Severe slowdown issue - fps in benchmarks half and everything becomes extremely laggy - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue.
I used to think it was only caused when I changed my phone to a custom Kernel but its also happening on the stock rom and kernel too and even a reset and wipe didn't fix it.
Basically after a while of usage the phone just gets extremely slow and laggy and it seems to be related to GPU not CPU as when I run Quadrant my CPU scores are the same when this issue happenes but in graphic tests the fps has gone from 60fps to 30fps.
The only way to fix this is turning the screen off and then back on again. Once I do that it goes back to normal.
Its not a heat issue or DVFS issue as I turned DVFS off and and it still happenes and my temps are the same as usual. it just seems to happen randomly after iv been using it for a while.
Has anyone else experienced this and does this seem to be a fault?
Scrolling through the home screens becomes really laggy when it happenes like the speed has halved so its easy to spot.

I haven't noticed anything in stock.
Maybe trying a firmware 4epair through Kies. Not Odin.
And then try again in stock and if all is well try in custom

Problem with lag after a while

So I've recently bought a Cingular Wizard, and flashed TNT wm6 rom onto it. I installed PocketGnuBoy, and some other games, but I keep running into a problem. After I play for a while, or after my phone has been on for some time, games seem to start to 'skip'. It's really weird, and its still playable, but its extremely annoying. I would assume that someone happens after a while when you have your phone on, but I have no clue what it could be. My guess that it has something to do with activesync, but I can't seem to fix this lagging problem.
By the way, if it helps, I'm using battery status to overclock my processor to 260 mhz.
if i could first comment about your overclocking program...
XCPUScalar has a much better algorithm for overclocking. you should switch.
i tried both programs and XCPUScalar is much more stable. maybe if you tried overclocking using that you wouldn't get the lag.. maybe your processor gets all crazy from the heat of overclocking after some playtime that it can't handle the pressure... to be honest.. you should never overclock to the maximum.. it burns the MOSFETS on the processor.
other than that.. notice that some games eat RAM as they go.. check the ram demand in the beginning and check the change during gameplay..
that's something you can't really overcome.
Well if I'm playing my emulator and it starts to lag, and I exit, it seems like doing everything else or playing any other game will also get the lag. Even if I dump my memory.
ok.. so if it's a function of the time... maybe it IS about the overclocking.
try changing the program and if that doesn't work maybe you should ease up on the pressure.. after all it's a 195Mhz processor and you have a few other programs running.
I don't know. I literally have no other things running while I'm playing, and I still get this problem. The only way to fix it is to soft reset, and then it will run perfectly for 10-20 minutes. I tested it with 195 mhz default, and it still does the same thing.
hmm.. i have no idea then, im sorry
Okay so one thing I've noticed is that every time it starts lagging, the little icon where the keyboard is on your screen pops up. It's not there normally when you first start the program (pocketgnuboy) so when it starts up there is no lag. I'm absolutely sure that this has something to do with it, because of the exact timing of the lag and the appearance of the icon.

Froyo UI Response/Laginess

I (and several friends that I asked) noticed a mark increase in UI response (laginess) when coming out of sleep, opening app drawers, initializing the keyboards, scrolling between launcher screens, etc. Having random lags is annoying, but having 2-3 second lag spikes when using the keyboard is downright frustrating.
I know that lab benchmarks are way up with the new release, but frankly I don't care about those if my day-to-day functions suffer.
I first began to notice this when I made the stock upgrade to Froyo. 2 days ago, I flashed the EViO 1.5 ROM on my phone, and it seems to be 4x as bad. Paring down the window launcher helps marginally. ADW -> Sense -> Launcher Pro in order of most to least lag. I am currently using Launcher Pro just because it's responding a little better than the others.
In a somewhat related post, one of the developers offers that a lot of lag is due to aggressive garbage collection:
(unfortunately, I am not yet verified so I can't post the link)
I also wonder if the overhead from the JIT compiler or lack of proper memory caching isn't the culprit ... or perhaps this is to what the aggressive garbage collecting is referring.
Who else has noticed this? Can anyone offer up an explanation?
I would be willing to reflash to a new ROM if someone can suggest a custom ROM that they recommend as having faster normal UI response time.
Are you using Juice Defender or do you have off "always-on mobile network?" The lag when turning on the phone is the phone searching for 3G svcs, notice when you are on Wifi there is no lag

No juice defender.
I have my radio set to always on.
Most of my testing at home is done on AC power with WiFi turned on, lag definitely still exists.
There's a good 4 - 5 seconds of lag before I can use my window launcher after waking up my phone. I do have setCPU configured to scale the processor down to 245mhz while the screen is turned off. This may explain the lag after wakeup, but not the intermittent lag.
None of these issues using Myn's 2.2 rls3 Rom and ziggys 11/5 kernel. I DON'T use setcpu. It can cause instability issues. Like the lag time in wake up. Some phones don't like 245mhz when sleep. Try boosting to 384 screen off. Also, overclocking can be beneficial but clocking too high can cause poor responsiveness. It can also affect benchmarking scores negatively if clocked to high. Try ziggys 11/5 kernel, its doesn't support overclocking, but it honestly feels like it is overclocked using this Rom/kernel combo
Sent from my DAMN Evo!!
lag what lag ? my 6.1 is lag free

If your setcpu governer is set on something like conservative, it can defintely cause intermittant lag. get away from setcpu and use a havs kernel.
Currently mine is instant, no lag at all, but I had this problem about a week ago. I am running Fresh 3.4.0.1 with Netarchy's 4.2.1 cfs/havs kernel.
What caused my problem with lag was a lack of internal memory. I was down to about 64 MB of internal memory left and it would lag on wake or when exiting apps, and I noticed that it would often have to reload the UI whenever I exited an app. The fix was easy. I moved what apps I could to the SD card and used titanium Backup to remove a bunch of stuff that I do not use. Once available internal memory was over about 100 MB (134 MB is what it was when I was finished) the lag totally went away.
Problem Partially Solved!
SetCPU was indeed the main culprit. I was under the impression that overclocking too much would just cause instability. It seems that moving the ceiling from 1228.8mhz down to 1113.6mhz solved most of my new lag issues with the EViO ROM.
Indeed, upping the screen-off throttle-down from 245 to 386 also seems to have helped the wake-up lag time, though I'm still doing some more testing on this one.
Would I need to set all floor values up to 386 as well, or is that just for the screen off value? What scaling setting do you guys in setCPU? Conservative? Performance? On-Demand? Does anyone happen to know exactly what the differences are in the algorithms that they use?
So can anyone offer up an explanation as to why overclocking would result in lag? Is there some kind of hardware throttle-down that's happening? I had a catch for if the battery got too hot that would throttle back to normal speed, but I never seemed to reach it. Is there a known heat limit where the hardware automatically throttles down?
As for the seemingly normal, random Froyo lag spikes, I'll be monitoring that over the next few days.
Thanks again in advance for any information.

Help me to get rid of the lag

hello,
i'm getting crazy with this annoying micro stuttering and occasional lagging. it's happening everywhere - home screens, app drawer, settings, apps like xda and tapatalk. it's not major, but it's enough to be seen and to drive me nuts. i tried stock KK, Cloudy stock 2.5 and Cloudy G3. i also tried several kernels - stock, bruce Kernel and Dorimanx. i also tried tons of different settings for cpu governor and hotplugging; i tried the lag mod which have to remove the scrolling lag - it seams that nothing is helping. i tried with and without Greenify (to avoid a lot of resident apps), i also tried both Dalvik and Art - nothing. the slight lag is there - and it's just that - slight stutter, few frames dropped - enough to make you think that some setting will kill it finally. but no matter what i try, that slight lag and stutter is still there. can you give me some suggestions - i'm coming from Galaxy S3, which i used with Beanstalk rom - i experienced 0 lag and stutter and i cannot believe that i see that in a phone like the G2, given the powerful processor and the 2 gb of ram.
please help me not to get insane with that phone

I've only got 550mb of ram free and my phones flying. Not even a little bit of lag. But for the first week or so after re flashing the stock Rom I did get all that lag you were describing. Even after I debloated, flashed Bruce's and did every other mod you can think of. It ended up going away on it's own after a while. Maybe you just need to stick with one setup and let your phone settle.
You can use beanstalk on the g2 as well, if you were interested in going that route again.
I have the same issue. In games it lags and stutters just enough to put you off the game. I have noticed some videos do this as well like youtube. I am still testing this but I am reluctant to spend any time on it as it has a clear issue when other lower spec'd phones run the same games fine. Basic games as well. It is subtle, but the stutter is there. On some games it's can even be a full 1 or 2 second complete lag and game halt. I tried the CPU throttle option in hidden menus and this did nothing.
Can this be hardware problem? I phone LG and the support agent was extremely unhelpful. He said that it would be sent for repair and they will not play games, only flash it and run a test. I'm concerned this will be a classic case of "there was no fault found" and it will be a complete saga for ages. I already had this before with a different phone (different problem) and I'm fed up with phone problems.
Mine is from Vodafone UK store bought. I am tempted to try stock UK firmware to see if this fixes. Shouldn't have to though.... I also might end up trying a custom ROM to see if it goes away. I absolutely love the phone otherwise. I just want it to work.
PS: It runs benchmarks fine with high scores.

[Q] ULTRA LAG! Tried everything, please HELP!!!

Hello guys!))
I am running android CM12 android 5. Before installing this I had omnirom 4.4 and that was also lagging horribly so had uninstalled that and then applied the CM12 android 5. I had followed all the instructions to the exact point -flashed,cleared cache data etc all correctly.
First few days it ran satisfactorily but then again started to crawl down horribly.
I must mention that my tablet had a bad fall a year back and the screen is having multiple spiderwebbed cracks but working 100% correctly (thanks gorilla glass!) So is it possible the cpu suffered something because of it? I think that is unllikely though because of how perfectly it performs sometimes, no problems in flashing etc.
Now let me describe how exactly it is lagging.
The apps slow down to a crawl. Multiple seconds delay in input after that. Delay in switching apps too. I can try ramping up the speed to 1.4Ghz (by repetedly pressing the apply button in CPU speed app because of the input lag) and then it works smoothly then for sometime. I think once or twice i noticed that the cpu speed while working had slowed down to 300+Mhz something ..... so is that the reason for the lag? The cpu speed is normally 384Mhz - 1.0/1.2Ghz , i dont mess with it often. Oh, and it sometimes restarts by itself randomly too..like after like few seconds of hanging.
I cant browse properly, cant read books smoothly, cant even switch menus and apps properly...it's a total killjoy experience :'(
I have already formatted to factory three times before this but the problem returns after few days or weeks. Have also done f2fs formatting. I miss the days of butter smooth honeycomb& ICS experience....
Please help me to get out of this problem. It's not a simple rom problem i thinK? :'(

When playing, my screen shows multicolor lines and rectangles

I don't know when this issue started, but it's pretty annoying. It appears mostly when I play games (I've encountered this issue on Pokémon GO and Stormbound, but only on specific moments.
Could it be some ROM issue? the screen? or something else?

nobody?
It's graphic issue . U need to switch to better stable and smooth rom with a good kernel that can overclock gpu and stable at high frequencies in corresponding voltages .
i have that issue too it happens if ur phone overheats
So is it because of the overheat or a ROM issue? I honestly don't think my phone overheats that much.
