VZW LG V20 vs Sprint LG V20 - LG V20 Questions & Answers

So I just got the V20 with Sprint last week, and I love the phone but my service is horrible! I came from AT&T because it was just too expensive and I looked around and figured it'd be between Sprint or Verizon so I gave Sprint a shot, and yeah I can't handle their slow speeds while at home.. So while on Verizon's site I noticed they have the Google Pixel XL and before I get into messing with any other devices (came to LG from Samsung after about 7 years), I figured I'd ask around to see if there are any benefits to switching from Sprint to Verizon in terms of phone modding.. I used to love rooting, flashing roms, etc but I know those things are very limited now.. But again, just seeing if there are any differences in variants between VZW and Sprint if I decide to stick with the V20..
Thanks..!

My buddy just returned his vzn pixel xl 2 days ago for the v20. He absolutely hated the pixel. Liking his v20 so far. We have both been samsung note users since the note 3.

Thank you for the insight.. I was really tinkering with the XL in the store yesterday and I honestly liked the v20 way better.. One main thing that may seem petty, but to me was huge, is that the fingerprint sensor on the Pixel is only that, a sensor, not an actual power button.. After using the V20 for a week I got used to turning the phone on when touching that button..
But I did make the switch from Sprint to Verizon yesterday.. I took home the Verizon V20 and it was literally night and day as far as service goes in my home..
I ran a few benchmark and speed tests, check out the results lol.. Not hard to guess which one is which..

[planning to or] Coming from Note7

i went to exhange my N7 today. If only they had the v20 in already. what a missed opportunity over the next 2 weeks...
I went back (2nd time exchanging it) to s7 edge. I hope the v20 is out in less than 2 weeks.

I've read the 28th of October is launch for US carriers, im holding onto the explosively disappointing N7 untill v20 is available
Pre-orders start the 17th. At least T-mobile they do. I didn't want to return my Note 7, however I travel a lot and don't want a bunch of crap from airlines or TSA about having a note 7 on me. So I'm considering getting the V20 or just stick with my Note 5 another year. 5.7 inches is as small as I wanna go.

I had the Note 7 and every Note since the 3. I returned my Note 7 during the 1st recall to wait for the V20.
i had a note 7. have been waiting for the V20 since they did the initial recall on the notes 7. just using my note 4 for now until i can finally get theV20
I'm looking to get the v20 as well. Preordering is next week.. But Samsung doesn't have a refund procees here yet... So I'm still waiting.
I love my note 7 but if they are not going to support it i suppose I will have to get another phone. the v20 is about the only phone that interest me. not much out there as far as phones for AT&T and not going iPhone.

Have my replacement note 7, going to do my exchange on the 28th when the V20 is available at ATT

Do you guys know of any devs who are jumping ship from N7 to V20?
Possibly looking to V20 from Note7 but due to gap I've ordered a OnePlus 3 and since found out thats not available fro 3 weeks either arrrgghh
Went to local AT&T store & pre-ordered the v20, to be shipped to me. When I get it, I bring in the N7 to the store.
I have to pre-pay the tax on the v20, and when I turn in the N7 they refund the tax (and any payments I've made on my Next plan).
BTW, it took them an hour to figure out how to do it - even after I kept telling them what to do after going through it already with the original Note 7.
(If I don't return the Note 7, then I will just keep getting charged for both phone....)
OH - they did have a v20 on the floor to play with as well. Oddly, my store didn't have a v10. If they did, I would likely have gotten it as a loaner, and returned it for the v20 - but would have cost a $35 restocking fee. Guess I can risk a fireball for 2 weeks.
--
Edit: For me, the v20 is mostly a wash against the N7. Similar cpu, memory, size, camera, usb-c. Differences are losing waterproof, pen & wireless charging (which I didn't use), gaining removable battery & second screen. Never had a LG phone before, so hope quality is good.
I'm switching from the Note7 too. Glad to see I'm not the only one. Just waiting for the phone to come out so I can get it from Verizon and trade in my Note. Hate getting rid of this phone but the V20 looks like a great phone. Since it already has 7.0 I wonder how long it'll take them to get 7.1 on it.

Just refunded my Note 7 with T-Mobile. I plan on pre-ordering the V20 first thing Monday morning as soon as it becomes available. I was sorely tempted by the Axon 7, but with two toddlers I need a good camera on my phone and the V20 is the only large phone with a good camera other than the Note 7. I'm looking forward to it since I loved the V10.
Done with Samsung and the note 7 for now. I just can't decide between the V20 or the Axon 7 and then there's the Oneplus 3
i exchange mine and wifes N7's today. she opted for the S7 edge. I went back to my note 4 and pre-ordered a V20. they said it will ship between the 24th and 27th.
we're due 2 x $25 from the first recall and $125 from the second now. plus bill credits for the note 7 payments....and i ended up with 2 x 256gb cards that work in each of the new phones so that's a plus.
the s7edge will use wireless charging pads so i'm keeping 2 of the 4 i bought and the V20 works with the type C usb cables so i can use all of those.
overall it works out that i only need to ebay 2 wireless chargers.
Waiting on the v20 to come out too. I can't go smaller than 5.7 , so no pixel for me
Damn, this is too SAD moving away from the Note Series!
I had the LG G3 and G4, loved then then went back to Notes. Loved the Note 7 but have a feeling there will be no updates to the phone. I doubt any devs will pitch in either. Looking at V20, only phone ill go to. Holding it for 2 more weeks.

Tried doing the same thing as you did, but they wouldn't let me do it unless I left the store without my Note7. In other words, I had to give them my Note7 right then and there.
I don't have any extra phone lying around, and I NEED a phone for work, personal use, and emergencies (accident, 911, etc). I have no land lines either.
So we ended up cancelling the preorder and now I have to wait until the 28th.

Hi Everybody!!!

I just changed from Sprint to AT&T so I had to give up my Note 4 and the V20 seemed to be the best AT&T had to offer. I now have the H910 variant. I have had Samsung phones for a long long time and was pretty familiar with Odin and whatever I needed to do with them. I have been reading for a few days here and see LG is a little different than Sammy with the particulars. Hopefully this will be a decent phone.
Anyways, I just wanted to chime in to say HI and introduce myself.
Samsung refugee here as well. So far, the V20 has been nice. The best thing for us -- so far -- is we're getting an entire day out of the battery!
(My wife and I got one at the same time.)

LOL!!!
I know what you mean. I can't believe the battery life on this thing so far but I've only had it less than a week now.
I traded 3 Samsung phone off for 3 V20's. So far my only gripe is that the colors are a little duller (almost washed out sometimes) than what I am used to with the other phones, but so far everything else is making up for that & I may be able to adjust the display some I just haven't had time to look at it yet.
Over all I like it so far.

LG V20 now in 2017 and is it bootlooping

I'm in Hong Kong over the summer and I can get a V20 for about 250 pounds and g6 for about 300. Do you think it's worth the extra 50 pounds for the g6. And are there bootlooping issues as it was added to the lawsuit.

I suggest you go for LG G6. V20 is good but I have seen instances where it is mentioned in boot-loop discussions. Plus, LG G6 has a slightly better processor, better build, better form factor and water proof as well.
Just because the V20 is listed in a lawsuit proves nothing...
Before I bought my phone I did some quick research and I have not found anyone with a V20 having a real bootloop concern.
There are threads like this one (https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/help/lg-v20-boot-loop-fix-t3629308) that are incorrectly titled (as in this thread) which lead people to that conclusion but by reading the posts they would see that this concern does not exist.
The V20 and G6 are totally different phones. It really boils down to what your wants/needs are.
I picked up both phones a few days ago, the v20 and the g6. My other phone is an OnePlus 3. I decided to buy them based off a couple reasons honestly, T-Mobile offered me $100 off each phone for being with them 10+ years then with the lg promotion currently going on for free mini projector and headset I figured why not. I had wanted the v20 since release and tho it's not the fastest phone out, I knew from using my OnePlus that it will do what I want.
To compare the two, keeping in mind these are T-Mobile variants, the v20 has root where the g6 does not. I knew I wanted root where my wife could care less. Bigger screen overall is another plus for me where she prefers smaller phones. Cameras, to my untrained eye are not much different. The benefit of the g6 would be water resistant and wireless charging, I wish the v20 had ip certification but wireless charging does little for me. As for the boot looping, T-Mobile stands by the manufacturer warranty for a year, any problems like that and they replace it so it's not really a concern to me.
I like both phones, but I also liked my g5 that I previously had given to the wife so obviously it's all a matter of personal preference.

How you got the $100 off offered from T-Mobile? I've been with them for 10+ years too.
Also I brought couple used T-Mobile V20 which is H918 but both seems start having the boot looping issues that would restart itself 5-6 times a day with normal use, some times even just listening songs with bluetooth at work would restart 2 times in 4 hours... I can't get replacement from T-Mobile since I didn't buy from their store and don't have receipt for LG to warranty although it still made within a year

I just called them, asked if that was their best price, rep put me in touch with customer loyalty and they offered me that deal.
I would still call T-Mobile and ask about exchanging the phone, if it's paid off and not tied to someone else's account they will probably do it for you, they have in the past for me when I had purchased a phone from swappa. It's still a T-Mobile variant under the year threshold.. All you can do is explain your situation and ask. If first rep says no, don't be afraid to try again. I've found that often, reps handle things differently from one to another.

Would You change your S8+ for an LG G6?

Well I want to know how satisfy are you with this phone.
Why would you change it and why not?:good:
I won't. I have really bad experiences with LG electronics and my Samsung phone (and previous ones from Sony) work perfectly and do exactly what I want. I'm really satisfied with my purchase and I wouldn't see any reason to switch between these phones. I wouldn't gain anything but wasting a bunch of money.

Nope. Years ago I bought the LG G2, the first one with the knock knock turn on and off screen. That G2 was a lame duck, first the knock knock stopped working and then the phone died. Many people like the phone but my particular experience was a bad one. Then I bought the Google Nexus 5, LG build the phone, I really like my first Nexus phone, the 5. Right now I got a Google Pixel XL and the Galaxy S8+, my favorite is the S8+. I'm not interested anymore in Google Pixel's phones. Next year Galaxy S9+ is a go.

I don't have to have LG or Samsung specifically, but if G6 does everything that I need + is much cheaper than S8, I could change it. I paid for my S8 less than LG charges for G6, so it was an easy decision + S8 seems narrower for one-handed use.
I had galaxy S4 (i9505) from the first few weeks of its release until 40 days ago and I hadn't single problem with it. Now I got Galaxy S8 and I hope it will be as good as S4. Although LG G6 still is a very good phone but I prefer sumsung for its design and quality.
Do not, in any circumstances, buy an LG phone. Just Google LG G4 bootloop fiasco and all of their other build failures. If you want a phone that will last, buy a Samsung
No thanks, I said goodbye to Lg after my nexus 5x bootloop issue...They just gave me another device willing to die anyways
Samsung is much more serious about anything as a brand besides the superiority of the S8 over the LG G6

Lg g6 is slower than s8. S8 has newer processor.
The s8 design and edge screen is more beautiful.
Samsung is a better brand imo.
Never I don't see any reason while I'm enjoying my s8 plus no phone can come closer to my experience till today
Maybe. The curve screen and it's easy of breaking might make me. The G6 need to be under 500 though, it doesn't really match up with the s8, but it still seems to have decent specs.
no, since the bootloader's still locked >: (
The single reason I used to buy LG was the unlockable bootloader.
S8, though /shrug

I came from the G2. After 4 years, it has better battery life than my s8 and is sometimes a lot smoother (its running 7.1.2). I regret buying the s8.

Well, I don't regret buying the LG G2 at my former mobile service company AT&T. When it came out lots of people like it, me too. The knock knock turn on and off the screen was a big hit at the time. My G2 was a lemon, bad luck. In all this years I bought the flagships(at the time) of HTC, Samsung and why not LG, cause the G2 was the flagship of LG at the time. If your G2(today) runs and is more smooth than your Galaxy S8 good for you. Years ago I owned a Google Nexus 5 and I own a Google Pixel XL since October 4, 2016(the day it comes out). Smooth yes, no bloatware from the builder (the Nexus 5 was made by LG and the Pixel XL is made by HTC) and direct upgrades of the Android Platform. I can't tell if my Pixel XL is more smooth than my Galaxy S8 Plus, but I can tell that my favorite is S8+(by the way my S8+ is a faster runner and smooth phone). Never rooted, never flashed a rom or platform upgrade so my opinion regarding yours LG G2 running Nougat is not a solid one.

Would you still buy a PH-1? How does it compare to the Oneplus 5(T)?

Hi everyone,
As I write this the Oneplus 5T launch event is a day away, however the price of the PH-1 (at Telus in Canada) has now dropped to less than the Oneplus.
To those of you who have an Essential Phone .... would you still buy it again, knowing what you do now? Have software updates fixed the negative issues that were reported in initial reviews, especially wrt camera speed? If you were choosing now between the Essential Phone and the Oneplus 5T, which way would you go?
Any advice is appreciated.
I would especially buy it now. With essential seemingly coming around with their promise to be developer friendly, I'm hoping we see more and more developers hopping on board. Seems to me that this thing is just as open as a Pixel.
I would buy one again at the lower price.
I returned mine and got a LG G6.
If I hadn't bought the LG, I'd be buying the PH-1 at the lower price. It is now a bargain.
Seeing as i am beholden to a CDMA carrier (and not leaving anytime soon), and the PH-1 works just fine with my carrier of choice, the OnePlus doesn't register on my radar. Plus i lucked out and got my PH-1 for less than half..
If OnePlus came over to the dark side...
Just gave my One plus 5 away today after going from TMobile to Sprint. One plus feels cheap compared. Also I am a bit bitter the 5t is being released 5 months later.
I had the 6gb variant, no discernable difference, maybe it's me but the blur mode vs portrait mode were similar also. Also feels like OnePlus was in a school yard discussion with the top 3 and decided not to be an flagship killer this year.
With the latest fixes for ph-1, beta Oreo, and reddit feedback I'd say it's a home run at current price point.. plus f&f gets it for 300$.. hard to pass up

I'm thinking about this question as well. Oneplus 5T looks like Oppo R11 which I don't like. But essentail is not offical sell in China, which means I can't get warranty if I buy from Amazon US or somewhere.:crying:

Yep.
I wish I could have gottem a PH-1 for the $450 when I bought it.
The original price was just oo high for the initial issues. At $450 it's the bargain of the year.
I've been with Verizon since before they were Verizon around here.
I started out with GTE MobilNet. No, old jokes please.
Anyway, I'm not interested in any phone that's not fully compatible with Verizon and fully unlocked.
No.
I like OnePlus phones, bought the One back in 2014, amazing phone, my brother was using it this year until he broke it a few months ago. But, to be honest, I really dont like what OnePlus is doing as a company for the las few years, like put out "flagships" every 6 months, giving up support for older devices, waaaaay more marketing that is a factor to the increased price of their phones. I am sure the 5T is a great device, and it is what the 5 should have been in the begining, but coming out just a few months after the 5 is kick in the nuts to their loyal and enthusiast clients, and thats the second time they do it.
I really hated the chassis of my OnePlus 5. The edges are very rounded so it's a lot more slippery than the essential. I also didn't like how wide the phone was, making it uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time. Essential feels like it's the perfect size, and for ergonomics alone, I wouldn't go back to OnePlus (although their software is WAY better than essential's at the moment, I'm banking on essential improving).

I've handled the phone and is a solid device, plus I trust Andy Rubin!
I say go for it and buy one!
Okay, so I've got a bit of a twist for you guys: first off, does the 5/5t not work on Sprint? I thought it was compatible... Second, I'm looking to upgrade my iPhone 6s, and am torn between the OnePlus 5t, Essential phone, and iPhone 8. I've heard bad things about the software on the essential phone. How bad is performance and camera really? I left Android because I couldn't stand how unusable my s7 became and don't want to go back to that
