Anybody working on a PC less root method? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I guess I may have been spoiled with the G3s app that rooted it.
Another question. You have to have constant internet connection using the existing root method?

I guess not.

Hey guys looking to help my cousin with rooting her mytouch 3g to have wireless tethering. Jsut wanted to see if android-wifi-tether apk works fine with root access?
Tethering is all thats needed, no need for recovery or anything else. So i figure the androot way is the way to go.
Thanks
You have to flash a custom recovery to root so you'll get that either way. Couldn't personally comment on wifi tethering as I haven't used it.

[Q] Netfilter Kernal + OTA updates w/ Root

Alright guys, a few more rookie questions from this kid and I'll stop bothering the piss out of you
First off, I've recently rooted, and I have a few questions. I'm running a stock rom, and I rooted using the one click root but other than that, I haven't done anything major to my phone because I'm sort of lost in the process on a few things.
So, number one, I keep reading about the new update, I think it was DI18 or something to that effect? What I'm curious to know is, am I going to get these updates OTA with root, and, if so, will it remove root or am I fine as long as I have a stock rom? I just need to know if I need to avoid updating the phone OTA or not worry about it.
Also, I wanted to know how to get a netfiltered enabled kernel. i've been trying to use Wireless-Tether and I don't get any errors, just no UL or DL numbers and it doesn't do anything to my computer.
I posted a few threads ago that I am completely new to Android and such and have been running WinMo for the last 4 or 5 years. I'm trying to get used to all of this and after running with my HTC Raphael for the last year and a half I'm finally upgrading and this is a whole new world.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks to everyone in the community! I really appreciate all of it. Oh, and for the record, I've looked around for a few hours on the net trying to figure out these things but I can't seem to find any answers. It seems like all of this is common knowledge for everyone else, but I've been running with Android for less than 2 weeks now. Thanks all.

I seem to be having the same problem you are with wireless tethering. So if you figure out a fix please let me know.
We don't need a special kernel for wireless tether. Wirelss tether for android pre15 works fine for me. Ota updates will remove root, but so far it seems our same root method is fine with 2.2.1 updates (dk28) .

Isn't it true though that some custom kernels don't support tethering? For example, I run Andromeda DI18 and when I try to tether it says its not supported by my kernel.
Well, not sure. The only ones I have run are mix up and fluff. Both worked for me.

[Q] Can anybody help me?

hello im wondering if there is a way to root the atrix 4g 2.3.4 without a computer. I have tried other sites but they dont give me the right solution so if and of you can it would be great.
I don't think so. I think I read somewhere they got a "1-click" method working but it still requires a computer.

EDIT:
This is what I read. Can anyone confirm this?

To my knowledge, there is no un-tethered root program. You have to be able to remote access the phone's internal memory.
You can easily root your ATRIX running Gingerbread, but without out a computer is tough.

If you dont have CWM - no.
If you have CWM - there's a CWM root file somewhere around the forums, it worked for me

so, motorolla upgraded my xoom to 4g lte

but they removed the root, can i do the 3g root again or do i need to follow a new procedure
If you choose to root you can only use one method and do not downgrade it will mess you up. Do not try to use any other kernel either. This is the only way to root. If you have an issue after root just ask. Don't need anyone else messing up their 4g upgrade. We have all been trying to get motor to put up the new bootloader for the upgraded xoom. This is how I rooted mine and my wife's.
