New MultiWindow feature on JB 4.1.2: developer needed :)

So,
as many of you may have already realised (see post here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36025159&postcount=39), if you are on a rooted JB 4.1.2 ROM, enabling multi window is just a matterof adding the app code to a system file (namely /root/syste/csc/feature.xml).
This is easy to do manually, but it'd be awsome if some willing developer could develop a very simple android app, where you get the list of installed apps and yoiu choose the ones for which you want multi window embaled.
I'd pay for such an app, and I am ready to be a beta tester

I would be willing to pay for this app and test as well. I have manually done a few myself but its just a pain.

Count me in as well.

maybe an admin can put this post as a ticky to increase visibility?

no that's not what I am talking about...
What I suggest is an app that lists all installed apps and at the same time reads the apps in the feature.xlm to mark thise already enabled for multiwindow.
The app allows to select/deselect the installed apps to add /remove them to/from features.xml
That would be a 2h job + testing, nothing fancy...
I'd really pay for that...

no need to flash anything with recovery or be deodexed...
just install the app...
only requirement is to be rooted to access feature.xml

never wrote a line of code for android sorry... I could write it for pc but that would be of no use

I've almost got it done...Ive never written anything for android either until yesterday so its taking a little longer than 2 hrs I'll upload a beta later on today

This could not have worked more perfectly. This is exactly what everyone is looking for, I think. Thank you so much for your efforts! Do you plan on putting this on the Play Store?
I will mention that this app works flawlessly, but not all apps format perfectly. I tested about 30 apps, and about 3-5 of them either didn't work at all, or were barely functional. This still takes this tablet above and beyond where it was though.

I suggest you create a new thread with this information. I dont think people will find it buried in her. This deserves its own space!

It works. Thanks for developing this. One small issue, I unticked YouTube in the list, but it remained multi-window. I think for any unticked apps, you still need to include them in the features.xml file, but they need to start with a "-" , e.g. -com.google.android.youtube

I think the app is pre-installed on the S4 already? Check the Samsung Link app. I also think this is only supported for Samsung computers, but I could be mistaken.

Go to the Samsung Apps... app. You have to sign in or create an account. From there, you can go to the Samsung App store and search for Side Sync. I'm setting it up now.

I'm looking for the program for the PC now. Samsung only offers the user manual for a download on the ATIV notebooks and no programs. So far, that's the only computer I can find that has that software.

...but then on the Facebook page it says:
" Hi everyone - SideSync is currently compatible with Samsung ATIV Book, Tab and One devices running Windows 8, on which it comes pre-installed and is also available via SW Update. A version compatible with older Samsung Notebooks will be available soon. The companion app for Android phones can be downloaded via Samsung Apps. We hope this helps!"
I wonder if any of these damn review sites can get ANY of the information they are spewing correct. Oh well.

I've been looking for an installer and can't find one. Samsung doesn't even have it listed for download on their site. If you can find it, please link!

I am willing to bet that they will only make the app for the Samsung older PCs available via software update for those specific PCs. It would be interesting to see if they offer the app as a stand alone, and if it works on other PCs.

The first rar i downloaded only had the exe file. The one in this other link has two folders. Installing now.

Go to settings - > app and uninstall hangout. It will bring talk back. It worked for me.. in my Note 2.

Thanks, this worked for me. I tried using Hangouts for a few days but found it lacking in some areas (mainly I wasn't able to easily locate who was online/offline/away). Talk just seems a lot more user friendly as it's much simpler.

You can revert to old Talk app by following simple steps given in the link below:

My 4.2.2 rom came with hangouts already installed so uninstalling updates wont put Talk back on.

I noticed there was an update to the Hangouts app on September 30. I'm still using talk because when I tried hangouts when it first came out it was very difficult to use. Has anyone downloaded the updated hangouts app? According to some comments I read, you now have the ability to see who is online. Has the new update improved the functionality?

I still can't tell who's online, but for the moment I'm rolling with it because I'm tired of reverting to Talk with every nightly I flash.

I just got the update yesterday. It had big green circles on the right for the people that are online. Can't miss it now.

The latest version (released 9/30) makes it very easy to see who is online.

It's much quicker now. When you first boot (or if you kill the app) it still takes a second to open Hangouts, but returning to the app doesn't reload it every time like it did on the last version. It also seems much faster when moving between hangouts/opening a new hangout.

I also have Note 2 (android 4.3) and in Apps I'm only offered to disable it, not to uninstall it. What android version do you use?

App update question

Can anyone tell me if an app gets updated will any part of the old app be left behind? Like if I install an .apk from some random website, then update it in the play store, is any part of the old app left? Or is it completely new?

Once an update is there, its the updated app. If you downloaded an apk to side load it, you may have the original apk from the download, but the app is new.

I'm curious because I installed a copy of the Aviate launcher that I got from some random webpage, then updated it in the store. I'm just concerned with the original app being altered in some way that would transmit personal information. So I have the new update, but I don't know if it can still be tainted after the update. That's what I really want to know.
Edit ( I just noticed that you're from Spring Hill. I live in Murfreesboro.)

Does aviate push out updates to thier launcher?
I don't use it so I'm not sure how it works or if it would.
But once an app updates, it updates. I just pushed an update to an app I manage, and it completely replaces everything.

Google Dialer app

Can anyone help me out how I can get the google phone/dialer app on our 6T. I have the T-MO version and obviously it's not yet unlockable. Is there a non-rooted version of the google dialer? I just hate the stupid dialer and sms apps that come with the stock OS.
It's upsetting that OnePlus doesn't allow us to install it from the Store. We should have the freedom of choosing what works best for us.

You could search apk mirror for the google dialer. Just search google dialer apk and you should see a website not too far down called APK Mirror.

Not sure off hand. I just came from a Nexus 6 and that had voice mail app in dialer. However I just tried this app and it won't install. You could try searching for a variant of this app

I tried other variants, it didn't install either. It's a shame that we are being forced to choose something we don't want. Trying to download from the Store - tells me my device is not compatible, which is a load of crap!
Can't wait to unlock my phone.

Lol yeah that was the first place I tried too. I saved all my apps as apks from my old phone and tried to install them on the op6t. I'd say all save 4 installed. And the ones that did6were Google apps. I'll keep searching and let you know if I find anything

Solution is found!! Thanks for the PM. XDA already has a thread about google dialer. Latest v25 with dark theme installed perfectly fine. I like this phone more now

What's the solution? Just picked up my 6T and would prefer the Google phone and contacts.

The search in dialer works very well, it can be the fastest way to get a number for a local place. The spam block is somewhat less effective but still a lot better than nothing. I'm looking forward to getting the screening which I suspect will be coming our way. I sent my Pixel 3 XL back and that's one of the things I'm missing.

Same here. Google has indicated that call screen is only going to be available on the Pixel 3 for a while.
I hope someone can grab it and put I on our OP6t!!

The apps are more streamlined and fit better with the overall Google environment. Not to mention call blocking feature and scam call screening is amazing

Yeah, they've said that about a number of features but we had the stuff pretty quickly; sometimes within weeks. The force is strong with our developers! I'm sure you're aware of that, I'm just stating my agreement. In a way it's kind of sad; the stock dialer is pretty good, it just lacks a few killer features. Who know, maybe the one plus 7 will see some improvements in this area?
