Spen only working with capacitive buttons - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So a few days ago I downloaded and flashed a kernel (accidentally) that wasn't meant for my device (Tapatalk error). After flashing my display was so off that I barely could use the phone, and literally was inches off on every touch. So I factory reset and then went back to stock with Odin. After this didn't work I read about hidden menu 2663 and after a general FW update my screen was usable again (yay!).
But now my issue is that the Spen stopped working. I changed the tip and no luck. Oddly enough, it works on the capacitive buttons, but not at all on the screen. Any ideas how I can get it back are much appreciated.
EDIT: Got it working. Required flashing a newer RON and running 2663 hidden code that had additional FW settings.

You might want to try recalibrating your device's internal hardware via the hidden options. Which should fix everything from the touchscreen accuracy problems to the capacitive buttons.

Prior to the problem that you have mentioned, did you open your unit to say replaced boards or display assembly? Because if you do,the problem might be with the connectors not fitted well. One of those connectors from the display assembly was for the LED and Digitizer(capacitive) and the other was for the S-Pen.(It has this metal film that recognizes it)

I did replace the screen and LCD. I double checked the ribbon connectors, but it can't hurt to check them again.

I have also this problem with screen..the bottom didn't work, but I solve problem with that code *#2663# I update those 3 things and my screen is back to normal.
I also have t-mobile sm-n910t ,and it was on stock rom.

Tip: I used to have a hard time placing together those ribbon connectors in place. What i did was to placed a tiny slice of eraser to lift up those in place connectors so the motherboard could fit with a little amount of pressure. I hope this would work for you.
Best of luck!

Phantasm Touch and finger slider

Hi all,
I'm new here, a friend refered me this page to ask for some troubles I'm having with my Nexus 4.
I bought it from ebay about 4 months ago. For all this time, it worked perfectly, no problems at all, running fine.
The thing is that this last week the telephone is doing strange things. While using it, at a few minutes of use, "phantasmal touches" occurs, getting hit the buttons from back, back to desktop and last applications.
Also, after some minutes, or just touching the screen for scroll, the slide malfunction, getting harder to slide, even sometimes this doesn't works, but touching stills operative (sometimes not).
The only way that temporarily works, is locking and unlocking the screen, but problem still appear again and again.
Tried also to restore it (like as it was new). But nothing.
Hope you can help me with this. Thanks.

The problem stills, for example, im in facebook or whatsapp, i slide up and down for reading, and from the nothing it's harder to slide/scroll... it's not that sensitive as before. I mean, with just a slide of the finger at early is scrolls fast, as it must be, but for some reason, after a few slides, with the same finger slide, it just scrolls a bit.

N910T Touchscreen registering touch in wrong place?

So my phone started randomly rebooting (on stock touchwiz) so I flashed the stock firmware over it again with Odin. Booted up, everything seems to work. Except that the touchscreen (more so towards the lower half of the screen but also some at the top) seems to think my finger is 1 inch lower than where I'm actually touching. So like in settings, if I want to select an item, I have to touch two items above it. I went into dev settings and turned on "show touches" and I can clearly see that the touch point is being registered elsewhere on the screen other than where my finger is.
I've tried a factory reset and installing the stock firmware again but it doesn't seem to work.
Also, this doesn't seem to be an Android software issue because it's also happening in TWRP. Touches are all out of place.
Help!
EDIT: FIXED IT BY GOING TO THE DIALER AND DIALING *#2663# AND UPDATED THE SCREEN FIRMWARE. WORKS PERFECTLY NOW.

That is goddamn fantastic! Thank you so much for that, you just saved me from pulling out even more hair. You are a king among men!
Worked for me on an Optus Note 4 (N910G) that OTA updated to Marshmallow a couple of weeks ago and had the touch screen problem since then. Tried this today, and finally relieved the touch screen is fine again. The phone is in perfect condition, was annoying me that perhaps it had faulty screen (co-incidental with FW upgrade) given how new the phone is (about 13months old).

[Q] Is my Note 3 dead?

My screen is shattered, but the phone turns on and it vibrates when I turn it off and plug in the charger. Battery lights are normal for charging. Goes from orange to green.
However, when I try to turn the phone on it vibrates once then the blue light starts to blink continuously for a long time. After about 10 minutes the blue light is gone but the back and menu buttons are lit up and stay lit. I can't tell if it has actually booted or not.
If I try to ADB into the phone while it's in this state I can see it listed but it shows as unauthorized.
Does anyone know if I can I revive my Note 3 by replacing the LCD and digitizer? Is there anyway I can test it to see if everything is working besides the screen? I don't want to waste the money unless I know that is the only problem. I would really like to fix it if possible.
There is absolutely no water damage, just a really bad fall.
Try a hard reset with the 3 buttons. If it stays the same then you have a broken phone.

Can you please elaborate. How do I perform the hard reset when I can't see anything on the screen? I know for a fact that the screen is done for. I just need to know if the main board is still salvageable by replacing the LCD and digitizer.

You can't do a hard reset without a screen as it involves booting into recovery, then navigating using volume keys. If you have a custom recovery installed then it's even riskier to try it without the screen. So don't try it.
I'm assuming that the phone doesn't show up as an MTP device when you connect it to a PC?

Thank you for understanding my poor explanation. Yes, you are correct. Phone does not show up as MTP device when connected to my computer anymore. Does that mean I should assume the worst?
Unfortunately, yes. Just a shattered screen wouldn't cause 10 minute long boots every time (blue light only blinks when booting up, at Samsung logo) and the absence of MTP (even with lockscreen password/PIN/pattern the device shows up as MTP but it doesn't show the data unless it's unlocked first). It seems that the logic board of the handset is damaged in some capacity so just replacing the screen and digitizer won't do the trick.

If your charging led and hard key lights blink, your phone is good. A display assembly replacement would help.

This helped me a lot.
After i flashed cm13,
I charged my phone using car charger
While it is charged, i hold down the power button until it is rebooted
I do it twice to get my fingerprint scanner back alive.
Sorry for my bad english.
I was wondering if I could get a little input from some experienced users of the Oneplus devices. I am traditionally a HTC One person. I love the Sense UI's going back to Sense 5. And the One devices sturdy build and strong hardware specs.
I have noticed that the Oneplus 2 is virtually the same spec wise as the One M9. They have the same CPU and similar RAM. The biggest difference in specs would be the display size, resolution and PPI.
I am really tempted to go with the Oneplus 2 mostly for the display size. I just was curious if anyone who uses it also had some experience with a Sense UI device and how they compare. And basically overall comparison to the HTC One M8 or M9.
Thanks,

Because home button probably we need someone who's good with partitions. In other post I've read like who fixed the problem with the modem and Imei, somehow with fastboot "erase modem". Perhaps similar to what needs to be done with Home button issue. But which partition is responsible for driver of the Home button? Sorry for my English

Brother just wipe cache, delvik, data and system than install new modem with exodus 6.0.1 and open google app.now reboot.
When the phone will boot your fingerprint sensor andhome button will start working.
It's the method which helped me to reset my OnePlus 2.
Press thanks if i helped.
why is it all of a sudden a lot of people (including my self) are having finger printer reader / home button issue on various OS. I was on CM13, some people are on Oxy****. Is there some sort of hardware firmware issue ?

It is not hardware defect my friend.i have come to this conclusion after two times home button and fingerprint sensor failure.
Solution-Wipe system, data, cache and delvik cache in TWRP recovery and flash new modem, exodus 6.0 and open google app and reboot.
I have rocked my OnePlus 2 last three months without fingerprint sensor and dead home button.it is the solution which worked for me.

I think its a mix of luck and bad hardware.
Think has been more than a month since I faced that failure in oxislim, no software solutions worked.
Failure, made a twrp backup, tried every software solution, like clear cache, stopped services, clean flash, stock full zip, etc etc, restored twrp backup started using software buttons, then I just started pressing the home button with my fingernail, really hard like trying to scratch the sensor, and somehow it chance to home screen, tested again, unlocked using FP and it has been flawless since.

It's not luck my friend,it's a software glitch.
Oneplus should consider it and correct in any software update.

how is it a software glitch? CM13 is not even officially released by OnePlus and it too has problems. I am on CM13 seraph's build and my finger print scanner and home button are toast. I'm f'ing fed up with OnePlus, not giving this company a chance any more. Had issues with my OPO and now my OPT.

I cannot confirm is a software issue but I bet is a hardware defect, why?
In my own experience I blame hardware failure like a bad contact gound issue or something just because software didn't fixed my issue, I did something physically to the hardware and instantly started working, since that failure I've been in stock, oxyslim, h2os, customs and never had an issue.
Also couple of people reported using their phone with wet hands or around moisture and FP stopped working, mine fail in a moisture environment (pocket+exercise+hot weather=sweat).
What I think is that reflashing, clearing cache, charging 0-100 they all make the phone heats, with heat moisture goes out and FP start working again, mine didn't
I made a nandroid of my phone (all software is copied including every "software issue")
Changed everything of the software side. Didn't fixed my issue.
Restored nandroid (the one with the same "software issue" I started) is not fixed. At this point I'm angry and frustrated I scratch and press my home button with my fingernail and it start working again.
My personal opinion based on my experience, mine was software? definitely no.

So your home button is completely dead? I guess you tried fixing it via software, any success?

False recent app presses causing multi-window to activate?

I keep getting multi window popping up for no reason. I rest my phone on my pinky when I use it and wonder if that has something to do with it. Like the capacitive key is shorting on the frame and registering my pinky as a capacitive key press. I've watched as it happens and my pinky is no where near the recent apps key, basically dead center on the charging port. Anyone else having this issue? Really don't want to go through the hassle of a return, but it's getting really annoying.
The same issue for me. Once it appeared when i only read a web page and didn't youch the screen. I have S7, not edge.
I'd suspected Google keyboard but I uninstalled it and the issue remains.

Just happened again without my pinky on the bottom. Seems to be most prevalent soon after or right after unlocking the phone.
Are you left handed? When I didn't have a case, I kept accidentally pressing the back key with my palm without realising but I'm right handed

Can anyone who knows hardware weigh in on this?

I can't tell you why it's happening, but I will say that this is one reason many Android fans prefer on-screen buttons that are controlled by the touchscreen drivers. They are more reliable and don't have little issues like being too sensitive or not sensitive enough or ghost presses, etc.
I have/had the same issue, i called Samsung and they told me the update that came today (around 60MB) could fix it but they were not sure, they told me to do a factory reset if the update didn't help, i did and i haven't had the annoying multi window popup after that. tho i cant be 100% its fixed. the issue were quite constant before i did the factory reset and it happen 5-10 seconds after i unlocked the screen. i have unlocked the phone over 40 times after the factory reset(after i finished installing apps etc) and everything works like it should, so it looks good so far. i will keep you updated tho. Normal OTA. Settings -> About Device -> Download Updates Manually.
My Phone is a "Nordic Edition" but the model is SM-G935F so it is the international one.
My carrier is Telenor Norway.

Thanks, this is very perfect answer. I tried only reboot and it seems OK now. Perhaps some ghost in the device?
In every case I'm waiting for update and hope it'll help.
I have exactly the same issue, so far I couldn't solve it

the issue is not fixed i'm afraid. i got the multi view popup again when i was using chrome. so the update did nothing :/ i'm gonna replace the device i think, i'm gonna call Samsung tomorrow and get them to use the app "Smart Tutor" so the can check if it is a hardware or a software issue. ill keep you posted.
A temp fix you can use is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nerd.multiwindowtoggle the app will disable the multi window feature so when the phone presses the button by itself nothing happens. cheers
Same issure here (I'm left handed). Can the "multi-window" thing be deactivated ? I never use it...
But to be honest, I don't see it as a bug, maybe as a design bug. The button is too close to the edge of the phone and edge of the screen, this is bound to happen.

I could understand accidentally hitting it, sure. However, I have no fingers near the recent apps button when it activates. That's why I theorized it shorting out on the frame of the phone.

I have the issue on S7, flat version. It appears also when it lays at the desk and I don't touch it.
