Help me identify my device. - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, i bought a second hand G2 a few days ago, at a very low price, i did not do much research and here i am.
I intend to flash ROMS on it, but the problem is i cant identify the exact model. Here is all that i know, till now.
1. On the outside, this phone screams 'Verizon'.
2. The seller told me his dad bought it from abroad.
3. The 'Verizon' labelling tells that it is from US, but the phone is loaded with shady chinese apps and services.
4. The phone came pre-rooted and still is, even after factory reset.
5. The software info in the about phone section is >> VS980
6. I checked the IMEI shown in settings on imei.info and it told me it was a D800.
7. The IMEI marked on the back cover is different from the one found in software. It is also of a D800
8. I could not access the IMEI on dialling *#06# unknown application.
Help me. This is a mess. Could not figure out anything.
Also, my airtel gsm sim works fine, both call and 3G data. Is this phone network unlocked?

Sounds like a refurbished model. Afaio the only way to be sure is a look at the mainboard. Art Vanderlay has written a couple of things to identify a refurbisged device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/general/warning-to-people-bought-phones-ebay-t2991195

If i know the exact real model, then can i flash this phone or not? Going to open it later today.

[Q] (Unlocked) AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH i337 gives MM#6 error for MetroPCS SIM Card
Hello everyone. I feel that I have a rather unique issue here.
My sister recently bought an AT&T GS4 from eBay to use here under a MetroPCS service. I took it to a local phone shop in order to have it unlocked. I am not a noob when it comes to rooting/unlocking/ROMing/etc. since I've done so and experimented with my Verizon HTC Rezound. Since I've nearly bricked my Rezound three times, I decided that I should leave it to someone more experienced.
I took it in, within 2hrs the guy had the phone unlocked for me. He put in a Simple Mobile SIM card, I called my own phone and it worked. I take it to Metro PCS to have my sisters current line transferred to a SIM card to use the GS4 with. The problem is that whenever the SIM card is put into the phone and turned on, it says Phone not allowed (MM#6). I then proceeded to look up the IMEI to see if its blacklisted. I checked online and it said that it was clean. I also went to a corporate AT&T store to have them check if it is indeed blacklisted and they said that it is clean. While at the store, I decided to look through the phone for anything unusual. After checking the Status of the phone, I find that the IMEI value is 0. I then hit the *#06# menu and get a popup which says IMEI 0/04. I let the Sales Rep know and ask him if that could be an issue and he said that whoever I took it to might have messed up with the root and that there's nothing they can do since I don't have service with them.
I thought that maybe the phone wasn't connecting to the network because it wasn't set on the GSM radio so I used the *#*#4636#*#* menu but yet nothing happens. I added the APN values for T-Mobile (works for MetroPCS) and still no luck. I even tried factory resetting the phone but whenever I add the SIM card, I keep getting the same popup. In the Service Menu (*#0011#>>Back>>Key Input: 1) UMTS Main Menu, I hit [2] Version Info >> [1] SW Version >> [1] Read IMEI >> and it says "IMEI NOT ACTIVE."
I started looking around the net to see if I can restore and/or repair the phone and I've seen YouTube videos of people unlocking the code by using the Service Menu. Currently, I'm looking around the XDA Forums to see if there is anything I can try out. I'd appreciate the help. I do not want to install any ROMs on my sister's phone unless I absolutely have to. If anything, at the moment I'm trying to flash back to stock. Does anybody know anything about this issue? Also, if I am posting in the wrong area, I apologize for the inconvenience.
You need to put the original imei back to your phone, because the guy unlock the phone for you he messed up with your phone 's imei that why after unlock the phone shows zero imei

You're not alone on this one. I bought an AT&T S3 and having the exact same issue as you are. Here's my story...LOL. I met with a gentleman at the local AT&T store. We checked the IMEI, verified it was in good standing. Since he's the original owner, I purchased the phone from him. I use my MetroPCS SIM, and I get the same "MM#6" code you described. I'm very familiar with using AT&T phones on MetroPCS. I have transferred two NOTE 2s and an S4 to Metro accounts with no issues at all. BTW...the IMEI is still in good standing & when I insert a MetroPCS SIM, the IME still shows in the AT&T S3.
My Phone specs: Samsung Galaxy S3
Carrier: AT&T
Version: Android 4.3
What I've tried:
Downgrade to 4.1.1 (Unfortunatley, bootloader can not be downgraded)
There's two things I can think of...The Android version has something to do with it. Or...I've found out that my S3 was used overseas. And since your phone was from Ebay, theres no telling how the phone was used.
My next step is to purchase a clean SIM card from MetroPCS and have transferred to my account. I'll keep you posted on my findings. For now, I'd go to AT&T store and use their SIM and see if your IMEI comes back. Or downgrade the phone if possible and start from the bottom and work your way up.

Heres my update. MetroPCS SIM card is "married" to each IMEI/PHONE. My phone in question (the ATT S3) was not correctly associated with my account. I called MetroPCS customer service (1-888-8METRO8) gave them the ATT S3 IMEI and the SIM number. within 10 minutes, the ATT S3 was up and running. I hope it helps.
Please provide feedback.
I had a similar issue with MM#6
I called MetroPCS - informed them I was receiving MM#6 error and asked them to 'activate' my phone.
Gave them my IMEI and within a few minutes, I was golden!
WORKED
Thank you for your update worked perfect...:d:d:d

Refurbished and China seems Frankestein.
If it's a Frankenstein as Joku1981 suggests, run, don't walk, and get your money back.

what can i do now please help me. i upload pic about samsung info.
It's clearly not a Frankenstein, so that's good news. What carrier are you using?
In the first pic at the last line you can read imei cert:NA that mean that your phone has loose its imei certificat.
so you can return it and have your money back or give it to a sepecialized shop to push a new certificat with a box
PS: i have an i9500 and mine show : Imei cert: fail
@sentinelle20: "IMEI Certi: NA" is normal on the S4. I can confirm this because my S4 has the same readout and yet it works perfectly. On the S5 it may make a difference. See here for details.
Ok ggod to know...
in my working i9500 the last line says imei cert : pass

yes my sim work,s fine in any phone , i tried many sim in my phone but result is same. please tell me why some time phone work properly ? do you think its a hardware problem? because i upgrade its room many time but same result.
If you've tried multiple SIM cards in the S4 and all of them aren't working, then you definitely have a hardware issue. Either the SIM card tray has died or the fault lies in the motherboard. From experience, replacing the SIM card tray is both the least expensive route and the easiest, being something that you can do yourself. Replacement trays cost about US$10, a small phillips screwdriver, a half hour of your time, and the foam pad that sits on top of the connector of the original tray.
You purchased this as a refurb unit however, so you should have a warranty of some sort. Take it back to where you got it from and have them look at it.

N910F 6.0.1 Unable to register on network

For the past five days my N910F has been unable to register on a network. This problem first arose while I was using the Kyubi Note 5 ported ROM. Initially I was able to manually enter the APN details and use mobile data without issue, but had to keep manually re-entering the APN info as the phone would "refresh SIM data" every ten minutes. I could search for network operators and could see every available network in my country except my own, I was advised to attempt to connect to them all by my carrier's support but all would show as registered for a split second before dropping straight away.
The following day I flashed stock Marshmallow that I downloaded from Sammobile N910FXXU1DPD3 through Odin which factory reset the device, I've since rooted and put TWRP on it. Now when I search for network operators I can see my network along with the rest of them, but same thing happens and it can't properly connect.
The SIM card works in an old Galaxy S 3 and I've had my carrier send me a new SIM which arrived yesterday and after activating it, is doing the same thing.
When I bought the phone, I bought it second hand and it was carrier locked and the carrier would not unlock it. As a workaround, I went to a dodgy GSM shop who did something which essentially changed the IMEI of the device so that it would work, so my phone's IMEI when I dial #*06# and the one under the battery/on the box do not match. I only add this because I've read online that it could be an IMEI issue? However, this different IMEI hasn't caused me any problems for the last year and a half of owning the phone (apart from the fingerprint scanner not working).
Does anyone have any suggestion for the next step? Is it worth sending to Samsung for a warranty repair? Should I try a different modem?
Basically you have knowlingy changed the IMEI to get around a carrier block, which is illegal. In doing so, and also by rooting the device you have voided any warranty left on the phone.
Congratulations, you now have one of the most expensive paperweights you will ever own.

Changing the IMEI is illegal in most countries. Therefore the discussion thereof is prohibited on XDA.

Network reception + imei issue

Hi. So my note 4 emmc had gone so i managed to find another mother board from a n910f europe and unlocked etc. Got it installed by a good phone repair shop and phone booted up fine. Went and rooted it installed norma v19 rom all is well. However the issue i have is reception. For like 5 mins it sees my network fine and i can make calls and sms and use 4g fine. After 5 mins it still shows my carrier name but no recpetion. cant make calls etc. The only way to solve it is to goto settings, networks then choose my network from the drop down list. However again after 5 mins same issue. Now what i tried aftwr is used samsung kies and selected Tools > Firmware Upgrade and Initialization . Then entered model name and serial number. It then downloaded the latest rom csc modem etc according to my country (United Kingdom). Went through the set up and again after around 5 mins no network. if i type *#06# it shows my imei fine. So i dont know what the issue is. One of my friends said they had the same thing with their htc phone and had to actually change the imei on the phone. Anyone have any ideas as to what i need to do would appreciate it. Thanks.
ps i went back to the phone shop and told him to check the antenna wires to make sure it was all put back together properly and he confirmed it was.
bump. anyone shed some light?
i have confirmed one more thing that the imei on the phone is different to the one under the battery so i reckon thats the issue and i need to change it to match. now how do i go about doing so?
Hi,
Have you considered the antenna could be an issue? For what it's worth I replaced the motherboard on my Note 4 a couple of months and had the same issue. I'm just wondering if the antenna wires could do with replacing?

Phone Not Allowed - UK SM-G950F

Hi All
I'm at my wits end with this Samsung S8 phone, Bought a 2nd hand S8, was working fine, but I noticed the internal storage was only showing 9.63GB
Had a look on here and the solution was to stock flash the phone. I did that, all fine, storage was back to normal....BUT since then I can't make or receive any calls.
I get the error "phone not allowed" and it won't connect to ANY mobile network.
I've tried loads of different suggestions
Sim is OK in another phone
Re Flashed (numerous times)
Andriod 7 and 8
Sim and Phone OK with three network
But still have the issue....
Can anyone help me? or push me in the right direction?
Cheers
Tommy
You probably tried this, but try booting into safe mode. If it works then there is a software problem. If the problems persist in safe mode you probably gotta contact Samsung.
Are you sure the phone is unlocked?
Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Is the phone blacklisted? if it is blacklisted then it will not connect to service. Your SIM wil work perfect in any other phone.
Hate to say this but it does sound like your phone has been blacklisted.
You can check with one of the online IMEI blacklists.
If your phone shows Phone not allowed and a code like MM#6, it usually is an indication that it was blacklisted.
Check your phone's IMEI on a blacklist checker like http://imeipro.info/
The previous user most likely had the firmware and baseband messed around with and once you flashed stock it reverted to true state, it's highly advised to get back in contact with the person, where was the phone bought? A shop? Online?

Yeah tried that , still the same
If one is in possesion of a S8 that says "Phone not allowed", and the phone is blacklisted, is there any way of fixing that?
I have the same issue here..
I bought an S8 from Manchester last summer, and I started using it last week, (because my other phone worked longer than expected) and after I gave the phone the Network key that the previous user wrote down for me, then that message appeared.
So im stuck with this almost completely new brick aswell...
Any options at all?

The only real solution here is to either go abroad and sell the phone, or sell it to someone who is going abroad. The phone will work outside of the UK.
It does sound as your phones imei Nr is blocked in UK.. Probably the person who sold you the phone, stole it somewhere.
I have the same problem on my Samsung S7 now in Brazil.
In Canada, on Canadian carriers, everything is fine, and if I put the Canadian SIM in there everything is fine. But the minute I plug in Brazilian SIM card, boom, Phone Not Allowed message comes up and it won't connect to any of the Brazilian networks. Brand new SIM, works just fine on another LG phone (and any other phone I tried).
The phone is unlocked, I even checked with a few pieces of software and there is no network lock on it either.
I've got the master & network unlock codes from Samsung, but have no way of inputting them as no prompts for those come up when I insert the Brazilian SIM.
I checked the IMEI, it is definitely clean and not blacklisted.
Heck, I even rooted the phone to see if that would help, and still nothing.
Any idea what else to try or what else might be causing this goddamn message to pop up?!
I solved my S8.
Blacklisted on all uk networks except Three network.
Works perfect.
