Possible to root Android 6 on a CID 11 device? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
Since we could root the Lollipop on CID 11 (I suppose taking advance of a well know exploit) is possible to root Android 6 as well? Maybe after all these months an exploit appeared..
I guess it's the only way since we can't upload anything without a signature..
Other questions:
There is any signed Android 7.1 ROM available?
I used the safestrap method to upgrade from rooted Lollipop to unrooted MM, but I think it eats about 9GB of flash, is it possible for my phone to recover all the unused Safestrap slots?
Thank you

7.1 is aosp for S5 Verizon and and as such can't be loaded on a locked bootloader and no there is no way to root mm currently on this device

thanks for reply. Since LL was rooted, probably using an exploit on LL, maybe another exploit has been funded also for MM.
What about recover the safestrap space?

There is a way to have safestrap on mm but not root

How can delete the wasted space of safestrap and recover it? It is using about 9GB!! and I installed only one rom with safestrap, there are probably other slots that I'm not using, how to delete them? Thank you

Pretty sure, as of now, we can still only use the stock slot.
By all means, correct me if I'm wrong on this!?

Can I install it on unroot MM? How can I delete the unused slots? Can kindly someone explain me the instructions?
I've lost 9GB of internal memory! Can someone help me to recover them?
Thank you!

[Q] Steps to get my phone ready for Android 4.4

Hello!
I recently had Xposed Framework installed. I uninstalled it to get my phone ready for the Android 4.4 OTA.
I have a STOCK ROOTED Nexus 4 with CWM Recovery (Bootloader: Unlocked).
I wanted to download the Android 4.4 OTA once it is released.
Based on what I understand, there are two ways (that I prefer) of receiving this:
1> Unroot the phone and put stock recovery. I had a question with this method:
a: Would I need to lock the bootloader to install the OTA? If yes, on locking would I loose my data?
2> Flashing a binary that would be released on the Google website. I also had a few questions related to this:
a: Would I loose my data if I did so?
b: Do I need to make any changes to my Stock Rooted Nexus 4 with CWM Recovery to follow this method?
Which method would you follow? Or do you have a better method? Please help me out
Thank You!
Just go to the ota help desk here on xda and once the ota is being released they will put it in a zip file and you will be able to install it in recovery without losing any data, so just like a normal ota.

That's great. But what if I want to install the OTA? Wouldn't installing something from the OTA Helpdesk void the warranty?

No................................................................. this isn't a Samsung phone.
Can anyone confirm you need to unroot or not to receive OTA? (I have never bothered with it since flashing roms). Just make sure you're running unrooted stock rom that is odexed, stock kernel and stock recovery, as far as I know.
If you flash the factory firmware from Google it will wipe out everything, including your /sdcard/ partition. You could wait for a 'stock rom' that is flashable by custom recovery, these don't delete your /sdcard while flashing, these (unrooted odexed) roms should still be able to receive OTA (correct me if I'm wrong).
Yes u will have to unroot to receive OTA.

I see so many of these threads and then I see the I bricked my phone going back to stock threads next. Please if you enjoy root and the features it brings you just relax and wait out the update. Your favorite developer will then create a nice new KitKat version with your updates and customizations. Of course do what you like but to unroot and get rid of your custom rom to have stock and then re root to try and get the same effect again just sounds crazy too me.
Patience is a virtue
Edit: but your question is what route to take just so you know there are back to stock threads which would be your best bet to follow if you honestly feel like doing all that to undo it later....

well i usually download my apks on my pc then put it to my sdcard......but before that i also installed busybox, then i installed safestrap and i believe i had to do i twice because the first time i didn't get the safestrap boot menu. then everything is almost the same like the older safestrap except now i can have 16gb of memory reserved for one rom :victory:
You have to have root first correct? I have not found a method for root yet. Any ideas or pointers? Every android device I have, except this one, it's rooted

Ya then you might be screwed, unless someone finds a way around it so you and many other people can root their phones.......if i were you i would try to mess around with the rooting options that i linked previously or check this out:
http://www.ibtimes.com/android-442-...-3-lte-sm-n9005-new-xxuenb7-firmware-tutorial
Also try doing some research on how to root a note 3 4.4.2
Hope that helps
Thanks

There are a few KK Roms that developers are posting in the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Android Development Forum. I'm currently on Bajasur's BajaRom Build 14 and it's running very smooth.

Root with I337UCUGOK2 bootloader

I can't seem to find a straight answer to my question since most of the info for the S4 is 2 or 3 years old now.
So I have a completely stock ATT i337 running Android 5.0.1 with the I337UCUGOK2 bootloader. My soft keys aren't working, so I would like to install a different ROM to try to fix. I understand I need to install CWM or TWRP first. So my question is this... Is my bootloader locked and I need to root my phone first before I can install either recovery? If so, what method do I need to follow for my version of Android?
I understand that with time there are improvements. Some stuff I've read makes it sound like there is a lot of automation in installing custom recoveries, and maybe I don't need to root first because they root for me.
Thanks.

Out of scene for a bit... need rom switching advice.

So I've normally been good at figuring stuff out on my own when flashing custom roms, rooting, etc but it's been awhile since I've messed with it and it seems things keep getting tougher (or maybe it's just me). Anyway here is the story... I am currently running JasmineROM (Android 5.0 Lollipop) on my Verizon Note 3 (SM-N900V), but I was considering upgrading to a version 6 Marshmellow rom like Temasek. One problem is that for some reason, I never installed a custom recovery so I am not sure how to proceed. I guess my questions are:
1. Do I need to downgrade to Kit-Kat somehow to install TWRP, and if so, what is a good guide?
2. What is the best, fastest, bloatware-free Marshmellow custom rom out there for SM-N900V right now?
3. I looked at the installation instructions for TWRP and it says to only use a specific version depending on whether your bootloader is the upgraded kit-kat version or not. How do I know this? Would it be updated since I'm using a 5.0 rom?
Sorry for the noobish questions and thanks in advance for any help!
Easy answers:
1 you can not back rev to KitKat
2 you can not install any custom recovery until you unlock the bootloader
3 you can not install any version of Marshmallow until you have installed a custom recovery because there is no official Marshmallow for the Verizon Note 3
Look in this forum for how to unlock the bootloader.

a. Unlock bootloader: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...l/official-note-3-verizon-bootloader-t3359370
b. Install TWRP ( I used 3.0.2-0 ) the easy way: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jmz.soft.twrpmanager
c. Install CM13 ( This is the only MM ROM I could get to work on the Verizon network) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...opment/rom-temaseks-unofficial-build-t3364382
Thanks for the help! I managed to figure it out myself after realizing I needed to unlock the bootloader. Thanks for taking the time to post!

S5 SafeStrap ROM Help...Can I use CM13?

Hi. Using a CID11 device w/ KINGROOT/SAFESTRAP
I know the bootloader is locked and all, but will I still be able to use CyanogenMod 13 ?
http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=kltevzw
I know this is a noob question as the S5 is pretty locked down now 'geocold' is helping the enemy, but is it still at all possible to use CM13 with this safe strap option on a CID11 device.
also is there any other ROMs I could use that are similar with any kind of custom kernel that helps preserve battery life like in the past or is that a no now since the bootloader is locked.
lastly will I loose root if I can do any of the above.
....
very new to the S5 please bare with me lol

You shouldn't lose any data but a backup is always wise
According to the thread you have to be on rooted PB1 firmware and use safestrap
The guide is specific so follow his guide exactly
I would do a back up in Samsung Smart Switch or Samsung kies 3 before you use or use safestrap backup whatever you prefer

Oh ok, yeah since I'm on OK3 will I need to do the whole KingRoot method again? or if I flash to PB1 from ODIN will I still keep root/safestrap/bb not sure how this all works just started using the S5 today.
Also once that is all done, and I'm on a rooted PB1 ... I'll be able to flash threw safestrap to a MM 6.0.1 ROM ? but when I do this wont I loose root? and I thought root not able to be obtained on MM 6.0.1 with CID11 devices? this is where it gets to be confusing for me, sorry for all the questions

Yes I can not use android with out root lol, but thanks for showing me all this anyways its progress I guess, not sure if this handset was worth the money now knowing all this, but I'll stick with it.
I see no point in even bothering to run CM13 or any custom rom really with out the use of root. ehhhh anyway. Backing up my apk/data using a snazzy lil app called MyBackup Pro. for the migration.
Thanks for the help. Looks like I'll be staying on the 5.0 OK3 rom then since at least I have it rooted, and some kind of recovery even tho the whole safestrap touchwiz thing is not pleasing its better than nothing.
