Nexus 6p running 7.1.1 beta. Rooted, but running stock ROM and kernel. Only modifications are Pixel launcher and Google Assistant. Brightness at 10-15%. Wi-Fi is on while the screen is on only, but Bluetooth and mobile data are always off. Location services are set to battery saving. Screen timeout set to 30 seconds. Adaptive brightness and ambient display is off. I'm only getting 3hrs SOT, but standby time is great. Only watch one hour of YouTube altogether and use social media often. Is this good or is there something wrong with my battery? ?

Install a battery app like GSAM and you can see what is using it, or things that may be causing wake locks.

I get 4 hrs of SOT
Average use daily is checking e-mails - checking Facebook and Twitter - Youtube and Music streaming - no games.... Sometimes, it drains without even doing that and I barely pass a day without charging it.....
PS:
The Screen on time is inconsistent as it might be just 2 hrs or 3 hrs and it would be consumed completely!
Is there a ROM or an app or anything that can help me get better SOT?
Thanks and apologies for the message, I now know that it was unnecessary.

Make sure you let it run for a couple full cycles and you have to read it correctly. You can't get useful stats the minute you install it because it needs to run through full cycles while charging and unplugged, as it can only provide information for the time it's been installed. The longer you run it, the more accurate it is. Second, the App Usage stat is a percentage of the percentage of battery used. So if your battery is at 70% when you look at app usage and it says those things used 57% of the battery, that's 57% of the 30% used to that point.
You also need to look at the Held Awake stats because that will tell you what, if any, processes are keeping your phone awake and thus contributing to drain.
I have found that the system in Nougat does tend to use more battery than it did in MM. However, doze implementation is better and it deep sleeps more and does a better job of saving battery. In fact since Nougat, I've stopped using Greenify because it actually seemed to make my battery worse. Since I've been on Nougat I get well over a day on a charge with about 5-5:30 SoT. However, battery also comes down to what ROM and kernel you use and how much you do processor and screen intensive tasks. Music streaming doesn't tend to use much battery, but if you spend a lot of time web surfing, Youtube and games, you'll cook your battery no matter what. If you use the Facebook app, nothing you can do will help as it's a dreadful battery suck.
Here are the numbers provided by the GSam App
Are these numbers good or bad?
The average use gets me through the day but if I use it heavily, it would last 3hrs max.

There's no secret for that, just chage the configurations for max battery saving and disable background apps or services you don't need.
Calibrate battery, maybe some build.prop edits and that's it

4 days? maybe you seldom use your phone.
just several sms,phone
Yes, maybe wifi and network data not work
i used a bit of 3g while out and about FB and news, used wifi when i was at home again just bits and bobs, sent quite a few texts as well as some calls. was just average use nothing major.
the only thing i did was download Battery Calibrator charged to 100% ran the app to clear the battery stats and got a nice 4 days out of it
7days 1hour with 11% left.
Now i do use phone for a few calls/sms only, but hey, it's even better than my old non-android one!

Well,
First of all, this (note that smartass is preinstalled on GingerDX, at least on v013 it was; screen brightness for me is set at minimum level, 13% which is more than fine indoors and outside if cloudy);
V6 supercharger from here (yet i do have some troubles with it, as described here);
Autostarts to remove many processes from the autostart list, but play carefully around with them! I won't provide the entire list of enabled/disabled apps (reason: too lazy, it's 4 am in the morning);
Advanced Task Killer to kill all the unnecessary ones (incl messaging and some more, don't forget to kill the task killer along).
Android Assistant launcher widget to free some memory (i do keep it in memory, it doesn't seem to cause any trouble by staying there);
Signal quality also plays a role in how fast your battery goes, better quality = longer standby; so play around with places in your home to find best spot, it can take a few days though;
Also i use my phone mostly for a few short calls (10-30 mins total per day) and an sms or two, this also helps, since i'm most of the time at home near my computer (i work at home lol);
Charging from ~10% from computer (slower charging) seems to help a bit too, not entirely sure;
Static wallpaper! Live ones are a power hog.
And generally - the less you toy with your phone, the longer will the battery last

Here, you can have mine. Not sure it'll help you, i have clocked only 1d 15 hrs from last charge and about two weeks in total since reset. But i hope it helps!
In the past week or so, I've noticed that my battery is draining unusually fast. I will take the phone to bed with me (I use it as an alarm clock) at 100% battery and I can wake up 7 hours later with it at 82%. When I look at my battery information, I see steady, solid drain over that time, with the biggest offender being Google Services. When I look in Wakelock Detector, I see the most usage (though seemingly not a ton) by Android System.
I found some tips on using Wakelock Terminator in Xposed to filter some things from Google Play Services from triggering wakelock, and I was optimistic, but it didn't seem to help.
Any advice?

Are you on a stock rom? Did you try greenify? It's on the play store. It kills the apps background services and the app itself until you start the app or the app is started by another app or service. Soon as the app os no longer needed it is turn back off. This program does not freeze apps it prevents them from running until needed.
Ah, sorry, I should have mentioned my rom and such. I'm running ForceROM, a relatively older version (maybe 2.3?), since I never felt the need to update.
I haven't tried Greenify. Haven't actually heard of that one before. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the tip.

Try a custom kernel like KToonsez in addition to Greenify. It's amazing what you can end up doing with that kernel
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
ForceROM includes Ktoonsez kernel. For the last 8 months or so, I've had great battery life. This is a sudden and recent change, which I'm assuming to be caused by an update of some Google app (such as Play Services).
How do I use Greenify? Or do I just install it and it does magic?

I believe that installing Greenify might have done it. Battery usage looks much better today. I'll do a real test tonight when I get it charged to 100% before bed.
Well, I'll be...
I think that the problem is wifi. When I'm at home, I'm on wifi, and the battery is constantly draining. When I'm not at home, and on mobile data, the battery is well-behaved.
What's up with that?

Some apps can be setup to sync over WiFi only instead of 3G/4G data. but you have to check what apps would be the culprit. I know Google play, dropbox's picture upload feature can be set to download/upload/update over WiFi instead of data. But the only way to know is to see what apps connect over WiFi.
WiFi is suppose to give you better battery life since its signal is usually nearby and your phone doesn't have to use more power to find a better signal like it does with 3g/4g. I know for me it does since there are very few towers in the middle of the dessert.

So, interesting twist to this saga. Leaving wifi off takes away the solid blue bar on the battery screen, but I still see the same level of battery drain (about 18% overnight). Very intriguing.

Sounds like you're losing power to things syncing over wifi. Maybe try just giving it a week and watching it to see if it settles down. Google play sometimes settles down on its own. I also vote to check out greenify. With the donation package you can work wonders at calming down power hungry apps, even system apps.

My situation has suddenly taken a turn for the much worse. I don't know what's going on. I haven't added anything new or changed any settings since installing Greenify a while back. Now, the battery is just tanking. I got up to 100%, ran Battery Calibration and now, about 2.5 hours later, I'm at 82%. Could this just be a problem with the battery itself? Do I need to replace it?

Honestly there are a few days where the battery life suddenly drops dramatically. I've experienced this on unrooted mf9, mk2, and nae. Give it some time and see if battery life comes back up. You can reboot the phone to kill a rouge app that might be the cause.

You need to figure out what's drainng the battery. Get gsam or betterbatterystats to figure out what's causing it. Anything else is just a guess.

If you don't see anything unusual after a few hours of using GSAM/BBS, no extreme wake locks or times held awake, I would then do a factory reset and see if the problem continues, if it does then you may have a bad battery and it will need to be replaced, it is not difficult to do, a simple YouTube search will show you tons of examples of how to do it.
If that isn't it, although it is rare, you would have bad hardware and need to get the device serviced or replaced.

Download and install from the playstore the app Wakelock detector, let your N4 get to 100% in battery and unplug it and try to use it as usual. When it reaches 10 or 5% take a screenshot of wakelock detector and post it here. Try also to take a screenshot of GSAM or Betterbatterystats.

this, absolutely right. battery life depends on how you personally use your phone, how you set it up, what apps you have installed, and mostly on the quality of the phone/data connection that you have.
İ dont think its a software problem guys.My newest stats: http://i.hizliresim.com/rLNLAB.png
Any calibrating suggestions?
We need more detailed information than this to troubleshoot this... Without that information we can't really help. We need screen shots of Wake lock Detector, BBS, or GSAM. GSAM is the easiest to interpret, so shots of the main screen, app sucker set to time held awake, screen and radio would be needed to assist further, in English if possible.

Everything does not look fine...Two things that's bothering me looking at this is the GSAM shot, it is showing you drawing 1500+ma off the battery... Seems very excessive, I usually see 350-900ma at most (433ma at moment). And the 41% of usage by the screen in just over an hour use seems kinda high, what is your screen brightness set at, and what does the GSAM Screen usage screen say, anything in the Medium or higher category is using very significant battery.

"Calibrate" is a misnomer, it will not affect battery life or current draw, years ago in the Froyo/Gingerbread days you would wipe the battery calibration file to reset the display and estimated run-time remaining, it doesn't affect actual battery use or life, just how it is displayed and runtimes are calculated. You can always download a Battery Calibration app from the Play Store and use it, it won't hurt anything but I believe most require root access. I have seen some discussion that this is irrelevant in KitKat since the file is rebuilt on each boot, but I can't verify that.
Honestly though, when I look at your GSAM screen with 2:40 average screen time and just over 3 hours max, this part doesn't look unusual, but it doesn't jive with the screen shot showing 1:19 screen time using 42% of the battery... you are at 12% after 10.5 hours, the phone is obviously sleeping properly (only 28min held awake over 10+ hours is quite good), but at the same time you are showing 5%+ per hour drain. A little puzzling but not outside of the realm of normal.
I'm not really sure what else to say, every phone is different, this may be normal for your device, without screen shots of app sucker and screen usage in GSAM I can't really say anymore... try the standard stuff like switch to Device Only in location services to stop Google Play Services drain, lock the screen brightness at 20-30%, disable syncs, etc.
Of course, this could be something in hardware too... I had a Samsung once that no matter what would drain 5-10% per hour well sleeping even in airplane mode, yet no one else in the forums ever commented that theirs did, turned out it was just a lemon, a replacement would drain less than 1% per hour.
2.20.40.41 ze550ml battery backup is THE worst. inspite of greenify, amplify, apps ops, powernap, battery drains so much. Damn Asus!
So true...., like an Iphone...
Androis OS at the end of the day is nearly 54%
I would recommend the latest build of the SuperZen R19 and the custom kernel by TheSSJ V75 .... use the SSJActive Governor and the Sioplus for I/O ... then kindly report back!!
I agree, if I knew the battery would be this terrible, I'd never bought this phone.

yup, unhappy with battery backup eventhough it has 3000mah. also due to Android 5.0 bug
21% of Android OS bug for 2% screen use, yeah, Android OS seems to be THE issue of battery draining.
Here is the link to the 8 hours SOT http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/orig-development/rom-slimlp-t3169982/page11
It is infuriating. Seems to be impossible to get the phone to sleep properly. Today mine seems to have stuck permanently awake. And the WiFi seems to be almost always on, even when it is supposed to be completely off.
ZE550ml user here. I can easily past 5 hours SOT in 20 hours standby time.
-Stock rooted and Cpu governor set to ondemand

Bad it needs root.
I've installed Doze and when the screen is off, i see the difference.
Also don't use the buildin music player with bluetooth, this will KILL your battery.

At first i am only rooted because i am using TB and AdAway. No problem with battery life what so ever. I had also tried to use build-in music player for around 2 hours with wired earphone many times, but seems like it doesnt have much effect on the battery life too. Could be the bluetooth issue? i rarely turn on bluetooth.
BTW, have you turn off WiFi scanning option?
Could be that it is a Bluetooth issue then but I don't have it with VLc and Bluetooth playing.
If asus doesn't improve, I will try your setup.

Don't blame the phone. Mine sleeps like a baby (1-1.5% per hour) stock, unrooted. Your setup is the problem. I'm running Greenify, Opera Max, allow Autostart to only the apps I want AND most importantly denying data access and keep awake to non-essential apps. I've also disabled the crapware including Google music, playbooks etc that I've never used.
One more thing, Facebook, Viber, Skype, Twitter etc are killers too. I access fb via my browser (CM Browser). The stock browser is another battery killer.

the thing is, the earlier firmware version was working fine for me but not the latest one. also i have enabled only greenify in autostart manager. disabled all unwanted google and asus apps. also in sleep mode i have only max 2% battery drain issue. now using Project T kernel by @TheSSJ lets see how it performs

Posts like these make me feel lucky I got the CN version.
First I was angry and rushed to install the WW firmware but my battery got terrible, I barely made 3 hours ost.
Now I'm back to CN firmware with 5 hours ost with light use Internet, Facebook, calls, what's up .and 4 hours ost if I heavy game for 2 hours or more.
I don't know why CN got better battery I wish I could help but I can tell you it's not the phones fault.

Did you turn off Wifi "Scanning Always Available"?
also stock kernel sometimes never goes in sleep mode. need to reboot and check whether it is in deep sleep mode or not after keeping it idle for a while!

Exactly. You need to reboot your phone just to be sure it will sleep properly if you are not going to be using it for a while. It's ridiculous.
All these replies are pathetic. Sorry if I'm offending anyone. Learn how to use your phones properly based on how you use them. I'm sending this from my Zenfone that's been running for 18hrs and it's on 30%.
MY MAJOR QUESTION FOR ALL OF US XDA NERDS......... WTF ARE YOU DOING ON YOUR PHONE FOR 5,6,7 HOURS A DAY? Get a f****ng life!
Edit: And if you think I'm talking smack, please look at my signature and what a true battery phone is all about.
The Zenfone 2 is a $300 beast and I'm loving it.

Hey!
I got my stock OP5 updated into Android Pie last January 26, 2019. After receiving the update and updating it, I seem to notice that the battery drains faster. Anyone experiencing similar?
I honestly haven't but I ended up doing a full wipe attempting to fix a problem that was actually hardware related. Have you tried clearing all cache in recovery?
Sent from my ONEPLUS A5000 using Tapatalk
No, not yet. Also, I can't do it right now since I have lot of files and important apps. I will let you know if I do it.
Here is an update on my battery status.
When you get the chance, I suggest you do a backup and do a full wipe. Stuff like this is rather common when you do a upgrade of the OS and this is why everyone here recommend a clean install when it comes to major updates.

Clearing just the cache (not data) won't lose any of your files. I don't think you lose anything really if I remember right. It may not fix the problem but it can't hurt to try. It should probably be done every now and then anyway.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Haven't really tried your suggestions yet since I am really busy these days.
Here is an update. My status is improving.
What happened was my battery was totally drained, 0 and off.l, when I woke up. Then, I charged it to 100 then turned it on. After that, my battery became tolerable.
Hi
Can I suggest you to download the naptime app from PlayStore (by Francisco franco?). It's just about to open the app ,activate it ,go down and choose which apps you won't put on sleep like Gmail/ WhatsApp/ messenger or whatever you need always up. All the other processes will be putted to sleep. Francisco Franco is the king of this things . Don't need to be rooted. You can have a Go. Today after use it a lot,I still 33% left. Hope it's help as the op5 is still a so great phone but for business they need to put it down.
Battery drain after pie update
Hi I'm currently using oneplus 5. I'm facing battery drain issue. When i charge my phone to 100 percent it starts. Draining first 8 percent very quickly. Almost in 10 mins. And after that it works normally. I'm getting just 5-5:30 hrs of sot with moderate usage. Its quite frustrating. Kindly someone help me with this. I've cleared my cache but no luck with it.

If you are rooted. Install better battery stats and upload your summary, kernel wakelock, partial wakelock and alarms here. Do remember to keep better battery stats unoptimsed.
No I'm not. I'm on stock pie. Now what to do?

Under location. Find scanning and disable wifi and Bluetooth scanning if you haven't done that already. Disable Bluetooth, NFC, hotspot, location when you are not using them.

Look at these steps too. Do those if you can find them. Some may not be available maybe related to old android version
