Hi guys. I have been on android since 2011 and ever since I have been modding my phones and devices. One thing I found out is that when you pack your device full of goodies and games and apps, your device can start to get laggy and the battery drains faster.
As for the Galaxy tab 3 I saw that it gets quite laggy when some apps are installed....
Here's what I do to manage and Maintain my tab:
Battery life:
1.) The number 1 thing I do when I unbox and setup my device is install Battery Doctor.
-This app I found charges your device in a certain way to prolong battery survival and it does it in 3 steps.
-This app also has modes that you can turn on that you can customise to a setting of your desire.... it comes with 3 as standard. Extreme mode and super saving mode helps a lot when your not using it for a while.
- Lastly it has optional widgets that you can put on home screen that optimises the battery, cleans apps/cache.
2.) Another one that you may find as useful is MobileCare. This app has a battery saving mode, App manager and Task killer if your are looking at JUST battery. This app offers a much simpler way to reduce battery drainage from the click of a switch power saver mode is enabled.
Performance Enhancing Apps
So to have optimum performance without rooting your device or overclocking here is what I use:
1.) MobileCare - As well as battery saving there a few other tweaks it has that I didn't mention above....
-Game Speeder- this basically give you a choice of the app you wish to run and it will basically optimise the app/game for you so it runs as smooth as possible.
- It also has a built in Antivirus/Anti-theft feature which also speeds and improves performance if there are viruses or ads slowing you down.
- Task killer- this app basically kills all apps and processes so the ram is nice and fresh.....1gb RAM can get packed sometimes.
2.) Memory Booster- This apps really helps as well.
-It features a Quick boost mode when you just want free space and instant performance.
-It also shows proof of it working in the form of a monitor and a diagram showing ram before and after.
-This app also features its own task killer and a boost log.
-This app is really useful because it comes with some really nice small compact widgets that you can do the quick boost function and task killer from a simple tap on the home screen instead of actually opening the APP itself.
Please feel free to add on to this list....I wrote these because they were the most efficient in terms of being able to use them seemlessly.
This thread is ideal for those who havn't got root access and want to maintain their tab 3's.
I will upload links Shortly.
edit-----I know the Task Killer mentioned dosnt kill ALL the apps and processes. However the point of that app is to close all of apps and processes that wouldnt harm your system if they were closed, so you have you normal open apps that need to be closed and then some background apps and clears cache etc.
Not bad, but rooting is so easy and you get much more control.

Yup.. But even after rooting... BAttery doctor really improves battery!
I use juice defender ultimate and du battery saver pro. Best battery saving app. The best contributor is lux auto brightness( paid version). Brightness is very crucial for saving battery. Ex. At night our tabs tend to be more brighter. You can even set the brightness for any light level your in.

LOL I totally forgot about that one. I liked that app for its quick features... most of it was paid though..
Task killers are useless and in fact do more harm than good. Android is quite good at managing its own memory and doesn't need the help. Task killers tend to stay in memory which defeats the purpose, and 99.9% of the time the tasks they kill automatically restart anyway. They are not at all necessary and should be avoided.

I do and also dont agree having task killer why? They dont kill every single app u wanted and thus free only 5MBs of ram. Most apps like Advance Task Killer do the job well but the app itself takes the memory which makes it a disadvantage having a third party app task killer but then they do free up memory very well. Until now I havent found an app which has very less ram consumption and frees up memory very well.

Simple, already built in

They already have a task killer/ram manager already built in.
Simply holding down the middle button brings up all your resent apps with the option to kill all on the right, and on the left an extension which shows among others a RAM Manager.

so laggy
Hi guys, I just got the tab 3 8.0, and I like most part of it but the performance is seriously bad..I have restored ask my apps from Google server and while running apps and switching between them, I can't take all the lags it has. I just got it today so I can return it if I want but I'm wondering if rooting this device actually gains much performance improvements. I used to have a galaxy s2x, which has a similar if not worse spec than this tablet, and I don't know if I was running rooted version of touchwiz or not but the performance was pretty good. This tablet is much worse. A simple reboot fixes the lag but after a few hours, as I use it, I notice the stutters while using it. I just had a serious lag in Google plus app, it was stuttering so bad, but it came back to smooth after 5 seconds.
So installing the custom Rom available for tab 3 8.0 improve the performance significantly? I know there are not many ROMs for tab 3 8.0, so any user of this device just rooted the tab and tweak it themselves to gain performance improvements? Not just little bit, but a lot.
Thanks!

Mine is not laggy in the slightest, in fact it's quite zippy. Instead of blaming the device, look at your apps. It's possible one of them is the culprit. If a reboot helps, it sounds like you have too much stuff loaded in memory. How much free space do you have?
I know what you guys mean...... I know they dont kill all the apps....BUT it still makes a difference.....even if it kills off 200mb of cache and apps.... It makes a dramatic improvement to performance if you are running on a a stock rom! Not all of the task killers work as effectively as eachother I admit but some apps are really good for a quick time boost
I'll chime in. I always read that task killers are useless, because Android inherently does a good job of managing memory or what not. I personally dislike Android's autokiller; the more RAM you have the more it will work non-obtrusively, but it generally has a tendency to kill apps I don't want killed, when they don't need to be killed, and it does nothing at times to kill apps I don't want running.
What I do is I use Minfree Manager (I run it manually on boot, I'm sure there's a file somewhere you can edit which makes the app unnecessary)) to tweak the auto-killer, such that it doesn't kill apps except when absolutely necessary. My previous phablet, I used ZDBox to kill non-whitelisted apps every time I turned the screen on (and I manually killed whitelisted apps when applicable). This worked well and I only have good things to say about ZDBox, the older version was very lightweight and easy to use. Unfortunately ZDBox's task killer is incompatible with the Galaxy Tab 3 (at least my T211).
Thus far with the T211 I have been using Super Manager to kill non-whitelisted apps (like Google Play Services, etc) on standby. I am not sure whether it kills them, it only claims to "clean memory." Yes, they all start back up and memory usage increases quickly once again relative to the blacklisted apps, but this still prevents these apps from running non-stop and accumulating RAM usage, and even if that is meaningless, it at least serves a purpose by flashing a note in my status bar every time I toggle my screen on and off, regarding how much free RAM I have and how many apps are running. Yes the service runs in memory constantly, but that can't possibly be causing a problem because everything is fairly speedy.

I know what that guy means though..... I was running stock rom with stock kernal on my 7.0 and it was fine until I started downloading apps for it....It got to a point where no matter how much I overclock to performance it would still lagg even when i closed all my apps.
However I downloaded a custom rom with all these tweaks and now im running those same apps I had before running as sweat as a nut without even overclocking.:silly:
Hi mate, you are using my ROM, right?
I just quote, so other users get to know RocketTab as well...
And I'm still working on further improvements...
My Galaxy Tab 3 8.0 runs great from stock, but since rooting and using arshull's kernel (latest release) with the addition of trickster mod app, I am getting super snappy performance! With the ability to tweak cpu and gpu settings and build.prop tweaks I couldn't be happier. Battery life is good and I am a heavy user and lag is nonexistent in games, even some of the heavy duty ones.
BtW, a big thanks to arshull for his development with the GTab 3 8.0, and this forum and all its contributors! :good:

well keep in mind the 8.0 has an extra .50 of RAM. So that does effect the performance. I'm having the same issue. I have the S3 with 1.5 of RAM and never have any issues with lagging or apps running out of memory. Im wondering the same thing as the OP if a root would benefit this tablet in the way of performance.
If anyone has a 10.1 that they have rooted could you post any results or performance improvements that you saw from it?

Please give us the link of the specific app "from google play" and also please don't give ad.fly or something that makes us go to some advertisement first before going to the application place, Thanks.
Thanks for the guides.
Thanks . I will really help beginner to have keep an eye on their phone
Hello, I am a user of XSP since August 2013, I have been using this device as my only device since then, and I can tell that I tried every ROM that came out for this device, maybe I can share a little bit of my experience if you let me ..
I am not a developer or anything, but I can help with something at least
Since we got our device we couldn't stand for one particular ROM, we always had to keep changing ROMs so we can get "better" performance, and frankly that wasn't great for most of us, I mean who would want to see his device not in a good performance where we can see lots of lower-price-devices like Xperia M (that has nearly the same support from SONY) get a better performance, and for the word "performance" here I mean RAM management, touch response, the use of those amazing LEDs... etc and didn't mean the performance of heavy games..
we had 4.1.2 and XSP was one of the best 4.1.2 devices out there, then we got the 4.3 and we struggled to get that without any problems in the latest 205 and 207 versions, right? and here I am talking about the flickering issue of the screen, then again we had that poor RAM.. some devs made great CM11 LBL ROMs that were amazing knowing that the kernel is 4.3 and it has some limitations, they made that "High Touch Sensitivity" option, even though it did turn off every now and then but it was great, then there was this HUGE step in XSP life, which was the official support of CM and other big names .. we had an official CM11, it wasn't that great since its was never built on .207 sources (always was on .201) that means it had flickering screen problem and never had the Glove Mode high touch option, so it was petty much unusable.. the CM12.1 was another huge move, it was built on 207 and had that option....... BUT.... it is lollipop! don't you guys think that it is a little too much for XSP? I know it can be buttery smooth and great, especially with latest builds of ALL ROMs from our amazing devs, but as soon as you install facebook and some big apps on that, you go back to the bad 4.3 again, sorry for talking so much, what I am trying to say is, can't we have a UBL CM11 (4.4.4) with 207 kernel sources AND the latest glove mode implementation (of the 5.1.1 in all ROMs) ? think about it, amazing performance, no flickering, no bad RAM management, no horrible touch sensitivity.. pretty much all we need in a smartphone, isn't it? yes it's not Lollipop, yes it's not Marshmallow, but it's an idea, like any other ROM we have, I guess it would be great to have that, and a it's worth a try, I guess
thank you all for reading this (or some of it ) I was just trying to give you my idea.. and I ALWAYS appreciate all the devs work, you gave XSP a shot that SHE can never imagine (that's right, XSP is a she and I am in love with her )
Im thinking the same thing I think devs shouldnt gave all their all time to creating new roms. We have a lot of Lollipop roms, but nothing different between them.
I think, devs should improve 4.3 experience,(or 4.4 you say).
And i think, they should spend much more time to improve the SP's software limitatioms or etc like Gamma/Display Settings, 720p 60 fps camera or something like that. Because our SP can handle it but nobody creates it or works for it. Im sorry about this..
Or the SP's most important thing, The LED's We have only Discolight app (sagar29) for this beautiful LEDs, i think they can improve and create different things about LEDs and give them a life again.
But i appreciate all developers, Thank u guys, you gave a life this phone...
Same line of thinking here! When I was with an Xperia PLAY at the time we heard we didn't was going to have ICS update with is can be equal to no KitKat for the SP, so then the devs work hard and brought ICS, JB and even a working KitKat for that amazing device, but come a time that all we wanted was a powerful and optimized OS and mostly of the devs focus on bring a powerful fricken as hell optimized GB version for the XPLAY with almost 320mb of free ram on a device with less then 512 of total amount of ram, I must say I kind miss this on the SP foruns, as you said, yes its amazing that we have even in alpha state a 6.0 ROM. But I want a fully lag free ROM, ram free with better ram management that I can use for months and not changing from one sluggish ROM to other whitin a week. A thing that always get me is that on the XPLAY we have a 720p record on most kernels (Lupus Kernel, DoomKernel etc.) and for better performance (say to get more free ram and better performance) the devs created a 480p version of the kernel and was fully functional, if someone with more knowledge can answer this for me, That would be possible on the XSP?
hello guys, my father changed phones and left me the legendary htc hd2. so i started playing putting android on it so i can use it as a secondary device or as gps/media center in the car.
being a nexus user i know that android 5 is kind of bugged an possibly heavier than 4.4 that why i choose to install ChauTien SlimKat 4.4.4.
So my big question is: what rom (or kernel) do you recommend to install on the legend for best performance and/or battery life? is there any specific tweak that i should do to the device??
thank you in advance!

I just used the carbon rom (as far as im aware there only is one carbon rom for this phone) as i had it for long on my nexus and really like it. I tried quite a few roms but in reality on android you will always have long app launch times and some UI lag. In terms of absolute smoothness the WP 7.8 easily wins. Not a single bit of lag at all, only annoying problem is getting the thing activated to use the app store as i couldn't find a way to get into a chat with microsoft on their website(might just be the case like a lot of times, that i missed it somewhere really obvious). Avoid android 5 roms, the performance is horrifying. Tested android 6, and it is a little better but still i think that 4.1-4.4 roms are the best if you need android. On android 4.1-4.4 after the long loading of a app is done i found graphical performance quite okay and hill climb racing ran with only minimal lag every once in a while (totally playable), but didn't even get into the actual game on android 5. It also helps a lot to disable HW overlay and force gpu in developer settings as it gets rid of most UI lag.
Hello,
I have a galaxy note 4 but I want to use it only for the gaming now. What is the best rom to install to have the best performances ? I guess the more simple rom ? Idk
Thanks you for your help
Also, I want to know : what is the more powerfull for games, the "galaxy note 4" or the "Leeco Le Pro3 Elite" ? Because I want to buy it if its more powerfull. Thanks you and sorry if my english isnt that good.
The LeEco LePro3 Elite will wipe the floor of Note 4 when it comes to gaming as it is equipped with a beasty SD 820 Chip(IMHO overwhelming performance for gaming) & dont forget for a fact that it is a phone(note 4) from 2014 & Still has so many things that even the newest flagship phone from Top manufacturing companies lacks. Thanks Kamal
Thanks you and what about the best rom for gaming for the note 4 ?
I found the "Pac rom", "Super Fast & Famous ROM" and "emotion os 7.1". They looks pretty good. What is the best for the gaming ?

Actually i got this phone only a week back when this phone started to have SOD(SleepOfDeath) problem in which it occurs for 70% of the Note 4's from 2 years of use from my brother in exchange for my Moto X Style. So i have no idea which rom gives you thee best performance for gaming. But i can give you some infos, Most of the debloated stock roms gives so much performance. If you dont have one & have a complete stock, then removing or disabling(Only if you are rooted & disable it through Ti Backup) the smart manager itself will give you you much better performance, since that thing will scan things on the fly, which is not at all good. Samsung must have included a way to disable that crap but to no avail it happened. Cheers!!
Thanks for your awnser. Yeah the stocks roms are so big (like 2Gb the rom !) And the customs are like only 300mb. I think the "Pac Rom" is the best for gaming when you see the name..
