New battery calibration - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had my 6p for almost a year now and i have installed a new battery.
After searching for a proper way to calibrate it, i have found mixed results, some of them saying that 3 or 4 full charge and discharge cycles should do it. But also some of them say that this causes more harm than good to the battery.
Others say that deleting the battery stats file is all you need to do but some say that this makes no difference and that this file only keeps app usage stats.
Does anyone have experience with this or is there a proper procedure you can recomend?
Thanks.

How is this myth still alive? You don't need battery calibration at all. That was debunked by Google engineers 4 years ago. You are the first person to even mention it here in ages.

Not so. Battery calibration is real but it needs to be done at full moon.

Then why does apple recommend calibrating the battery every month? The nexus 6p is not completely dead until the led starts flashing red when you plug it in. I had to get into fastboot and let it sit there till it died to drain the battery all the way. After the battery is like new again.

I didn't know Apple made the 6p. Not sure what the LED flashing when the battery is low has to to do with draining your battery from the bootloader.

Never said apple made it, that's just dumb. If apple recommends calibrating their batteries once a month and they're one of the most successful companies in the world I'm gonna listen to them. The flashing LED means it's completely dead. If your phone dies and you can turn it back on, it's not dead and therefore the OS is not giving an accurate readout. Going into fastboot mode let's the battery drain without the phone shutting down.

I get it and I love XDA but just saying from my experience whether it be apple, Google, or windows phones I've had positive results running then down all the way then letting them charge all the way with no interruptions. Don't know if it's just a placebo effect or what but that is my experience just thought I would share it.

Jeez its not 1980 anymore, technologies advanced, batteries dont need calibration for years now. And to guy talking about os not giving accurate readout and phone shutting off, its nonsense. It doesnt matter what os thinks, its only approximate calculation, what matters is battery voltage and current, thats how its level is messured, and no os file can change that.

The point is that you denied anyone here must be right because it's some Apple recommendation FOR THEIR DEVICES, and they're a successful company, so that must mean it holds true for Android. That argument is just lame when several people here and Google themselves have long since debunked the notion FOR THEIR OPERATING SYSTEM. I guess Google isn't a successful company?
Oh, and Apple doesn't make any mention of calibrating batteries for iPhones where they talk about maximizing battery performance.

Again never said it maxamized performance. Second please explain why phones die at 20% or 30% if they don't need calibrated? I think you need a tinfoil hat to keep thoughts in.

No, you said it needed to be done, which it doesn't. If, as you claim, you're getting inaccurate % readings, then improving that would improve performance by your your phone staying on longer, RIGHT? You say phones die at 20-30% like it's a common issue. It's not.
Are you always this obtuse, or just a troll? FFS. Blocked.

Thank you all for the replies, well the few of them that were useful.
I've been running with the new battery for a little over a week, and I can see only marginal improvements, so if someone is wondering whether its time to change the battery after a year of heavy, heavy use, its probably not worth it. Good thing now is that I have a spare. Also while I was at it, I changed the housing to the aluminum one (I had the graphite originally) and the phone looks amazing now! Especially with the black fingerprint sensor. Now that is worth changing and going through the trouble to do it.
While battery calibration may no longer be necessary, I still did a full discharge and a full charge a couple of times to be on the safe side. I have had no problems with the percentage being reported incorrectly or anything else.

Where did you purchase the replacement battery? I ordered one from Ebay that had pictures of a genuine battery but shipped a counterfeit.

It might, and it might not. First I would try a factory reset, if that doesn't work, maybe flashing a different rom?
I would keep changing the battery as a last resort since it is quite a piece of work.

Updates please. I want to replace my battery.
Ps: good? 100sold http://www.ebay.com/itm/252482757101

I love my 6P, and it's been surprisingly durable, but the OEM battery sucked. I was down to about 4 hours on a good day. I bought an "OEM" replacement on ebay and went through the hell to install it only to find it not much better. One thing I noticed was this "new" replacement suspiciously looked like a used pull. So last week I took a gamble on this one on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2fkxcnf

After breaking the back glass lens over the camera once again, I was in like sin, and replaced the cell with this "Cameron Sino" brand unit. I was not very hopeful as this cell is slightly smaller than both the Original and the "OEM" Ebay unit. I also put in a replacement bottom PCB as my USB-C connector was getting a little loose. Also from Amazon: http://amzn.to/2hB217K
Now I get around 2 full days of life! I'm blown away! This is about on par with my wife's Moto Z Play!
HIGHLY recommend all 6P owners bite the bullet and break some glass to install this amazing cell! I think this one performs better than the OEM ever did! The one side effect is that the battery gauge's time estimator still can't figure this out, and shows about 5 hours when I come off a full charge. I've tried several full cycles, including charging with the phone off on the second one. Still only marginal improvement. But it's just an annoyance. The phone will still keep running for a good time even after the estimator shows 0 minutes.
FYI, after doing this job twice, I recommend just breaking the camera lens cover glass. All you end up doing is scratching up the back over if you try to remove it without breaking it, and then you still break it. So on the second try, I just covered it with strong tape and whacked it with a sharp heavy tool, then used the tape to pull off all the pieces of broken glass. The bottom plastic cover comes off easily with just the strong tape and a little persuasion. I was able to remove the phone main chassis from the back cover just by removing the screws from top/bottom and then carefully twisting the body a bit until it came out enough to get a spudger in between the front glass (be careful!) and the back cover.
Amazon also has the camera glass cover for cheap: http://amzn.to/2ugwYnV

A very, very important cautionary tale

A Very Cautionary Tale...
We've all heard the "urban myths" about exploding phones, and maybe even a few of you have experienced them. I'm here to tell you, they're true (proof below).
Got home, put my phone on the desk (wood) face down right next to my laptop and plugged it into USB to charge. Left the room for about 20 minutes.
As I was walking back into the room I heard a very loud POP. I looked over and a spark/flame jumped about 18" from the back cover of my phone. Then thick white smoke (and a really acrid stink) started spewing from it. I don't know how, but I had the presence of mind to run across the room and yank the cord out of the computer so it wouldn't blow. By now, the phone was fully engulfed in flames so I flipped it onto the floor and threw a sweatshirt over it to smother it.
Again, I don't know where the presence of mind came from, but I realized I had irreplaceable pics on the sd card so I put my shoe on the phone and with a knife flipped the battery out, grabbed needlenose pliers off the shelf and pulled the card. (It was a little distorted from the heat but everything was still there...it's now functioning in the new phone!!!)
The phone itself was still so hot it left an imprint on the bottom of my sneaker, and (as you can see) the battery left a burn right in the middle of my living room carpet. Parts of the pT hardshell case fused to my shoe, the phone, and my desk. The battery was still too hot to touch, so I poured cold water on it. But BIG props to Gorilla glass...the screen did not shatter!!!
When I went to Sprint, they were SO freaked out (and hysterical laughing) the techs all came out and took pics, and my salesgirl gave me a brand new one with battery! (Don't wanna waste my upgrade until LTE hits L.A. in May).
So, Exploding Batteries are a real thing, kids. Beware.

HTC Stock battery And not even using an SBC kernel! Pretty crazy stuff. You got me paranoid about plugging in any of my phones unattended now.
Good to hear you got things under control with the fire though and thankfully you were able to recover your SD Card

Pure dumb luck...had I not walked back into the room at that moment I'm sure my wood desk, laptop and god knows what else would've burned up. The fire was extremely hot. The battery stayed warm for an hour even after having cold water dumped on it.
Now, if I could just figure out how to get the acrid smell out of my place, I'd be happy. Burned Nag Champa all night and it barely helped...

And it was definitely not the phone that started the whole thing, but my original HTC battery.

Man you were lucky on two fronts..
#1 nothing else burned
and
#2 if you had been dealing with most other companies like Microshaft, they would have blamed it on the laptop maker and/or its faulty USB port and you'd still be going around in circles....
Kudos to Sprint for steeping up to the plate.

How old was the phone/battery? It can be rather impressive when a Li-ion battery decides to vent the polymer and burn. Been there, done that, have the t-shirt.... But not inside of a phone!!
Glad it all came out Ok. Good for Sprint for covering it.

Dev - agreed all the way around. My experience with Sprint the last 1.5 years has been nothing short of amazing, after almost 15 years on AT&T and Verizon (and all their precursors). Sprint never hesitates to step up and do the right thing.
Rab - Phone was about 6 months old and was a NEW (not refurb) replacement, including battery, for a refurb I got from a friend when my original OG went south (I walked in and they just swapped me...they didn't have any refurbs in stock and needed one!!). As I said, I have found Sprint corporate conduct to be quite remarkable in this day and age.
And yes, the fire was unbelievable. The amount of smoke coming from that small thing was incredible. And the heat coming off it shocking.
TT - My favorite smell!!! And I was shocked it didn't cover up the burn smell, but that's how bad it was.
Thanks, all. And remember ALWAYS WATCH YOUR PHONE WHEN CHARGING.
Yikes! I leave my phone to charge overnight and I've never had a problem, but I'm going to think that over again....

Ok, that is an unreal story, but I don't think everyone needs to rethink how and when they charge their phone. There could be variables, like a bent pin in the connector, for example, that caused this anomaly to happen

I thought it might have been run over, but the Sprint tech said no way. The only impact it took was hitting the ground and the case took the hit. They bench-checked the phone and gave me an all-clear.

Defective battery was their best guess. The battery was definitely the root cause. No bent pins, or any other [obvious] anomaly. That's not to say the 2 incidents were unrelated, but the phone worked perfectly for 9 days before this happened and wasn't ever even warm when charging.

Battery cover shows gaps

Hi everyone,
I just received my Atrix. Yes I'm back to using this beast. I have a question regarding the battery cover. On the side where it has the usb and HDMI ports the battery door closes fine and does not show any gaps. On the volume rocker side I notice there are gaps and I can see parts of the inside of the phone. I have tried several times to make sure every piece is snapped on properly but I still see the gaps. The last few tries, I pressed on it pretty hard and the gaps aren't as bad but it's still noticable. Is this a common issue with the Atrix battery cover? What should I do? I bought the Atrix brand new and shipping it back to the States is a real pain. I don't like using a case when I'm at home.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
no? my cover locks well all the way around.
Mine resides in a skin tight case 100% of the time. But, I do not have gaps either. Mine seals tight all the way around
No gaps on mine, and it's a wonder there isn't as many times as the cover has been removed for a battery pull.

Hmm, now you got me thinking it could be refurbished. There is a tiny scratch on the screen. It's only noticable when viewing a plain white screen. I did file a complaint to the retailer and they claim it's brand new. They said they could refund me 10% of the retail price. They're trying to avoid exchanging the phone because it's coming from the States. It came with the retail box. Could it be the battery door? I wonder if switching battery doors would resolve the issue.
Try calling Motorola and see if they have it in their system as having been warranty returned and then re-issued or anything.

You will need root and best to then just freeze them with TiBu if I remember correctly. Been so long since I had to worry about AT&T bloat with custom ROM's.

Darn. It looks like I'll have to exchange my current Atrix for an AT&T version. The one I have now is with SUTEL and there's no bloatware in this version.
I don't want to root the phone once I get it exchanged until I know everything is working fine.

I asked my brother and he said it won't show up. He's into cameras and knows if certain pics will show up or not. I can ask him again. He has a high end DSLR. It is noticable in person.
I have owned over 100 cellphones. I know how to put a battery door on. Especially with my experience with Sony Ericsson's horrifc battery door issues a few years ago. I have tried many many times with the Atrix's battery door and it still shows the little gaps. The gaps are bad enough that it will collect dust inside the phone. Also on each corner of the phone, the battery door is not even.

My little sister just took that with her $80 point and shoot. There's... enough detail in that to be able to see the non-existent gap on my phone... so one would think a bigger gap would be more noticeable and even more apparent.
And... a camera that's worth at least 10 times more than hers would definitely be able to capture more detail, i would think.
So that's why i'm questioning whether it's even really a gap or just a picayune detail you picked out (say like the small gap you can see around our screen glass and the frame of the phone).

Actually, just about all of the AT&T bloatware can be uninstalled without root, thankfully.

Sounds like a lighting problem. Any semi decent camera will show a gap in black on black easily if you get the lighting right. "High end camera owner" doesn't necessarily mean "knows what he is doing", and with a comment like "knows if certain pics will show up or not" I would say he doesn't really know photography.
Pics here were just taken with a colleagues iPhone 4. On the last pic I pulled the battery cover a wee bit. You can clearly see the whole area in all pics:

Samsung sg4 melted/burned while charging overnight

Update below:
Hey Guys,
i had a bad sleep last night, and that was actually good for once.
I woke up in the middle of night and wanted to check my phone. the screen was black and insanly hot. I took out the charger and thought it just needed to cool down. then 10 minutes later i checked the phone again, and it was still really hot. i took out the battery as well and continued to sleep. Then early morning I was scared i would miss the alarm, i inserted the battery again and wanted to attach the cover, but there was something wierd with the bottom exterior. i turned on the light and instantly woke up a 100%.
The bottom had melted and deformed and the charger tip was black.
It seems I was lucky waking up at the very right time before the device would have further heaten up and potentially caught fire...
I hope the dealer can easily replace the device as I am moving between countries. I already called samsung, but it seems the lady i was talking with was rather unwilling to help and directed me solely to the dealer...

Update: Samsung replaced the headset, supposedly to do further research on the issue.
im still frightened to charge it overnight, especially if you have it close to your bed at night! But anyways, im happy to have a new SGS4 in my hands!
If battery/charger was factory original that comes with the device, you can ask refund or replacement since its defective product.. most aftermarket ones are fake (even labeled as genuine) and have no overcharge protection so this might happen. I hope it is resolved well.

Hows the battery
A friend of mines S4 used to overheat to a point where it was untouchable. The motherboard and battery were replaced because the battery had started overheating and expanding. How is your battery looking?
Radukk: it was the original charger that came with the product. So if this is the sole limitation for a return, then I should be covered.
I have actually been thinking about this as i recieved a terrible slow secondary charger from phonehouse. the phonehouse charger used 8 hours to charge 50%, so since then I have only used the original in case anything happened.
Gilani7: i couldnt spot any bulks or any other sign that the battery has expanded.
The battery still holds charge and I can use it normal, after 4-5 hours use it has 77% charge left. But anyhow i need a new phone as it doesnt look good and neither is it practical to charge the battery externally.
Samsung's quality is deteriorating?

Coordinate with your dealer to have your handset replaced, but at the same time do everything you can to catch Samsung's attention. E-mail them, call them again (customer service via hotlines suck, as they outsource that sort of thing to third world countries like the Philippines and India, so most representatives when it comes to serious problems like that, they will turn you away and not help you), and write to the CEO if it's necessary. Since both battery and charger are original, warranty should cover your phone.
There have been reports this July of Samsung Galaxy devices exploding and melting... The charger thing you experienced was experienced by a another woman just this month, and on the same unit. She had problems when she approached the dealer for a replacement so she filed a complaint with Samsung and they helped her get a new S4.
I hope I don't experience this... I have a tendency to leave my phone charging overnight, and I'm planning to get the S4 in two months. :S
Last accident was caused by non original battery.

i just went to the dealer (Phonehouse) it was not that pleasent. The guy behind the desk was nice enough, but he said they needed to send it in to samsung, And from his experienced this couldnt be repaired (not a big bomb) and Samsung would neither replace it. He said it was totally up to Samsung.
The stupid thing is that Im leaving Spain in 10 days and i have no time to go back and pick up the phone...
I dont think i will have the time and the resources to sue them, but if they wont replace it then u will be the first one to know. Secondly comes the press.
Im never gonna sleep "with" my samsung phone charging again...
It is not a first time with similar problems in smartphones. In this case, as there is no visible damages to the battery, I am suspecting that USB plug was not fitted in socket correctly, and electric contact was not perfect or there was some dirt on contacts (and some series resistance caused additional heat dissipated during high current charging process).
I am not saying that it is user’s fault. Not. Problem is that micro USB port (enforced by some eco bureaucrats as charging standard) design is not so great for currents up to 2A.
Samsung should put additional temp sensor chip (not only sensor alone, but supervising chip, independent from OS running fine or not, which would be able to shutdown phone) very close to the USB socket.
Safety regulators should enforce such requirements and respective certification tests. Many vendors sometimes demonstrates their scratch tests, endurance testing, super duper audio bits, camera test etc. but I never heard about advertising of safety/temperature/fire tests...
My advice to you is to take high quality high resolution photos (better then these on dropbox) of battery, charger and cable, before you ship phone to the Samsung. Just in case, to avoid to hear next month, that it is your fault because you used fake/unauthorized battery/charger/cable.
See it on the bright side, at least you got a hot night.

Are you saying that customer service in "first" world countries is perfect?
If those in 3rd world countries suck, and knowing that multinationals do their homework, why do you think that they still outsource? One would say they are either nuts to throw away their hard earned name or they are just trying to save a buck. Assuming it to be the latter, would it not be better to say the MNCs suck and or that they are greedy rather than accuse someone who is trying to help ... someone that MAY BE disconnected from reality as they either have no clue what's happening in the other world or have no power to sort out the problem (as in this case where the help desk guy Philippines and/ or India would have no authority to approve a replacement).
diamond 2 owner: sadly i have sent it in already, so these are all the pics I got.
Yeah it could be as u say some dirt that had gotten in. but it doesnt seem right as i have had sgs2 for 2 years and never had any issues. and i was abusing that phone and the charger.
I thought they had a charging temp sensor on the sgs4, not only the battery. Mostly because it was such a powerful charger...

Just put my phone behind the charger today. Room temperature was 35c but half way the charge the battery was so hot i thought it would explode. If mine will melt like that you bet i would make work of it and get it replaced by samsung, if not i will steal one from the shop and swap it with mine

No, but customer service in first world countries is much better, as call center agents in first world countries are better trained. I'm from the Philippines with friends who have previously worked for call centers. They kept telling me that they were being scolded by their supervisor for having longer calls than 3 minutes, as they were trying to really help the customers resolve their problem, and unfortunately, the prepared script couldn't solve those particular customers' problems.
You immediately jumped to conclusions and raged at me. Stop it. You don't even know who I am and immediately you assumed I was discriminating. Am I supposed to say that customer service in countries like the Philippines and India is top notch when I know for myself it's not? There are a lot of factors to that, but that's not what I'm pointing out, isn't it? What are you going to accuse me of next?
If you bothered to Google my location, you'd KNOW it's from the Philippines. Who's disconnected from reality now?

I don't see why you'll generalize the entire situation to your call center friends. Do they work for Sammy? But the fact that you keep on complaining about the services our nation can bring (I know it's crappy), then why not move out?
So let us all now assume that customer hotlines suck 0 hahahaha it is always better if you complain personally in their service centers (especially to the main offices)

Hey, where about in the world are you living ?
Is it extremely hot weather over there ??
I bet this issue could be corrected by using the onboard temperature sensor to stop charging as a precaution when the phone itself is over heating and can lead to disaster like this one. Ah,.. those pics don't look too good to me ...seems like the connector is bad or something shorted over the connecting surface, did it actually plug-in quite well or was it loose ?
I'm living in Spain, Barcelona, the weather during the day can reach 30 degrees, but i wouldnt call it extremely hot weather, and the weather was quite pleasent during the night it burned, maybe 20 degrees in the room.
it plugged in as usual, not like the virgin-first time stiffness, but not any bending or loose contact neither, i didnt have any issues with charging connecter as i had with my previous phone.

Disappointed User of Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Exynos Variant

So I got a S7 Edge three months back after doing research online on it which had great reviews.
Yet I have the phone and I'm shocked to say I'm completely disappointed with the set.
1) The ENTIRE screen is filled with faint scratches. You can't see them indoor but under the Sun, they are all visible. These weren't there when I bought it but eventually they started emerging. I don't know what the cause to it. Before I had a Samsung Galaxy s3 and use it pretty roughly and it NEVER got any of these faint scratches on it. Just two big ones which you can feel but not notice when using it. But with this brand new phone, the ENTIRE screen with scratches?
2) The SOT I'm getting is absolutely horrendous. All I'm getting with the phone with barely at third party apps, absolutely no gaming, 50 percent brightness usually, no NFC, no Data, no location nothing ... yet it just does 3 hour of SOT. That on a Exynos variant phone which is meant to be superior to Snapdragon in the realm of battery optimization.
3) The software issue. The phone automatically changes from Vibrate, Silent, Ring mode. I put it on silent before sleep and when I wake up, it's on loud. It been doing it since the day I got it.
What should I post to get bottom of this? Is my phone defective? Can I claim warranty on it? It cost me 860 bucks the place I live and the phone built quality is so appalling.

You sound like you're a unhappy camper...
If the phone is still under warranty and your purchased it from your
local carrier's store you might try exchanging it for a different phone
telling the sales person that you are very dissatisfied with it.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

Yes I saw posts like that many times too here in xda of people getting 8 or 10 hours of screen time...

I actually have 7.5 SOT staying purely at home, but when I'm outside, the SOT went down to about 4-5.
I have an S7 Edge too, dunno what your problems are but I'm getting more than 10 hours with everything on. I use EchoeRom and Ael kernel. The combination is dope. Maybe you should try it out.

I am one of those persons that had 8hr SOT on the s7e. It's really no big deal. If you fully optimize your phone (close background apps, use wifi instead of data, use auto adaptive backlight) you can get 8h SOT no problem. My phone is fully stock.
Hey Man, i have the exact same problems as you. My SOT is 4 hours. And yes i have to recharge the phone before the end of the day. I also got the scratches.
For the person saying about the warranty: I don't think the warranty will cover scratches, so maybe they will not take it back. I got a big scratch within 24 hs of purchasing the phone. All i did was put it in my pocket with my keys. The same pocket where the Nexus 6P has been for a year without a problem.
I remember having the first motorola milestone with "Gorilla glass 1". That phone never got a single scratch no matter how many times i dropped it. Even the metal casing was dented but the screen was perfect. Maybe Gorilla Glass is getting worse on the generations? :/
Do you have the single sim or dual sim variant? I got dual sim.

Did some searching on the forums and maybe just maybe the firmware update might fix the battery and software issues. I'm on April Build when there is June build already out for UK variant.

I got the the same update June 1 by samsung officially. I hope the battery issue will be fixed. Finger crossed
So let's get it right you scratch your display and blame Samsung?? Try looking after it better or put a screen protector on.
Blame the phone for **** SOT but have you installed anything to see what's keeping your phone awake?
Very easy to get 5hrs SOT with heavy usage
And if you take time to set phone up correctly 7-8hrs is what you should be able to achieve easily.
Don't blame the phone

33hrs on battery, 4hrs 10mins screen on time, 2hrs 40mins Web browsing + use of camera (approx. 40 shots plus editing).
47% battery remaining
The phone is prone to scratches.
I had one, even though I was extremely careful careful. Then I put screen protector.
I am still on stock rom, getting up to 7-7.30h SOT with around 40h of uptime.
I don't use Twitter. I use Instagram, fb via browser, 4 mail accounts with push, screen brightness on 40% (inside) -100% (outside), I rarely play games, most of the day I am on 3g,and I put telephone in the airplane mode during sleep (24-07).
Have some occasional resets.
Still on stock rom.

Also, micro scratches are probably from grains of sand being in your pocket. They can very easily scratch a display.

Definetely. I put the phone in the same pocket where my nexus 6p has been for 1 year, and the screen gets scratched in 24hs. It says something about the quality of the phone. I never used a screen protector in any smartphone and i never had a problem.
The phone is giving me not more than 4hs SOT, i tried flashing latest firmware from another country to see if it fixed it, it didn't. I also use battery saving mode, low screen brightness, etc. Nothing works. I think its a problem with the dual sim version of the phone, somehow it drains more battery even with 1 sim enabled.

What's your display settings? I have adaptive display with auto brightness and my screen drains 180 mAh per hour while yours drain 100 mAh per hour...

Inaccurate battery percentage...

I have a 910T3 that I slow charge (AC) most of the time. When I see the green light go on, I unplug and see 100%, but after I reboot into TWRP recovery it is usually like 93%. Which one is accurate? I'd prefer the green light to go on when it's really 100%. Thank you.
Also, the stock battery is about 20 months old, and I can use it to about 0%-1% before it shuts off.
You could try reinitializing your battery. However seeing as your battery is that old. You would be better off getting a new one.
What is reinitializing the battery? I really wanted to avoid buying a new battery unless I really had to. I've read people's battery dying at like 25% left, that's when I'd buy a new one.

Above post is correct as your battery is quite old it is probably time for a new one. My old note 4 was very similar to this before the emmc failed in it it would always show different percentages on battery, the phone died before i got to replace battery though

Man I was hoping it wasn't time for a new battery just yet. Also, sorry to hear about your n4. Looks like eventually all of them will die like that soon. I swear this was planned cause the n5 wasn't that great, trying to thin out the n4 herd.

I tried the no5 for a bit, but wasn't really impressed with it. It had it's pros and cons, but I felt the no4 was better overall for my uses. I read others saying pretty much the same thing with sticking with the no4 rather than moving on the no5 cause of no battery or microsd card support etc.
How did you deal with dead batteries out of warranty or did you have both battery issues in the first year?

Lol i bought 3 note 5s and pieced them together with one one good screen and a bad usb port on said screen i swapped the batteries myself I heated the baqck and didnt bust it just scratched it. so i ordered a new back and use small dabs of rubber cement to put it back on.
I do all my own repairs no warranty. i had a verizon tmobile and sprint mother boards luckily I rooted before the usb went out completly and used wifi file transfer and wireless charge for that issue. So much as I now despise Usb ports and no wireless charge on devices.

Wow, I wish I had the skills and patience to do that. I know I'd make things worse and end up paying more in the long run for parts and fixing it. I think that is a huge reason why many won't move onto these newer phones without replaceable batteries.
I swapped out an older, but less used oem no4 battery and will see if it's any better.
So I'm using the older battery and lights up green at 100% (same level as TWRP rec).
But today, my phone just shut off at around 35-39% while in the middle of streaming a short video clip. Only way to turn it back on was to remove then reinsert the battery. Is this normal of dying batteries around the last 1/3 or could this possibly be an unstable kernel issue.
