[Issues] Report your Redmi 2 issues here - Xiaomi Redmi 2 Questions & Answers

I will start by a common problem, overheat-lag
This issue is basically that when the device get's hot, the thermal throttle starts, and it limits the processor speed, making the device lag
This issue only happens in custom roms, MiUi dosn't have this issue

[Q] RAM test app for Note 3 / Android?

Hi all,
Is there some kind of RAM test app (like memtest x86 for Windows/DOS) for the Note 3 / Android devices ?
Lately my Note 3 started to reboot out of the blue, many 'xxxx has stopped' errors.
I was still on 4.2 stock (root) so I decided to upgrade to an custom KK ROM.
The usual 5 mins to leave the phone alone was not enough, immediate freezes. It seemed that removing the battery and putting it back in fixes it for a few mins but then I get the same freeze.
Nothing responds and the area around the camera gets hot. So I tried the stock ROM and various other custom ROMS and recovery's. Nothing helped, exactly the same, freeze within minutes.
So I did a cpu stress test, that went fine CPU temperature was also normal, but still it felt hot around the camera. Bootloader was up to date.
So in the store they told me it could be the RAM. They also told me that they saw I tried an custom ROM and I lost my warranty. I reminded them of the non-conformity in Europe and they quickly changed their judgement.
They said 3 weeks at most before I get it back...
Now I've got an nice Nokia 206 Blue
But to get back at my question: Is there is any app to test the RAM? And has anyone else experienced these kind of problems?
stability test from play store may help you. also check check 3c toolbox, it does not have proper memory test, at least I didn't see one, but it has about 60, probably more, different utilities, like system and kernel logs, sd memory speed test, device recorder, cpu temp monitor etc.
if the area around camera is getting hot, maybe that's the problem? if the cores get stock at full speed, they would overheat, start thermal throttling and then errors would start showing up.
same problem
I have the same problem with my note 3 LTE, is there any solution?

Severe slowdown issue - fps in benchmarks half and everything becomes extremely laggy

Hi there. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue.
I used to think it was only caused when I changed my phone to a custom Kernel but its also happening on the stock rom and kernel too and even a reset and wipe didn't fix it.
Basically after a while of usage the phone just gets extremely slow and laggy and it seems to be related to GPU not CPU as when I run Quadrant my CPU scores are the same when this issue happenes but in graphic tests the fps has gone from 60fps to 30fps.
The only way to fix this is turning the screen off and then back on again. Once I do that it goes back to normal.
Its not a heat issue or DVFS issue as I turned DVFS off and and it still happenes and my temps are the same as usual. it just seems to happen randomly after iv been using it for a while.
Has anyone else experienced this and does this seem to be a fault?
Scrolling through the home screens becomes really laggy when it happenes like the speed has halved so its easy to spot.
I haven't noticed anything in stock.
Maybe trying a firmware 4epair through Kies. Not Odin.
And then try again in stock and if all is well try in custom

[Discovery]Prevent freezing issue due to unlocked bootloader

So, as the title says, there may be a way to prevent your device from freezing due to unlocked bootloader. Here are 2 things I've discovered:
1) Most of you may already know of this: If you switch off cores 3 and 4 of your CPU in the app Kernel Adiutor you can prevent the freezing issue. However, you lose half your CPU power, and if you leave it that way for long you can't switch those cores back on for some reason, and you'll have to reboot your device(else your battery will drain out if left as is, from my experience), so it's quite a cumbersome task.
2) If you play games that require little more than average ram and CPU power(even games like hill climb) your phone won't freeze while playing. I play this game called Vainglory, and after having played for over 10 hours, I can say for sure it didn't freeze even once.
From these two things I can draw up a vague conclusion that the phone freezes when the CPU isn't doing anything much. When we switch off 2 cores, the workload increases on the CPU, this making it busy(which also leads to quick drain). Same goes for gaming.
So how do we work on that? I'm not sure. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe someone can create a kernel compatible with RR and other cm13 roms which has what's needed. Or maybe try a different CPU governor? Well, just wanted to put it out there.
I tried all what you're trying to do and I understand that. The thing is that it will freeze no matter what.
Of course you can try but don't expect too much.
Goodluck!
I am facing this same issue suddenly
there is no connection between ifwi and cpu core

Who said there is?
Another thing I found:
When you use kernel adiutor to switch off cores 3 and 4, and use your phone normally, the instant when your phone would have frozen if it weren't for the app, is when your phone gets much slower suddenly. At this point, you'll no longer be able to switch those cores back on, and only a reboot will resolve that.
I've mentioned this so-called "method" of preventing Z5 freeze long ago. I can confirm that switching off cores 3 and 4 somehow halts the phone's urge to freeze. I could've lived with limiting my "power use" as I'm not really a fan of entrusting your phone with large tasks. However, what turned me off was that disabling either one of cores 3 and 4 also disables the camera somehow (Ring a bell, Z5 users who lose their cameras whenever their bootloaders are unlocked?)
No one really replied with certainty back then and up to now, that thread is still collecting cobwebs.
Question: is battery drain a characteristic of disabling cores? I disabled only core 4. Cores 1, 2, and 3 are up and my ROM (Lineage 14.1) runs perfectly without freezing.

Workaround for mmc_read_failed and mmc_write_failed errors

As many others here I started to have mmc_read and mmc_write errors with my N910F plus freezes and restarts or no boot. For me is another case of programmed obsolescence from our beloved Samy as I previously had with the Note 2 chip bug. I supposed that the problem comes from overheating (from a short-circuit or a failing transistor) and I got confirmed. The phone cpu and gpu go up to 90-100deg Celsius. In case you still want to keep your phone and save money until the Note 8 is out here is a possible workaround:
- In case you get mmc errors when flashing with odin you have to take out the battery an keep them both somwhere cool for 15 minutes. Then flash immediatly after starting in download mode, before is heating again.
-If you managed to boot and root you can install Kernel Adiutor or something similar and keep the processors at a max frequency around 1000MHz .
For me it worked and after 2 weeks of testing all kinds roms with repartitioningn, nand erase etc. I have a working if little less performant phone for a week now.
Edit: Device Control is another app that seem more stable and it has a thermal dedicated control over CPUs. Even with intensive use the phone doesn't freeze now. It still needs to be cool to boot.*I also flashed RamKernel and I don't know it KernelAdiutor works with factory kernel.
Edit2: Wakelock app with level 4 setting > 3 days and going with no lag and no restart. So maybe all above is wrong...

intermittent lags issue with light usage

Hi folks,
I've been using my redmi 2 1GB for 2 years now.
I have tried countless roms from MIUI kk, LP to CM / AOSP based (LP, MM, N), all the way to 64 Bit LP MIUI8.
I gave up on MIUI ROMs as all the ones I've tried resulted in bluetooth disconnections in my car so I went the custom ROM way.
In most cases, when the phone is freshly setup, it seems really nice and smooth.
However, after just a couple days, I start to see some intermittent serious lag / freeze issues.
- I am not gaming. I simply do emails, text messages, and light browsing.
- the issue happens very often when coming out of idle (turn screen on to send a text message for example)
- I have regular cases of calls coming in and won't be able to unlock home screen untill it's too late
- I either use Google Now launcher or Pixel launcher.
I usually go with the kernel provided with the ROM.
I did try once some alternate settings (https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-2/how-to/guide-advanced-interective-governer-t3378713)
=> to no avail...
I'm always back to the same issue.
I don't expect a 1GB RAM phone to be blazing fast. I am only looking for consistency in speed and good balance with battery life.
I am currently running Mokee 60.1 rom as I found that N based ROMs where making things worse (higher difference between max speed and lags made it feel worse).
I'm at the point where I'm considering changing phone: my wife has a Redmi 3s 2GB and I never experience this when I try it.
Anyone has faced (and solved) similar issues ?
Any idea of things I should test ?
Thanks for your help.
I am not advertising any ROM...but use minimal ROM like lineage or caf-aosp though I don't know the result as I have 2gb RAM version.
U can also use some apps for tweaks like fstrim and zipalign and zram like tweaks with .You can find these tweaks or script with some apps or kernel.Though most of Roms are optimized
Try flashing the phone by fastboot method from scratch? Just a suggestion....
