everyone.
I received my Galaxy s4 yesterday the c9515L variant and it came with the 4.4.2 version of android. Using TowelRoot I rooted it and now is working fine , It constantly wants me to upgrade to the newest version (I guess 4.4.4) and I wonder if i'd loose the root and if the Knox would be activated once I try to do the root again.
Also I installed Xposed and some modules, did that trip the knox?
Also, Is there any ROM available that won't trip the knox to 0x01 and having more features thatn stock? I guess to install the Rom I'd need Recovery and thus tripping knox...
Sorry for asking so many questions but as you can see I'm new to the SGS4 comunity.
Thanks.
1. Do you mean GT-i9515L? coz C9515L doesn't exist...
2. The update isn't android 4.4.4 for sure.

First of all, my mistake, what I meant was I9515L.
And, If I currently have the 4.4.2 and it wants to make a system update in "your" opinion what would that be? 4.4.2.1?? No? I though so..... thats why I said 4.4.4.
Any information regarding my questions would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Tale a look for example in Sammobile.com your updates and you will know something more of your device. It is likely that new models of Samsung using TW will update directly to android 5.0 Lollipop in early 2015 (but your device no maybe). Press "THANKS" button if the info helped you and Merry Xmas

Hi Mike, search the forums before asking any questions. Search google. Don't expect everyone to do your job for you. Post your threads in the right section. This question has been asked and answered a million times and you'd know this if you took 5 minutes to search a little bit.

What model do you have? Find out in phone settings in system / phone info. Sm-g900a has locked bootloader. I think verizon's phone also has a locked bootloader.
The link I gave you shows how to upgrade to lollipop, root it and keep knox 0x0.
Isn't that what you're looking for?

my bad, you did. 900f has an unlocked bootloader. when you upgrade to stock lollipop through OTA or Kies (or odin) it already includes bootloader and modem. When you do it the way described in that reddit link you flash the lollipop firmware, modem and bootloader separately. Apparently that method of updating needs it to be done so.
Honestly I have Knox 0x1 so I never cared for those methods, btw if you live in Germany then there's no need to care about Knox. In EU we're allowed to flash whatever we want and the guarantee stays intact even if you have Knox 0x1
ps. yes =p

Do you mean ota stock firmware notification? If yes then you will have it if Knox is still 0x0 if Knox however is 0x1 you will no longer be able to update via ota.
If you want to upgrade from KitKat to lollipop you must wipe data from recovery to avoid any issues. It is also not recommended by me to use titanium backup to restore apps because some might not be compatible with lollipop yet or some of the app data made for KitKat may have a conflict with lollipop system, however lots of apps have compatibility with lollipop and there is a chance you will have no issues at all when using titanium backup. Even if I said I don't recommend restoring data after such a major upgrade I do recommend having a backup whether it's with titanium backup or nandroid etc because you're able to restore apps one by one and make sure that what you restore won't be problematic.
Edit - if you update with flashfire app, there is an option to keep root when flashing from rooted KitKat to lollipop and users have reported that that feature does work for them (I personally haven't tried it).

Downgrade 6.0.1 to 4.4.2 or 5.1.1 ?

Hi Guys,
New to this device, but not new to Android... Read all over the web, various sites (esp this one) about this device and seeing mixed views/comments. Some saying its possible, others saying it will brick or flag the Knox.
Is it possible to downgrade this phone (G900F) currently on the latest 6.0.1 stock rom. But was wondering if I could try either official stock of 4.4.2 or 5.1.1 of this device.
Or due to this bootloader, is it likely to brick or even trip Knox?
Thanks, Lister

Official stock ROMs shouldn't trip Knox because they are, ummm, official.
I think the G900F bootloader is unlocked.

Why downgrade in the first place..... ? 6.0.1 is way better than previous FWs...
Hi @Dirty Flasher,
Yeah, that's what I thought... It's all stock, so all should be good... But I've read reports saying it will trip Knox as since a certain version of Marshmallow, the bootloader has been locked to only go with future firmwares and not allow downgrades. I assume to prevent people restoring to the older firmware (with bootloader) which was unlocked, that allowed rooting without tripping. But some say it will trip, others say it will not... I'm confused, and wondered if anyone has tried this, and what the outcome was... Don't want to trip Knox unnecessarily... if someone has already tried and tested it.

Hi @Zlate2255,
I got this device when it was already one 6.0.1, so I missed seeing it go through the various stages. I would like to see how it used to look like and work. As there are some features that have been removed since, such Face Unlock and Iris tracking when viewing pages. Whilst the latter is still there burried away, it barely works, so should be removed completely. But would just be nice to see what it did look like.

With my G900W8, I could downgrade to 4.4.2 with very-first firmware for G900W8 (NCG). Just try the earliest version of 4.4.2 and then upgrade back to 5.1.1
You can downgrade the g900f to every firmware (if unlocked) you want. On some s5 devices who have a locked bootloader like the at&t version there have been reported some problems.
Therefore, you shouldn't run into any problems while downgrading.
If you want some pro and cons to the firmwares:
Kitkat:
+ dark design (the touchwiz apps like contacts)
+ more battery friendly than marshmallow
- less security due to no security updates
- you might run into some minimal bugs, for example on wikipedia you sometimes have to reload the page to watch pictures (at least on mine)
- no app permissions can be removed (only with root and app ops)
Lollipop:
Honestly, I havent used this one that much, but here you have a white design with the different statusbar and pull down menu, better security (but not as good as on marshmallow) and the material design, but slightly worse battery time.
Marshmallow:
+ OTA Updates still available, best option for security
+/- White design, material design
+ new icons (but tbh not a real deal)
- less battery friendly (atleast for me even tho doze is enabled on marshmallow)
So yeah, choose what you want
And be sure that you have an unbranded device (check your csc) before downgrading/updating.
Hi @tm60405,
Wow, what a fantastic post... Thank you, exactly what I was looking for, and thanks for your reviews of each rom too.
- appreciate that, cheers
Quick question, how do I know if my Bootloader is unlocked??
Its a G900F (UK) was originally on the Three network, however I've flashed it to pure stock BTU, and to the EE network and back to stock BTU (all Marshmallow roms).
So where am I looking, or how do I know if the Bootloader is unlocked? Also, what am I looking for in the CSC info...??
Many thanks, Lister
Install the app called phone info from the play store.
Then, you swipe to the csc code and you can see your info and remember the csc you are on.
If it is BTU, you can install another firmware based on BTU without problems. But even if you don't have BTU, you can try installing BTU because it doesn't contain much bloatware. In the worst case, you just install the firmware with the csc you had before.
Then, follow the instructions on sammobile.com and there will be no problems during the installing process.
After downgrading, you might get a bootloop. Then, you have to factory reset your device, so get the data from the internal storage elsewhere BEFORE the installation.
And if the download takes too long, try another browser like opera, for me it takes around 1 hour only instead of 4-5 hours on chrome.
If you might have another problem while installing the firmware, say so.
