Will other custom roms work on the G900M? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, kinda new here so if someone has asked this question before and you guys have answered him/her, just point in the right direction.
So just like the title states i have a Samsung Galaxy S5 G900M , its rooted and its actually running Resurrection Remix 6.0.1, but when i try to look for a new rom on here, i can never find the right one, its always some other variant.
So my questions is, will they all work on G900M or do i have to look for one specifically? I didnt have this confusion when i was working on my i9500. So dont get frustrated with me.
Thanks a bunch.
JGSS

It is probably possible to run other devices Roms on your device does the g900m come bootloader unlocked or did you have to unlock the bootloader

Whats different between i9500/i9505 and i9505G ?

HI. I want to buy unlocked s4 for my g-f and dont know what i should choose and why. Whats different ... ?
Me too... just got one from tmobile.. how do i know what version do i have?
Thanks you

i9500 is the exynos octa core version without 4G. i9505 is the Snapdragon quad core version with 4G enabled. The i9505G has different software from Google, but has same internals as i9505.
Id say if you do not care about developer support or 4G, go for the i9500. Otherwise, go for the i9505 which is the more popular variant.

Samsung Galaxy S4 USA variants come with LTE 4G network and is available on different carriers across the US.
SGH-M919 – for T-Mobile USA (so you got a Tmobile version)

Could you ask yourself WHY there are different sections? Yes, young Einstein, because the ROM's are not compatible without messing with repartitioning and bootloader change.

You shall be on the subforum appropriate for your device. I would recommend you to search the XDA forums (there is a special tool for it). If you are unable to do such (may be complicated and frustrating especially if you did not graduated from the Primary School) use this link

Hi,
Unfortunately it's not recommended to try repartitioning your bootloader, after all it can brick your device. And because of such there's no working on this area. I wouldn't risk try installing a 9505 ROM on 9505G, but you can ask for better feedback on the Q&A thread .

OK, so you have opposite situation.
In that case you need to do the flashing with the repartitioning. There are several threads related with that, even in this subforum.
If I'd be you, I'd use the PIT file (if your phone is 16GB edition, if not, do not hesitate to find another one by yourself) fro the thread: "Unroot/Unbrick, Flash official stock firmware on Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 & I9505 " which can be easily found, with the ROM of the choice.
Reason of the repartitioning: the google edition has completely different partitions size, including the system partition (google edition is smaller), therefore the flash will be unsuccessful in best case.
Worse case scenario: you will have bricked phone.

[Q] Sprint s4 l720t root

Hi this is my first post, don't know if I'm in the right section.
Just received a new phone s4 for my daughter and I received L720T, is there a root to get free hotspot?
Been looking but can't find one for L720T version. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks
Side question. Did your daughter get the L720T version through a sprint store or online?, I ask because I am trying to get my sister the T version and will be going to a sprint store tomorrow.
Back to your question: I believe some members here were able to root with cf-auto root by chainfire. The one meant for the SPH-L720.

CF-autoroot will root the phone, but as of right now, no one has created a hotspot mod for the "T" version. Crawj made all the original hotspot mods for the S-4 but he hasn't made one for awhile. Another user "fgr" made the mod for the MK2 version. These mods are not interchangeable and are version specific so if you install one that is not for your software version you will brick the phone. I would PM fgr and ask him if he can mod the hotspot for the 720T. He will probably need you to send him the 2 files so he can mod them.
An alternative method is to install the xposed framework installer and then download wanum from the playstore. Wanum has a tethering provision option to unlock the hotspot. You can also customize the stock rom with wanum so it is a worthwhile install.

Are you serious? Why would jrkruse post it in this thread if it didnt work WITH OUR DEVICE, ON VERIZON IN THE USA.
OF COURSE IT DOES. Verizon ONLY operates in the USA.
He took the latest stock deodexed L rom from the international thread and MADE IT COMPATIBLE for us VERIZON USA USERS IN THE USA VERIZON S5 THREAD AND POSTED IT HERE.
He would not have posted it here if it wasnt for our device. How is that hard to understand? There is only ONE Verizon carrier.
I really do not see how this is confusing at all.

he would not post a rom that didnt work.. that would be pretty rediculous if it didnt work on verizon in the usa.. thered be no reason to even post it.
I assume he changed everything necessary to make it function on verizon in the usa (only place verizon operates)
and the original question clearly asks if it will work on our device which is how i answered it and that it will.

Successful Root?

Hey guys, another question here.
Ive been watching arters thread for some time now and i have yet to see anyone there post with the model [SM-G928P]. This model pertains to the sprint verison i currently hold but was wondering if anyone else with this model has been able to somehow root the phone?
Completely dumbfounded at how many models and versions sammy has released with this phone. Or maybe im the unlucky one and have the only P version in the world
Not complaining but was just curious is all.
arter97 said that he won't support Sprint.
Also as far as I know Sprint and Verizon has locked bootloader and when you root the phone, you won't be able to turn it on again.

U Firmware Step By Step

Would Anyone Like To Post Detailed Instructions On How To Flash The "U FIRMWARE"? .. Also (if possible) could someone include all the necessary files & give any details on the firmware (i.e. Pros or Cons).. I've seen it mentioned in a few other threads, with some people making claims that it's much smoother, also the root is more stable on that firmware. But I can't seem to find a dedicated thread on it. So if there's one out there post the link or feel free to comment instructions, any useful instructions will be added to the OP

Hi, here's something from our friends with a Verizon s7 edge, they've written a step by step on how to flash the U firmware and what to do afterwards. What You and us t-mobile users need to flash is SM- G935U (TMO region) firmware which u can find on sammobile.com. Please read the instructions carefully and best of luck with flashing. Cheers!

Keep in mind there's also a lot in here that doesn't pertain especially if you don't need root so be careful people, this as Mag says is for Verizon but the process is the same just make sure you have the T-Mobile files if on T-Mobile. You can download at SamMobile I have a SM-G935T which is now a G35U with the new modem APK1 and have wifi calling and VOLTE in my mobile network settings and ZERO bloat which is why U firmware is desired. It doesn't have any carrier bloat because it's not for any carrier so none have installed all their bloat so it's very fast. You will lose root and everything but can redo it and reroot also.. just make sure you're getting the right files and not flashing VZW on to T-Mobile etc etc. I ALMOST did then realized lol. I Got excited. I was never going to root so none if that mattered but I tried it and after all the suggested tweaks and fixed it still ran unacceptable for me so I'm not rooted at all now. Too buggy and too many weird FCs and errors/bugs so I factory rest and flashed U and new modem and my phone has never been faster even when rooted and CPU setting tweaked etc. (Too many bugs as stated)

No because you're flashing an official firmware not a rom. No root and won't trip Knox as other have reported. This is true for all variants since it's an official firmware.

Prob not. Many people including me have done ALL of the post root modifying to make it run better when rooted with very little success. I tried every single post root method to try and get it stable and nothing made a difference and if it did it sure wasn't stable anyways. So bad that I Reodined the entire thing and started fresh and didn't root. The root is very unstable and simply not worth it. I don't need root for anything I care about anyway and my S7 Edge is plenty fast. and running the U firmware there's no bloat except like 2-3 apps which I can live with and that was one major reason to root anyway (to delete the bloat) so meh to root for me.... If you read back many have reported this. I don't need nor want root and when I saw how bad it ran I immediately re did it all. Now it's lightning fast, I get amazing LTE speeds because if the APK1 MODEM and I'm in one if the 319 cities supporting the 4x4 MIMO LTE that the APJ1 Takes advantage of. My LTE is faster than most people's wifi. So I recommend d regarding the Odin and forgetting about root. It's just too buggy and I'm by no way a noob. Been here fir 10 years so I know what I'm doing and I couldn't get it stable enough even applying every single post root suggestion. It ran like crap and wasn't even usable unfortunately. No offense to the root team whatsoever they achieved root and kudos to them it's just not established enough to be a daily driver sorry to say.
My latest LTE speed abiut 20 mins ago. Not wifi....LTE..LOL it's amazing if yoyre in T-Mobile and you're in one if the cities supporting it. I imagine everywhere in the US will sooner or later it most cities. It's relatively new but I'm getting speeds unheard of. Before this I was getting like 10 mbps download and 8 Mbps upload
Not it's more like 6p-70 and 40-70 depending in where in my city I am. It varies deoending on how close to towers and what not you are if course. But damn it's fast.. wow

is there a way to install this U firmware and then simply root it and not install all the other junk? I love it running U stock with the new modem because it HAULS ass, but I want to root so I can edit the build.prop and since you have to be rooted that's hay I ask. But the root causes all kinds of issues and post -root stuff needs to happen to get it even stable which none worked for me, a few did but it ran horrible so I immediately returned to stock and redid the U firmware. so is the something like a way to just root for file access only without it modifying anything else? I doubt it but don't know much abut the U firmware except it runs amazing until rooted at least from everything I'm reading. a couple peeps claim there's is running amazing even rooted but I have doubts...mine ran like total crap even after applying all the tweaks and kernel settings with Trickster and the like (which I know how to use very well and bought it and have owned and used it for years....any ideas? I want to edit the lcd from 640 to about 580 is all and don't want to root if it's going to bork everything up again...

Hi -
I am a person that just has to have his phone rooted. Dont ask me why, but I do. And I love custom ROMS. Since I do not really see any custom ROMS for the S7 yet,
I will settle for just rooting my S7, I was hopping someone would be kind enough to point me to the correct files needed to ROOT my phone and maybe a small odin walkthrough.
Phone info:
Galaxy S7 SM-G935T 6.0.1
Baseband G935TUVU4APK1
Build Number MNB29M.G35TUVU4APK1
Also ... what about TWRP support ? I want to be able to nandroid backup. Is there a version of TWRP out yet for the S7 ?
Thanks all !!

Hi? Is it possible to downgrade to PB5 from the U firmware? I learnt latest stock got bootloader locked, so can't downgrade

is there a way to install this U firmware and then simply root it and not install all the other junk?
TIA

Follow the instructions in the O.P. of the post-root issues *exactly*. Don't skip anything and don't add anything. Trickster is not listed in it. I followed it exactly and my rooted U just plain smokes!

Since I do not really see any custom ROMS for the S7 yet
Also ... what about TWRP support ? I want to be able to nandroid backup. Is there a version of TWRP out yet for the S7 ?

The answer to both of these is that since the bootloader is locked, you can't install custom recoveries which makes custom Roms a lot harder (but not impossible!) There's two that are in the Roms subforum (TEK and Echoe) but I've personally found stock U firmware + root to be the fastest/most stable.

Hi -
I am a person that just has to have his phone rooted.

Is your reason for "have to have root" for a specific reason or no? This root us really laggy and buggy as hell so if I were you I wouldn't do it. There's no Roms really. Well two I think but it's going to be more if a headache than the benefit of root. No one "has" to have root. What do you need that's so important by rooting. That's silly....

What fails,? What happens? Details...which files did you use from where and what fails at what spot in the process?

Please provide more info what phone are you flashing. Where did you get the files, are you flashing the home CSC or other one what's exactly happening. Fail is too vague to help you fix.

I'm not sure bud. I LOVE the U firmware and the APK1 modem for Tmobile have made my LTE VERY fast and the U firmware as well with ZERO bloat. I wouldn't downgrade anyway but can't answer your question, I simply don't know. Are you on ATT or something? I haven't heard of that firmware even...but I've been on Tmobile for about 6 years or so...
