I keep getting multi window popping up for no reason. I rest my phone on my pinky when I use it and wonder if that has something to do with it. Like the capacitive key is shorting on the frame and registering my pinky as a capacitive key press. I've watched as it happens and my pinky is no where near the recent apps key, basically dead center on the charging port. Anyone else having this issue? Really don't want to go through the hassle of a return, but it's getting really annoying.
The same issue for me. Once it appeared when i only read a web page and didn't youch the screen. I have S7, not edge.
I'd suspected Google keyboard but I uninstalled it and the issue remains.

Just happened again without my pinky on the bottom. Seems to be most prevalent soon after or right after unlocking the phone.
Are you left handed? When I didn't have a case, I kept accidentally pressing the back key with my palm without realising but I'm right handed

I can't tell you why it's happening, but I will say that this is one reason many Android fans prefer on-screen buttons that are controlled by the touchscreen drivers. They are more reliable and don't have little issues like being too sensitive or not sensitive enough or ghost presses, etc.
I have/had the same issue, i called Samsung and they told me the update that came today (around 60MB) could fix it but they were not sure, they told me to do a factory reset if the update didn't help, i did and i haven't had the annoying multi window popup after that. tho i cant be 100% its fixed. the issue were quite constant before i did the factory reset and it happen 5-10 seconds after i unlocked the screen. i have unlocked the phone over 40 times after the factory reset(after i finished installing apps etc) and everything works like it should, so it looks good so far. i will keep you updated tho. Normal OTA. Settings -> About Device -> Download Updates Manually.
My Phone is a "Nordic Edition" but the model is SM-G935F so it is the international one.
My carrier is Telenor Norway.

Thanks, this is very perfect answer. I tried only reboot and it seems OK now. Perhaps some ghost in the device?
In every case I'm waiting for update and hope it'll help.
I have exactly the same issue, so far I couldn't solve it

the issue is not fixed i'm afraid. i got the multi view popup again when i was using chrome. so the update did nothing :/ i'm gonna replace the device i think, i'm gonna call Samsung tomorrow and get them to use the app "Smart Tutor" so the can check if it is a hardware or a software issue. ill keep you posted.
A temp fix you can use is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.nerd.multiwindowtoggle the app will disable the multi window feature so when the phone presses the button by itself nothing happens. cheers
Same issure here (I'm left handed). Can the "multi-window" thing be deactivated ? I never use it...
But to be honest, I don't see it as a bug, maybe as a design bug. The button is too close to the edge of the phone and edge of the screen, this is bound to happen.

I could understand accidentally hitting it, sure. However, I have no fingers near the recent apps button when it activates. That's why I theorized it shorting out on the frame of the phone.

I did a DIY digitizer replacement a month or so ago, and its been working great up until a few days ago. Now, when I go to touch one of the soft buttons or type on the keyboard, the phone "flips out" and starts registering inputs in all random spots, sometimes getting stuck on that spot. I am totally stumped.
I double checked and all the ribbon cables are seated and such, and tried flashing over to Modaco rom from Cyanogen (thinking it might be software)... no luck. Can't even replicate it consistently, it seems to have a mind of its own.
Any thoughts as to what is going on?
Well I know that it has been an issue for some people and the general idea is that if you push the power button and put the screen to sleep and then wake it back up 20 seconds or so later it will work again. I have to say to also wipe your screen clean as well, build up on the screen can cause wonky behavior as well. Good luck.
Mike
this sounds exactly like the glitch that all nexus ones have, stock ROM. just lock then unlock the screen and it fixes itself.
the word is that it will be fixed with the 2.2 update. fingers crossed.
I thought it was that issue I read as well, but the power button glitch-fix everyone speaks of doesn't work.
I actually used my pry-tools to unseat the digitizer from the rest of the phone and kinda let it dangle, and 90% of the issues disappeared.
I am wondering if it might be the digitizer pressing up against the metal backing thats causing it to ground out and cause these issues, since the original phone was held in by a foam-type adhesive which I don't have on it now.
that's very possible. the power button resets my glitch 100% of the time. so sounds like something else is going on with yours.

I don't think its the famous touchscreen issue that we've heard because it was reported to register a click few centimeters below the touch point. Here in this case, the guy says that it randomly registers clicks at different spots.

I hope that reboot fixes this problem....
I've given up on the task for now, went back to my iPhone 2G till I can figure this out... its definitely not software though... and the digitizer still registers accurately when I don't have it seated into the phone...
No issues here on cyanogen 5. 0. 6 I love this Rom and have 0, yes I said it zero issues..... running solid for almost a month.... sorry ya have them issues I hope ya get em figured out...
As others says, just a quick lock & unlock fixes this. No need to wait 20 secs, I do it right away. Power, power, slide to unlock and I'm back in business.
For me I'd say it happens maybe a couple times a week? What about other people?
On stock it happened like once a week.... for me
none on custom so far after 3 weeks
yeah a couple times a week is it for me too. I wonder if view identified the issue and fixed it in the update. I'm sure some Google employees experience the bug.
Hi all,
I'm new here, a friend refered me this page to ask for some troubles I'm having with my Nexus 4.
I bought it from ebay about 4 months ago. For all this time, it worked perfectly, no problems at all, running fine.
The thing is that this last week the telephone is doing strange things. While using it, at a few minutes of use, "phantasmal touches" occurs, getting hit the buttons from back, back to desktop and last applications.
Also, after some minutes, or just touching the screen for scroll, the slide malfunction, getting harder to slide, even sometimes this doesn't works, but touching stills operative (sometimes not).
The only way that temporarily works, is locking and unlocking the screen, but problem still appear again and again.
Tried also to restore it (like as it was new). But nothing.
Hope you can help me with this. Thanks.

The problem stills, for example, im in facebook or whatsapp, i slide up and down for reading, and from the nothing it's harder to slide/scroll... it's not that sensitive as before. I mean, with just a slide of the finger at early is scrolls fast, as it must be, but for some reason, after a few slides, with the same finger slide, it just scrolls a bit.

Hi guys
I have moved from iPhone to a note 4 and loving it!
I was just wondering if anyone has found the touch screen occasionally doesn't respond to their touch and you have to touch it again. On the iPhone it only ever missed a touch if my finger was in the wrong place, but it never happened on the keyboard. Every so often maybe 5/6 times a day I touch a key on the keyboard and nothing happens, when I try again it's fine. I can't reproduce it, because when I tap anywhere on the keyboard something gets pressed. I was just wondering if this was normal?
Hope you are enjoying your phones!!
Anyone?
It's most likely cause your palm is on the phone. One of the downsides of a slim bezel on a big phone. Also keep in mind if your spen is on the screen, your fingers won't work. A case might help.
I thought about another part of my hand touching the screen, however with half my hand layed across my keyboard I can still type with the other hand. Thanks for the response
I Pele tried factory resetting today and not installed any apps, but it is still happening
I rang Samsung this morning and they advised I return I to the store and get an exchange. Luckily my local store got its first batch of note 4s in this morning and they swapped it out. I restored it all firmware updates put on it and now works fine! The only thing I haven't installed is a Google play system update thing. I was wondering if that was the cause x
Similar issues
I've had similar issues (in fact, that's what brought me here in the first place). Initially, I was able to tap on the screen in the text box and then continue typing (I use Swype). However, now my messaging app (default Messages) just freezes up, forcing me to close the app, clear the memory, and relaunch the app before continuing.
Were you using the default app and/or Swype when you had issues? I'm going to try to factory reset my phone to see if it helps.
It's taken a couple of weeks for this problem to develop, so please keep us posted if this problem arises again on your new phone!
Edit: Also want to point out that when I text, I use one hand to hold the phone and only a finger to swipe my text. As such, only the one finger touches the screen.
unable to use touch screen. only hard key were working >>Note4

Same thing happened to me last night. The touchscreen became unresponsive while using chrome. The phone was a little warm but not bad. I didn't try the pen, sounds like a good idea. I am not certain it was a touch screen issue with mine. Almost more of a processor issue. I got the phone to lock. After pressing the menu or lock button to wake the screen it would take 5-10 seconds to wake. Then I could swipe my unlock pattern. It would not show any lines. I would wait, the screen would turn black after timing out in about 5s. The about 5s after I could hear the speaker make the unlock sound. I ended up doing a battery pull and that fixed the issue. Anyone else have something similar?
Should I try and replace it?

Observe to see if it happens when you're using other apps too. Chrome has been notorious for causing all sorts of problems, like reboots, freezes, etc on some devices.
Also it may be worth installing Chrome Samsung Support Library.

Got the same problem after 2 months of normal usage... I initially though I had installed a third party application which was causing the system freeze but this was not the problem.
- tried factory resetting and not installed any apps, but it is still happening
- When this happens if I take out the spen .... surprise it work. The pen allows me to do anything... But the touch screen does not work with fingers...
- I used the pen to reboot the note4... Still the same problem after reboot... I ended up doing a battery pull and that fixed the issue for.... a couple of minutes... Then the problem came back....
The only solution remaining was to return the phone.... They gave me a Note3 while my Note4 is being repaired...
That's a shame for a product of that price!
:crying:
Same thing is happening with my 2 months old note4 since two weeks ago. An horizontal line 1.5cm in width about 1/3 from the bottom of the screen, became unresponsive. At reboot it works sometimes then it becomes unresponsive again. It looks like in the image I attached, the difference is that the area is horizontal, not vertical. I'm taking my note4 to the store today for warranty, hopefully they will replace it. I haven't abused the device in any way, I have a screen protector since its first day.. I really hope this isn't a serious problem that affects many users.
Just like some of you mentioned above, the pen has no issues on any area of the screen.
Cheers!

This problem look like a driver for touch corrupted, if somebody find it out how to fix or have any ideea please weritte here, thanks you
I've started to have this problem as well, lower part of the left side of the screen sometimes registers touch instead of scrolling! Very annoying, tried to update recovery, tried tapping screen, doesn't help. The worst thing is I cannot reproduce the issue at will... It seems pretty random.

Unfortunately, if the phone is on Verizon, the dialing codes will be disabled.
Potential fix.
Please excuse the necropost But I came here looking for a solution from google and others may too. I found a way to solve this issue/s.
There appear to be two issues affecting this.
1. Overloading the processor.
2. Static.
If your touch input is lagging or doesn't register at all but then suddenly does a few moments later, its likely a type 1. problem. I fixed this by disabling resource intensive features such as s voice. This also improved battery life and overall performance considerably.
If touch simply doesn't work at all, but s pen works fine then the problem is more likely type 2. That being static buildup in your person. Simply touch something that can ground you and it should fix the issue. A metal tap should work. Be wary, you might even get a little zap as you discharge
For the past few weeks I noticed I couldn't respond to posts unless I removed the keyboard and brought the button to the bottom of the screen.
Then I realised that area of the screen just did not respond to anything, like in contacts I couldn't select letters in that area.
I enabled screen touches and they were showing up but there was no response from the OS.
I did a search and one fix was to clear the cache in recovery, which worked for a few hours maybe.
The next step is factory reset which I'll do if it's a permanent fix, but I'd rather not otherwise if I really just need a new phone.
No root so any backup will not be a full one so I'd rather just start again on a new phone if that's what it takes.
Has anyone had this?
Mine is the international version.
Well, today I mentioned this to work mate as it's been rather annoying so I prepared a screen to show them the issue at the store and now it's been working ever since.
Up until at least yesterday it was still happening. Very confusing as I was going to bite the bullet and backup what I could and try a new phone as it doesn't seem like a widespread problem.
Part of Touch Screen not working
I have the same issue with my S7 Edge too. It's really annoying especially when you are typing a message and can't send it because that particular area of the screen is not responding to touch. Now I have to type in a message and close the keyboard just to bring the send button down and tap on it. The issue gets solved when i restart the device but the problem continues after a few hours of normal use. Does anyone have a solution to this , Please?
Ok, my phone did reboot last night so it will probably come back.
You have exactly the same symptoms as me.
My girlfriend has the AT&T version of this phone and she has had the same exact problem the past few weeks. Like someone above said, it's right where the send button is in the SMS app.
I wonder what this issue could be?
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app
Well, you can blow me over with a feather as mine has been fine now for about three days, since I was about to show them in the store and ask for a new one.
Hi ,
I recently had a bad time getting our of the DFU mode, had to open the hand set, move things around and hoping to get through this all, now that the handset is alive again, the Back and Recent Capacitive buttons are not working, however the Home button is working fine.... I then proceeded to unlock the boot loader and loaded the Vortex rom but it still has not fixed my phone, so is this something which i screwed up during my dissembling of the phone or can this still be salvaged??

I would try and open it again to look and see if anything is loose with the connectors for the capacitive buttons.

I think maybe on the side where the battery is resting. I'll have to go take a look again to confirm but I'm in a lecture at college right now so when I have time I'll come back and confirm it.

I would be grateful !
I think it hasn't got a dedicated connector, it might be the same connector as the screen. Maybe seeing JerryRigEverything's video would be better though

Did you get a chance to find out what was the problem?
I'm not sure if Vortex ROM has this setup, however did you try the button swap in settings? I have seen this happen before with a teardown but haven't seen a solid solution.
