Would Anyone Like To Post Detailed Instructions On How To Flash The "U FIRMWARE"? .. Also (if possible) could someone include all the necessary files & give any details on the firmware (i.e. Pros or Cons).. I've seen it mentioned in a few other threads, with some people making claims that it's much smoother, also the root is more stable on that firmware. But I can't seem to find a dedicated thread on it. So if there's one out there post the link or feel free to comment instructions, any useful instructions will be added to the OP

Hi, here's something from our friends with a Verizon s7 edge, they've written a step by step on how to flash the U firmware and what to do afterwards. What You and us t-mobile users need to flash is SM- G935U (TMO region) firmware which u can find on sammobile.com. Please read the instructions carefully and best of luck with flashing. Cheers!

Mine is model SM-G35T, would the T-Mobile USA version of SM-G935U still work with mine?
Thank you.

Yeah it will but you need to find the right one on sammobile. The one for G9535T TMO region next to itself. The the rest of the procedure is the same as described in the post i shared. I will it leave it to you to do some research on your own and find the right files. Cheers!
Hey all, best place for U firmware is THEANDROIDSOUL.COM . they also have all other Samsung firmwares. So good flashing
Does it require root to flash U on the tmo variant?
Does it trip Knox?
Thanks

Keep in mind there's also a lot in here that doesn't pertain especially if you don't need root so be careful people, this as Mag says is for Verizon but the process is the same just make sure you have the T-Mobile files if on T-Mobile. You can download at SamMobile I have a SM-G935T which is now a G35U with the new modem APK1 and have wifi calling and VOLTE in my mobile network settings and ZERO bloat which is why U firmware is desired. It doesn't have any carrier bloat because it's not for any carrier so none have installed all their bloat so it's very fast. You will lose root and everything but can redo it and reroot also.. just make sure you're getting the right files and not flashing VZW on to T-Mobile etc etc. I ALMOST did then realized lol. I Got excited. I was never going to root so none if that mattered but I tried it and after all the suggested tweaks and fixed it still ran unacceptable for me so I'm not rooted at all now. Too buggy and too many weird FCs and errors/bugs so I factory rest and flashed U and new modem and my phone has never been faster even when rooted and CPU setting tweaked etc. (Too many bugs as stated)

No because you're flashing an official firmware not a rom. No root and won't trip Knox as other have reported. This is true for all variants since it's an official firmware.

Prob not. Many people including me have done ALL of the post root modifying to make it run better when rooted with very little success. I tried every single post root method to try and get it stable and nothing made a difference and if it did it sure wasn't stable anyways. So bad that I Reodined the entire thing and started fresh and didn't root. The root is very unstable and simply not worth it. I don't need root for anything I care about anyway and my S7 Edge is plenty fast. and running the U firmware there's no bloat except like 2-3 apps which I can live with and that was one major reason to root anyway (to delete the bloat) so meh to root for me.... If you read back many have reported this. I don't need nor want root and when I saw how bad it ran I immediately re did it all. Now it's lightning fast, I get amazing LTE speeds because if the APK1 MODEM and I'm in one if the 319 cities supporting the 4x4 MIMO LTE that the APJ1 Takes advantage of. My LTE is faster than most people's wifi. So I recommend d regarding the Odin and forgetting about root. It's just too buggy and I'm by no way a noob. Been here fir 10 years so I know what I'm doing and I couldn't get it stable enough even applying every single post root suggestion. It ran like crap and wasn't even usable unfortunately. No offense to the root team whatsoever they achieved root and kudos to them it's just not established enough to be a daily driver sorry to say.
My latest LTE speed abiut 20 mins ago. Not wifi....LTE..LOL it's amazing if yoyre in T-Mobile and you're in one if the cities supporting it. I imagine everywhere in the US will sooner or later it most cities. It's relatively new but I'm getting speeds unheard of. Before this I was getting like 10 mbps download and 8 Mbps upload
Not it's more like 6p-70 and 40-70 depending in where in my city I am. It varies deoending on how close to towers and what not you are if course. But damn it's fast.. wow

is there a way to install this U firmware and then simply root it and not install all the other junk? I love it running U stock with the new modem because it HAULS ass, but I want to root so I can edit the build.prop and since you have to be rooted that's hay I ask. But the root causes all kinds of issues and post -root stuff needs to happen to get it even stable which none worked for me, a few did but it ran horrible so I immediately returned to stock and redid the U firmware. so is the something like a way to just root for file access only without it modifying anything else? I doubt it but don't know much abut the U firmware except it runs amazing until rooted at least from everything I'm reading. a couple peeps claim there's is running amazing even rooted but I have doubts...mine ran like total crap even after applying all the tweaks and kernel settings with Trickster and the like (which I know how to use very well and bought it and have owned and used it for years....any ideas? I am a person that just has to have his phone rooted. Dont ask me why, but I do. And I love custom ROMS. Since I do not really see any custom ROMS for the S7 yet,
I will settle for just rooting my S7, I was hopping someone would be kind enough to point me to the correct files needed to ROOT my phone and maybe a small odin walkthrough.
Phone info:
Galaxy S7 SM-G935T 6.0.1

The answer to both of these is that since the bootloader is locked, you can't install custom recoveries which makes custom Roms a lot harder (but not impossible!) There's two that are in the Roms subforum (TEK and Echoe) but I've personally found stock U firmware + root to be the fastest/most stable.

Is your reason for "have to have root" for a specific reason or no? This root us really laggy and buggy as hell so if I were you I wouldn't do it. There's no Roms really. Well two I think but it's going to be more if a headache than the benefit of root. No one "has" to have root. What do you need that's so important by rooting. That's silly....

Hey guys, another question here.
Ive been watching arters thread for some time now and i have yet to see anyone there post with the model [SM-G928P]. This model pertains to the sprint verison i currently hold but was wondering if anyone else with this model has been able to somehow root the phone?
Completely dumbfounded at how many models and versions sammy has released with this phone. Or maybe im the unlucky one and have the only P version in the world
Not complaining but was just curious is all.
arter97 said that he won't support Sprint.
Also as far as I know Sprint and Verizon has locked bootloader and when you root the phone, you won't be able to turn it on again.

Sprint can be rooted. It is not yet. See Sprint Note 5 dev thread for the "possibilities " The sprint s6e+ phone should have the same rootabilty as the Sprint note 5.

Thats sad to hear. Also i thought it was AT&T and Verizon with the locked bootloaders? Or was i mistaken?
Oh yeah sorry.
arter97 said he doesn't want to develop it for CDMA Devices, which is Sprint. So, someone MAY come up with root.
Hi
your answer is right and i am agree with this.Thank you for your informative task .

Has anyone been successful with rooting the Canadian variant using SamPWND method?
I've been too busy at work to try myself up to this point but would like to root and use the XAC or CHR CSC firmware for the system.img.ext4.
This has been asked in the SamPWND root post but answers are vague at best.
I am too is eager to root my s8 sm-g950w from Rogers, I don't care about unlocking the bootloader or custom roms or any in-depth customisation, I'm fine with Samsung's skin. I just want root access to use things like "freedom" for in app purchases or "gameguardian" and other apps that benefit from root.
Hope there is a method soon
Same here I am also wondering if there is a root for the Canadian version of the s8. And maybe sometime a boot loader unlock as well

It is a sm-g950u. Look at the fine print on the lower back of your phone.
sorry that is what i mean to say sm-g950u but im trying this for the sm-g950w with telus as the carrier
The actual root method (SamPWND) will work but whether I can use the Canadian firmware is what I'm wondering. I don't want to use the 950U or U1.
I'm going to try but it'll be another week before I'm home and can do it.

Thanks for letting me know. Just downloaded the Telus firmware and have been thinking about giving it a go. Will probably break down and use a US firmware at some point here. I thought I had made my peace with not having root but seeing that people have Xposed working too is pushing me over the edge to try. Not that keen on 80% battery though. Got spoiled by the battery life on my Pixel XL before it died and find I have to charge my S8 quite a bit more with fully working battery.
Hi all. Yeh the telus image did not work for me. Either. What I ended up doing to still have root is not to flash the image with flash fire. Basicly after I got super su on my phone I stopped

What kind of issues do you have after rooting?? Everything all good just following the guide?
Yeh I unrooted yesterday because it was to glitchy for me some apps I use like air audio did not work well and a few others. and like I said earlier the telus firmware gave that locked phone error so i kept the modified firmware on it overall I don't recommend if you are given that error and using just the modified firmware. and on top of it the 80% battery was a issue also.

My understanding is that we can use the 950U1 firmware to do the second method where root is more stable but I haven't tried it yet.
So your saying we just need to wait for another method?? Glitchy root isn't worth it. Sounds like there's way too many issues not to mention it being too unstable

What's wrong with using the U1 firmware for flashing the second part?
It's an unbranded/unbloated version which has all the US and Canada frequencies.
You can dial *#243203855# (or make a shortcut to the activity Preconfig with ShortcutMaster) and select XAA or XAC then select "Do not change QA" which will lock in the CSC settings permanently without switching based on the inserted sim.
As far as waiting for another method, probably not a good idea since the US root took months and many devs to come alive.
If you do Part 2 with the U1 firmware it shouldn't be too glitchy. The 80% battery remains. There's a fix for the green screen issue.
I'm not sure what is lost by switching to US firmware from the Canadian firmware, if anything.

hey everyone, so ive always at some point when time permitted ended up rooting and putting a custom rom on my phone. So im fairly familiar with unlocking boot loaders and rooting phones and so i started with my sm-g935v. Its terribly laggy and I just threw Oreo on my 2nd device a nexus 6 and its super fast. The lag is killing me. First i knew i had to root so I found a method using Odin flashing a CF root. Boom now when it boots it shows an unlocked lock and says custom. Great, moving on to installing a customer recovery like twrp im finding out no you cant because the bootloader is locked? is this true? is that icon just an indication i modified the system that and thats it. Anyway, reading more seems like this engineering root caused it to be even more laggy and if i turn on wifi forget it, super laggy.
I see some people doing modified stock roms that debloat but are still plague with lag from the root? Does this all add up correctly? Am i able to undo this CF root and just flash stock vzw back so it doesnt show custom when it boots? I was thinking of just trashing it and getting a pixel 2 but i like tinkering and definitely cant handle not finishing a job. This would be my first failed attempt at putting a custom rom on a phone.
TLDR: is it still true to this day i can only root but not unlock bootloader, install custom recovery and put say lineageos on my sm-935v ? the feels man...
Yeah, it's very locked down. We can't unlock the bootloader and we can't root without lag...
Hey guys. First post. Be nice. ?
I AM NOT A DEVELOPER. I FOUND THIS BY ACCIDENT.
I hated how my S7 Edge G935V worked with the engboot. So I stopped using the phone. Figured I'd play around with again and flashed the G935U firmware. After that I rooted by flashing the engboot thinking it may be smoother than on the g935v firmware. Obviously, I was disappointed. In a last ditch desperate attempt I flashed the stock BL file from the G935U firmware and lo and behold, it worked. I have NO LAG AND ROOT!
EDIT
When I flashed the BL file I checked "phone bootloader update" on Odin.

I am on this rom right now: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...sungpay-norootrequiredtoinstallorrun-t3748717
It is unrooted until you want to make changes, you apply root, make changes, and turn off root and you can continue using apps that won't work with root. Plus you don't get the root lag because you won't be on root all the time.
I will miss custom roms, but this is a great alternative.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe the lag is from the eng boot, not root access. Correct? If so, who cares if you can root and unroot?

I had asked in another thread when I saw this post, can you please post links to the DL file so we can test this or a more specific instruction set on how you did it so i can be duplicated?

I have used the firmware files from this post on xda.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/at...7-0-g935uoym4bqd2-4-11-17-g935u-t3616834/amp/
Download G935U ODIN Firmware
Thanks @MafiaIlluminati
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120745969
I used PrinceComsys Odin.
Download Link.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AQuCcQ3MFskTc4yj_WODUYsZ1DGdHaKT/view?usp=drivesdk
1. I flashed my g935v with these firmware files. (I was already rooted with ENGBOOT so I checked "Phone Bootloader Update" in odin).
2. After that, I flashed the engboot.
Engboot Download
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1neJqdeOaxWklBgREfzoh6NVroa_I6mTl/view?usp=drivesdk
3. Then I rooted. Download the file below.
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=889764386195909311
Then follow this method from @jrkruse. (Just the root part).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-s7-edge/how-to/root-method-nougat-t3566978
4. Then I flashed the BL file in the BL slot from the g935u firmware with odin and checked "Phone Bootloader Update"
Congratulations! You are ROOTED WITH NO LAG!
I would love to see reports from others who were able to do this successfully, and what their experience is like afterward.

Somebody on another thread is testing. He made a mistake last night as I guess I wasn't clear in my instructions. I think he will give it another go.
I have been using this this phone for 2 days and it is AWESOME! updated all stock apps to s8 apps, deodexed with lucky patcher, installed xposed, and gravity box works beautifully. All will absolutely NO LAG! Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

I have done this as well and it works fine but I am getting conflicted speed tests. I am going to try some different CPU configurations to see if I can't get it running smoother. I really do think @ars18 is on to something here.
These were some of my first results but we are messaging back and forth to make sure the directions i was able to follow and that i am not messing anything up. I am a simple man and not as smart as most you ?.
I've just flashed back to stock and set my phone how I wanted it because of the lag from the ENG boot.img...now I find this and I'm tempted to wipe/redo everything... Subscribed to this thread so I can read more thoroughly when I get to work on Monday.
After new BL
This is the screen shot after I flashed the suggested bootloader @ars18 suggested.

What app is that?
---------- Post added at 08:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:38 PM ----------
Nvm I found it. Did a test on stock rom/no root. Not bad results.
https://imgur.com/gallery/4DY9Mh0
***I've tried adding the picture as an attachment through the XDA app but it's giving me a bad request error so I just used imgur.
I flashed the full G935T Firmware to my Verizon S7 (G935V), and I've not had any problems, rooted or not. I'm only saying this because the verizon s7 device can actually accept any firmware designed for a US Galaxy S7. It isn't a secret or anything. I really have all 4 firmware files for the G935T installed to my G935V right now no questions asked in ODIN. It's been this way for like a year now. Full Operations, no bugs.
My question is, how is it that all the carriers colluded to lock the device down in the same way. Who is actually responsible for this? Can all 5 Firmware versions available to this device really be locked in the same manner with no loophole manageable? I don't get it.
It really makes me feel like there was an effort outside of the OEM's/Carriers to make sure the Galaxy Devices starting with the S6 would never fully be root-able. It makes me feel like when ChainFire gave up on Samsung, all of sudden the devices are no longer unlock-able like they used to be. Is this just coincidence in the order of events regarding root and newer devices?

Thats not a bad rating at all. When I was using the eng_bootload file it was down around 6 and my cpu was always running high. Battery was crap and phone got hot soo easy. If you want to include your image in the post all you need to do is wrap the img in the square brackets like other forums the [ and ]. (IMG "Image Info")http link here(/IMG) but instead of the half circle use the half square.
Crap I think I just confused everyone including myself. Anyhow there is also a paper clip icon you can upload images right to this site or there is an icon with a sun and mountains, that lets you embed images like below this writing.

Wait, is there no way to resize the image inside the BBCode? What is this vbulletin? Time to google I suppose. Sorry about the large image folks, I will try and have it fixed soon.
Not sure if u followed my method exactly. My phone is PERFECT
---------- Post added at 02:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:21 AM ----------
The reason why my method shouldn't work is because of the fact that doing this should make the phone unbootable. Usually the phone will recognize that it is played around with. That's why this is so awesome. STOCK AND ROOTED!
Just to make sure I understand this, you're using the stock Verizon firmware on the phone, but with the booloader from the unlocked firmware, and it works (and it has an unlocked bootloader)?
Is there a way to do this without wiping the phone (and having to reinstall all apps and settings)? Can that be done by using HOME_CSC instead of CSC?

I have the verizon g935v.
I'm using the stock unlocked version of the s7 edge firmware G935U. The flash the ENGBOOT and root. After that, flash the BL file from the unlocked firmware while checking "phone bootloader update" in Odin. Can't think of a way to do this without wiping.

Aha - so you're *not* using the Verizon firmware.
Hello everybody.
I have had my phone rooted for over a year now, however I would like to return to 7.0 stock and I am absolutely CLUELESS.
It says my build number is NRD90M.G935FXXU1DQBF - is that relevant? what firmware do i have to get? i dont care if it goes back to essentially being out of the box. I just want my basic phone back.
A simple guide would be great, please and thank you.
Install twrp recovery.Make a backup of your current software and then remove the whole system drive. After that search for your software 7.0.1 at that model number and download that zip file. Now install this zip file containing nougat through odin and you are good to go.

Samsung: We're patching SamFail.
Gavin: But I wanna roooooooot!
Melsbacksfriend: Don't worry, Gavin, I can help.
If you want to help me, then give me your email address. Mine is [email protected]. I bet that by that email address, you can tell that I like pokémon. I want this exploit to be called Submachine Gun 950u (as a pun with the model number that would work with any Samsung Galaxy S phone in case I want to make one for another phone like for example, Submachine Gun 930P for the sprint s7). I want the exploit to do more than just root your phone like partcyborg rom. Here are the things that I want it to do. Disable Knox, include Xposed, Have some humor involved (for example, a boot screen that shows a picture of an SMG, the number 950 and a Wii U:laugh, and improve battery life. I believe that we can do this if we work really hard and work together. I need your help because I'm only 16. There's no way I can do it by myself.
