A couple of weeks ago my N4 decided that it didn't want connect to my computer. I tried windows xp, 7, and osx. I tried 5 different usb cables that worked with other android phones just fine. I tried all usb ports on said computers. I've uninstalled and re-installed all drivers, using all the known methods. Then I noticed that I was getting terrible battery life. Like 5% gone in 20 minutes with all radios turned off and leaving it in my pocket. I was on the latest verison of PA with the latest verion of franco.kernel and I've had no previous problems with my phone.
So I thought maybe I did something to it like a bad flash, so i downloaded a stock 4.2.2 zip and flashed it (with gapps). The problem persisted. So I proceeded to wipe the phone in cwm in an act of desperation, and lo and behole I was then stuck with the same problem as before, but this time with no working os to boot to, and no way of connecting it to fastboot or adb in order to put any files on the sdcard/ flash it back to stock. I am, however, still able to boot into cwm and the bootloader. Then, thinking it might be a problem with the usb daughter board as whenever I tried to plug my phone into a computer it gave me this:"windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (code 43)", I ordered a replacement. Replacement came, I swapped them out, and absolutely nothing has changed. I tried uninstalling/deleting drivers and re-installing them just to make sure, but same results as before. Also, the N4 DOES charge when plugged into a power source like normal.
So the way I see it, I can either keep trying to replace parts, or one of you wonderful people know some crazy fix to my problem. If not, then I could go the other way, and attempt to brick the N4 even further in order to get it replaced (I.e. it's not possible to see whether or not it's unlocked/has a custom recovery). Also, I can enter "download mode" by holding down the volume buttons and connecting a usb cable, but windows still doesn't recognize the device.
Hi, background is this..
I have a D802-10C G2 that i rooted the stock 4.2.2 rom a while back using the post chinese method. Easy enough, all worked fine. no complaints. A couple of weeks ago i got offered the OTA 4.4 update, this failed due to the root. I then removed the root using the feature in super su. that seems to have worked as no apps or file managers etc could get root access. However, the OTA still wont work.
Now my problem is my phone will no longer be recognized by any operating system, on multiple computers. I have tried many ADB drivers, Windows 7 wont even detect the device, i've used every PC connect mode, USB debugging. However always the same result, it's as if i'm plugging in a blank usb cable into the computer. Nothing at all.
The only thing that does happen when i connect the phone to a computer is the phone starts to trickle charge. There is nothing detected in Device Manager in Windows 7 I've tried connecting in download mode, nothing. I've tried the LG support tool, PC sync. Nothing.
WiFi does connect to the PC suite fine BTW and other than that the phone is working perfectly. I've also tried connecting multiple usb cables on multiple ports.
I haven't been able to find a single case of the same problem in the week or so i've been looking. Hoping someone can help, i'm thinking i may have soft bricked my phone. I really do not think this is a driver issue.
Any help would be great. cheers
Paul

YOu can try checking the device manager or use other USB port on your phone.

The problem is not like the usual ones you will see about "computer not being able to see device" I don't think it's a driver or software issue, or if it is it's unlike any i have found in the weeks i've been searching the net for a solution. Here's why....
When i connect the phone to Windows 7 and 8 ( on 3 different computers) No hardware is detected, nothing in the Device Manager, no yellow question marks indicating 'Unknown Hardware'. Nothing, all it does is start trickle charging.
Now even with no ADB, or any driver at all installed, the computer should still detect the phone. Mine does not.
The same thing happens using OSX and Linux Mint 16 (again multiple computers) No devices or mounted or volumes shown at all. Linux terminal command "$ lsusb" does not list my hardware.
This is why i'm pretty much convinced that there is something wrong with the USB port on the phone. Because, if Linux can't see it then surely it's a hardware problem right?
The only other thing i can think of is, i have messed up the phones firmware while trying to unroot it? but only because the timing of all this is just too uncanny.
I think i'll have to suck it up and admit defeat here. Funny thing is the phone works perfectly and charges fine.
Stuck on 4.2 , with no ADB functionality. Perhaps i'll sell it cheap to someone who doesn't care.
Cheers for the reply mate.
Same problem here!
Only my G2 is not rooted, it is still on factory OS and recently updated to 4.4.2.
I have tried on several computers, different ports and no help.
On the first connection to a PC not connected before windows reports "USB device not recognized" problem.
After that every time I connect the phone to the same computer the phone itself only recognizes that it is using USB charging mode, it does not recognize the computer connection (known by the USB ison on android system tray) even with "Ask upon connection option checked".
Even when I manualy change the Android mode in Settings --> PC Connection from MTP to PTP or even LG software, nothing happens.
Definetly there seems to be a problem with the phone, but I don't beleive it's a software but a firmware problem.
Please help if anyone knows what to do.
same thing happened after installing T-mobile rom thrugh twrp. but my device boots into fastboot and i tryed falshing :
laf.img, boot.img, aboot.img, recovery.img, laf.img
but after reboot my LS980 dissapear from device manager and stucked on LG logo.
Dont know what to do now.
I'm no expert, but given there are a lot of them here and none have weighed in on this with any ideas for a fix, i'm going to assume it's a hardware problem.
Anyone else agree? Hardware problem not software?
Cheers
I guess that you already wiped everything right? Apart from that, i'll suggest you to go to some tech supp and ask them if they can verify that each pin of the micro usb is properly working.
Sorry for my english, hope it helps!
Sent from my LG-D802 using XDA Free mobile app
I will try to check the connector although i dont think that it is a hardware issue.
BTW I can enter the download mode after flashing the mentioned partitions and i can also enter the stock LG recovery but when i do the factory reset it keeps showing Factory reset processing ... for ever
It has happened to me the same thing :crying:, and is a problem with the boot.img, if by chance your G2 version 4.4.2 and the the 4.2.2 boot.img, goodbye.
The only solution is to take it to repair a service official, there will change you the card, with the consequent change of IMEI.quent change of IMEI.

I have some kinds of that problem, let try:
Settings -> General -> PC Connection -> Select USB connection method -> Media device (MTP) (or whatever)
Got this same issue after flashing cloudy g3 rom. Then later flashing dirty unicorns, which requires jelly bean baseband. But even restoring g3 and 24a baseband, still doesn't work. No pc tethering and no on the go usb. My usb port is basically charge only.
---------- Post added at 03:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:56 PM ----------
Everything else works fine...I actually never even noticed this bc I never tether to pc. But now I have to bc I want flask kdz
Help me please

Anyone has an idea how to fix this problem?
same problem
I have a LG G2 . recently updated from vs98027a to vs98039a 5.0 lollipop. Since the update my computer won't recognize my device in download mode and I don't have superuser ppermissions. Help plz
I also have the same problem.
It happened when I tried to backup info through LG PC Suite: the phone disconnected during the process, and now it's not recognized by any PC (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/help/lg-g2-recognized-windows-backup-t3155323).
Also found a description of the same problem here: https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg2/comments/2urpnw/lg_g2_usb_only_charging_not_recognized_by_pc/ - no solutions, too.
Did anyone manage to fix this?
Got myself a google LG Nexus 4.
Connecting via USB - 2 different cables, 2 computers, 3 different operating systems (archlinux, debian, windows vista ) - i get nothing (*).
the phone does not acknowledge that it is connected to a computer, but it charges ok.
the computers do not recognize the phone in any way, not even in dmesg (or device manager in windows).
i have tried changing options inside the phone (debugging on/off, mtp/ptp...), even a full factory reset, and going into recovery and wiping cache/dalvik cache. - nothing.
wiggling the cable and such does not help.
i even replaced the usb connector, no change whatsoever.
so something tells me that it is not a hardware problem.
the phone has been upgraded to android 5.0 (before i became the owner).
my endless searches show that nobody knows what's going on, it might be hardware fatigue, it might be related to the upgrade to 5.x, it might be a firmware problem...
any helpful pointers, including downgrading & softbricking the system would be helpful (i just want to install ubuntu phone onto it).
(*) my other android phone connects ok with both cables, to all machines and operating systems.
With the phone in fastboot or recovery mode, is it recognized?
The fact that the usb port has been changed could indicate a problem with the motherboard connector.
Go into device manager with your phone connected and uninstall the drivers. Then install "universal adb driver"(google it it's from Koush) with your phone NOT connected.

i tried adb, the device list is empty.
booting into recovery, replugging the usb cable, i still get nothing. it's like there's nothing to communicate to, both from the computer's and the phone's point of view.
i will have to play with fastboot (i gather it works only while the phone is booted into recovery?), but i doubt it'll change anything.

do you mean the connector from the usb port, that flat cable snap-on thingy (far right on this image)?
is it realistic to try to fix that?
PS:
meanwhile the battery drained completely and i had a "Red light of death" which i managed to fix like this. i think it will take a while to recharge properly.
Adb commands will work with the phone booted into the rom. Use fastboot commands with the phone in fastboot mode.
Yes, the flat part at the it her end of the USB cable is what connects to the motherboard and is not worth fixing if that is causing the charging problem.
With a red LED, just connect it to a 2.0 amp charger using the original charging cable and let it charge for a few hours.
thanks again.
next thing i realized that the volume rocker isn't working (anymore?).
so i can't boot into recovery.
i don't know how, but once i managed to get into recovery, but couldn't make any choices in there.
anyhow, that sort of cinches it: i'm done with this phone. project failed.
(nevermind, it was a cheap ebay shot)
ubuntu phone will have to wait.
I've got 5 S7s on my desk, all Canadian variant, all from the same manufacturer all the same model. - SM-G930W8
All are recognised by my PC but one and I can't work out why not!
Plugging the phone into the PC makes no noise from the PC but the phone seems to detect a regular charger not a PC.
I have plugged it in using different cables including the one in its box and the ones used on other devices that were recognised and only this phone doesn't work with any of them.
I have plugged in, unplugged and rebooted many times.
I have set the USB configuration to MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)/Transferring files.
USB Debugging is ON and OEM unlocking is ON.
I have tried booting into stock recovery and wiping cache AND factory resetting.
When phone is turned on "adb devices" returns nothing.
I have installed Samsung Kies and Samsung Smart Switch to reinstall the drivers.
NOTHING IS WORKING!
All threads I find tell me to do the things I have listed above and have people saying these have worked but all of them I had already tried and double tried and nothing is working.
The cables are correct and working with other S7s of the same model.
All the correct drivers are installed and have been uninstalled and reinstalled.
All the correct setting are selected and OEM unlock and USB debugging enabled.
Phone was fresh out the box as were the other four and all cables.
Samsungs apps installed on PC to ensure best drivers installed.
Would really appreciate some guidance or consolation that its not something stupid I'm doing! I work with these phones everyday and this has never happened! Just banging my head against a brick wall trying to resolve it
maybe faulty usb port, my nephew had S6 with the same issue, service replaced usb port and it started
to work with PC.

Thanks but unfortunately Odin doesn't recognise in download mode.
Could it be a USB port problem if I used the same port for the other 4 devices and have no issue?
I'm considering sending the phone back to manufacturer to be honest I think it may just be a faulty device or something!
I bet its microusb port fault
Had a similar issue on Windows 10 , if that's what your running let the phone be connected, uninstall the driver from device manager, and then install driver select have disk and select the basic mtp , if this doesn't help connect to Microsoft support and they'll guide you through it , worked for me , my phone used to detect on other laptops but mine , also I could connect other phones on mine but not my phone, hope this helps
same issue here
Hi Group... Newbie here and I am sure you will figure that out by my questions and terminology ... I am a Hardware tech specializing in Microsoldering...and Iphones at that. I just bought out another store with loads of devices I am attempting to fix and sell. I have been successful on most all of them, and now have an Att Galaxy S5 that I am getting trolled by.
It powers on (Has an unlocked padlock) while booting. but all APK's ive tried says its not rooted...
I wrote Att unlock and got approved with unlock code (Not attached to an account, not lost or stolen, clean IMEI).
I restored it using power/Home/Volume up (Padlock still unlocked)
I plugged it to computer to use ODIN to restore back to original Stock but phone will not connect to computer.
Developer mode is on and debugging checked... no drop down and not recognized by computer at all. Thinking it could be a charging / Data port (Even though it charges with computer), I swapped the logic board into another "Known Good" housing that does connect. It made 0 difference.
all other Galaxies connect just fine so Cable / USB Port / Drivers all appear okay.
Since I cannot use computer and ODIN, I wanted to try SD Card to restore original Rom... but nothing I am trying works Any ideasany

install this first
https://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
when you put phone in download mode that time Odin should see the phone, if its not then also change USB cable, PC
under developer option check if its listed for charging only or mtp
also on dial pad try this
type *#0808# and enable MTP.
Gave up on this one...Can close post
Thank you for your suggestion but have tried all of that. I have 7 others that connect fine...same model with same cord and same computer. Have the Drivers, tried everything under *#0808#... However, I have tried testing D+ and D- as well and all is good. Changed u7000 as well and no change. I'm pretty certain that it has to be a hardware issue so I just gave up and put it in my parts bin as I don't know Android hardware the way I know Iphones and have too many hours in it to make it worth while
