Can someone explain the benefit of Band 3 and band 8 in the USA? Before I try this.
I was under the assumption that Band 12 was the future?
Anyone unlock Band 20 guys?
@Amd4life When we were originally doing this on the OPO it was to "unlock" bands 2 and 12, but we found the antenna wasn't hooked up to the pins so unlocking didn't help the US phones but did unlock it (kinda) on the China market ones.
Honestly I'm not sure, other than a repeat of the case above, what we'll see as an added benefit this time.
***********EDIT**************
To answer your question for US people we will see NO benefit.
B3 and B8 are used in most of the world, but the US doesn't use them. US carriers use 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 17, 25, 26 and/or 41.

We can add AT&T's Band 30 as an important LTE Band to this list. My 3T was on this new band yesterday 3/21/17 in NJ.
This kinda has me hoping that someone will be able to get it to work with the new AWS-3 / Band 66.
Has anyone actually attempted or successfully completed this on the 3T? The guide references files specific to the 3 only, so wanted to ask.
Has anyone oneplus 3T a3003 model?
I need a3003 qcn file.

Hello,
I received my Oneplus 2 today and it does not support the LTE Band 20. It`s the chinese Version and i would like to ask if anyone figured out a method to unlock the LTE Band 20. It`s because the Hardware of the Oneplus Chinese version is the same like the European version.

Sounds like the OPO all over again. Remember seeing varying reports of success with that.

Actually it seems it is not same hardware. The modem is propably different.
It is also clearly stated that the Chinese version doesn't have Band 20

I'm looking into the possibility of creating a hybrid radio that would allow us to gain the benefits of the newer enhancements to the 6.0.1 radio while still keeping band 12 lte. The tester would be flashing test radio's over and over and checking to see if they were able to connect to band 12. Rinse. Lather. Repeat. Nothing glamorous about it but you'd be helping your fellow band 12 users get the best radio they can get.
I'm not in a band 12 lte service area so am not able to test the proposed changes (which involve replacing one file in the modem image at a time until I find the magic 1 that gives us back lte band 12 assuming it's only 1 file).
It wouldn't be right away as I still have some research to do but thought I would toss this out early. If nobody is interested then I can skip the hours of work building 50 or 60 radio zips.
I'd help, but no lte band 12 here in Canada, 4, 40 and 42 only with Telus.

Band 12 LTE is predominantly used by T-Mobile however other carriers like Cricket apparently also use it. You can use an app called "LTE Discovery" to determine if your phone see's band 12 available. It has a log feature where you can turn on logging, drive around a bit then turn logging back off and look at what towers it found. Ideally my tester needs to be someone who is in band 12 and can see it because when the test version doesn't work they can go back to their OWN radio to confirm band 12 is back.
Here is T-mobile's band 12 coverage map..you can zoom into your area to see if they are reporting band 12 available: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1LVpCwuJ_r0YGvouFoUJJLje5WXw&hl=en_US You would however have to have TWRP back before you'd be able to help test.
As for your other questions, I'd ask you to ask them in the marshmallow thread in android development. I just finished a post that describes the hoops you have to go through.

Your willingness is appreciated but it needs to be someone who can still GET band 12 so they can back up their modem and return to it if they have problems. This is also the only way they would detect if they were in a band 12 coverage area at the time they are testing before switching out to a test radio.
Various websites confirm its compatible with LTE band 17. My other phone connects to it while in my house, but the Zenfone will mostly connect to HSPA+, or sometimes LTE band 2. I cannot get it to stay connected to LTE unless I get into town or on the highway. (Actually as I'm typing, it switched to LTE band 2, but in awhile it will go back to HSPA)
If I root is there any way to unlock band 17? I'm in the US and my carrier runs off AT&T towers. I got this phone specifically because band 17 reaches far off places much better but I am unable to use it.
Edit: I just realized the model number in the Android settings is "asus_Z012DA" and that apparently is not a US variant. I didn't know about the different variants at all. Am I out of luck?

Hi!
Your correct model for band 17 should be Z012DC, the same used in Brazil.

For the time being yes you are. There is a way to unlock LTE bands on Qualcomm devices, but it seems ASUS has a fail safe built into kernel preventing it at the moment. If there is ever a custom rom developed for your phone then it maybe possible to unlock band 17. Until then no. I have been trying on my Zenfone 3 Ultra. Got as far as entering in the values for the bands I want and when I reboot it resets them to default. You can read up on it here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone-3/help/help-putting-phone-usb-diag-mode-t3571627
Me and another user have been working on it. Maybe it might work for your phone. Always a chance.

Yeah I realize that now. Even though I'm stuck with my phone, I still can't find the z012dc for sale anywhere. Practically no seller online lists which variant it is. In fact, after a few hours of research, I never even knew there was specifically variants.

Whoa thanks man. I'll keep checking back and maybe I'll try it myself. Seems you guys are close.
I must say though, this isn't a complete deal breaker, though I am stuck with this phone anyway. The Hspa network is actually FASTER than LTE band 17 in my house. I'm just afraid if I travel somewhere and only band 17 is available I might run into some trouble. But then again, 3g or Hspa might still be able to connect.
As you might know, the Mi 6 was announced today. The specs look great for the price (see http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/new-product/mobile-phone/xiaomi-mi6-news-release-date-price-features-specifications-3653263/) and I thought I finally found the phone I really wanted.
But then the old story hit me again. No support for LTE band 20. As I live in Germany this means no matter what provider I have, I will be affected with less LTE coverage.
So I created this thread to gather any news that involve the possibility and efforts of unlocking the LTE band 20 on the Mi 6.
I hope there are maybe similarities with the ongoing efforts of unlocking the bands of the Mi 5 (http://en.miui.com/thread-242834-1-1.html or here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/progress-trying-to-unlock-bands-t3337476).
When the Mi 6 is shipped, I hope this will get some attention and we may find a way to unlock it together. :fingers-crossed:
I have the Mi Note Pro and I never spotted anyone succeeding in unlocking band 20.
I live in France and band 20 is one of the 3 main bands but I never suffered any need for band 20. I even had a Sony Z5 premium which had all French bands and I had to switch to 3g because it wouldn't receive well when I am in bed.
Depending on your carrier if you have just another band and live in a city, not having band 20 is not a deal breaker in my humble opinion.
If you really need it I wouldn't wait for sure for a way to unlock band 20.
Mi6 can work with AT&T network?

Yes that is a valid point. As I live in Berlin I won't have any problems here. But since I travel around a lot for work countryside coverage would be a good benefit. But as you mentioned band 20 won't stop me from getting the Mi6.
This thread is just if anybody comes up with a good idea on how this could be done. Just as a 'bonus'.
The most active in unlocking lte bands are people in the OnePlus forum as far as I know.

Because it needs to do a lot, such as patents, internal structure, and so on.
Maybe Xiaomi note3 will behave better.
Band 20 in mi5 CAN NOT be unlocked. It is hardware limited. Please read thread mi5, page 76.
You only need schematic diagram, then you can see.

You could say the same for Oneplus's global and China variant. They must have their reasons. I'm sure everyone, let alone, Xiaomi, know that they don't benefit for locking the bands. So, there's no point speculating on why and rather to just accept the obvious that it was not for the US market or any other country that It's not being sold officially.

In short, band 12 is a low frequency signal. The towers can broadcast huge coverage areas with the low frequency at the cost lower speed than their band 4 coverage areas. Band 12 for is great at penetrating buildings with thick walls.
Very few phones support this freq on T-mobile and I was hoping the mini could do it.

Are you testing it in the same place(s) you've had other phones show band 12 on LTE discovery? Officially it should work as of the Jan 2017 update. I'm pretty sure I have had it show band 12 when I was on stock (not rooted). I don't have a way to verify this now as my Mini is on LOS which currently does not support band 12 nor Wi-Fi calling. It's also my "secondary" phone until I get time to return it to stock (or LOS gets that functionality).

Does your phone stay on LTE when making a call (VOLTE)? If yes, the phone is working on band 12.
According to these website, the A7M should work with Band 12 and VOLTE & WFC:
https://www.androidpolice.com/2017/...ini-t-mobile-volte-december-security-patches/
http://www.spectrumgateway.com/compatible-phones
You need to make sure your phone is on at least the Dec update, if not newer.
Spectrum gateway is pretty reliable. I would use them as a first resource when considering a non-Tmo phone. I am supposed to receive this phone tomorrow. Will update if B12/VOLTE/WFC works...
I got the phone today. I can confirm that both VOLTE and WiFi calling work on TMobile after installing the update from the ZTE website here: https://www.zteusa.com/axon-7mini#support
