[MODEM] Flash any current Pixel XL modem - Updated April 2017 - Google Pixel XL Guides, News, & Discussion

Flashing a new modem is easy and should not cause any issues.
It should be possible to flash any Pixel XL modem on any Pixel XL variant.
If you go to Settings | About Phone, you will see your current build number.
Mine is nof26vV. So the modem from my build will be labeled "v_modem.img" in the linked zip below.
I don't know how well or poor a Euro modem will work on North American/Verizon phones.
It is possible the Verizon modems are fine-tuned to work on Verizon networks.
It's also possible a Verizon phone may get better in-city performance with a non-Verizon modem at the expense of fringe network performance.
Modem's are a tossup. Try one and see if you like it better than what you have.
For most people, they should just stick with their current modems.
If you have good service right now then don't bother trying new modems.
1) Install your Google Android driver if you don't already have one:
https://developer.android.com/studio/run/win-usb.html#download
2) Download Google's ADB & Fastboot and extract the files to C:/platform-tools:
https://dl.google.com/android/repository/platform-tools-latest-windows.zip
4) Download the modem you want to C:/platform-tools (or wherever your Google ADB/fastboot folder ended up at).
5) Boot your phone into the bootloader and attach it to your PC.
6) Go to C:/platform-tools and right click any white spot and select option to "Open Command Window Here".
7) Type the command "fastboot flash modem modem.img".
C:\platform-tools>fastboot flash modem modem.img

Can anyone get me an account at Android File Host?
I submitted a while back and still waiting on them to approve.

I am interested to see if anyone has better or worse reception on Verizon with the L or V modem.

I'm in Australia, my phone originally came with NDE63H. I flashed NDE63P and worked fine.
I flashed NDE63X as that seemed to have the latest build date.
I have tested U, V, X modems running speedtest in same location and results are:
U = 30.72Mbps down / 25.91Mbps up
V = 28.72Mbps down / 18.23Mbps up
X = 42.17Mbps down / 27.30Mbps up
So it seems the "Verizon" modem has the best throughput for this even though I am not on Verizon.

Just flashed X modem on google store xl with verizon sim. The only thing I had to do different was put which slot the modem was in. I was getting an error when sending the img. I posted an image of what I did to get it to go thru. I am on V OTA with X modem.

this may seem dumb but im getting frustrated with adb, it seems hit or miss, i think it may be my drivers, how do i install the ones you posted

Does it work better than the X modem?
Edit: i meant V not X

I was able to test both for myself. Thank you for the guide.

Windows is a POS for ADB. My suggestion would be to dual boot a Linux distribution and set up the Android SDK there. You won't have issues anymore.

Not really sure. I have horrible signal at my house with verizon so i thought the modem configured by Verizon would help. I will test out and see if anything is different.

Would be interesting to test under controlled variables. For example at night time when there is less stress on the network etc .

Also needs to be multiple times per and then averaged.

Anyone testing modems should consider how well it works in two variables.
1) In an area with great reception.
2) In an area with poor reception.
You'll want to see how well #2 works, how much it flips back & forth between 2G, 3G, 4G. How well it can maintain one versus the other, etc.

I was able to successfully flash, I think. I am on Verizon, so I installed X. My build number still says P. Is this correct? Should it not say X now?

Sorry for the noob question but does flashing modem erase anything? Do I need to backup?

Thanks for the work and info on the modems. Worked like a champ.
Just out of curiosity, is there any way to check what modem you currently have on the phone? I mean aside from knowing what you flashed? Not a big deal just curious.
I updated to NDE63X and decided to flash the V modem to check out how well it works in poor reception areas like West Texas. No noticeable difference on speedtest sitting in front of cell booster. I'll report back after a day or two on the performance.

Do you have the appropriate driver files to go with the modem?

Why did you ask this Scott? Is it necessary to have the drivers along with the modems?

How do we check to see which slot we should flash the modem to as in a or b? Maybe this answer should be in op? Thanks for providing these

I've tried to flash the but I cannot open the zip file. Say file is damaged or corrupt.

No wifi, imei working for Moto G4 Plus XT1643(indian version)?

I was stuck on boot loop while rooting my Moto G4 Plus(Indian Version) so I downloaded the stock rom from File Factory where the file name was "G4_XT1641-XT1643_ATHENE_6.0.1_MPJ24.139-13.1_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml_2" for XT1643 version. While flashing through cmd there were some errors like "image not signed or corrupt " and I ignored them as I was half way through. After completing the process, my phone booted successfully. Now, I'm not able to Turn on my wifi, there is no imei so no cellular network, rest all everything is working fine. I googled a lot for Moto G4 Plus stock rom and everywhere I was redirected to only on link which was from File Factory. I even formatted the phone but there was not change, even re flashed the same rom but still no success. Please help, it was the first day of my phone and this happened

Looks like you flashed the wrong firmware at some point, your baseband is reporting the wrong version for example. Also, losing Wi-Fi and IMEI could be caused by the wrong firmware. What's also not good is that your device is reporting itself as a G4 rather than a G4 Plus... What firmware did you flash?
You could try flashing either this firmware (a signed stock firmware for XT 1643 devices) https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/moto-g4-plus-xt1643-updated-signed-t3460695 which is build number 139-63 or reflash the MPJ24.139-23.1 firmware (which I think is the Marshmallow firmware for Indian devices, I recommend that you verify this yourself before flashing). You may find the 23.1 firmware here in the XT1640 folder https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto G4 (Plus)/Stock/XT1640/ or check the links in this thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/help/skus-build-t3427601
I'm hoping that when you re-flash your Wi-Fi and IMEI are restored though no guarantees unfortunately, good luck either way.

Hmm, that's odd, as I've used that same signed ROM without losing imei. You've repeated the flash with a fresh copy of the stock ROM and you're on a XT1643? Can you describe what flashing you've performed? Did you also try rolling back to the earlier marshmallow build? (Again, please verify it's suitable for your device)
Lastly, can you reboot to your bootloader, plug your device into your computer and, in adb, execute 'fastboot getvar all' and post the output here? You may wish to remove your serial and imei from the output.
I hope others will be able to suggest steps, else it may require a service centre repair.
Is this helpful?

Thanks, looks like at some point your device was flashed with US firmware, the fingerprint reports as MPJ24.139-64, which is the latest US MM based firmware. The Indian stock ROM should be reporting 139-63/64.
You can try to re-flash using the Asia/Indian specific firmware, which given from your recent posting, I see you've been hunting, to try to revert back to your proper firmware. Again, as I've previously stated, should be the 139-23.1 build but again confirm this before flashing, and be aware this may not work still.

Doesn't really change matters - the installer still detects your device as athene, a G4 (rather than athene_f, a G4 Plus) and as such has flashed the G4 specific firmware onto your device.
I can't think of anything else to try except submitting your device for a service centre repair - this thread details a similar situation as yours: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/help/moto-g4-pluss-model-changed-to-g4-lost-t3496912 and looks like the outcome was to either have your device repaired or buy a new one.

Appears to be the same firmware that Indian XT1643 devices came with initially (and that's what I mentioned to you in a previous post too), but double check by searching on XDA and other platforms.

Also when unlocking the my device is there any issues I will run into, off the top of your heads?

I have bought mine unlocked and it is "retus". It has the MPJ 24.139-48 fw. Radio is M8952_70009.08.03.45R ATHENE_RETUSA_CUST.

Well, the -49 (not 9) it's not to be found on Moto US website or OTA, it just appeared here like magic and the change log (supposedly) here. So I am not sure about it's provenience and that the fixes are not a placebo.
Anyway, I understand the "itch" to install it. Because I am so tempted myself
LE: Well, I did it. Flashed the MJP24.139-49 on my XT1644, I am restoring the apps now from backup.
Are these TWRP flashable or fastboot?
Yes, fastboot is avail after you unlock the bootloader on Motorola site (loosing the warranty).
I have booted into TWRP to root (SU systemless method), but didn't actually flash it (because I don't plan to switch to CM at this point).

I'm already on CM but there's the bug preventing me from receiving calls unless I turn off LTE. I'd prefer to not lose root and don't have access to a PC, so if I can wipe and flash this in TWRP, that would be perfect.
No, you can't, you need the standard recovery to get back to stock. Then you can root as I said.
As for CM13, I had used it (beta and after that nightlies) on one of my previous devices (Asus, based on Snapdragon 615, 64 bit, 3GB RAM)... but it was too unstable to use as a daily phone. Always something to be "fixed" and very often something else was breaking. Disappointed...
Security Patch Level
Can someone who has flashed the -49 build confirm what the security patch level is? Just wondering if it's the same update India and Europe received OTA.

I haven't tried it yet but looks like branded and jan patch.
So it is not Nougat update and then we don't care anymore about this firmware?

I'm afraid it is MM. v20 firmware. At least jan sec patch. Hopefully it will come to unbranded roms too.
I can't believe how bad is LG aftersales. If I knew that before I would have bought a different brand.
If it is v20, it is MM.. Unfortunately. And now we have February, almost March so it will be nice if LG releases february update... I think it will be success if LG give us Nougat update at all...

Yeah, terrible LG support. Samsung officialy said that S6 And S Edge will get Android N in a few days/weeks.
I would recommend everyone to generate their unique unlock.bin file on LG G4 unlock website in case of that LG shutdown LG G4 software support completly or Its unlocking page. All of you can easily unlock bootloader and flash custom ROM then (Lineage 14.1 for example).
I have already done that unlocking procedure and I've installed root and twrp. So if LG closes the support, I'll be able to change ROM if necessary.

This might fix that error, but I haven't tried it yet.
There must be a reason why this KDZ cannot be installed normally.
After using 0x2000 fix KDZ flashed sucessfully. ROM has Android 6.0 with security patch from January 2017. It just has custom Vodafone boot animation, anything else stock, no bloat.

I just installed CP and BL files for G930T QE1 and AP and CSC files from here,
Rooted with mix of Goodroot by @Quickvic30 and Nougat_S7_Root_2_82_All_Carriers_V1.zip by @jrkruse (used supersu from v1.zip and root script from goodroot, edited root script lines to point to 2.82 apk), installed kernel auditor and set both cpu govenors to ONDEMAND, WOWWW, MY PHONE is completely **** free, rooted, faster than ever, no more lagging whatsoever, and just feeling so great of a device that I always knew it is but never felt by its performance.
Thanks @muniz_ri, He has always posted many firmwares that I used, I just was in process of upgrading my S7 yesterday, didnt see this updates posted by him and had to wait 4+ hours to get it from SamMobile, so I just uploaded to mega myself, hope it helps anyone.

Question: how do I de-bloat this sucker? I don't like all of these samsung apps on here...
I have not receive my S7 yet, waiting for them to ship to me. I am curious how did it go with you. Are you able to use Radio, VOLTE, wifi calling, mimo, etc. In regard to the Samsung Bloat, the only way is to root and uninstall. How's the performance and battery wise. Thanks for your feedback. . Hope to get my phone by next week.
OK, to clear some things up,
THIS IS OFFICIAL SAMSUNG.
I believe it does not trip knox if you are not planning to modify system. If you are please follow root guides.
BL and CP are from G930U, in my case I just flashed them and they are working more than good enough for my purposes, but if you prefer TMO ones, please grab them from https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...ware-g930t-qe1-android-7-0-5-27-2018-t3613122 thread by muniz and thank him for uploading them.
about usage: Battery life is excellent, however I am rooted so I had to flash engineering boot image, Which of course makes phone lag, but I took care of lag using Kernelauditor and setting CPU to ondemand. I let kernelauditor do its thing whenever I restart phone by leaving it alone for 2-3 minutes. after that I can not see any difference in performance of Stock 930U and rooted 930U. Adfree is a MUST for me so I love root. Try that and decide for yourself, Oh I love samsung feature that puts background apps to sleep. I think it has given huge battery boost and I go thru day with moderate usage easily.

If you want stock android experience, I did it on my galaxy s7edge, flashed the custom ROM from FlashFire. Please refer to this thread for more info: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-s7-edge/development/rom-t3572739
It totally worked for me and I am not going back, but I dont think that rom is available for S7, wouldn't hurt requesting if you really want it.
@nanunoran .....TY for clarifying the files. and ty for providing the link to the TMO modem.
Hello everyone, I am using G930T and already converted to G930U running QC1 (April 1. 2017) version of 7.1. What is the easiest way to update to QD2 with baseband ending in QC1? I prefer not having to re-install all apps and loose data as I have no root. Checking for updates doesn't bring up the notification that update is available for download/install. Thank You for your help.

Here is what i would do
1. Download matching G930U CP file from one of threads in this forum and odin it. So all of your firmware parts are now matched. You cannot get OTA update if firmware is hybrid.
2. Do OTA to update your G930U firmware to the latest one.
3. Then odin latest G930T CP file from another threads here in the forum.
Dont forget to wipe cache to avoid problems or issues.
Before you do everything above, i would say wait a day or two since another G930U is soon to be out anytime now. Check sammobile.
Hope above helps.

Fingerprint work for me.
Anyone having issue with samsung pay?
I did what the origin author did but without root (at least not yet).
Flash:
G930T QE1 for CP and BL files (CP_G930TUVS4BQE1 and BL_G930TUVS4BQE1)
G930T QE2 for AP and CSC (AP_G930UUEU4BQE2 and CSC_OYM_G930UOYM4BQE2)
I follow the instruction and able to flash U version with no issue. I have been using it since. I also flash the TMO version of the CP files and I am able to get VoLTE and WIFI calling. I did not experience any fingerprint issue or samsung pay issue.. However, My problem is that the U version camera does not have the shutter sound options to turn off. The Tmobile version have that option within the camera settings. Can I somehow get the TMO version of the camera app and odin it or sideload it. If so, where can I get it.
And to be quite honest, the TMO version doesn't really have that much bloatware in compare. Just a few TMO apps. Trust me, I use to be with ATT and their phones are bloat cancer.
@vinberry,
Which BL did you flash? Can you posh all the version of each file you flash with? thanks.
@gundamdx. I flashed the U version of BL, AP, CSC files as provided by @nanunoran and flashed the TMO version of the CP file. I have no problem with SPay. Also, if you are looking to unlock you sim, you need to do it while you are still in tmobile firmware and use their unlock app. The app doesn't work in the U firmware. It will indicated something like device not qualify to unlock. remember what I mentioned about the camera shutter sound if that's something that would bother you.

If you love that feature...check this out. This is the most current version that can be installed on our API 24 from apkmirror. When you install this on top of the existing device maintenance feature, it allows you to completely put just about any user app to sleep for good! It adds another section under "Battery" called "Always sleeping apps".
Description: "Select apps that will be put to sleep immediately when they aren't being used. Always sleeping apps will never run in the background. They may not receive updates or send you notifications"

LG Stylo 3 root

Hi. I just got an LG Stylo 3 on Virgin Mobile. Although I like this phone Id like to root it to have better functionality. Like to delete bloatware, and have ad-blockers.
Has anyong found root for the LG Stylo 3- LS777??
I see theres root for the LG Stylo 3 Plus. Can that method also be used for the Lg Stylo 3???
If anyone has root or finds root please contact me at [email protected]. Ill donate to you.
Getting the bootloader unlocked will be the biggest trick on this device. As usual, LG is following a longtime tradition of blocking fastboot mode on its budget devices. Without a working exploit to zero out the /laf partition and force fastboot mode, root on the LS777 is going to be extremely difficult. Root and custom Android development are already ongoing on the LG Stylo 3 Plus because the bootloader is readily unlockable on that variant.
This is the latest firmware for the LG Stylo 3 (LS777) with July 1, 2018 security patches. This package consists of partition images and is not in TOT or kdz format. The engineering version of LG-UP can be used to flash the individual partitions (using Partition DL mode). Or, the images can be used with a kdz firmware package compiler to create a kdz package.
These partition images are untouched stock.

Zve that don't sound right is to be zv8 or zv9
I'm wondering, I was reading another thread in this forum and read something about possibly achieving root even with a locked bootloader. It said that something would have to be patched and a insecure aboot flashed. I would attempt this, my issue is the LGUP tool. It keeps telling me unknown model. And I have tried about everything I can think of. I even used uppercut along with it to try to get the program to recognize my device. Any ideas?
