General LG data issues - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I've had every LG phone since the Optimus G. But after having an LG for a few months I end up having to switch to another brand because of this issue. I've only experienced this issue with LG Android phones and the V20 is no different.
ISSUE:
My issue is that my apps won't sync properly without toggling wifi or airplane mode. For example: apps like Facebook, email, GroupMe, or anything with push notifications will stop syncing till I actually open up the app then I get swarmed with notifications and the app will continue to push future notifications for about 30 minutes to an hour then stop. Sometimes these apps will lose all connections to the internet completely and the only way to fix it is to open the recents tab and swipe it away and reopen the app. Facebook is the absolute worse at this. I literally have to do this Everytime I leave the app. Only way I can post comments or watch videos or view new post I have to first close the app and reopen the app. Sometimes (at least once a day or once every other day) I have to either toggle airplane mode on and off to get data to work at all. I don't believe it's the apps. As sometimes I lose all data and if I'm not near wifi I have to toggle airplane mode. If I'm near wifi I can enable wifi and disable it and my carrier data will work fine. This is an all day thing and it's super annoying. It's the only issue I have with LG. I've never had this issue with HTC Motorola or Samsung. I have had replacement after replacement and still have the exact same issue. My V20 is not rooted yet, still stock, but I have rooted and flashed custom Roms for my past LG devices and the issue continues.

Data Constantly In Use

So for the second day straight my phone battery has dropped to half in about 4 hours screen off in my pocket... After closing every program and turning off data sync, the 3G connection is still constantly in use. I downloaded a network traffic program to check usage, and to my surprise my phone had downloaded over 60MB in just 1 hour. I restarted the phone and the problem seemed to be fixed, however it's started back up again, even after restarts and switch from airplane mode and back.
I'm already using SwitchPro, I have all sync options turned off already. The problem didn't come up until a few days ago.
I haven't installed any new programs or widgets in the last couple of daysIs anyone else having a similar issue? Have you been able to solve it?
I had the same issue then I flashed Fresh. Now it is working proper. I would suggest flashing a dif ROM or factory reset.
Load aLogcat or Quicksysteminfo , from market and look at your logcat file. The cause will be obvious from there. If the phone is "idle" and the logcat is recording what's doing the data moving, you can then kill it.
Is it me or is the hands free Bluetooth constantly running even when unchecked.Maybe im looking at the log cat wrong but it appears that way
It looks like location services was using all that data. I think anyway, I'm not sure If read the logcat right, but a lot of that information dealt with location stuff. I went to settings, privacy, and disable google services from using my location and the constant 3g seems to have stopped.
Why would it just go ape **** like that after having the phone for 3 weeks?
I just noticed the same problem, turns out it was the people app that was causing it. I killed it and data traffic stopped. You can launch it from the menu and it loads back up and is fine. Just seems to be when it starts by itself when you first boot up the phone.

Loving the marshmallow update but issues now with notifications

Hi guys
I updated to MM on Sunday night and find it really good. But one issue I have is with doze and gmail. When the phone is left for a while doing nothing and it goes in to doze mode I do not get gmail notifications. Sometimes they come through hours later, other times I have to go in to the gmail app and manually refresh. I have gone in to the doze setting and excluded gmail but the issue is still there. Also I have an android wear watch and if I loose signal whilst going out of the room it doesn't always reconnect until I pick up the phone (movement to the phone disables doze).
I know it's a widespread issue with the nexus phones as well but wondered if anyone had any fixes until Google get their act together?

This problem has been going on for a week or two now. Phone worked great when I first got it, but something must have changed (newest Verizon update, perhaps?)
Let me preface this by saying I've seen this happen both on Wi-fi and 4G. When on Wi-fi, and it happens, I've tried turning Wi-fi off and still get the same errors.
The apps affected seem to be random. A couple days ago it was Google Maps, I was getting the "offline navigation" prompt. Today it was Chase (couldn't screenshot it), TeamViewer, IMDb and so on.
Here are some screenshots. Note the time in the pictures.
- First encountered the problem when opening TeamViewer.
- Did a Speedtest to confirm that yes, I'm really on 4G as the phone shows, and it's quite a stable and fast connection too.
- Let's try some more apps. Here's Target's Cartwheel
- Delta app? Same problem.
- TeamViewer Host app. Same problem as the client.
- IMDb. One more random one not working.
- Lastly, I went back to Pokémon Go to confirm I DO still have network connectivity (not sure why the screenshot got ghosted like that, but you can see I just redeemed items from a Pokéstop I was near with no errors)
So as you can see, the phone itself, as well as certain apps, work fine. But others don't. I tried turning airplane mode on and back off, disabling/enabling mobile networks, nothing works. The only thing I can do is reboot the phone.
Any ideas? This gets incredibly annoying as I can't seem to go a whole day without *some* app whining that it has no network access. Some apps work flawlessly every time (like the aforementioned Pokémon Go) but others don't.
By the way, that little screenshot button in the bottom left is from this neat app called Custom Navigation Bar. I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with this problem, though, all it does is add buttons.

Do you have powersave mode on? I've had some problems with it enabled..
No I don't have power save mode on. Should I turn off the power monitoring of apps as well? Didn't think that mattered as long as power save mode was off.

You could try. I dont know, what i Said about powersave profile in battery settings Was My bet.

I turned all the power saving stuff off and still have this happening. As in, I set it to not even monitor how much power each app is using.

Delayed notifications on V20 - help!

Hey all,
Struggling with my V20. I've had it since launch and never had a single issue like this prior. I first started experiencing issues with no notifications showing up on my phone, unless I went into the app (hangouts, gmail, work email, etc.), when I traveled to the west coast (which caused a time change) about two weeks ago. As soon as I came back to EST, everything was working for ... a day. Notifications stopped working again.
So I factory reset my phone and things were better, but still not perfect. Regularly not getting notifications between my primary applications (good for enterprise, gmail, hangouts and google voice). The issue appears to be more so when on WiFi. As soon as I change to cellular I get MOST of my notifications (not all).
I installed Push Notifications which seemed to initially help, but thereafter, no dice. I'm not using any battery saving apps either.
I'm at a loss. What am I doing wrong/missing that I'm having all these issues?

I had the same issue. I contacted T-Mobile about it, and the problem seemed to just go away, so it could have been a network problem. However, I also rolled back SuperSU from 2.82 to the 2.79 SR3 by flashing it in TWRP. You should try that and prevent SuperSU from upgrading in the Play Store.

Now that you mention it, I have had the issue recently as well. I will open snap chat and have snaps or hangouts and have messages. I do not have any kind of battery saver on or block apps from sending notifications. I am on ATT.
I have a friend who's having this exact same issue. He's on the 14B update from Verizon. We're thinking of trying a factory data reset to see if it solves the issue.
Yup. I got the same problem. Unlocked, on Verizon.
LG phones have always seemed to have this issue. This phone, my G5, G4... Annoying
I think I may have found a fix for it. I'll post a YouTube later.

Same issue with Gmail and my work email. I open the app and get flooded with notifications that had never come through.

I know Gmail has had its own issue with notifications that is not related to the phone. Many users including myself get delayed Gmail notifications or not at all. There is a bug tracker on the forum that Google states they apparently fixed but people still complain. It is frustrating.
I'm noticing that the Google app is causing delayed push notifications on all apps for me. I am able to reproduce the delay when connecting bluetooth devices (you may even notice it takes ~10 seconds for the bluetooth connection notification to show up on the secondary screen). I'm seeing the issue go away if you disable the Google app. I'm curious to see if this fixes the delay for other people. Try freezing/disabling the Google app.
I've been using Push Notification Tester where I'm able to see some heavy delays in push notifications being received. Specifically with Bluetooth connect events so far. I found the culprit to be the Google app by watching logs (logcat) and seeing reports that the app is processing events for 10 seconds per event which blocks the queue. If I continuously connect/disconnect bluetooth devices I will see push messages fail to be received for a long time (10 seconds for each bluetooth event adds up....)
If you're only experiencing issues with a specific app this might not be the the same issue. Worth noting I was able to reproduce this issue with a Galaxy S8. Figure I'd just share my findings.

So, upon restarting my phone, these notifications (along with 20+ others) finally came through. Appears the only way I can get notifications is as follows:
1) Switch from WiFi to cellular, or vice versa, or Airplane mode - some notifications come through
2) Forcing a manual refresh while within an app
3) Restart the phone
I'm going bananas over here. Ready to smash this thing. I don't understand why doing a factory reset didn't fix this issue.

By disabling the Google app, this simply rolls back the version of it. Is that you've found to be successful?

I do want to say that this issue is only happening on a recent release of the Google app since I suddenly started noticing this problem one day.
Therefore, rolling the Google app back may solve the problem, but I can't be for sure. You most likely won't be able to disable the Google app via the standard interface. You would need to be rooted and disable/freeze it with an app such as Titanium Backup or 3C System Tuner.
If you want to continue to use the Google app, you can get more advanced and specifically disable the receiver that the Google app is using to intercept the events. Note, though, that this may have side effects on the app, but I have yet to notice any issues. Using 3C System Tuner you can disable the "com.google.android.apps.gsa.broadcastreceiver.CommonBroadcastReceiver" receiver which is what is intercepting and delaying the events/notifications.

My US996 unlocked V20 has been getting progressively worse on bluetooth connections the last couple of months. After waiting and waiting for LG to update the phone, I decided to unlock and root recently. I am still on a stock rom, but at least I have options now.
Using 3C System Tuner to disable CommonBroadcastReceiver as you have shown has been the greatest help of anything I have done. This info could easily merit it's own thread under "V20 bluetooth connection issues".
Before applying your work-around my phones bluetooth connections would become less and less consistent, slow to connect, fail to connect, stuck secondary screen connect notifications, and require frequent reboots to connect to my vehicle.
After disabling CommonBroadcastReceiver, connections are quick and mostly reliable, no stuck secondary screen notifications.
I believe the blame for these problems lies with LG and their lack of attention to google android updates. Google might have fixed these issues 6 months ago and LG has not done anything about it. My US996 was last updated December of 2016, LG said they have no update scheduled for my phone. No security updates, no android updates.

ive had this issue going on for a few months now. how does the google app affect text notifications? this is so frustrating and i am on call for work and i am missing notifications in the middle of the night.

Problem with push notifications when phone is sleeping / idle

I'm running a stock Verizon HTC 10 with the latest OTA updates. This phone seems to have a problem with push notifications after it has been "sleeping" or idle for awhile. I don't know exactly what that time period is, but it seems to be about 30 minutes. Once the screen goes black and the phone has been idle in this state for this time period, the phone stops getting (or checking for-however that works) push notifications. There is no blinking LED or sound notification that mail has come for gmail or Outlook. The phone will still answer calls and notify upon receipt of text messages. Usually within a few seconds of turning the screen on from the idle state, the gmail and Outlook notifications come. When the phone screen is on, or within a few minutes of turning the screen off, the push notifications will still come, but then stop.
I googled about this, and there seems to be quite a bit of discussion about it. I have tried the suggested remedies, but they don't work (unsync/sync gmail, clear data/cache for the apps, turn battery optimization off, delete/re-add accounts, along with some others). For work, I have a Samsung Galaxy S7, and it doesn't have this problem. Furthermore, my wife also has an HTC 10, and her phone doesn't seem to have the problem either (although I have not tested it thoroughly).
I've been through various settings, checked the do not disturb settings, but I can't seem to figure this out. I am probably missing some setting. It seems that the phone is going into some deep sleep mode after a period of time and disabling these apps, but keeping others, like the phone and SMS functions, alive.
Any suggestions?

Are you using power saver mode? What about the boost+ app?
Also a lot of people started having similar issues after the first update to Nougat for U.S Unlocked. Later updates fixed the issue, but it sometimes still happening with Gmail for me.

I am not using power saver mode, and the Verizon version doesn't have the boost+ app installed.
