anybody found a good screen protector??? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

It seems like everywhere I go everyone has the same complaint: the screen protectors don't cover the whole screen or are not designed to bend with the curvature of the v20?
I've had it for little over a week and I've found that those same areas that are making it hard for me to find a good screen protector are the same areas that are the most scratch prone when you lay the phone face down.
If you know of a decent screen protector PLEASEEEE let me know

ok, do you really REALLY need the LG logo to be covered by a screen protector? i mean it doesn't really matter if it gets scratched...it's not the screen.
the spigen tempered glass is amazing. fits well, no halo, clear as anything, and best of all doesn't get that oily rainbow effect from your fingers all day long. it's worth the 10 bucks for two.

I went with a Skinomi wet apply protector. It was hard going back to a non-glass protector, NB it no way I could do the partial fit ones that are currently available. Pretty satisfied with it, very clear and feels pretty good. I'm still keeping an eye out for some better fitting glass ones in the future.

Completely, minus cutouts for camera and sensor.

Be aware you should post it in accessories section.
Since the screen has rounded (2.5d) feature on top and bottom, it's nearly impossible to cover the screen entirely with glass.
Glass plate for V10 with cam cutout is the best bet for you. I am using supershieldz glass for V10 and it works 100%

G2 "vision" scratch resistant?

Just wondeering if the Tmobile G2 "Vision" is scratch resistant.
A couple people have tried with keys and said it was fine.
HA!
Scratch resistant my rear! SCREEN PROTECTORS! Common sense should tell ya, you need them... My .02
My Vibrant is supposed to have Gorilla Glass which is probably the most scratch-resistant glass you can get on a device. But you know what? I still use a screen protector. If you get a good one and apply it properly, you won't even be able to notice it's there. And they're cheap so why not?
I already have screen protectors and a case sitting at my house so I'm ready for when my G2 comes in the mail.
I'm getting one cause I hate the glass feels and the way it smears. I'll be getting a zagg invishield

So you prefer the feel of a rubbery orange peel to smooth glass? Those Zagg screen protectors are awful IMHO. I'm sure they do a great job of protecting the screen, however.

I love the feel of zagg shields and they reduce the smear affect. To me it feels grippy and protected I really really dislike wiping my screen off multi times a day. And yes they do a wonderful job of protecting the screen.

Not scratch resistant by any means. I have my phone in my pocket w/o keys or change and the screen has lots of scratches.

Is any phone really scratch resistant? Its usually a coating that goes away in a matter of a week depending on how much you use it. I would at least get a cheap screen guard to be safe.

You will definitely eventually get scratches if you don't use a screen protector.
Ive taken Keys and Razor Blades to mine and nothing. So id say yes but if u arent carful im sure u can scratch the crap out of it hehe
Are Zagg screen protectors anti-glare?
lets just say its not made of sapphire crystal or diamond.
I'm getting the zagg max coverage. I choose to err on the side of caution when it comes to the screen and I really like the brushed metal accents and want to protect them from scratches as well. I'm pretty sure keys etc will leave a lasting impression. I personally don't like the added bulk of snap-on cases.

I grabbed the over priced anti smear t-mobile ones.. ($14.99) for 2.
They seem to be protecting fine, hiding finger prints great, and not coming off... but it hasn't been that long.
Just in case

The T-Mobile screen protectors seem to use the same material and adhesive as the off-brand ones I used on my G1. Those held up really well for me. I only replaced the protector once in about 1.5 years and the second one was still going strong when my G1 got relegated to yet-another-backup-phone in the junk drawer.
Its true eventually scratches will magically appear "they really do" So i decided to get a protector and since i never had protectors for my phone i would like one or two advices of which ones would be the best option.

Maybe if you carry your phone in the same pocket as your keys, or like dialing with the point of a bayonet....otherwise I see no need.

okej thanks m8 do u have nay scratch?
This has been thoroughly discussed in the accessories section.
I have the Zagg Invisible Shield and i like it. You can't notice it on the screen exept if there is sun like a lot of sunlight on it, but you do feel like a bit of a plastic everytime you tuch the screen, i mean it is not that smooth to the feel, but the phone registers your touch every time with no problem.
I use one I got from bestskinsever.com (I think), its great. Takes a little getting used to the texture as you're obviously not touching bare glass anymore but it definitely does the job well, no discolouring or marks on my phone since using it
Why use a Display Shield when you have a Gorilla Glass onboard?
To be, or not to be: that is the question!
you don't need a screen shield
the glass is harder than the shields
i tried to scratch it with keys and it just can't be scratched
a firend of mine did it. and why not be on the safe side if you can?
havent used a screen protector since i bought the phone about 8 months ago
i havent got any visible scratch on the screen. not even under the sun
maybe when i use a microscope, then yes, but mmm.. im not going to
Had mine bare for 8 months as well and the screen still looks perfect, and trust me I'd notice any significant blemishes. Just the other day I wiped it clean and looked under bright light and could only see a couple of near-microscopic scratches.
A shield would ruin the feel IMO. I just keep out in its own pocket and hold it tight.

I prefer having one than not too... I had one so far and know that i removed i see i'd rather have one on for extra protection. After all Gorilla glass can be scratched too (although it's not easy to scratch it). I'm on the "better safe than sorry" side but for others who are very careful with the phone i would just suggest a case!
It is not neccesary for scratches but it may help to protect the screen from shattering when you drop it..

the force that is needed to scratch this glass would also scratch it past one of the screen shields
screen shields are useless for this phone, they just make it look uglier... and in some cases like zaag they also add a rubbery feel which ruins the smooth experience
I've had mine in my pocket with a hand full of screws an no scratch on the display

to be honest it's unnecessary but for me it's annoying to wipe my screen everytime it gets dirty, and with a screen protector it doesn't smudge as easily
I took off my screen protector and now have a scratch. Its only visible if you switch off display and see the screen under a bright light. The back cover really needs some protection cause its a scratch magnet.
Gorilla Glass is resistant to everyday scratches, like from dust particles and carrying it in your pocket and things like that. No screen is resistant to high force impact.
I've had my Galaxy for over a month now and the display glass is still pristine (and I use it in differrent environments)! I had a Desire which was durable to some extent as well, but I managed to scratch its screen somehow. This phone? No problem whatsoever.
The plastic casing, however... the back cover has visible "signs" of usage
Strangely enough I have had some mixed experiences with gorilla glass.. My own galaxy GT-i9000 went 2 weeks and the screen was fine.. then i decided my fingers had grubbed it up a little too much.. took my cleaning cloth for my glasses and went to work only to find i had basically put hairline scratches over the whole screen.. Not terrible mind you but noticeable under bright lights or on low screen brightness..
On the other end of the scale I convinced a friend to get the galaxy s also.. Walking down a dirt road, he tripped while holding the phone and it slip maybe 5 meters down the dirt.. not a single scratch.. the plastic was a bit tarnished though from bouncing around.

Best Screen Protector For Xperia Play Nu-Clear

Okay I thought i'd make this quick thread to help you guys out. Some of you Xperia users don't realize Sony Preinstalls this screen protector or should i say "Shatter Glass" on all of their devices. Is this good? Simple answer, NOT. AT. ALL. When i took the shatter glass off i noticed an increase in brightness and the phone was more vibrant and so i order this Nu-Clear Screen protector off Amazon And it is the best screen protector I have ever had. It is so smooth and feels like its not even there and the phone is just as vibrant with it as it is without it. This screen protector only cost $3 with free shipping when you sign up for Prime on Amazon which i suggest you do because its free for a month and ou cn just cancel it before that.
Heres the link
amazon.com/gp/product/B005KGBCFG/ref=cm_cr_thx_view
To take off that preinstalled shatter glass i sugest ou use something thin and sharp because it's on there pretty damn good. I used a razor blade and started picking at the bottom left of the phone right by the back button and had it off in no time.
Now when installed the Nu-clear screen protector clean the phone with some windex and a paper napkin then wipe off the phone with the microfiber cleaning cloth and blow away all the dust. Then when applying a screen protector i suggest you peel it off just a little so you can align it up with the top of the phone. Once lined up start pulling back the tab little by little while pushing a card(credit card or whatever) to make sure no air bubbles pop up.
This video pretty much shows you what i mean.

Hope i helped because that preinstalled shatter glass was just annoying and was a magnet for scratches!

So there is a layer that comes installed on the phone already? Nice to know I can remove it because I've scratched it up pretty good and I've only had the phone about two weeks. I haven't even really done anything to scratch it either, so I was actually a little upset when I started noticing them.
Sent from my R800x using XDA App
Be careful, if you remove that layer you need to put on some other sort of screen protector. If you don't you'll notice that if your hands are moist at all the touch screen won't work properly.

I've used two types, the one that came with the otterbox encasement, which turned out horribly.. had a bubble within the screen protector almost immediately, but that could've been my fault, but i had to re apply it several times, which only seemed to multiply the air trapped between the screen and protector. And I used the standard AT&T screen protectors, which are amazing, they're thick, anti smudge, clear, and since they're pretty thick, they don't bubble at all, really easy to apply too. but it's like 16 bucks for 2.
.. and i just realized that op might just be advertising.
me too man, i smell a salesman.. hehe
I bought the phone and shop gave me a cheap screen protector... now I have smudges of fingerprints all over (oily hands).. but then, still better than naked.
Guess I'll change to matte (anti-fingerprint) type after this. Anyone using matte? Is it good on xplay?
It comes with a protector on it, there really is no need to replace it. My screen is perfectly bright with it on. I clean my screen off a few times a day with a little cloth, looks brand new after every wiping. (im also SUPER careful with my phone, and I hate fingerprints, OCD)
It isn't even a screen protector it's ah shatter glass

Just want to clarify that :>>>> the touch screen is whether made of Glass or Plastic? In case of Glass, it's no need to add a screen protector and remove the pre-install screen protector can improve the screen quality and touch response.
Pls advise.

I recommend, its cheap and reliable. plus you get 2 for the low price of 3 bucks

xoskins and xtreme guard screen protectors

Hiya guys,
I was just wondering if anyone else has either used xoskins or xtreme guard protectors and been left feeling disappointed? I originally had an SGP ultra on my nexus 4 but I was feeling a little annoyed that it didn't cover the full screen. Other than that they're perfect, nice screen hardness difficult to scratch and leave the screen looking amazing. I really thought the xoskins one would be perfect so I paid the price and ordered (shipped from US to UK).
Finally arrived, installed straight away. Let me just say I've fitted lots of screen protectors before to various phones and I'm pretty good at it. So much so friends and family ask me to do theirs for them. Still, the xoskins one felt a little fiddly. The solution they provide makes it very slippy, so using the squigy afterwards made it squirm around which was annoying. Also, even though both sides were wet the squigy still left slight burns after only 3-4 swipes. It took a full 48 hours for it to dry.
The cut on the protector was good, and it was nice and clear. It seemed to leave a slight orange peel effect across the screen though, and I had 4-5 thin rainbow type lines/scratches about 1cm long on the one side which were clearly on the underside of the protector (all perfectly straight and all facing down perfectly so I'm thinking manufacturing fault?). The feel of the protector was frankly awful. It flexes under finger and restricted swiping somewhat. Worst of all, any slight knock leaves imprints. I tested it by lightly rubbing my nail across it, it left a clear mark that was there for 2-3 days! It flexes way more than I'd like, I can't see it providing much protection from knocks tbh. Granted I wouldn't do this in normal usage but any other knocks left imprints too.
So I removed it, and thought I'd try the xtreme guard. My god, I've never used such a rubbish protector. The cut is dubious at best, the screen clearly looks worse when its on and it suffers from the same indentations and flexing as the xoskins ones.
Maybe I've been spoilt by the SGP ones (I still have the back protector SGP skin on there as its a perfect fit as its flat) or maybe all wet application protectors are like this to be more flexible for the curved glass?
Either way I've ordered another set of SGP protectors and I'll put up with the exposed edges. I'm sure there's people out there that are happy with their protectors, but I just wanted to share my experiences.
Wet applied screen protector can never compete with the dry one..even the $1 junk one.
I took off my Xtremeguard and using the junk that came with my nillkin case..which is still much clearer than the xtremeguard.
But I keep the back of xtreme since it make it less slippery.
Glad its not just me who found this then I can see how having a *stickier* back protector could be beneficial. The SGP one I have is still rather slippy. Hoping it will help strengthen the back though in case it has any accidents The SGP ones saved my iPhone 4 before. One was a drop from my ear onto a wooden floor!
It's nice to read that I am not the only one who dislike the Xtreme guard screen protectors.
I just cant believe how sticky it feels and how much it gets scratches and dents.
I've got a fillkin flip case comming my way as well so I think I'm also going to replace the front xtreme guard screen protecotr with the nillkin one.
One thing to keep in mind for all wet protectors is that when you need to push out the bubbles, never used a squeegee. It is very difficult to avoid burns on the surface with a squeegee. Instead wet your finger tips and push the bubbles out with your finger. Much easier and doesn't leave burn marks.
If you absolutely need to use a squeegee, the paper one provided by SGP (ironically) is pretty good for wet protectors. Use the corner as much as possible and don't push too hard.
I myself prefer dry protectors as well but there are indeed some good things about wet ones. They are very scratch resistant, provide more grip, and doesn't show finger prints as much.
The xo skin i have is trash the front has so many random Knicks and bubbles and stuff the back does too but I'm going to leave that on and just use these 3 for $5 screen protectors from amazon until the glass protector comes out with reviews

I am using the XG and granted it has it's orange peel look to it, but I don't mind it. The look reminds me that I have a sp on and I can safely put the phone in my Seidio holster without looking. LOL.
Yes, the screen looks way better with a dry sp on, but I am happy with the cutouts and fitment. And plus doesn't affect the Diztronic Ultra hard case at all when taking off or putting on. Which is good IMO.
Am I 100% happy? No, I say maybe 96%. But for the price of 3 front and backs for 6 bux. I can't really complain too much.
Xtreme Guard are excellent. You just need to take your time applying it and pushing out the bubbles. Minimal orange peel and the protection is perfect around the curved edges.
After having mine on for nearly a week i'd still disagree. I have no bubbles or marks on the xg but it does have the black spots issue I've read about which suck! The cuts off on mine everything is aligned perfectly with screen edges but 1/4 of the camera lens is covered. Honestly its not how I fitted it. The feel is also pretty bad. I genuinely cannot wait until I get my new SGP ones.
Xoskins replied to my email about 4-5 days after I showed photos of the defects. They are sending me out a new protector at least. Will probably sell it on eBay to claw back some cash.
I'm not going to bother emailing xg as they're cheap and tbh I won't be going near their protectors again!

The problem I had with XO Skins was that the protector for the back of my n4 had a little pin hole in it! Luckily they are replacing it free of charge, including shipping! Which is good cause I'm in the UK and did not want to pay to send it back to the US.
The protector for the screen however has been brilliant, I've had it for about two weeks on there and the sort of rubbery feeling goes away and it feels very similar to the glass on touch. If a little more squishy. It does not drag against my finger anymore.
As for bumps leaving marks, I've noticed that, but they always go away within about thirty seconds.
All the bubbles have disappeared on my screen and its very clear.
I definitely agree with the OP about the application process though, the solution makes it very slippery, which is good when trying to position the skin. But when using the squeegee to push out the air bubbles and liquid the skin moved everywhere. After that though, it dried family quickly, did leave it overnight anyway.
I'd say I'm pretty pleased with my XO Skins purchase.

Why not? I'm talking about the front facing camera not on the rear. My SGP ones arrived this morning so the xg one was ripped off almost straight away so unfortunately I can't take you a photo to show you.
The cut was definitely off, there was some extra material right in the dip of the cut out that goes around the lens as if it hadn't been cut cleanly. The dip wasn't rounded like it should of been. Maybe I just got a bad one in this respect, but it shows there is very little quality control. Especially as mine also suffered from the same black spots I've seen elsewhere.
The bottom of the protector was literally up against the chrome rim, I couldn't of positioned it any lower so it wasn't due to bad positioning. It was just poorly made.
I've just ordered a Nillkin case which will hopefully help protect the bits of glass the SGP ones miss. The feel and screen clarity is so much nicer!
Well, xoskins replacement arrived today. It had been put into an envelope that has a bright blue lining and the edges of the protector now have a lovely blue haze. Great! It didn't even have a piece of card in to stop bending etc. so lucky it survived at all.
Not even worth trying to sell it, If I purchased one off ebay myself and it had this haze I'd be gutted. Really disappointed with them.
I did notice they seem to of changed the design too. My previous xoskins one had a U shaped cut out for both the front camera and the proximity sensor. This new replacement has O shaped holes for both so that there is something actually protecting the top edge all the way along.
That sounds like your first one was a case fit and your new one is a full skin. When I got a replacement it came sealed in a baggy, crazy. I would hit them up again.

The first one I had definitely went right up to the chrome edges on every part other than the top by the proximity sensor and camera where there was a U shape.
I'll drop them another email and see what happens. They can only say no.
Well, what can I say? I'm using the xg for the front and for the back of my nexus 4 and I'm very pleased with it. I have them on for about 2 weeks now and everything is well..
The cut of the xg protector is one of the best out there. In my past galaxy nexus I used a clear screen protector and every 2 months I had to change it with a new one because of the dust that got under it... Causing to many bubbles.
That's not the case with the xg protector. This thing is not going anywhere.. And I also use it with the official LG bumper case with no problems..
I'll try to upload some pictures for you to see.. The only disadvantage is that the feel of the xg protector is worst from other clear screen protectors, using the dry install method.

glass and scratches

anyway, this phone gets micro-scratches with pleasure
the gnex glass was much stronger
The phone has an Anti-Shatter protective film on the screen. It's the film that scratches not the glass. The glass is tempered and is scratch resistant.
I personally use Nillkin Amazing tempered glass screen protector on top of ASF. Now that you have scratched it up you could consider removing it. Do bare in mind that you will loose the Sony logo and possibly your screen warranty ( dependent on the region)

Consider getting a screen protector. The glass ones are awesome. There is a thread in Q&A section.

Hey Shem.
Thanks for the video, that looks fantatsic.
One thing I would say is the protector doesn't seem to sit in line with the edge of the screen, almost a bit of an eye sore, but your scratch test has me wondering if it would be worth overlooking that for the clear protection it provides.
Is there any alternatives that you would recommend? I tried finding that particular thread you mentioned but not quite tracked it down. I'll keep digging

I got mine from a polish equivalent of Ebay. I am afraid I don't know any other sources. Try ebay, amazon etc or google it.

And of course, I ordered the glass protector this morning and this afternoon the phone fell and got two chips in the protection film that can be clearly seen on white backgroud, and felt with the nails...
Is it difficult to remove the sony film?
