Unlucky to get Android 7.0 - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

I have ATT S7 edge model. Unfortunately, it is not on the supported list. Is there a way to make ATT S7 edge get into the beta and 7.0? I heard my country is opened for beta testing. Please help. Thanks in advance.

How about a custom rom, you can use it almost everywhere... only need is a csc file for your country i think... Go for it!

Just flash the beta through ODIN.

The final will be out soon anyway and don't forget if its like how Samsung treated the UK S6 owners last year they wont get the final release till much later even though they beta tested it.........I think just about everyone got the final before us, I've not got the UK S7 this year around so fingers crossed

Galaxy Upgrade Program

Hi,
When I purchased the S7 edge last year I signed up Galaxy Upgrade Program. (You return your phone after one year for the latest).
I know it's too soon but I can't find any details of this program any more and the Samsungs T&C page now doesn't exist.
I'm wondering if they will be in contact once the S8 has been announced.
Saying that I still love my S7e as I did the day I got it. If the S8 is pants I'll just keep it.
Please ignore. Of course now I find the information
https://samsungshop.zendesk.com/hc/en-gb/sections/201743575-Samsung-Upgrade-Programme-FAQs
Good to know. Just received an email
Returning your old phone.
Hello, can you tell me how the swap over works when it come to upgrading please? Do you get a chance to use the transfer cable between phones or must you return your old phone first.
Many thanks
Rob

Nougat update UK unlocked s7 Edge

Has anyone with a UK unlocked s7 Edge got the Nougat update via OTA? It just keeps telling me that my phone is upto date!

It's likely you have an 'XEU' device then. Same boat as me. There is currently no information available as to when this version of the s7 edge is going to receive the update. But if you're impatient you can flash the 'BTU' version over it (a quick search of this forum will uncover all the instructions needed for this). Noting that there are many reports of unfavourable battery life post flash. It's disappointing our devices have been ignored but I'd wager the wait is related to bugs within the original roll out. Yet, with no official word from Samsung, thats purely speculation on my part.
Thanks, how can I tell if I've got an XEU device? I brought the phone brand new from car phone warehouse.

Yeah CPW = XEU
But you can use this app to check https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vndnguyen.phoneinfo&hl=en_GB
Thanks, I'm gutted, that was the whole point of buying an unlocked phone and not a provider locked one.

Same theory here.
I bought mine from the Samsung Experience Store thinking at first it was Samsung. Only to realise once I'd paid for it it wasn't Samsung at all as the invoice has CPW on it.
Apparently from an email ive received from CPW they advised from the 1/3/17 Samsung are taking those Stores over.
That said if I buy the s8 or Note 8 next I'll buy direct from the Samsung Store online.
I was on the Beta, had beta 5 and then discovered I was on XEU.
So I didn't get the OTA update either.
I ended up flashing a stock BTU update from SamMobile. It's what I'd highly recommend.
It just works and if your device was never rooted (like mine), you still get OTA updates
I'm on Three and my Nougat update came through Tuesday evening.
I am on Three as well, had mine on Wednesday but since updating I cant charge my phone with the cable. Got to take it to a service center to be looked at.

I bought mine from carphonewarehouse in early February 2017. Phone info says the CSC is BTU even though CPW and XEU are in the available CSC codes. I have not flashed any fw or done anything to change the CSC.
The same day I bought it it updated itself to Nougat OTA.
How does the phone decide which of the multi CSCs available it's going to use when you first boot it up? Could it depend on the SIM inserted?
Why is mine BTU when the OP's is CPW when both phones have come from the carphonewarehouse?
I can't answer that definitively. Mine was bought not long post release, when it appears all CPW s7 edges were XEU.
But perhaps they have started shipping out BTU exclusively in recent times, even to resellers. At this point I'm just speculating.
I had EVR one but flashed to BTU and got the OTA update (17th January)
So it's just a case of waiting then as I don't want to root and flash.

S8 Active and using it in germany. Possible? Problemes?

Hi everyone!
I am from germany and right now I own a Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo and wanna upgrade. So I thought of importing a unlocked S8 Active (the outdoor version of the normal S8) to my country. I will use it for geocaching things and in this case it should be nearly perfekt (big accu, waterressist, ....)
I don't like the normal version cause I don't like the curved display. Think the active version should be the better choice for me.
Will it work there in german language and will it get updates here in germany? OTA or so? Or will I have problems with it. Maybe I had to use Samsung Updater (Smart Switch) on PC but better is it when OTA would work here too.
Can I repair it in my country, when something goes wrong or must I send it back to the USA for repair? It is cheaper to repair it here and sending it back it is maybe more expensive than it could be.
Maybe someone can answer my view questions, cause this is nearly the smartphone I like, but it is not officially sold here from samsung, so I had to import it.
Greetings!
I would say .. DONT
A Samsung update killed all my sensors. and no warranty here.
Read here :- https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/s8-update-messed-sensors-t3812085
There are thousands of users with this problem. for their S8 S8+ Note 8 etc
Stay away from Samsung. Their products are not what they appear, starts deteriorating and slows down. a lot.
I know you are not interested in the Curved screen but just my thoughts. The curve screen is more of a problem than its looks. Many apps do not respond well with the edge touch. for a Tempered Glass you need to pay a lot else they do not work well with the curved screen.
Advice
Stay away from S8 and if you want S8 buy it locally else Samsung has devised up ways to mess your phone pretty bad.
Buy something from your area that would help you and those are better in Utility and 1/4th the price.
Language and updates should not be a problem.
I got some import phones and it wasn't a hard deal to change the system language to german or other.
OTA should work too, because the phone doesn't care if you're in Germany, China, USA or elsewhere. As long as it can connects to the servers, there should be a update possible.
For the repair part, I can't tell you a thing.
I'd say, that you ask all the questions to Samsung's support.
According to frequencycheck, LTE and all other will work just fine in Germany.
Only thing I see is, that it will come with tons of bloatware, which you can (mostly) just deactivate but not uninstall.

Sadly the two stuffs you stated ain't accurate.
Samsung has messed up my phone with their latest update.. There are thousands of customers who are facing this with their s8 / s8+ and Note 8
Normally anyone with commonsense would know that an update is pushed, only when a device is compatible. But the service center guys shamelessly answer that this is country specific
Which brings up the second question.
You may ask whom so ever. SHAME sung doesn't have International Warranty.. I brought this from the Middle East.
Couldn't sell it as I was relocating ... now just because of a Samsung update, mine and thousand other phones are messed up

That's more than sad for you.
But for me, I never had a single problem with my S8 (newest update) or with the Samsung support (and I consider myself as a heavy user, who modifies and complains a lot).
Also you are the first one S8 user, whom I heard of, that there is a problem with the phone. In addition, I could not find any regional (Germany) information or bigger complaints of the latest update. Several of my family members have no problems, not a single of the ones you stated in your original post. FYI, no one of them flashed other CSC or things like that.
THAT may be a country specific problem (as you stated in another post of you, that your s8 is from middle East imported to India).
So your service center guys are correct, that some things are country related like date of a new update, push service etc. But, the phone will be an import just like yours and I think it should get updates, at least via pc (smart switch).
I think, if the OP would buy an unlocked version, he wouldn't have to flash other CSC or anything just to get it working (but again, better ask Samsung support).
So please, discuss your anger and warn other (potential) users in your topic and not under someone, who just wants to know if the S8 active will function it germany (which it should).

Thanks LOL
To the OP
There is a link in this forum itself about the problems I just mentioned

US customers
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/forums/v3_1/forumtopicpage/board-id/GS8QA/thread-id/35901/page/5
The Service Center head here himself disclosed that there are many many such cases of the same issue after Update. All S8 S8+ and Note 8.
Some Handsets were from Middle East, Most of them were from US and they had even come across those from S Korea too.
As others have already told you, OTA updates etc. won't pose a problem, though if the S8 Active you're buying isn't from Europe (e.g. the US version) you usually have to use it with a SIM card in the corresponding country, meaning you'd have to have a 5 minute call with any old person in the US, otherwise the phone won't accept your SIM and you will be unable to place calls etc. in Europe/Germany.
So just keep that in mind.
Hi from Europe
Can someone with s8 ACTIVE confirm if the latest update messed up their phone. And if so please attach the screenshots where I can see which update this is.
I'm buying used S8 ACTIVE from US and I would like to check if the user didn't updated their phone yet ?
Tnx

When is the March security update coming to unlocked Snapdragon variants?

Again Europe is getting the update way before the US market. Any word when to expect the update here?
No word yet and Samsung hasn't put out a schedule! hopefully soon...
At this point they should wait for April patch... But what matters most to me is resolving network bugs with Sprint + T-Mobile. Still, isn't it odd that even the U1 S10s don't have the March patch?
I don't care about the security update, I want the fixes, like the deep sleep bug, etc. So tired of feeling like a red-headed stepchild.

I had an U1 S9+ in the US and it always came last for any updates. Use to be the first to get them but not anymore. It took about 3 weeks to get the Pie update from Oreo after everyone else got it.

ATT has some network issues also.. I'm having to restart my s10+ one to two times a day just to get signal back. Unlocked S10+
Damn, even though these phones are made in vietnam yet they still havent released any update for vietnam region (exynos)
My Unlocked UK gets updated pretty much on day 0, but you Americans have to suffer waiting for your lazy providers to bloat your firmware first, not only that, that's also another reason of why you can't unlock your bootloader, it really sucks.
Samsung's update schedule is totally ignored by most providers worldwide, some S9 units are getting Pie just now, so there's no way to really know when anything is coming to anyone.

Mine is unlocked, not a provider phone. Yet still ignored by Samsung. I love Samsung phones, I always get unlocked versions, but this is absolutely ridiculous. One thing about iPhones that makes me jealous.
April....day 5....no March update. How is it acceptable to have a flagship phone, where Samsung committed to monthly updates, and to be a month late right out of the gate?
My phone runs amazing. I'm not sweating it.
I am still waiting also.
It should arrive for U1 once all US carriers update their U models. I think Verizon & ATT haven't updated yet, will check later.

Finally! Thanks for heads up
I got a prompt for a biometrics update (Canada unlocked version) yet when I try to install it, it fails. Had to remove Secure Folder it seems, but then the notification disappeared completely. No more notification and biometrics still the same older version. I love how good Samsung is at rolling out updates. I will probably never get this now.
No March update either, a md it's mid April now.
Hopefully the biometrics update(s) will come soon for the snapdragon unlocked us version
Just received the unlocked March update... Yippee ???????

Update AT&T S10+ No Longer On AT&T Carrier (SM-P975U)

Sorry in advance if this question has already been asked, but I couldn't find anything on my own.
A few months ago I bought a refurbished S10+ (SM-P975U) on Newegg, which I later learned was originally from AT&T. I was a little spooked that it didn't have any updates to install when I got it, but I didn't get concerned until recently when I learned that AT&T branded phones only receive updates when they're on the AT&T network. The last update I have is from August 2021. As of writing this, I believe there is a November update.
I have some experience using TWRP to flash custom ROMS, so my first thought was just to flash the stock OS without the AT&T branding. Thing is, I'm hesitant to mess with my S10+ because it's my main phone, let alone the fact that I don't even know if this is possible.
Is there anything else I can do? Connecting to AT&T isn't really an option since I live in Canada, and I'd really rather not trip Knox or risk bricking my main phone.
Updates tend to break AT&T phones especially older ones. My AT&T Note 10+ hasn't been updated in 2 years. It's current OS load is over 1.5 yo, still fast and stable.
With Pie and above security isn't an issue unless you do something stupid.
If your firmware is fulfilling its mission, let it be.
