Screen-off Gesture will actually drain your battery. - YotaPhone

Hello,
I'm not sure if this is also apply to Yotaphone but I'm Oppo user before, so just let you know that if you select "Swipe gesture" for the both Color display and Always-on display at Lock & Unlock panel, it will drain your battery. You can refer to the Awake bar at Battery panel.
So if you wanna save your battery, just select Power button only at both display.
Just want to help, correct me if I'm wrong!

Double tap to wake will always use slightly more power than not having it enabled, simply due to the fact that the kernel keeps the digitizers powered on all the time, listening for input.
..keep in mind that because we have two touch panels, both utilizing the Cypress technology, this power draw will be doubled, of course, as you can also enable double tap to wake for the back screen
That said, because it is a kernel feature the power draw should be negligible as it will still allow your device to enter deep sleep as usual.
So if you actually use the feature and find it convenient you should keep it enabled because it uses such an insignificant amount of battery
But if you don't use it, then sure, go ahead and disable it. It will save you a tiny bit of battery. The same can be said for other features; if you don't use them, such as bluetooth, just turn them off and save a bit of battery. If you do that you save a bit here and there and eventually it adds up
Our YotaPhone 2 use Cypress touch panels, so the gestures are defined here: nice long link
The gestures are defined as:
Code:
/* Gesture names, keep in sync with gesture_type_t */
static const char *gesture_names[] = {
"FRONT_GESTURE_LOCK_3FINGER",
"FRONT_GESTURE_UNLOCK_SWIPE",
"FRONT_GESTURE_UNLOCK_TAPTAP",
"BACK_GESTURE_LOCK_3FINGER",
"BACK_GESTURE_UNLOCK_SWIPE",
"BACK_GESTURE_UNLOCK_TAPTAP",
"BACK_DEEPSLEEP",
"BACK_GESTURE_UNLOCK_TAPTAP_TOUCHDOWN"
};

Tap Screen only to brighten the display

Is it possible to modify the behavior of the screen tap in such a way:
If
tap when screen is dim then don't do anything but brighten the display
else if
tap when screen is already bright then interact with screen as usual
Basically trying to avoid the device from opening an app when I only want to tap the screen to brighten the display.
that's actually a really good idea!
Thanks, i hope there is a reg mod that can be included in Advanced Config and/or Keiser Tweak tool(s)..........that thing always bothered me, I have to carefully tap on the task bar area since rest of the screen is almost full of things
lol.. that's pretty funny.. i was just thinking about it today.
Good idea, hope someone comes up with something!
What I used to do so far is press UP on the D-pad. Usually does no harm when the device is just standing by.

[Q] HD mini screen calibration

Hello,
I can't seem to find the setting to calibrate my screen. My screen is just off with the touch screen so I need to calibrate it. On other forums I read it should be under: settings menu all system. In that screen there should be a "screen" button. But in my dutch ROM 1.36.404.1 (94358) that button is not there. Can anyone confirm the button should be indeed there? And would there be an other way to start the calibration?
thx
Paul
In settings button, you will see sound & display button, come to the last option in this menu which is of G sensor, calibration, follow instructions and you are done.
option not available

thanks, but I checked it: the last option is G-Sensor, which helps me to calibrate it, the one before is for display: in that one, I can only adjust the brightness settings, when back light is switched off, whether is is controlled automatically etc, but nothing like screen calibration. Would this be ROM dependent?
There is no screen calibration control for current HTC models with capacitive screens. The original calibration control doesn't work as it's designed for stylus input and needs a pin point press to register.
So, HTC leave the Screen control out of the build, which is also the reason Cleartype can't be activated as it's part of the same control.
If you really want to try it, look in the Cleartype topic for the registry change needed to make the Screen control visible, but beware that using screen calibration might make things worse rather than better !
Inaccurate touch centering is one of the built-in downside of capacitive touch screens. There's no such thing as pin-point accuracy in this territory.
We're seeing similar complaints about Android devices, especially the Nexus One. The theory is that the software is supposed to be intelligent enough to register where a 'broad' point of contact is intended to be centred, but sometimes it simply doesn't work as it should.
The only remedy, if a soft reset doesn't sort it is to do a hard reset but reports say the benefits of this may only be short lived.
Use this registry setting
HKLM\ControlPanel\Pen and change from 1 to 0.
infact u dun need this function coz u'll never pass the calibration, i'd juz tried it yesterday(the capititive mon can't make an accurate calibration)
at last i need to soft-reset my device to leave the calibration page= =

Tutorial: 2012-11-01 v1.2.7 Atrix 4G on Motorola Lapdock, Tablet UI running CM10 (JB)

Version 1.2.7
If you're looking for the change log, check out post #3.
The test below were performed using a Motorola Atrix 4G, running epinetr's unofficial CM10 JB (Jelly Bean) found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781970 and the Motorola Lapdock for Atrix 4G, available at Radio Shack for $20 (USD) while supplies last. Epinter's JB invokes HDMI mirroring for all HDMI connections and does not launch Motorola Webtop. Much of this information is probably applicable for other CM10 builds and potentially CM9 and CM7.
This tutorial takes into consideration:
- the keys that are present on the Lapdock
- does not reference keys that are not present (Windows, Apple or Menu key) or do not work (ctrl, caps lock)
- does not reference keys combination or shortcuts that do not work with the lapdock i.e. please don't post links to Android keyboard shortcut threads thinking you are contributing a gold mine of new shortcuts that don't work with the lapdock keyboard
FYI If you connect the Atrix to the lapdock while booting, keep the lapdock lid closed until it has fully booted. The Atrix will not properly recognise the keyboard and mouse. Also, when using the lapdock, the Atrix display remains on and below you can see a pretty slick method to turn the Atrix display off, and maintain video over HDMI. This seems to be a nice battery saver tweak introduced with version 1.2 of this tutorial.
How to dock the Atrix to the lapdock:
Docking the Atrix to the lapdock is slightly tricky as the two connectors make everything quite stiff. With the lapdock screen closed and Atrix booted and the display off, use the left hand as a guide, with your left fingers behind the Atrix (from the finger print scanner) and left thumb over the screen (over the ear piece). Hold the Atrix in your right hand over the dock plate with fingers curled beneath the right most side of the dock connector. Using your right hand, squeeze the Atrix down onto the connectors. This seems to be the easiest way to get the Atrix docked and also ensures that you are not applying pressure to the hinge mechanism.
open lapdock screen = turn on lapdock (only if Atrix is docked)
close lapdock screen = turn off lapdock (even if Atrix is docked, but will still charge Atrix)
While docked:
the Atrix on-screen keyboard will be disabled, while the lapdock screen is on
the Atrix touch screen can still be used at all times
the Atrix will charge at all times
The battery life of the dock is nothing short of amazing. If you use the lapdock for hours and hours, and you reach the point that the lapdock dies, you'll unplugging your Atrix fully charged.
If while using the lapdock the hdmi resolution becomes pixelated close the lid and reopen OR undock and redock the phone. This occurs when an app forces the display to portrait. The HDMI pixel scaling does not recover correctly.
Optimizations:
I suggest enabling the following options:
System Settings > Developer Options > Show touches (You can still use the Atrix screen as a touch screen. This enables you to see where you are touching on the phone display)
System Settings > Hardware Keys > Show action overlay (This provides a clickable action overflow menu in every app [looks like three dots]. That's the same as the Atrix lower left menu button)
You can use the Atrix in phone UI or tablet UI while docked. The advantage of tablet UI is the scaling of objects on the screen is optimized for the larger screen. Basically, you can fit more on the screen. Also, there are dedicated soft buttons for back, home and recent apps which is handy for mouse use, considering that the Atrix is hidden behind the screen.
How to change to tablet UI (and back to phone UI):
Tablet UI (DPI=120)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Phone UI (DPI=240)
Steps:
METHOD 1 (simple)
You can manually edit build.prop, but you quickly realize that a more automated approach is needed. After much testing, I discovered that the majority of DPI changer apps set the permissions on build.prop incorrectly and cause a soft brick. Others simply did not work on the Atrix. There was only one application that worked and it updates the build.prop file to do so. Install 'resolution change / DENSITY' from the Google Play Store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.marutian.dpichanger
1. Launch 'Density Changer'
2. Enter the screen density for the mode that you wish to enter follows:
Tablet UI = 120
Stock/Default Atrix phone UI = 240
3. Press Apply (do not you the 'Apply + Reboot' or '+' as the phone crashes)
4. Reboot (if you are docked remember to disconnect the Atrix undocked until the boot completes)
We are basically editing /system/build.prop
Code:
ro.sf.lcd_density=120
CAUTION: Google Play Store will prompt to accept terms and service upon each change using this method
METHOD 2 (more difficult but reccomended)
The advantage of this method is that the Google Play Store presents apps for a 240 DPI device, regardless of what DPI you are currently set to for the Atrix 4g UI.
Create /data/local.prop add the following entry using a text editor, e.g. using into Root Explorer, then reboot:
Tablet UI
Code:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=120
Phone UI
Code:
qemu.sf.lcd_density=240
How to turn off (and on) the LCD and button back lights:
This method turns the backlights to the LCD and buttons off, while keeping them powered. This is useful as they can still be used, but saving valuable power that would otherwise be lighting the screen and buttons that are blocked by the larger HDMI display.
METHOD 1 (original)
Download RootDim found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.pruss.superdim
Turn Off:
1) Launch Root Dim
2) Select Other lights, button-backlight, off
3) Select Other lights, lcd-backlight-tcmd, off
Turn On:
1) Launch RootDim
2) Select night (OR Reboot)
3) Select lower left then 'auto brightness and exit'.
METHOD 2 (simplified, with automated options)
Download Screen Standby from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934495
There is much development on this app and this tutorial will be updated to reflect configurations based on the most current release (1.93). This app is where all things related to screen and button backlight off / on is headed. There are currently some undesirable results on the Atrix 4G related to button backlight and auto brightness requiring a reboot and dock detection also triggering screen off when docked to the Multimedia dock (not good).
The developer continues to provide outstanding support for all devices and has implemented features specifically to assist Atrix 4G users. Please donate to him as he really deserves our support.
Using Screen Standby without application options set
Turn off:
1) Launch Screen Standby
2) Select Turn screen off
3) Exit Screen Standby
Turn on:
1) From status bar select "Screen Standby is active" to reactive screen
METHOD 3 (optimized)
Using Screen Standby (see Method 2) and the many application options to optimize screen off / on
1) Launch Screen Standby
2) Select Settings
3) Set the following options for optimum app performance with the Atrix 4G
- UNCHECK Use shaking funtion (stops screen turning on with movement)
- UNCHECK Use proximity sensor (stops screen turning on when you use the LCD for touches)
- UNCHECK Use Persistent blank frame (does not apply to the Atrix 4G, so disable)
- UNCHECK Auto HDMI/MHL Detection (there is not HDMI state awareness on the CM10 Kernel)
- CHECK Wake-lock (stop phone from going to sleep)
- CHECK Wifi-Lock (stops wifi standby policy from triggering Wifi sleep)
- CHECK Handle button back light (turns button backlight off and on with screen off and on)
- CHECK Handle Auto-brightness (enables automatic brightness upon screen on)
- CHECK Return home screen (auto return to home screen when
Turn off:
1) Launch Screen Standby
2) Select Turn screen off
Turn on:
1) From status bar select "Screen Standby is active" to reactive screen
METHOD 4 (automated)
Use Method 3 settings with these Optional Settings (currently triggers screen off in multiple docks, which is bad if you use other dock products)
- CHECK Auto Dock Detection
- Dock Detection Settings
* CHECK Desktop dock detection
* CHECK Screen on with dock removal
Turn off:
1) Dock phone
Turn on:
1) Un-dock phone
Lapdock Trackpad / Mouse operation:
double tap top left corner of track pad to turn track pad off and on (VERY useful feature IMO)
move mouse pointer like on any laptop
left or right click = same as touch
hold left click = same as long hold and used for gesture swipes
double tap and hold = same as long hold and used for gesture swipes
tap = left click
click + tackpad swipe = same as swiping on the touch screen
No multi finger gestures, taps or drags appear to be supported
USB pointing devices (mouse) are fully supported, including scroll wheel for scrolling up and down (Logitech M305 tested)
Scroll wheel on mouse will trigger launcher drawer and desktop to swipe left and swipe right with each wheel click.
Lapdock Keyboard operation:
Shortcuts in all situations:
esc = Back
left, right, up, down arrows = move the focus (cursor/selection) one to the left, right, up, down
enter = same as a touch or mouse click on the item with focus (cursor/selection)
alt + right arrow = move to the far right
alt + left arrow = move to the far left
alt + down arrow = move to the bottom
alt + up arrow = move to the top
alt + tab = launch the legacy recent apps screen (last 6 apps), let go of tab to select the app
fn + left arrow (home) = Return to launcher home screen
fn + right arrow (end) = turn Atrix and lapdock displays off but it can sometimes crash
fn + 1 (F1) = action overflow menu (Atrix lower left menu button)
fn + 3 (F1) = Launch phone call log
fn + 4 (F4) = see fn + right arrow above
Shortcuts for Browser:
start typing = Search using your default search provider
(I recommend setting the default home page to blank as is no longer needed)
space = scroll down one page
arrow down = move link focus down on page one link at a time
arrow up = move link focus up on page one link at a time
enter = select link that currently has focus (same as a click or a touch)
shift + arrow = move cursor to tab selection area (you can then let go of the shift key)
arrow left or right = select other tab
press enter = switch to that tab if not the current tab
press enter = close tab if the current tab is selected
arrow to the right until the + (new tab) symbol is selected and press enter = create new tab
Shortcuts for editing text (email, text messages):
left, right, up or down arrow = move cursor one position left, right, up or down
alt + left arrow = go to the beginning of the line
alt + right arrow = go to the end of the line
alt + down arrow = go to the end of the document
alt + up arrow = go to the top of the document
shift + any of the above arrow combinations = select text

A couple things I would add to the wishlist would be to somehow only change the output resolution (if that's even possible) so a reboot is not always required to drop it on the lapdock, and to also have the ability to change the pointer speed for the trackpad since it's kinda slow and a bit difficult to navigate. Thanks for posting this tutorial. Maybe everything will fall into place when ICS is released and some talented devs can make webtop work with JB?

Track pad speed can be adjusted under System Settings, Language & Input, Pointer Speed.
Re changing density on the fly, there are some methods, but the only one I can get to work is as posted. More to follow.

You're right. The audio on the lapdock is not adjustable. If you flip HDMI audio flag off, the audio moves to the phone loud speaker and is then adjustable.

Don't know if this helps, but I had a short stint with epinter. I found the tablet UI to be utterly unsufferable, but still, managed to learn a few things.
Home Button is Keyboard Home. Esc is return, and F1 will act as the menu key. i can't remember which one rotates the screen, but there's one.
Again, hope this helps.
it would be nice, if we dont neeed to restart the device :-/
but its a great idea and a good guide^^

Thank you very much it works very fine for me, with my french keyboard lapdock (AZERTY) !!!
Tested successfully with 'Microsoft Arc mouse 2' wireless mouse (including up and down scrolling)
It would be great if reboot wasn't necessary...

Just makes me want ics even more. After getting the flash apk you can for example use sites like my math lab. If only we had a real time DPI switch and hwa
You get waaaaay better frame rates when the fonts are 'fuzzy'. I'm thinking hwa should fix that

Great find. Seems to be working pretty well. The only thing I found was after I turn the lcd back to system default it doesn't come back on right away, but after I look and unlock the phone it comes back. Switching the lcd on from the app works right away, just not the system default

I'm not surprised to hear that. I noticed the app retains the option so I mentioned it so that we note that the app setting does not revert back to system default when using the other techniques. I would guess that is a value that the app stores internally only so is of no consequence. The lock and unlock toggle you mention is a fail safe that the app developer introduced for people that accidentally set their back light to off, with no way to turn back on.
Btw don't forget that lock and unlock has shown to cause the phone to unexpectedly reboot in my tests, as does fn + arrow right.
Thanks for testing this and for the feedback. Stay tuned... we're not done with this stuff yet!

cool find, thanks.
i noticed 90dpi is actually really nice. but you have to set system fonts to huge to make up for pixelation in various apps like mms.apk
this is actually insanely awesome. can't wait till moto gives us a stable ics with webtop 3 to make it even better. not being able to use netflix and hulu is a little depressing.
I have been using paranoid android 2.00 and it works ok with the lapdock. I use dolphin as my regular browser but have set the standard android browser to 120dpi tablet mode. On docking the phone I long press the power button and turn on expanded desktop mode (which hides the status bar) and fire up the Android browser where I get a decent tablet experience without having to reboot.
Unfortunately, things aren't quite as stable as the stock webtop and the resolution is a big problem which I fear won't be fixed until Motorola give us ICS. The big problem for me with this setup is I get hand strain fling scrolling through Web pages, with webtop I used a firebox add on called scrollbar anywhere, where I could hold the right mouse button and move the cursor to scroll.
My plan is to set up a multi boot between paranoid android and notatchtrix so I can reboot to a good, ubuntuified webtop and back to jelly bean for every day use giving me the best of both worlds.

Wow, this is great feedback and info regarding setting DPI per app and expanded desktop mode features that Paranoid has. For scrolling, mouse wheel is supported, but it seems that Android touch pad does not include two finger scrolling.
It sounds like I need to have a look at Paranoid (or OAKP). Last time I checked, there wasn't the a recent resync with cm, which is a nice part about epinter's rom. I would be interested to know if on Paranoid, there are built in capabilities to turn off the LCD while using hdmi. It's only in the last day that I discovered a method that works, and a more integrated hdmi aware build of JB would be a really nice thing to move onto.

Screen Unlocking without pressing Home Button or Side Button Questions

Figured a way to unlock the screen without pressing the home or side button by going into settings > accessibility > dexterity and interaction > air wake up > on
3 questions
1) Does this functionality drain the battery considerably?
2) Is there an alternate way of waking up the phone without pressing the home and side button? Since this way it must start off on a flat surface?
3) Is there a way to getting to the homescreen without pressing the home button?
You can wake the device with Google Now or S Voice. This shouldnt drain the battery much.
You can add an assistant menu with the home key, back key and recent apps key onscreen, which is you can move around at your convenience.

hi ,
to me the easy way/fastest is to use a S view cover
Also i found in my past devices ( Note 3 and Note 2 with flip cover )
that S view could protect your device and you don't need a screenprotector !!
I set my N4 in Settings /Accessories if i open Sview cover, it unlocks lockscreen ,automatic
( For logical reasons it will only work if, none , swipe to unlock etc ..is enabled , not secure lock etc !)
See screenshot attached
i used air wake but it would sometimes pick up a wakelock and drain battery
To get to home screen i use a gesture app "GMD Gesture control "
Very good app and you can use any gesture (you register in app )
eg To open" Setting page " i just draw a "S" gesture any where on screen

No so sure I agree. I got the S View on release day as a hold over until I found a case I liked that was available. 1) when you have the cover opened, you can still accidentally scratch you screen (2) if you get dirt (even fine dirt) under the cover, you will rub it across your screen creating hairline scratches and swirls. Also, the S View leaves the top, bottom and side exposed a bit more than I was comfortable with.

You can wake the device with Google Now or S Voice. This shouldnt drain the battery much.
You can add an assistant menu with the home key, back key and recent apps key onscreen, which is you can move around at your convenience.

Thanks for the answer.
Don't like pressing the home button - Love the phone though.
I wish the battery doesn't get affected by either with the air wakeup or Google Now. I disabled S Voice (for speed and battery reasons), so most likely the waking up the device wont work.
It doesn't have a big impact on battery at all to leave either of them able to wake your device.

hi ,
i respect your viewpoint ,but if you read my post#3
i stated "that S view could protect your device and you don't need a screenprotector !!"
i used the word " could " i did not state " would/shall etc . protect your device !! "
I also realize that a hundred and one scenario's could happend to your device ?
Further each member " looks /cares " for there devices in different ways ?
I for one have it in S view case and if i go somewhere i place it in my moonbag with my wallet !
i am quite happy with this and if you feel you need screenprotecor ,no problem do it !!
I have used screen protectors years back ( eg htc "tynt and htc desire hd, samsung devices )
but on newer devices i am quite happy the the way i "carry it "
bottom line ,
at least your post shows to me, you also care about your device !!
Good luck

The air wakeup definitely drains a ton of battery x_x;; it kept my phone always awake.. however.. s-voice wakeup seems to be battery friendly! :3

(GUIDE) Tap to wake Any Samsung Device! (no Root)

this is a guide for Samsung mobile phones who'd like the function of LG tap to wake\lock the screen
using only apps and nova launcher prime.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Su2WwTfH-y0
Tap to Wake/Lock screen Guide is for Samsung Amoled device Only\for all any device with amoled screen/
things you need to know before we start -
you'll have to use Nova Launcher Prime (can be purchased trough the free version) as your primary launcher.
set up your nova launcher prime as your default launcher and continue to the next step
The next step we will have to use two applications-
The first is
Screen Off And Lock
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...e/apps/details?id=tecnology.angs.knockr&hl=en...
Once you've installed it open up the application there are things set up and its easy to get confused,
set up the settings like i did one by one.
When you first open the app it will take you trough a small tutorial that will require you to create a simple Knock Code (Were going to remove this one later on)
When you're done you'll be taken to settings under the "Gestures Settings" menu -
all options are marked to do "Nothing" except
Double Tap - set it to Screen On
swipe right in the app to Knocks Settings - Do not bother to remove the code that is there by default - do not remove the code - instead set it to do nothing and swipe left again to the last and most important menu -Settings -
Fill \ Mark V according to the to my settings as the following -
Screen type - Black Screen
Power Management - V
Capacitive Buttons - V
Screen Locked - V
Action Type - Gestures (this is most important) !!!
Everything else is unmarked except the settings that are unchangeable by default.
were Almost done -
Returning to the settings menu in the Nova Launcher
Enter the Gestures & Inputs
scroll down and click on Double Tap
Now we have entered the list the top three sub menus -
NOVA - APPS - SHORTCUTS ׁׁ
Go to APPS and scroll down until you see
"Screen off" (not the "off and Lock Screen Configuration")
After we set off the Screen You can tap the screen two times and the configuration screen opens here - also follow closely after my settings (prove to work best) to preserve battery life and cause all this process to work like in the video
Screen off and Lock Configuration settings - everything should be umarked and all il sound options are Disabled (to my taste) - the only thing I marked was
Use relock workaround 1.
Everything else should not be marked (as recommended for better battery life)
This is it, you can start and enjoy your Samsung with LG's tap to wake
its not perfect but its very convinent
this is my first guide on xda!
edit: right now night clock is not co-operating with this tweak, if you want your night clock to work set the information stream timeout to 30 seconds or more.
while night clock screen is on tap to wake does not work untill it sleeps again or pressing the physical lock button.
works brilliantly - thank you
It's worth noting that these kind of mods will keep your screen digitizer on all the time and probably will cause a battery drain. just FYI

i assume that the black pixels on amoled screen does not trigger battery drain...
anyway on Lg's the digitizer has to work as well to acknowledge the double tap,
i am only a novice would be happy to learn, i really enjoy this function but will surely remove it if it hurts my battery life...
so is there any other solution?

He's talking about the digitizer which must constantly wait for touch input, not the display. He's quite probably correct.
it sleeps again or pressing the physical lock button.
Got me excited untill I read it was only for Nova Launcher.
Having one for Touchwiz......now that's a neat trick.
I miss it.....I still double tap my screen all the time.
Couldn't it be set to use the acceleromator (sp)? It wouldn't turn the digitizer on unless it detected a quick jolt? It would then need to be a 3 tap to wake so it could first wake up and then detect the 2 taps, but that's just a guess...

I'm afraid there isn't. All mods that make the screen work when the phone is in deep sleep will deplete battery life in some way. The information stream is one of them. My battery life improved substantially as soon as I turned this off. Anyway, we have a home button on this device so no need to reach for the power button in awkward places like other devices. Enjoy the home button and forget about these mods. Just my opinion.
i tried this on my s6 without nova and it work fine...the knock on work just fine...now need to monitor battery for a day or two to see if it drains abnormally. thanks @mosesbd for solving my only grudge with samsung phone...
I'm used this for long times ago, but it drain phone's battery. Because it just turns off the screen but not deep-sleep.
Update the links, the links don't work, but search for the apps in the app store and you should be fine
Not sure if the drain would be too much. My old BB Z10 I used for work had a similar function. Swipe up and it would wake and unlock. Battery was great.
The Lumia 1020 I use as my personal line has double tap to wake and battery life is great. Having the feature along with Glance didn't make much of a difference in battery life for me.
May or may not make a big difference on a phone that didn't have this functionality built in.
Thx thats great
Waiting for battery life reply
N i have issue
The back key n multitasking lights up when locking the screen. ..
Why ??

thanks, it should be fine now.
hello, compared to the gesture wake up which one drains more battery?
If screen is set for 15s, battery drainage isn't a huge problem. It's fine in my opinion on the latest firmware.
Do use this n enjoy tap-to-screen off
If you guys are worried about battery drain, then try this app out........360 Hibernation Master. I've had it for months now and it WORKS LIKE A CHARM! It basically shuts down all your apps when screen is off (including data and Wi-Fi), but you can STILL get texts (SMS & MMS), IMs, e-mails, calls, etc. I go to bed with 100% power, and wake up 7 hours later........ it's STILL at 100% (or else 99%)!!!!!!! The problem with Samsung's and other phones' "Power Saver Mode" is that they cause issues with incoming group and/or photo (aka, MMS) text messages, but this one DOESN'T! Costs $1.95 for full version (you upgrade WITHIN the app), but WELL worth it!!
Note: If you game a lot though, you MAY notice a slight decrease in speed. But if you're like me and NOT a gamer, then I think it will work just fine for what we're doing here. I haven't tested it though, so if someone wants and report back here, go ahead! I have the Sony Xperia Z3, but I just pre-ordered the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, so when I get it, I'll post back here to let you know if it works or not. But if you have a Samsung phone now, go for it! And let us know!
