Did Verizon finally win and block root?

I am little shocked to see nothing has come out yet on root for OE1. What are your guys thoughts? Is there any hope us on OE1 will ever get root back?

It's actually not Verizon, mostly. It's Samsung. I've seen the security on the Galaxy series grow since my GSIII.

No, it's Verizon...they blocked HTC from root and access to the HTC unlock option. There are no issues rooting T-Mobile or Sprint S5s.
And no one should ever say never. Exploits just appear...like Towel Root, Kingo Root and KingRoot in the past...no one is aware of their creation...they just show up and work. So one never never knows (seewhatIdidthere) :silly:

...but we can assume no one is working on rooting specifically the Verizon S5 with OE1 firmware.
Hmm, that's interesting. Thanks for the update. I used to be a serial flasher, but haven't quite kept up with the S5. Checking only now and then if any progress has been made on the latest update because I want to root because I miss some of those functions.

It is more that it is not a rushed thing, most people have a rooted version of OE1 that uses OD5 bootloader. So fewer people are without root. It is just a way to directly root OE1 that is not available yet.

If you had not taken the OTA update or otherwise installed stock OE1 then you could have gotten a version of rooted OE1. It may be a while before people find anything to directly root OE1 or later, just because there are fewer people who need that, so not as much effort is being put into it.

yeah, thanks, I already knew that. There's still most likely no way to root stock OE1 in the future. :good:

I just upgraded to the S5 from Verizon. Will I be able to root? Will it do an automatic update when I turn it on?
So there is no way to root of you did update on your s5 for verizon?
It will come....we just gotta wait it out, or do it ourselves.

Got my new s5 2 weeks ago... it came with it already installed.

[Q] Please confirm, though this says it works, it does NOT for Sprint?

http://androiding.how/lg-v20-root-status/
This doesn't specify T-Mobile version, but the linked thread does. I guess I can't successfully get this to work on the Sprint version, right? (DirtyCow). The reason I ask to make sure is because supposedly this dirtycow method works on any device. Thanks.
If not mistaken, this is only for the T-Mobile for the time being since its the only varient w/ unlocked bootloader

Damn, I hope we can figure out at least a systemless root for Sprint soon! Does anyone know if this has been achieved on phones with locked bootloaders in the past?

It is possible to root with locked bootloaders but not when Sprint removes fastboot completely from the phone. We cannot access bootloader and apply any fastboot commands so as for root for our Sprint v20. Unlikely.
I'm taking it back eff that then

Convert H871 to H873?

Who has the AT&T model and converted to the Canadian model? It seems theres a few posts on it but really not a lot of info of experiences.
I know how to use LGUP etc, but its been a general rule to NOT flash wrong model firmwares and I even have to tell people myself in some of my threads But does Antirollback no apply to the AT&T G6? Just flash via uppercut and good to go?
Why would you want to convert to H873?
What are the pro's?
Asking cos I am new to g6 added looking for info if h873 can work ok on At&t USA

The LS997 firmware does give volte. But once done sadly no returning back to AT&T firmware due to lack of having it. https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-g6/how-to/convert-upgrade-att-g6-to-h873-oreo-t3791848 I posted a guide awhile back. But no returning if you ever do it.
Talking about my website? Lol I blew the fish up with fireworks. The videos on my site where just tests I never removed [emoji23]
H.Smokes that fish went to hell or heaven in a hand basket! Firework effects look better than some slugs through it. I will check out the vid later.
I am hunting for the US997. A clueless buddy has a US997, he says. He sent me that the unit has LGUS997AUSAPL. How do I make sure this is not the US997U USCellular ver.?

That I’m unsure on how to check for the US.Cellular version. But yeah would avoid it. I currently run US997 firmware on my H871.
Looking at what you posted it seems to be the unlocked version. Might could ask what the IMEI is, it should tell if it is or not.

By flashing the US997 firmware like the H873 firmware. You would just miss WiFi calling if you have att postpaid. I use it on my 2nd line on AT&T prepaid.

So you can just flash us997 fw on h871, no root is needed prior? Is it just kdz flash or is there a specific set of steps? If so, any link?
Also boot loader on h871 is not unlockable so it's limited to stock roms only, custom roms are not flushable, correct?
Do you know if you can flash US997 or any gsm fw on Verizon vs988 same way as for h871?
What about flashing h870fw on h872 t mobile?

Only h871 to LS997 or H873. You’d brick your device if you did. Only T-Mobile firmware for the H872

Noob Question Please please reply....

Hi,im using a couple phone,ip8 and an LG G4 LS991,i love lg but things that i hate is this g4 is the bootloader cant be unlock coz my device antirollback was v4 and i cant root or modifying the phone.
Looking for a month but many thread say the v4 cant be bootloader unlocked.
So...
I want buy a brand new LG V20 or a Refurbish one,but thing that i want to know,is there a version of the V20 that the bootloader cant be unlock and have a antirollback version like the LG G4 LS991???
Please answer me,your ans very helpful, after solved ill delete the thread.
Huge Thanks.
Whatever you do, don't EVER buy a phone from Sprint. You really should stay away from ALL carriers, but if you must buy a carrier branded phone -- T-Mobile is the only choice.
For now, the LS997 (Sprint V20) is the only model that can't be rooted.
