Of course, as old veteran, I had to play with my shift. And playing for me means, get deep into that thing.
So I unhid the recovery partition and backed it up. I created a recovery DVD and tested it.
After, I enabled the full capacity of the HDD and ran the recovery. Everything went fine and Vista was back up.
I then formatted the beast again and installed ubuntu...again, no problem.
But then, to my shock, I couldnt run the recovery DVD anymore. Maybe carelessly, I dropped something on its surface and now it gives me a read error and breaks off the recovery. I used ImageX.exe to verify the Xvista.wim, but it confirmed that the wim was not
valid.
Too bad, but now I dont have a recovery possiblity.
I hope someone can help me. I am able to provide my 100mbit ftp for up and downloads.
Recovery
I am also looking for an English recovery image.
I found a nice tool which can mount *.WIM files as a standard drive or folder. With this tool its easy to modify the XVISTA.WIM and the BOOT.WIM.
All I need now is a working recovery partition.
I want to slipstream a Vlite version of Vista and see if i can get it all working.
HTC Service is a nightmare
I install the vista manager, trying to speed up the boot time, but it crash the vista.. , when i try to use F3 to recover, it show blue screen in the middle.
since no recover disc provide, so i try to install xp instead. But i found some function key not work on Shift. so i decide send back to HTC for fixing it, it just a a days only new computer. but HTC want to charge me HK$7XXX ( US$1000 ) . They said i void the warranty term because of installing XP. What i think is the hidden partition ( recovery ) has problem....
I am very disappoint with them, and i will tell everyone about their bad treatment to customer.
By the way, can someone help me to get the ORIGINAL image of the hdd. ??
i already uploaded my (english) recovery image to someone's ftp server.
it took me several days because my upload is less than 40kbyte/s.
so I don't feel re-uploading elsewhere, but:
the image is still on the ftp.
I'll ask if he can give access to you guys.

That would be great...I can move it to my server and make it public to everyone here...
I already got the Japanese recovery dump there (Thanks very much to TokyoRob...cheers mate)
i can share my ftp
yes.. i can share my share open to public to if needed...
If an FTP would be available I would be glad to share my italian recovery image.

Problem solve , and HTC CARE ( HK ) really bad
Finally I solve the problem, maybe it can help some other user.
1. Format your HDD with Low level ( don't use quick format ) .
2. reboot and press Shift F3....
3. All the blue screen and error won't appear again.
I am happy with it, but i spend more than 2 days to solve the problem.
But I am very disappoint with Hong Kong HTC, they want to charge me for us$1000 to fix the problem, and claim that i damage the hardware, and need to replace the motherboard... I just brought if for few day and under warranty.
They are really cheating customer. I hope their management guy to contact me by [email protected] , and APOLOGIZE for their BIG mistake.
I will post to all FORUM , newsgroup and let the user know how they treat the customer.
First Recovery Image up
The first image file is up and can be grabbed from here.
https://phatpipez.homeftp.org/HTCShift/
Thanks to TokyoRob, who kindly sent me the image file.
Its a 3GB bin file, dumped by using Pof's guide, which can be
found here
http://pof.eslack.org/blog/2008/04/...re-the-vista-recovery-partition-on-htc-shift/
***I believe the language is Japanese,*** ITS IN ENGLISH!!!!! but I already created a patch to change a fresh installation to any desired language.
More about this later.
I would appreciate it, if someone could send me another recovery image
and also the /Program Files/HTC folder.
unfortunately the guy who has the ftp hasn't replied to me yet and I don't want to give out the login info without permission.
in the worst case, if you can guarantee the image will indeed be public for a long while, then I can take the pain to upload it again to whatever server you give me a login to.
still no reply from this guy I mentioned; but someone else also has the english recovery partition (in 7z, yuck!) on a server, this is not public, but I asked him to PM you all. please do not give out the login info he gives to you.

You can even change the language.
If people need instructions, I will post them later.
Corrupt file
When decompressing Shift_Recovery_Partition_Content.7z with both 7Z or WinRar, the WIM file shows as being corrupted. Would you please repack / verify? Thanks!

Since the topic of this thread is "Recovery Image needed", we could close this thread now.
It is no longer valid.
I played around and installed some customs roms when this happened.
installed Legend_Lespresso_v1.0_A2SD. wasn´t happy about so I reinstalled azure-1.0.1
and then this happened.
SD is not recognized.
Can´t Call,
Can´t connect via USB.
No connection via Win 7.
I get the debug icon sometimes when connecting to XP.
But when trying let´s say recovery-windows.bat it can´t connect.
Is there something I can do in the built in terminal in the ROM?
Anyone?
Don´t know what to do =(
Have you tried a complete Wipe from the recovery menu?
What about formatting the SD card?
yes I wiped it several times.
And have tried to format the card aswell.
But I formated this in windows -> Fat32
Maybe I should try something else?

dont know about the other problems but about the calls i had same problems:
i installed different roms for a whole day and couldnt get signal then i discovered that the antenna of the legend is placed on the cover of the battery so if its not on,it wont work
Ah ok,
But the thing is that I don´t even have to put in my SIM-lock nr.
That´s why I think that SIM card isn´t recognized either.
I really don´t know what to do
I just bought my Legend one month back, I contacted the official HTC suppliers here, thats a copy of the email!
so they say its in november! with full arabic support, but I believe it will be a little earlier for the international version which (most likely) wont contain arabic within it!
Heres the email:

What´s this got to do with my problem?
I have this same problem like BAWS
On beginging everythink goes fine, I successfull root my Legend and install custom ROM. Problems begin when i change rom for Dark Azure CyanogenMod 6.0.0.
First install of ROM gets only errors of every app that be launch. I wipe phone and install it again.
ROM install successfull but there be no Market on it, I can't sync with Gmail, and the worse on SD card be info there is unavalible. So i format card, change it to gold card and there still this same info. So i change SD card for another, but this not help.
So I try back to my old rom, when i plug phone to PC and go to recovery mode, there be info that be install new devices. That devices be Unknown Devices and be unsuccessfully install.
I try install HTC Legend on recovery mode on 2 PC and 3 Nootebooks and everyone see only Unknown Devices (i have install HTC Sync 3.0.5422)
I try do install RUU_Legend_HTC_WWE_1.31.405.5_R_Radio_47.26.35.04_7.05.35.26L_release_126592_signed.exe but my HTC Legend is not visible by the installer.
When i select option to USB Debugging is this same Win7(x64) is looking for drivers and finaly install it as Unknown Devices
Someone know how repair that ??

Bonethugs thx for advice I try it and it works my HTC Legend is back to normal life
For Baws that is right that you need to see the sdcard, but did you see this in the usb-unbrick post
Also, SD card functionality has to work. For this, do 'fastboot oem enableqxdm 0' in fastboot mode.

Bootloader is [POWER] + [BACK ARROW]
So I wanted to install Blackball's Genesis ROM on my AL00 P10+. Unlocked bootloader just fine, installed TWRP, which appeared to work OK as well. When I boot into TWRP though (and I tried various versions already); I can't do much. Internal Storage is not recognized, shown as 0MB (SD card storage is recognized though). I can't mount anything other than my SD card, Wiping anything just gives error messages about being unable to mount xyz. Backup screen shows me no partitions to back up.
Things I have already tried from searching other threads:
- fastboot format userdata (command not allowed)
- Set a PIN in settings (never being asked for it in TWRP as I supposedly should be)
- advanced Wipe, change file system (already all on ext4, no effect)
- Switch off any encryption (switched off TrustSpace with no effect, nothing else found)
Any hint on where else to look or how to facilitate debugging my issue would be much appreciated!
Did you tried to install the rom in twrp?
Did you format data in twrp so you can see the internal storage.
Before doing anything,do a backup in twrp at least for oeminfo.
No, I never get to the point of installing anything and I have nothing to select for backup. How would I go about formatting?

Thanks a lot! I have Blackball looking at the problem in the ROM thread now. If he can't resolve it, I'll do that. Thank you!
Just to wrap this up for now: I did rebrand to L29 via funkyhuawei, found a TWRP that could read my filesystems (from https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/development/testers-twrp-t3585256 ). Now I get Error 7 installing any ROM. No idea why. I went back to original AL00.
Any attempts to just root the device have failed as well.
From some other threads, there is some indication that my EMMC storage causes problems with some TWRPs. Most devices purchased in Europe have UFS and are therefore not affected.
Right now, I am keeping my eyes out for a TWRP that may work with my device.

Kernel Version:
Linux 3.10.65-Tue Nov 13
Os Version:
BSP 2.4.4.3.12-IVT-181113
Mcu Version:

I have tried to root my device by various methods without success, until using kingroot v4.9.6.151 and in one of the multiple reboots I have alone achieved a nice bootlop since it does not advance beyond the bootanimation of Android.
After many searches on Google and being very lucky, in one of my tests I managed to enter Stock Recovery through an external keyboard connected by USB.
but even doing a wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition continuos with the same problem.
so the only way out would be to reinstall the firmware through Recovery but I do not have it and I cannot contact the seller.
Could someone help me or give some information about a firmware compatible with my device?
To provide more information, I leave you some images that I took before trying to root.
greetings and thank you all very much.

thanks for answering I will try to test the same firmware. I'm glad that aya managed to solve your problem.now i am trying to implement bootable image via micro SD card using phonix card software.
I have managed to start an image of android 6.0.1 successfully although currently nothing else works no bluethoot, no music,no radio, no wifi ...
I also do not know if it is possible to access the flash memory from the bootable image through Phoenix card to be able to flash from the terminal the Boot.img of a 7.1.1 rom since I think that the integrity of my flash memory is still intact it is only damaged boot.img partition when trying to root. so maybe hopefully if I could restore it it would reboot.
I found a firmware compilation of allwinner T3 but I can't find one compatible with my device in .img format to be able to boot with softare phoenix card link here: disk.yandex.ru/d/07ru92rb3HEh73

Thank you so much for your help.
I have installed it and everything seems to work except the wifi and the bluetooth.
I have tried reviewing a system.log to find the problem using the liveboot.apk program and it highlights a problem.
in the beginning of android when starting the load of the wifi controller located in /vendor/modules/8723bs.ko it tries to read the file / proc / nec / wireless
and throws "file read error" so I think some memory paths nand
they are not reinstalled with the firmware and my device has corrupted memory parts.
In the Russian forum of 4pda.ru there is a lot of information, although I cannot translate it correctly, I am trying to find some firmware that will restore the partitions completely. See if I can get everything to work correctly.
at 4pda.ru they talk about a hardware way using the phoenix suite program and a complete firmware file in .img format

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1" SM-P580 and started working to root it so I could install more apps using a micro SD card. It was a long time ago with Android 7 or so and a while back I thought I would upgrade so I tried upgrading it to Android 11 and Lineage 18.1 and bare bones Google apps. This has been only partially successfully as the system runs but I cannot install any apps at all and have been unable to make any further progress. So I am looking to go back to the drawing board here. What recommendations do you have with regard to what to use that will allow me to install more apps? Thank you very much!

So I am looking to go back to the drawing board here. What recommendations do you have with regard to what to use that will allow me to install more apps? Thank you very much!

I assume you got the basic stuff out of the way - unlocked bootloader, installed TWRP, etc.
Did you install a Gapps package?
If you prefer something more vanilla, without the LineageOS customizations, you can try an Android GSI, which is like turning your device into a Pixel tablet. Check out my guide here.

There are differences between Android 7,8,9 and now, especially eg.the use of sd-cards and permissions for users in general. Maybe you have to check such things as "Allow Installing apps from unknown ressources" in Settings, or you ckeck magisk modules that could help.

Thanks for the input. I have it upgraded to Android 11. Yhe unknown resources shouldn't matter AFAIK, in this case, as I am only trying to install via Play Store. I was trying to work with Magisk - I have it installed. I was going to try the ExSD module but I haven't been able to add it.

Thank you. I will look into that. I will look into what the differences are between that and LineageOS. Question: will the pen/stylus work under this configuration? Thank you again.

In theory, yes - because GSIs are meant to be used with the stock kernel, and the system image doesn't have to have any specific hardware support.
LineageOS is built from AOSP, with added tweaks and customizations. I used it for a while, but grew tired of the Magisk issues I was having (PHH builds have built in SuperSU) so I just went straight vanilla with GMS.
So I looked at your guide and decided to give it a shot. With Multidisabler, when I tried pushing that to the tablet with sideload, it failed. I have also been unable to move system.img to the tablet. I'm at a loss. I know I am missing something here but just can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I just want to get this tablet up and running with Android and being able to use the 400GB SD card.
Thanks.

Does MTP work for you in TWRP? ADB sideload is only for installing zips from your computer; the correct command to send files to device storage is adb push. Still, if you're able to get storage access over USB in TWRP just move the files that way because it's simpler.
I'm honestly not sure if the multidisabler is necessary when using custom firmware or GSIs. I think most likely not.

Sorry - I just saw this response from you. So MTP is enabled but my laptop was unable to see the tablet. I connected the SD card to my laptop and placed the system.img file on it and then dropped the SD card back into the tablet. I was able to see it in the File Manager. As you said to, I wiped /system and flashed the system.img file. It showed "[IMAGE FLASH COMPLETED]". But when I went to reboot from the main TWRP menu, it said there was no OS installed and asked if I was sure if I wanted to reboot. So I took a gamble and selected Reboot and System again. And I guess I lost on the gamble. It now just loops on the "Samsung Galaxy Tab A with S Pen" splash screen. Well, game over... for tonight.

Don't worry about the No OS warning, I get the same thing on my Tab A after installing a GSI.
You formatted data, yes?
You did NOT wipe /boot or /product I hope?
Something I noticed with the LineageOS GSIs is that the securized ones bootlooped, and I had to flash one of the pre-rooted builds. Can you link the image you tried to flash?
As a test to ensure a GSI runs properly, download one of the Android Developer Preview GSIs and try installing that. Let me know how it goes.
I didn't wipe /boot or /product.
I did format data.
I used the system.img from the aosp_arm64-exp-T2B2.221216.006-9443277-e508d63f.zip file on this page, from the Android Developer Preview GSIs: https://developer.android.com/topic/generic-system-image/releases
I'm guessing I didn't select the right build ?
Thanks again!

I also just tried the system.img from gsi_gms_arm64-exp-T2B2.221216.006-9443277-12a8e193.zip file. I get the same results - the splash screen loop.

And so I tried the system.img files from the 2 zip files that are in the Android 13 (stable) folder:
aosp_arm64-exp-TP1A.220624.014-8819323-996da050.zip
gsi_gms_arm64-exp-TP1A.220624.014-8819323-8a77fef1.zip
Neither of these work. I still get the splash screen boot loop.
One thing I noticed is when I wipe system, it shows:
