Battery Drain & Crazy Wake Lock. Need help. - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

2-2.5hrs SOT SM-G935FD.
A month old. Problem started 2 weeks ago.
Have uninstalled all bloatware through ez disabler,
WiFi off everywhere in settings,
location history off and Google disabled,
wiped cache,
using greenify for aggressive doze,
Nothing worked so far
Need help
Warlocks such as ssp wake lock, ssp sensorhub, 13960000.decon, power manager service display, and power manager service wake lock are each getting about 4hrs worth of wake lock minimum

I'm guessing you disabled something that another app is relying on, and is now forever cycling on calling on that app repeatedly. First thing I'd do is restore everything back and see what happens.

Well I can't possibly think of anything, but my phone never seems to rest. Even when it's sitting in my pocket it gets hot and drains

Another thing is that even in Safe mode the problem persists.

Safe mode doesn't reenable the stuff you disabled. As I said, enable everything back and restart. See if the problem goes away. That means you disabled something you shouldn't have.
Please tell me you know exactly what each thing you disabled was and you know what dependencies they have. Anything you don't have those answers for, you have no business disabling.

Alright, I'm doing a factory reset tomorrow and I'll get back with the results. Not too optimistic.
Can that be the sole cause? Or can there be some problemd with the firmware or system apps?

Can't say unless we know what exactly you disabled (need a whole list) . We need to rule that one out first because the phones isn't running the same services as what is expected of stock. Then finding out what's causing the wakelock to see which one needs to be reenabled.
Well a factory reset is the fastest way. The incremental reenabling is slower but you won't need to redownload everything.

I have re-enabled everything from EZ disabler but no difference has been made. I'll do the factory reset soon.
I was hoping Nougat would fix it, but I can't wait that long

Phone Always Awake

So, I just went and checked my phone's battery usage and realized it has been awake all day. I'm not sure what's causing this, nor how to fix it. I tried glancing through the forums a bit but I'm pretty busy at the moment and didn't see anything, so I apologize for probably repeating a topic. Oh, I'm running MikG 3.0 with the Less Lionfish 1.4 kernel, Smartass governor and SIO I/O scheduler. Thanks for any help.
sounds like maybe a rogue app. did you restore any apps through Titanium Backup? did you recently download any new apps? How long have you been noticing it? do you have any data syncing in the backround that may be hung up?
app
I think alaman68 is correct. If you reboot your phone, does it happen again? If yes, check your running apps for rogue service. If not, you'll just need to to do trial and error.
Today was the first day I noticed it, and I check my battery usage rather often. I am constantly installing and uninstalling apps, but I don't have anything currently installed that I didn't have before when my phone was normal. I'll reboot my phone and see if it continues.

wipe the cache and delvik when you reboot
I rebooted it without wiping either cache and it has stopped for now. Should I do that anyways? Thanks for the help, by the way.
In terminal emulator, type dumpsys power.
It'll shoe you if any of your system level apps or sensors are causing it

Im having the same problem somehow. I thought it might b android Os that was high but that doesnt come up on battery use...

Check to see if you have FriendStream removed, I know MikG will allow this through the tweaks. If it's not showing up in your list of apps, it'll lead to a sync problem that will literally keep your phone on constantly. The only way to fix is to wipe and flash again, then don't remove it. You can try to push it back in through ADB, but that didn't work on my phone. I reflashed, and now I'm consistently getting 19 hours with no tweaks applied. Just a heads up. Without FriendStream, you may see the sync icon in your top bar all the time.
I don't have the sync icon or anything, just the ones on the pic but still awake?
If i do clean flash then nandroid restore, will the problem fine back?
What else can b keeping it awake
I don't have friendstrm or any of those Facebook related apps
Nothing comes up on battery use, its simply always awake

Will this happen even if you shut autosync off? One of the first things I do when flash a rom is remove friendstream, I never thought of a potential problem though.

OK I d.l the app. But I'm having trouble finding what's keeping it on.
What option should I click on.
The first screen does say my phone has been awake for one extra minute compared to the screen on. But I can't find the option where it says what the app is.

[Q] Apps auto updating without prompting

So as I'm checking my email from my phone a minute ago I notice that all of the sudden apps are auto updating. Assuming from Google Play. I absolutely never allow any auto updating because of crappy updates. And i backup app versions that are reviewed favorably usually. I quickly shut off my phone to stop any more updates. Before I did that I checked my Google Play options first and auto updating was not checked. I did update to the newest version of Google Play manually the other day. Was that my mistake? I'm somewhat afraid of turning the phone back on for fear of it auto-updating again. I have most good versions of apps backed up but not all. I don't know if this is related or not, but my phone was fully charged at 7:30am so I unplugged it. When I checked my phone at noon while not having used it one bit since 7:30, the phone had only 57% battery life left. Which has never happened before. Thanks to anybody that can shed light on this issue.

you probably did not to shut your phone off - just kill the data connection.
but not sure why the auto-updating was occurring.

It looks like when I updated to the new Google Play it may have auto checked the auto update selection. But even when I changed it back it continued to attempt to update. So I restarted the phone again and it still tried updating. So as quickly as I could, I cancelled each update manually. A real pain in the ass. I caught everything that I didn't have backed up. I did kill data and wifi before I figured it out. And then reverted back to old Google Play. Hope this never happens again.

Well, when you give the store permission to auto update, it just checks the box for each app to auto-update. If you install the new store again, disable auto-update in the main settings, then go to each app and uncheck the auto-update box on each app's main page. That should stop it.

[Q] Wonky GPS on AT&T S4?

Hi all. I'm having a bit of GPS weirdness. GPS can get a lock quickly and accurately, however, I have to turn it off/on every time I open an app that uses it. Otherwise, it won't ever find the location. Once I turn it off/on it picks up and stays locked while the app is running. Also, if I switch to another app that uses GPS I have to do the same thing to get a location fix.
So obviously, the GPS function works, but something in the OS is not recognizing it until it's reset. Not the end of the world, but definitely annoying. Is anyone else seeing this?
This is on the AT&T version, by the way.
Thanks!
Check if you have GPS and Mobile Networks turned on for Location.
Else return it.... and get a new one... GPS has been quick and spot on...

I've noticed this once, where something in the background was starting a GPS lock, but seemed to cancel, and retry before it ever succeeded. Turning the GPS and location services off, then back on worked for me. Haven't had an issue since.
If you haven't tried resetting to factory default, I suggest doing so.

Well, I was hoping for a bit more granular approach than a full reset. I'll wait until the new OTA is applied before doing anything drastic.

Less drastic than returning it. I suppose it depends on how attached you are to your current setup - but I would say if you're experiencing that issue repeatedly, the factory reset is exactly what you'd need. I doubt the OTA will address it since it appears to be an isolated problem.

So, yeah. Today's OTA update did indeed fix this. i would press my own Thanks button, but that would be sinning!

Do you have yahoo weather installed ?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I do not have yahoo weather installed. Another bit of info I forgot in last post:
I do sometimes, in a quick glance, see the gps icon running out of the blue. The notification of "acquiring gps signal bla bla" is present as well.. only to disappear within seconds. So it seems as if a specific service or application is using the gps in a faulty manner, blocking other services/applications from using it. May be why resetting the gps allows the application your trying to use access it. (my only fix)
If someone could read a logcat of what's going on I could post one up
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
I've actually been combing through the logcat output and see a line reappearing often referring to "no secgps file" I do remember on my previous devices messing around with that file and others for GPS configurations. Does anyone know if this file is supposed to be included in the stock rom?

[Q] Location Service Auto Off Itself, Help!

Hello whoever may lend a helping hand,
I've got a problem with my Note 4 Location services. Whenever i set it to on mode, it will somehow automatically switch off by itself over time. I've tried many ways to stop this from happening but to no avail. I dont see any programs or app that is turning my location off for me.
The reason i would prefer it to be switched on is because im using google "keep" and alerts are normally based on location. If my location keeps turning off, google is not able to notify me of reminders when im at certain locations.
Does anyone have similar problems?

When you exit Ultra Power Saving mode, Location Services is not switched back on. It's a glitch that will probably be sorted out in a future update.

Hey, i have the exact same issue. Without using power savings mode or any tasker apps, my location services randomly turns off. It is extremely annoying
Have you found a fix yet?
This is related with the other device having the same user but different settings
Sent from my SM-N910C using XDA Free mobile app
Make sure it's set on "High accuracy" mode. I know you're most likely have it on "High accuracy" mode, but just make sure. Maybe a stupid suggestion but oh well.
Same problem
Location services keep turning off.
Phone goes to no service every day or two ( tried turning off lte) has to reboot to fix.
Mobile data and WiFi seems to also turn on and off randomly.
Reception is poor vs my s3 and s5.
All in all this phone is shaping up to be disappointing.
Samsung has a no swap out policy in SA so they are prepared for me to take it in to get fixed. Last time that happened it took 3 weeks to get my phone back.
I'm convinced it's the carriers branded software pre loaded that causes trouble. Vodacom (Vodafone)
The location services bug only seems to have started a few weeks ago after an update.
I thought it was related to the places feature and I've tried to disable it but can't find how to do it.
Just got my Note 4 a few weeks ago and I'm seeing this happen too. Bump to see if anyone has any solutions!
I'm on Rogers in Canada, running stock, unrooted, baseband version N910W8VLU1ANJ3, build number KTU84P. I do not use Power Saving mode (some have said that location services don't turn back on after exiting Ultra Power Saving). Seems to happen regardless of battery life (just turned off on the way to work in the morning with full battery).
I really only noticed because I tried using a location based profile in Tasker using AutoLocation, and it kept notifying me that location services were turned off. It also affects a weather/clock widget. No other Tasker profiles that would affect it.
Anybody have any ideas why this is happening? Any ideas for fixes?
UPDATE: So yesterday afternoon I booted into recovery and did a wipe data/factory reset. Everything seems to be holding so far in terms of Location Services staying on. Might have just been a glitch or something. I'll report back if they turn off again.

i have the same problem my location services turns itself off even though my power saving mode is disabled. Time and time again i have to turn back on the location services . Please help .
I have a S5 and everytime I leave the house my location services turns off by itself. I can't explain it cause I literally use my phone for calling/texting and games. I don't mess with apps, setting, configurations, or power saving mode. But the really weird thing is that if it doesn't shut itself off completely it says I'm in a different location all together. Help please!

WiFi Automatically Turning On

I just took the latest T-Mobile update, and no matter what I do, the WiFi turns itself back on. I've tried powering it off and restarting phone, checked advanced for smart switch (or something), powering off wifi, clearing cache, checked program permissions. Everything I can think of. I'm losing my mind. Anyone with a similar issue?

By any chance did you install Samsungs new user interface Good Lock? It could be that is what's turning it back on based on location.
It was the updated Google Now ( or just the search app) it asked for permission after the fact, I denied it and now it hasn't turned itself on... Will Update.

Did anyone figure this out, massively annoying.
It happened to me. It may seem like the tmobike update but its not. How I fixed it is by uninstalling the last 3 or so apps that you installed, rebooting your phone, and it quit for me then I reinstalled one by one, watching behavior very closely. Also check advanced wifi settings to see if auto hotspot connect, always scan, etc is enabled.

It started doing it for me after I paired my new gear s2 to it... Anyone else in the same boat? Just trying to seee what our common denominator is.
Again, for those that are having these issues... do you have your t-mobile app installed?
My may seem like a silly question but on my girlfriends S6 there was an option called network manager or wifi manager (or something to that effect.)
As soon as she disabled that she didn't have that problem anymore. Worth a look.
