So, are we just going to sit here and wonder why LG is not giving us Google's monthly security update. No update since September 1st (About phone > Software info). I have a feeling we won't see 7.1.1 either. I haven't owned an LG device since the G2 (God bless that phone!)... how are they usually with software updates? Thoughts?

It's really not important. I hope we don't see 7.1, that means we might get updated to 8.0.

I'll have a different phone by then ?
My V10 and wife's stylo both get the updates. We will get them, but usually behind by a month or 2

Will get updates for sure but I wouldn't stress over them. The only way to get your update fix (if that's your thing) is nexus pixel of course.

Concerned with the lack of monthly security updates for unlocked US996, I contacted the LG Product Security Response Team(LG PSRT).
I communicated my concern that LG was ignoring monthly android security updates published by Google.
I questioned why they would expect me to invest in a "Flagship Phone" when they couldn't bother with security updates.
I received no real answers other than "LG apologize for the late update schedule"
They informed me that the next update for the US996 should be "mid June".
So, if you want more than 6 month updates, try another brand.
I like LG phones, but there are other brands more concerned with security.

Do any of you think we're going to get an update anytime soon? Especially with the wake of the CIA hacking leak that just happened. While yes I do understand that the process of exploitation is a pain and all, getting updates is good on another front.

Depending of what comes within the update. Sometimes are just small fixes and not security patches. Sometimes it comes with security patches and not fixes. Sometimes it comes with different things such as fixes, patches, and new features at the same time.... But sometimes, to update is even useless lol. Thats why i wait and read what does it applies. If it is nothing that interest me then i just keep the same version i had instead of upgrading.
Word has it that the US 996 version got an update yesterday, so perhaps there's hope for us (I couldn't find any details as to whether it's 7.1.x, etc.)
I was just thinking it's been a while since the last update.
Yes, my gpad has had at least 3 updates, and my wife's Stylo has had 2 or 3 since the last time my "flagship" v20 has been the stylo is on the March security update and my gpad is on the April update. V20 is Dec 2016?

So now the LG users are doomed? The biggest security risks are the users themselves that downloads apk files of the Play Store grid and don`t read their rights when installing them And yes i`am sure we`ll get 7.1 and after that Android O.
Got the EU G6 delivered today. I really like the design and screen.
To my amazement it was running the April patch. I was assuming that LG had their updates working by now, like Samsung. Even my old Note 4 from 2014 gets regular updates and has the May patches. The G6 being a flagship phone and anything but cheap, this is unacceptable to me. Needless to say it's going back to Amazon tomorrow.

So... this bothered you to the extent that you actually returned the phone? It runs good, has an excellent screen, top-notch camera, IP68 and so on, but screw all that - it's not sporting the latest security patch from Google.

Yes, the missing updates are the core reason and it goes to show that LG still doesn't care, just like Samsung once upon a time. Samsung has now understood and are much better at keeping their units up to date. And as you can see at least some customers do care.
Everyone has different priorities and having the manufacturer keep the software up to date is very high on the list for me.
As to the LG G6 itself - I do like it a lot. But the fact that they have cut more corners adds to the software dilemna.
Here in Europe we get no wireless charging and are stuck with a measly 32GB. The Asian model gets 64GB and is even 100 EUR cheaper (go figure) and would work in terms of the LTE frequencies. But as we know that one isn't unlockable which is the next move by LG I don't agree with.
And lest I forget, the Snapdragon 835 is a huge boost compared to the 821, that's another sub par feature of the G6.
LG and others like them are going to go the way of the Dodo if they don't keep up with the Jones's and release their units with tons of features missing and without proper software support.
Your first post only mentioned the security update being a month behind as your reason for returning it.
Now youre complaining about details that you knew (or should have known) before before deciding to purchase it.
What are these "tons of features missing"?
I'm talking about the 821 vs. the 835 the phone deserves. Then no wireless charging, lack of community support due to the bootloader only being open in certain regions.
I would have been fine with all of it but the software just did it for me.,
It's still a nice phone but not for me.,

Calm down now. Korean version supposedly allready got May security patch so we're gonna get it any time now.
Also, LG doesn't do "small" OS upgrades so no, we're probably not gonna get 7.1.1 or 7.1.2 but we will definitely be the first ones to be getting Android O which is right around the corner. That's how LG rolls.

Feel free to also comment if you've noticed any issues (i.e. problems or "improvements") with such updates?

Appreciate the reply, so I assume you have no regrets choosing it with its recent updates, fully functional Wi-Fi calling..is your updated H918 about as snappy as it was initially?
BTW, do you/anyone expect the H918 will get an official Oreo-Android 8 update?
I think the V20 will get Android 8 but it will be a bit late to the party. If you want Android 8 out of the box you'll likely need a pixel or the V30.
I am finding it so far about the same performance-wise as before. As for wifi calling, I don't make a lot of actual phone calls so I can't speak for hope that's working. But it is showing connected while connected to WiFi.

The V30 specs should be confirmed Thursday but I've read the Pixel 2 devices will more likely be the first with Android 8 out of the box.

That's only said "No SECURITY Update."
G4 devices will get Nougat.. Waitingg..
Security updates?
Where and when?
LoL like we had security updates before. I only got 2 security updates since I bought it. There were never monthly security updates for the G4. I also starting to doubt for the Nougat update.

I had taken 2 major android updates and maybe 5-6 security updates. My device is H815TR. Now I am using v20i Turkey Stock unrooted(it cannot be unlocked).
As far as know if you have flashed right country kdz firmware, you will certainly take security updates
It only says no security updates, but still, if the nought update does not come for a wider variety of the G4 models, i will be very annoyed at LG.
LG really sucks! They provide updates for V10 but not G4. Ridiculous..
I can't even unlock my bootloader ? AndroidOne phones ain't sounding too bad, right about now. (Updates)

Chill, it will come out soon or later and it will be last update for g4 which is pretty old device in smartphone world. That said nougat beta is the best rom i had on my g4

Yes, I also think it will come out.
But the G4 is just such an old device beacuse it took so long for LG to develop the Nougat update xD
Are we seriously to believe that LG is spending any time developing Nougat for the LG G4 (other variants) now that Oreo is out, and they are concentrating on their (new) phones which they are actually trying to sell now ?
I think we've been left in the dust - again.

Are they serious, what are they talking about?! The last security patch I received was 1 year and 3 months ago... And this is on a carrier-free device which should receive the updates first, nice joke LG they probably don't even have clue that there's nothing going on.
Lol, 2018 is here.
Time to start breathing again - (if you were holding your breath, waiting for Nougat in 2017).
Hello,
Don't know if it is still necessary but.. A petition for an upgrade of android 7 to our G4 H815 International version.
Android 7 came out during the 2 years of maintenance of the G4.. so... LG HAS the obligation to roll out this version to every G4 version.

I'm not trying to hate but... I've never experienced that a manufacturer took a petition for a software update/upgrade serious in any way. I've seen more than just a couple of those kind of petitions. It's pointless, it won't change anything even if it get's signed a thousand times.
Just install the "beta" version of Nougat. I've had it for over a month now and haven't noticed any setbacks. Well, other than a little screen burn, but I'm not sure if it's the Nougat or phone that's getting old. No random restarts, no FCs, nothing...Just smooth sailing. LG is not known for its good software support, so I wouldn't hold my breath about official Nougat anymore. I guess that ship has already sailed.

I've LG G4 H818P. There is a high risk of root and unlocking the device due to the warranty on the device. Especially when it comes to a device such as the LG G4 that is largely prone to bootloop.

Well, the bad thing about this beta is that it is vulnerable to the recent exploits in Android as the security patch of this rom is from June 2017. So it is vulnerable to Blueborne bluetooth exploit and KRACK wifi exploit.

By not buying LG again? Okay, so which manufacturer will give you updates for a long period of time?
Maybe if some company would officially support Lineageos on their device.

I haven't said that. I just meant to say that if the next wave of LG "flagships" have poor sales, maybe they will eventually do something about it.
Maybe they improve on their support, or on their quality control, I don't know.
In the short run, they will probably just ignore os.
But in the long run, if the sales figures go down and the number of support calls and/or device recalls go up maybe, just maybe, they will do something about it.
Who knows, maybe I will buy another LG product/phone if the quality and support of their devices will improve. But as it now stands, they are going down fast.
The latest sales figures already posted here are self explanatory.
LG is a bad smartphone manufacturer - majority of their recent phones have been plagued with issues (some serious some not so much)
no point in petitions cause they will ignore them, and even if they don't and actually release Android 7.0 for G4, thats still a year old OS which LG will leave at version 7.0..
just buy a smartphone that is easy to root (oneplus 5?) and go with lineage OS or something similar that gets updated on a daily basis
LG is **** tier and both their hardware and software suck

I agree for the version, but not for root.
I tried with my nexus 4, I scre** it up. totally. And reading articles telling you that you have a lot of manipulations to root etc, no thanks... Except if you have a software that you install normally and boum... rooted.
I will see if the V30 will be released with oreo version. Which i doubt....
