You should ask this to rom developer in the rom thread that you are running.

This is due to the fact that the custom OS, that you are running does get the latest Note 7 updates and the last one more or less cripples the device. Making it useless as a phone.

That's cause your on a note 7 port rom. And your device is being recognized as a note 7 because your build.prop is showing it as one.
I got that message to when i was testing nemesis n7 port, the other day. Plus it was being pushed from the Samsung+ app for me. Does your rom have that app installed?
The big question is, even though we have different hardware, if samsung can't decifer the difference and they try to push software to our device. Will it [email protected]*k up our device? Or will our different hardware provide a safegaurd against this?
I don't know their limitations for forcing software onto our device, since it's not really a N7. Maybe someone with some better knowledge or coding skills can chime in on this.

Hmm....on an interesting note. I received this message on my T-Mobile Note 4 while running LamlazyROM V5.0. I went ahead and flashed Norma v11 and Aurora 4.1 in order to replicate this particular message. To my surprise. None came up. Not even the Note 5/Note7 ROM Port showed this anomalous message. Now the billion dollar question is, just as another member commented, "Will this update brick my Note 4?" In all honesty, I've tried on several occasions to try to run the Software Update feature that's been baked into the ROM and with every attempt I would get a Forced Closed/App Crash notification window. So yeah maybe it is possible but unfortunately we'll have to wait and see what happens. Yay. I guess.

It certainly will. The note7 runs off completely different firmware which is included in the ota. Never update through ota on a ported rom.

Any ROMs Available? Even OEM?

Are there any leads to a Samsung Focus flashable ROM yet? Even an OEM ROM? I'd really like to take my Focus back to 7004 and start over if possible.
Unfortunately, I tried to recover using Windows Phone Support Tool and it destroyed my ability to Unlock again. I was trying to revert back to my 7004 backup, but was not sure how to do it.
Now I'm concerned about not being able to get OEM or Chevron updates. That would bite!
I have been looking for a while, no luck
wish I had the knowledge to make a rom to backup 7004 before upgrading
hopefully some nice person will make a rom (preferably Rogers as less bloatware)
Don't expect a ROM for Focus anytime soon. There's simply no one working on it. I have a bricked device that needs a new ROM flash. Been waiting for months now!

I'm hoping there is someone quietly working on it without posting their progress so they are not bombarded with questions and questions about when it will be released.
Please don't take offense if you've already done this, but have you already tried the Windows Phone Support Tool to try to get it going again? From what I saw when I ran it, the tool has the ability to download updates, and MAYBE ROM parts? It's just a thought.
There is no Rom for the Focus, I dont recomend this phone. I got a mine almost 4 month ago and was loaded with another Rom, I wait for a Rom to appear and i lost my hope,, no one is interested on it. So I sell the phone to a very dumb guy. Just resell it.

Would that not make you the dumb one for buying a phone that didn't have a stock rom in the first place? As is stands I think the stock rom is more than smooth enough. Yes there are things lacking and not as many tweakable options as android, but it is still very usable. Just be patient, it will come eventually.
Nobody seems to realize the disasters of Android when they first came out. We are already far ahead with WP7 on a timescale point of view.
Nobody is dumb here, we all just have different expectations from our devices.
Also, along the lines of time frames, WP7 is also ahead of the iPhone when it was released. It too had it's headaches, and correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we get cut/paste faster? And MultiTasking will be here WAY faster than iPhone got it.
Just be patient, and give it a little time to mature. It's coming along quite nicely, especially lately. And the ATT feet dragging on the update? I'd much rather they took a little extra time than see a bunch of people in these threads with bricked phones, or upgrades that didn't work as planned. That can kill an OS. I think the first Feb update showed them they need to be cautious, and that's exactly what they are doing. No, I don't like to wait, I'm as impatient as the next guy, sometimes more, but it will be worth it in the long run.
UPDATE!
I was concerned that forcing the NoDo update and then using the Windows Recovery Tool had made my phone unable to receive the March NoDo update from ATT.
Well, I'm happy to say that I just plugged my phone in this morning, and I'm RIGHT NOW updating to the "Samsung update for Windows Phone".
WOOHOO!!!! I thought I was hosed...
Now, the question will be, Can I Unlock It? I doubt it, but at least I'm getting the actual Update from ATT. I'm hoping there is a firmware update included also. I'll let you know.

I did try to use the Windows Phone Support Tool, and even disected the code. It still needs signed FFUs from Microsoft to flash to the device. You can't just make it flash your custom ROMs.
It would really be awesome is someone was indeed working on a ROM for Focus right now, because then I would be able to bring my phone back to life. But unfortunately, I've been wating since february and it hasn't happened, and there have been people who have been waiting even longer.
I can't even sell the device to anyone because it doesn't even boot up. Its just a paperweight now. It was a bad decision to buy this phone. Should have gone with the Omnia 7 instead.

When you tried the Support tool, did it even see the phone? Will your phone even go into Restore Mode (Power/Camera)?
Just throwing ideas out, hoping to stumble across something that makes it light up again...

I dont understand why you are bashing this phone so badly. I moved from a fuze with win 6.5 plus. I loved the freedom i had with that phone. but, as with any rom and initial release of an op system. there will be bugs. there will be updates. This all takes time. I think this phone is awesome for now. Its very easy to use and is powerful and very fast. The wifi is much faster than what im used to. Just be patient there will be some great improvements to come for this.
The rom posted in the development forum works and is for AT&T Samsung Focus. Read my reply

Why the hell would I do that?? The phone is near perfect as is.
Try this ?

See if it works for you.
Focus Rom
This maybe a true Focus Rom but the person who is saying it works has not or will not say how he used this rom. The upload tool included with the Rom does not work.
If it really does work why not just tell us what you used to flash the phone?
The other ROM 7004 included in the thread is a AT&T Demo ROM so don't use it.

I don't think so. On any of the claims.
He has clearly stated how he did it, the tool as well, but nobody actually verified. Unless someone actually tries those with a Focus, all rest are suppositions. Including mine.
So unless someone actually tries them, I have to say what the original poster (Chinese) said they are:
There are 3 roms posted there now:
-UCKC3
-UCKC3 mod/custom 7004 (no idea what that means)
-AT&T Demo
The last 2 have been posted by me in that order in the Focus UCKC3 rom thread.
does anyone know how to use this? i need an instruction

I am not 100% sure but i believe he stated the tool worked for him. But I had already posted this comment.
I'm not here to say bad things, I just had not sean a coment on how he was able to use the ROM, and was hoping somebody would say how they did it. And yes he did.

Did anyone with multitouch download a new ROM?

Did you find it cleared multi-touch issues or improved it at all? Some people say Cyanogenmod fixed things, but I'd just like more confirmation that it'd make a difference

I've never tried flashing a ROM before, my device is already unlocked/rooted. What do you do exactly to flash Cyanogenmod?
Just installed Cyanogenmod and saw that the problem is not solved. I fear starting to appear that the problem is hardware. Now have to wait for an update from Google.
IIRC, the screen issue is due to a firmware config that cannot be addressed by flashing a new ROM. An updated firmware package will have to be pushed via Google.

From what I have seen, google is aware of all the big bugs and is working on a big update. Looks like screen flicker, multitouch, overheating, corrupted images on startup, gps, wifi performance etc are going to be fixed in a bugfix update. All the nexus devices start their lives like this, one of the few annoying things about being a nexus fanboy, you get to enjoy the bugs before anyone else gets to.

I'm trying to remember the source of my information. But it was stated a few times that the second OTA is what causes the screen issues after powering your device up for the first time.

Yeah I remember this too, something about the kernel supplying not enough voltage to the touchscreen in an attempt to improve battery life. This has to be a kernel bug.
Try flashing a different kernel as that is what bridges hardware and software.
Aren't all kernels based on stock?

I would love to see that happen, but where do you see Google acknowledged and commited to fix all those problems?
If it is just speculation, that doesn't help folks who are within their return period and can get out instead of playing guinea pig.

According to the minions on their google+ "they are working on these issues". I by no means know that google is in fact going to be able to fix all of these issues, nor am I able to guarantee what they do, but I don't see that by repeating what their reps are saying is pure speculation. I think that judging by past examples anyone who has bought a nexus device at launch has either knowingly or unknowingly already agreed to be a guinea pig. In the end I am one of the last people to say that someone shouldn't return a defective piece of hardware, but it seems a lot of the issues people are having are being misdiagnosed as hardware issues when in fact they can (and most likely will) be fixed by an OTA.
I can dare to say that the issue is present in Android 4.3 affecting any device running it even Custom Roms I'm on CyanogenMod 10.2 on my d2spr (S3 Sprint) and the issue is present there too. Also that causes reboots too. I could be wrong too.

No problem with repeating what they are saying, but you seem to have commited them to more than they are saying in their personal comments, not those as official reps.
IMO everyone should get accurate information so they can evaluate for themselves whether it is worth the risk to keep it or just to return the unit.
Personally I think the random reboots and GPS can be addressed in software and the multi-touch is probably 50/50 something that can be worked around in software, but everyone has their own tolerance levels for these kind of issues and "are looking into it or are working on it" and "going to be fixed" are quite different levels of commitment.
I'm sorry but what issues are you having because I exchanged my first n7 because I was having multitouch stuttering and issues with unresponsiveness which made the device unusable. The new device is okay.

Kindle Fire HDX 8.9 ROMS

Hey all,
I am new to this forums in terms of an account, but I browse around a lot. Recently, I had the guts to root my new HDX, and now want a ROM on it. I have done ROMS before, but on phones. For this tablet, I have done root using towel root on 4.2.2(NOT SANGRIA). Problem is, I cannot find any ROMS for this tablet, or any documentation of making one. Can someone point me to a ROM that is AOSP- based. Thanks

The real reason behind the lack of development for this device is the locked bootloader. It would be impossible to do so.

Yup, the reason I sold my HDX for the Tab Pro 8.4. I'm sure the device will have a unlock in the future. (I'm looking at other devices that are unlocked using the same chipset.) I fell in love with my new tablet tho. unlocked + sd card slot + nice screen + gps - crappy battery life won me over to the dark side of sammy sung .
Mine was a gift.

Android 7 is out

Received the update to Android 7.0 NRD90M (from Preview 5) last night.
Wifi or LTE?

I enrolled my Nexus 9 LTE in the Beta program and got DP5 yesterday. Today I got the update to full Android 7.0.
I did the same (beta program) 2 hours ago for my N9 WiFi, received the full Android 7 and installed; then removed from beta with no need to reinstall all (I agreed to receive the OTA for a official Android version but nothing is arrived...).

It has nothing to do with being lazy... Lol..... It has to do with ADB. I know that I can use ADB and side load this from my PC using TWRP. But usually there is a rooted version out hours after Google releases a new OS. I was just checking to see of anyone made one yet. That's all. I see now that there isn't one so I will wait until one is made and shared. Thank you though for replying to my post.

Actually .. if you're waiting for someone to post a zip flashable version that's already rooted, instead of just flashing the files with fastboot, then flashing superSu, I'd call that pretty lazy too. Lol

Going to have to disagree with you on this one. If you are doing any of this stuff to your device, it's best you know how to fix it if it doesn't work out. IMHO, if you are on the Nexus line, you should be adb/fastboot proficient.
I can understand why people don't like responses like ours, but honestly the world has become way too coddled. People want everything NOW. Answer my question, I don't want to search. For the people who have been around for a while, that gets old. I have no qualms helping people out, but people are overly sensitive to everything. I'm not trying to argue either. Wasn't trying to come off negative, was just being playful. If that gets misconstrued as something that would make people not want to visit this site, then I say they seriously need a dose of reality.

I haven't updated yet, so I don't know if the following applies to N, and, since you took the OTA you're probably not interested in a custom kernel, and, I don't even know what kernels are available, but, what the hell, just in case: Chrome was extremely slow for me, too, until I installed ElementalX and set Readahead to 128.

I'm afraid that I don't understand your comment.

Will Essential support custom ROMs, root, etc.

Anyone hear if they are going to be developed friendly our like Samsung locked down?
I'm a Nexus user for years & running the great Android O beta rooted already.

Bump. I wonder the same. Running with my old OnePlus one, all custom software, but have a preorder on a white PH-1....
Given its an unlocked phone, I'd assume the intention is to provide ROOT and encourage development
I really hope so. ??

I guess we're still waiting on the kernel source and that's why?

It's carrier unlocked. I haven't heard anything about bootloader unlocked. Which i'm sure it's not, but probably able to unlock easily with "oem unlock" command (hoping anyway). I expect this phone to be easy to unlock, get root, and have a plethora of development. Although it could take some time to get rolling depending on how many devs buy it.
BTW- this thread should be in Discussion or Q & A.
https://www.xda-developers.com/essential-phone-will-have-an-unlockable-bootloader/
Bootloader will be unlockable
The biggest thing is that no one has the phones yet. To really start development we need the phones to extract the firmware and start messing around with the software. Patience, mods will come.
This runs almost completely stock Android, which means we will be abel to do ROMs just like any Nexus/Pixel phone does assuming Essential didnt lock down the "oem unlock" ability. Though they have said in a not 100% official capacity that it will be bootloader unlockable so we should have full ROM and kernel capability .
The bootloader unlock sounds pretty guaranteed, however the roms for Pixel/Nexus devices are built using the official source and kernels released from Google. I wonder how close to stock Essential will run that either they will release sources hopefully close to Google's schedule (which I sort of doubt considering they are launching with 7.1.1 and not 7.1.2) and how much modification their roms may need to run the wireless addon feature and camera on this device. I am hoping we can install and get full functionality out of the Google camera on this device as the stock one does look, limiting, however the wireless addons hopefully will be an easy addon that can be ported to whatever OS builds come down the line..
But like said above, only time and actual hands on can tell.
This thread really doesn't belong in the development section since it's a question it would belong in the Q&A
Anybody getting worried..lol
I'm just hoping for TWRP and Root soon... I'm not in a big hurry for any custom roms.
I'm just hoping that someone could make a custom kernel with gesture support such as dt2w/s2w and wave to activate ambient display.
If this phone doesn't get rooted within my return window, I'm going to be forced to send it back. I can't get by without titanium

All we need is twrp to get root. Hopefully soon.

Rubin's doing an AMA on Thursday so hopefully we get an answer.
I think we need to wait for the Q&A from Andy tomorrow. That is when we can find out a timeline for when we can get source code to start doing things such as rooting and other modding/ ROM making. Just need to have patience and this phone will take off I think.

This is akin to putting the cart before the horse. Wouldn't it have made more sense to get the phone WHEN root and etc was available for it?
The phone isn't going anywhere..
