Some hided shortcuts & gestures in EMUI maybe you don't know - Honor 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

I used Honor 6 with EMUI 4.01 version, and found some useful shortcuts on my phones. I guess the EMUI has much in common, so maybe your Honor 8 has the shortcuts.
1) You don't need to press the power button every time you lock off your screen. You can quickly double touch lock
screen to turn it on. You need to activate "double touch" option in settings>smart assistance>motion control>double touch.
2) Draw a letter to open apps in lock screen. Such as you can draw "M" to activate music app, "C" to camera. Really useful and fast, also set in settings>smart assistance>motion control>draw letters
3) Cast your phone screen to big screen like your TV/monitor. Find multi-screen option in settings, turn the function on. If you TV/monitor has mirror cast function, turn it on, then connect your Honor with your TV/screen via wifi connection. If you TV/monitor doesn't have mirror cast function, get a mirror cast adapter to get the function.
Maybe your guys Honor 8 has the three shortcuts. I am a newbie on XDA, this is my first thread post, if you find the post helpful, give me a thumb up.

Honor 8 doesn't have any screen off gestures, and dt2w..

It should remain this function on Honor 8.

Maybe it's a cheaper touch screen to reduce the cost.

Not necessarily. The Honor 8 can be unlocked using the fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone without hitting the power button first. Since the Honor 6 lacks said sensor, it makes sense for that device to have another method of unlocking the phone other than the power button. Also, there is no "double touch" option in Settings - Smart Assistance - Motion Control, so that's another reason why the function is not present on the Honor 8.

Tap to wake or unlock via fingerprint possible?

Got it a couple of hours ago and I''m wondering if there's any way round having to press the home button to unlock the phone, like being able to just rest my finger on the pad to wake it and unlock.
Any idea how to enable double tap to wake up the S7 edge? Just a new user coming from the xperia Z2.

I'd also love to know hopefully it's possible.
Nearest thing I've found so far is to enable edges then when screen is off, swipe up and down to show the edge content at which point you can unlock via fingerprint reader.

Not really, only the other way round, press the home button and leave the finger on it and it will unlock straight away.

Not possible unfortunately. The method Tectas explained above, is the quickest way.

Found this way to, but would prefer an easier one.
Well I have tried a few tap to wake apps and they all fail. This is making me think that the always on display is actually an app in its own right meaning the tap to wake apps don't activate. Any thoughts my learned colleagues?
Gotta push the button. I understand you want to just rest your finger and let it unlock (like nexus 6P) but is it really that hard to put little bit of pressure to actually push the button and just leave your finger there like you would have with a 6P? Only step you're doing is moving your finger 1/40 of an inch to actuate the button lol.
Partial success! Following this guide for the S6 edge I can have tap to wake working http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general/tap-to-wake-samsung-device-t3141850
The snag is, and here's the new challenge, to have either AOD or edge clock working whilst it's asleep.
@razorseal : it's not a biggie, I am just trying to recreate the functionality of Windows phones as it was a beautiful workflow that I'd like to keep of glance screen and DT2W/DT2S.
So I'm thinking it's an app like Knockr I need but one which somehow allows AOD to work. Any suggestions welcome - I'm not averse to rooting to achieve this.
Getting closer still. So I uninstalled all that stuff from the link above and put this app on: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.orthur.always_on_display&hl=en
It has an AOD display which if you put your finger on the pad it reads the print and unlocks. It does have a double tap to wake as well which can be used to open the lock screen and then do the fingerprint.
So now I just need a double tap to sleep app then if the battery drain isn't too crazy, the mission is complete.
Anyone know a good double tap to sleep app that isn't a floating widget? Something like on CM13 whereby you double tap the status bar and it goes to sleep would be good.
You could always enable the 'Easy screen turn on' feature, which can be found by going to 'Accessibility' and then 'Dexterity and Interaction'....
I believe this was previously known as 'Air View'.
I hope this helps.

This will probably drain your battery too much. Many of these (root-less) apps keep the AMOLED screen on but with a black rectangle displayed so it looks like it's off. But don't fall into the "AMOLED black does not consume power" lie. There is an entire system powering the screen that consumes power.

Yep this is the easiest solution folks. It's what I use. Just a simple wave or swipe finger over the proximity sensor, device wakes up. There is also a setting elsewhere that stops the phone from waking up if its in your pocket or so, so good idea to use that too.

Quite a nice solution. I wonder if it has any impact on battery, since the proximity sensor is probably always-on ?
I still hate Samsung for not implementing double tap to wake. I mean, they copy everything from Apple, but they can't copy a really useful feature like this from LG (or whoever had it first without battery drain) ?

I've had this enabled for a couple of days now and my battery life is fine, yesterday I got the best screen on time which I've ever had on a phone, 7hr 20 min....so far I don't think it's having an impact.

Theme is called Rediz, it's available in the theme store...

Answer to your question is Nova Launcher Pro. You can use the double tap gesture to lock the screen, no widgets required. Let me know if you have any confusion with that. The only downside with that is when I wake the phone back up, it says and I quote "Enter PIN instead of using fingerprint recognition because of security policy". It's quite a big deal for me, having to type in the PIN instead of just resting my finger on the home button. Still searching an answer for that. If anyone has found a workaround/solution, please let me know.
PS: Sorry, I had to cut the playstore link from your original message, XDA forums won't let me post with a link in it.

So, I researched a bit and found a workaround. I am not allowed to post links here, so, find an app called 'Screen Lock Pro' from the Play Store. Its by a developer called Prahallad and costs $2.37. Then activate it as a device administrator, go to setting and enable 'Smart Lock and Nexus Imprint'. Then go back to your Nova Launcher settings, into 'Gestures & Inputs'. Select 'Double Tap' under gestures and select the shortcuts tab on the top. From there, select the 'Screen Lock Pro (Shortcut)' and you're done. There are a ton of other features in the app and I am still trying them all out one by one.

Does double knock/tap on notification bar turn off screen using Nova Prime?

Hi,
I'm using Nova Prime and keep reading that it's possible to double knock the notification bar to turn off the screen without lock so the fingerprint sensor still works. But I have not been able to get my S7 Edge to screen off with this method, it just tried to open up the notification tray. I can use the double tap feature in Nova prime to screen off and lock, but then can't use the fingerprint sensor without first putting in a pin -- this is not what I want. I would be satisfied with knocking on the notification bar to do this, but can't make it work. Is there something I need to enable first?
There's one screen lock app that does what you want, but it uses sort of a kludgy method to do so.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iglint.android.screenlockpro
Any app that actually turns off the screen will cause the behavior you've described. Screen Lock Pro, using the Marshmallow workaround in settings, applies a dark overlay to he screen, so it looks like it's off. But it doesn't really shut off until about 10 seconds later. Most of the time this is OK, but if you press the power button during that 10 seconds, intending to turn the phone back on, you've actually turned it off. And if you touch one of the soft keys, they'll light up.
Another option is built in. Settings / Accessibility / Dexterity and interaction / Assistant menu. This puts a blue spot on the screen to which you can assign various functions, including screen lock.

Thank you for the answer.
Acutally, I'm not looking to install Screen Lock Pro. I want to get the double tap on the notification bar working through Nova Prime which is supposed to turn off the screen without locking the phone. But for some reason that's not working on my S7 Edge. Any ideas why? Does anyone have this working on the S7 Edge or is that function not supported on the S7 Edge with Nova Prime?
I don't know if it's a Marshmallow issue, or an S7 issue, but any app which actually locks the screen will require a PIN unlock afterwards. There's no work-around that I've seen.
It´s not "tapping on the notification bar". It´s tapping anywhere on the screen (besides the notification bar). That´s how it is working for me with Nova to turn the screen off.
If you want double tap specifically the notification bar, you have to use an extra app like the one posted above or use this free app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures
Here are some comments I found regarding the "tap the notification bar" that turns off screen and still allows fingerprint unlock using Nova Launcher. Supposedly you do not need an extra app to do this since it is built into the function of Nova Launcher. Is this phone specific or why cannot get the double tap on notification bar to work on the S7 Edge. Does anyone have this working?
The double tap in Nova locks the screen and will require password, etc. to open. Fingerprint will not work. The same is true for all of the apps that allow double tapping to lock the phone. Something in the code for Marshmallow only allows locking and not just putting the screen to sleep. Double tapping the notification bar or hitting the lock button will work as it should with the fingerprint scanner working.
This is correct, using a gesture or anything other than double tapping the status bar or letting it timeout will not allow you to use the fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone. On my previous phones I'd use the screen off and lock app to be enabled by using the swipe down gesture to turn off the screen. Even using that app with the G5 won't let me unlock with the fingerprint sensor
Fix = Nova free knock on the notification bar at the top of the screen and fingerprint scanner will unlock the phone.
It works the same with the paid version [of Nova Launcher]. Knocking on the notification bar will turn the screen off and the fingerprint scanner will work to unlock.

Double tapping the notification bar to lock is a feature found on LG phones, and the user you quoted mentioned the LG G5.

Honor 5x - Shake your phone to organize apps on the home screen

Honor 5X doesn’t have an application drawer. That means every single app or game that’s installed on your device will be placed on the home screen. So, things can get real crowded, real quick but enabling a specific motion control can help tidy things up a bit.
Goto Settings > Motion control > Shake
when enabled, allows you to quickly rearranging your icons during the home screen editing mode. Just either 2-finger pinch on the home screen (or long press a blank area) and give the phone a good shake on the specific home screen you’d like to organize. Easy.
Even you can shake the mobile while getting bored so that apps gets aligned automatically.
I think people knows this feature, as its been long since the phone was released.

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean.
Do you mean can you edit the home screen? Change the launcher?
Then yes on any firmware.
Not sure if that's what you meant but there you go
9/10 if you're looking to mod your 1+ in some way, then the answer is usually yes..
Hope this helps
I've heard praise for this system, but it's missing a lot of basic features.
By changing the home screen, I mean this (example on Honor View 20)
home screen
One-hand mode I mean this (example on Honor View 20)
one hand mode
I didn't even find this feature
slide home screen loop
