you can disable the edge features and metal can't scratch gorilla glas because it scores low on the hardness scale but sand can cause them so make sure you have you trouser pockets sand free and you should be good

Haha I live in England not much of that around here .

Yep, also mine is, no sand involved. I guess that also very tiny dust particles could scratch the glass (especially when having thight jeans on)

First Scratch on glass

Had the phone a couple of weeks now and just noticed my first scratch on my screen..
I thought the gorilla glass would make this less of a problem but I've not done anything like drop it or drag it along anything.
Gorilla glas does not mean scratch proof, there are many things that can scratch it, for example sand particles.

hm are you sure?
if so that's disturbing, but i see how so many people buy screen protectors
Nope, just in my pocket and on the table with the glass facing upwards. Its just a wee one and not the end of the world but still a little annoying. I don't want to put a screen protector on it if I can help it.

I had 2 devices with gorilla screen, and they scratched after a few months of usage. Not taking anymore chances.
So what is the best screen protector? I like it just being the glass

never got a scratch on my n8 n omnia hd.
they weren't joking when they said its better to be safe than sorry, always use protection.
18 months with my HD2 with no protector and no scratches
I hope my soon-to-arrive SGS2 will fare as well.
yea i think i won't buy one either
GODZILLA GLASS TRUE FACTS:
It won't get scratches from your nails or from your normal keys or coins.
However, it will scratch with, and so please avoid, these objects:
1) Hardened steel (like expensive tools or expensive knives)
2) Precious STONE jewelry (if you are a woman, or loan your phone to a woman, or wear rings and earrings yourself, make sure precious stones like diamonds do not come in contact with the screen - they will scratch the screen with minimal or on effort; give your phone for 30 seconds to your girlfriend, she will put it to her ear, the ear has a diamond earring you gave her on Valentine's Day - she will give you the phone back with at least one scratch on it)
3) Glass cutting instruments and parts of those instruments (I hope I do not have to expain this one).
4) Most hard sands if applied properly
Edit:
Additional notes on OLEOPHOBIC COATING that SGS2 has
The oleophobic coating is also very sensitive. Avoid household solvents or strong cleaning liquids coming in contact with the screen. They will dissolve the oleophobic coating and only then you will understand how much your now defunct oleophobic coating was helping with finger prints, skin oil, and feminine skin care products (when the aforementioned girlfriend puts the phone to her freaking fake-looking powder- and foundation-covered cheek that produce a gooey oily mess when mixed with her normal face oils and sweat).
EDIT #2: I am not bad mouthing GG - it is a great product, and GG coupled with oleophobic coating provide for a GREAT EXCELLENT screen of SGS2.
It is way, way better than the cheap glass or plastic many cheap devices are sporting. Just please realize GG cannot and will not guarantee 100% protection from scratches or breaks.
gorilla is good enough to suffer from keys, knives, coins in test but it can be easilly scratched by sand.
But the scratches that you may see, is not the gorilla glass.
Screens on phones nowsaday are covered by a fingerprint proof ( although it's not effective) and the sand kill this proof easilly.

D
dropped my sgs2 down an escalator today ... glass didn't break nor got any scratches. gorilla glas rocks ...
I was REALLLY careful with my s1 at first. And I still managed to get scratches. SAND WILL SCRATCH IT. And I don't mean like lots of sand. I mean a few grains of sand left in your pocket from last summer.
Though I have to say that the scratches were invisible when the screen was on.
I also had scratches on my phone already and carried the damn thing in a pouch in my pocket...went to o2 today and got it exchange hehe, new phone I slapped screen protectors on straight away!!
i had two very fine scratches that were not noticeable on GSI. I don't think i'm going to have my phone long enough to care about the scratches later on.
also the coating on the GSII is awesome. It allows me to leave my microfiber wipe at home

How where you able to exchange it? what kind of arguments did you use?
I have a scratch on mine, its almost 6 days old. i think iam gonna try displex for touch screens

Gorilla Glass 3 micro scratches and Circle View case.

After 2 weeks of owning phone I finally put screen protector on it.
After cleaning my screen with the soft cloth and preparing it for application, I noticed it has A LOT of micro scratches.
Some aren't lineal scratches, either. Most were point scratches. I'm quite careful with my phone. Don't drop it. Haven't been to a beach with it. Only carry paper money and my bank card/license in the pocket with it. Have had Circle View cover from ASUS on it since day 1.
I think some pocket dust and the like must've gotten trapped on the inside surface of the Circle View cover and got pressed against the glass while in my pocket.
The micro scratches can only be seen in bright light when looking for them at the right angle so not a bother and impossible to see with screen protector now applied but let this be a warning to y'all - make sure you put a protector on your phone even if you baby it and especially if you have a cover type case on it!
interesting. i have no case or screen protector and i have no screen scratches, even after a good 6ft drop in the gym to the rubber floor.

I was extremely careful with mine as well, but ended up with several micro scratches. Likely you have them, but they're not easy to see. Need to look at the right angle in the right light. That being said, its difficult to call them scratches. They're so thin, certainly nothing you'd see unless looking carefully for them, and impossible to see with the screen on.

Yes. Same here. Nothing major and I can't see them now with a screen protector but it is disappointing that displays harder than quartz aren't available. Especially with the Circle View case being pushed so hard which at least provides as much protection in thickness as a tempered glass screen protector, since the tradeoff in shatter durability would be offset somewhat by the case.
same problem
i've the same problem, after read your post i've check mine and i've so micro scratch ! :/ what about there warranty 60 days ? because the day i received it i've seen 4 or 5 orange vertical pixel lines dead and now the micro scratch.
and many problems with sms / mms reception :S
i already wait the zenfone more than 1 month after the start of the shiping. i don't want to return them the phone and wait again !
You should RMA before time runs out. Dead pixels on a new phone is a huge flaw.
There seems to be many cases of micro scratches reported everywhere from zenfone users.
I am starting to suspect their gorilla 3 glass. I don't think they will lie about it but who knows if it is lower quality.
However the phone is extremely cheap so, there is not much blame you can place on cheaper parts.
I have a protector on since day one and the cutout areas have scratches on them.
It happened to me the same thing. That sucks !
(It happens too on Samsung S6 and S6 Edge... )
It's time for all the phone makers to drop the useless and costly glass and give us cheap plastic screen, so we can use the savings on the screen protector instead.
So last night, i dropped my 551ml faceflat on the bathroom floor.. my heart popped thinking about the screen until i picked it back up and saw that it did not scratch or break my bathroom tile is pretty freakin hard ... i have to say the drop had to be about 4-5 feet
Nice, no drops yet here

ZF2 GorillaGlass3 protection is just a joke!!

My Z008 has got scratches out of nowhere. I always check before placing my phone under pant pockets. Still don't know how come these scratches are appearing. Now looking for a screen guard.
It's the gorilla glass 3 problem, I had the same scratches on my galaxy s5,so I got a tempered glass which is allot better in terms of micro scratches.
But fear not it's not the actual glass that is being scratched but the nano coating on top of the glass which is used to give a soft slide feeling, that's why you only see then with the screen off and from an angle.
The camera lens also gets scratched pretty easily, ad the glossy black plastic frame around the screen also develops small dents even if my phone is in a Ringke case.
I guess they really had to cut corners to give good specs at a cheap price.

With original zen cover no scratches, both zcreen and camera lens. Only a little scratch from wife's dimond earring near front cam, she forget to close cover before phone call, so for me filmscreen is waste of money and touch felling, useless
Apparently all material very soft. Frame around screen really soft.

I have had my phone since mid July and no scratches, black bezel around camera lens still perfect. Phone goes into my pocket every day. I use a dedicated pocket ie: nothing else goes in that pocket.
With the inexpensive Ringke case Impossible to scratch camera bezel or lens when placing phone on its back as it is then inset. For people that carry stuff in pocket with the phone I am sure a case would help prevent scratches. $200 or $300 for the phone spend $10.99 for a case. Lots of people must be buying the case as price has gone up several dollars since I got it.
Tempered Glass protector
If you all are experiencing these micro scratches, it's sort of an inevitable thing. Gorilla glass scratches with grains of sand or little things from your pocket. If you're really worried about your phone, you can purchase a tempered glass screen protector, and a case to fully protect your device!
Case and tempered glass screen protector are a must. Added them as soon as I took my zen out the box
Tempered glass save my screen from crack also.
Even glass broken, but my phone screen is protected.
I've had no issues other then dropping and breaking the screen but the repair guys told me this phone for the cost is really well built with easy repairability

I quit using a case months ago (cheap crappy pleather wallet case I bought for it just irritates me, and my wife pinched my clear soft gel case). No scratches on screen, one or two minor dents on the black plastic edges but you'd need a magnifying glass to notice them. Very pleased - my previous phone (black slate iPhone 5) got scratches on it if you as much as looked at it, and silver scratches on slate iodised aluminium looked bloody awful.
i have a cover and dont worry about scratch )
Yea same problem got alot of faint scratches out of nowhere threw a tempered glass on
Have quie a few phones and tablets, every one since the Samsung Galaxy S3 has had a tempered glass screen protector installed.
I know this phone is supposed to be cheap in comparison with say, the note 5, but I don't have around $500AUD to throw away just because I cracked the screen, even $200 to repair is a kick in the nuts....
Those glass protectors have helped a lot of my phones survive intact.
I don't care if I don't notice the scratches when the screen is on.
For those hoping miracles on gorilla glass:
Diamonds only can be scratched by diamonds
Sapphire only can be scratched by sapphire or diamonds
Gorrillaglass can be scratched by the diamonds, sapphire or whatever is harder than GorillaGlass, this is the rule.
Where you can find things harder than gorilla glass?
a Jewelry ? sure,
the floor? - maybe, some dirt particles actually are are sand, in some places sand is composed by limestone someties harder than gorillaglass.
your pockets? very likely specially if you have two cellphones, the sapphire cover on the lens camera easy can scratch the gorillaglass on other phone, also some pencils have diamond particles on its graphite, further DIAMONDS PARTICLES ARE VERY COMMON, SINCE SiNTETIC DIAMONDS ARE USE AS ABRASIVE ON MANY DRILLING TOOLS.
So, protect your gorillaglass if you hate scratches, harder is not warranty to be invulnerable.

Screen covered in scratches after one week

Anyone else have an issue with how easily the screen scratches. After a week my screen is completely covered in scratches. I never dropped or had keys in the same pocket as the phone. I thought GG4 should have prevented this. It is hard to use the phone now with all of the scratches. It is very distracting.
Zero scratches on mine, no screen protector (yet, on order) and do carry it in my front pocket.
No scratches on mine yet either. Only things that will scratch this screen are things that are harder, i.e. sand, some metal, diamonds. I know its too late now but I would suggest you turn your pockets inside out when you (or your laundress) does your wash. Sounds like you have some contaminates there.
maybe sand from beach? it can have quartz in it.
There are definitely no contaminates in my pocket. This phone scratches way easier than any other phone I have had. Funny I though the aluminium body is were I would have to worry, but nope, not a mark on the body. The glass on the other hand is badly scratched up.
Shame Nexus Protect doesn't cover these type of issues.
Spontaneous scratches? So you just woke up one morning and your screen was so scratched that you can't use the phone? Do you live in Area 51? I love to see a picture of that taken with your iPhone.
I never said they spontaneously showed up one morning. But the screen isn't as hard as people are claiming. I never had an issue with N5 and scratches, and now this screen is covered in them after only a week.
To be clear the phone is physically still very much usable. These are very superficial scratches only visible when the phone is dim and at specific angles. But it is very annoying when you see them.
The glass is gorilla glass 4.
It's harder than any gorilla glass that came before it.
Dems the facts...
I don't know what scratched your glass, but it isn't the glass's fault...
not a single scratch here
do u live close to the coast? have sand on ur pockets? Sand(silica) can be harder than glass and cause scratches
Mine uncovered for almost a week while I wait for screen protection.
No scratches.
I'm with GSMan201; I've had the 6p for about a month and after a week had multiple small scratches on the top of the screen near the speaker, and now I'm noticing more small scratches appearing on other parts of the screen. As previously mentioned, they aren't major scratches by any means and can only be seen with the screen off and phone held at certain angles. However, it's quite disconcerting as I had both the nexus 4 and nexus 5 and neither seemed to scratch as easily as this phone...... I should also mention scratches occurred when the phone was naked as well as with a wallet style case that covers the screen, and to my knowledge has never been in contact with materials that would have scratched it. On a positive note, it's the only disappointment I've had with the phone so far.
I've looked mine over closely and no scratches on the screen area at all. No case on the device, carried in a belt holder and no screen protector.
I've got a small scratch near my front-facing camera. It's just a matter of time before everyone's glass scratches, so be sure to get screen protectors.
It seems that these threads pop up for every popular phone. You should buy a screen protector based on whether you care if you're screen is scratched, not whether you think it will scratch or not. There's really no reason not to buy one now that glass screen protectors have gotten so cheap, even cheaper than the nicer plastic ones were just a few years ago.

I would bet that the coating on the screen is scratched and not the actual glass. Only takes a grain of sand or dirt in the pocket. These scratches don't distort the pixels so are only visible at certain angles and in direct light. I noticed (after wearing the same pair of jeans for a few days in a row ) that a few showed up on my 6P so I bought a TGSP. Gets a little cloudier in direct light than the naked screen but it's worth it for peace of mind. I've had these on every screen I've ever owned to some degree including iPhone 4s, 5s, 6 and... DINC!
anyone with diamond stub earrings?
Same here, three scratches, after less than a month, including a long one (and disturbing on white content) in the middle. All scratches are horizontal. I guess it's not Gorilla Glass 4... I still prefer this over a broken screen though, but it's not that pleasant

Scratches Already WTF

we just purchased galaxy s7 edge last 2 weeks and there is 2 hairline scratches already i mean our family don't have point nails and my mom don't bring it outside whenver she goes its just on the house
and the home button has 1 scratch already wtf pls help?
i think the scratch is from the inside of the coating hmmm i can see it only when u flash a light or through the sun
You must buy a cover for this device. Moving with it inside your home, not putting in your pocket, placing it around, it's a definitely risky situation: there could be something that scratch back surface or front surface. Fortunately edges allow cover producers included Samsung to place higher corner at the top and bottom, so it stays on the front without touching what's leaned on. Glass scratches! EVER, gorilla will never tell you
I have the same issue.
I got my device on Monday, Tuesday morning i noticed the first big scratch on top of the screen.
Wednesday morning i noticed another one, this time on the bottom.
They are rather huge, and the funny thing is that when i clean the device, the scratches are gone.
When i use the device and the screen is covered with fingerprints, then they reappear. So I must assume that the oleophobic coating is damaged.
And i think I found out where it happened. In the pocket of my jeans on the inside I have stitches . Seems that when i move around, these stitches will rub on the device and destroy the coating.
This is the first phone where this happened. Ever.
Now i ordered a oleophobic spray and hope that I can repair it.
which spray did you order i need as well and from were
Fusso. Amazon. Expensive. I use rain x though. Apply liberally and then wipe liberally with slight damp microfiber cloth. May need to wipe a couple days to get it to desirable level of smoothness and not leaving bad streaks. But I also do this in screen protectors. I never use the glass directly.

Silly. Samsung uses the same Gorilla glass everyone else uses, and they all use similar oleophobic coatings.. It's no more susceptible to scratches than any other phone.

Just the front is gorilla glass, the back is normal glass.
And the back of the htc is metal, not glass. Stupid comment.
The front of every high-end Android phone sold in the US is Gorilla Glass 4. Yes, the same glass.
well thats me rip my s7 edge has back stratches already regret buying this ****
I've had my Note 4 for a year and a half, not a single scratch, hairline or other. Day 3 with my S7edge, I have several fine scratches. I don't know if it's the curved glass, but this screen is definitely not durable.

My previous S6 Edge+ got a hairline scratch on the display almost right away. It was only visible when the screen was clean.
That's the reason I put a protector on my S7 Edge the second I pulled it out of the box.
The SAMOLED displays definitely scratch easily, or at least the coating does.
