My apologies if this has been answered but I haven't been able to find it ...
I'm running AvaFroyo V7 ROM on my rooted EVO, and installed SetCPU. Things are definitely faster. But it appears SetCPU only allows me to UNDERCLOCK (to save battery life, etc.).
Can SetCPU *not* overclock? What am I missing here ...
Thanks in advance!,
Jon
Overclocking has to be enabled in your kernel before you can set it ine set cpu.
It will allow you to overclock if you are using a custom kernel that is capable of the higher frequencies.

Any recommendations ....?
I personally prefer Netarchy CFS 4.1.9.1 and I overclock to 1.19. King makes good kernels too..

Thanks, much appreciated!
Btw, what kind of clock speeds are you able to attain with those kernels?
-- Jon
Most of Kings and Netarchy's kernels can overclock to 1.26 but some CPUs become unstable at those frequencies. Mine runs real nice and safe at 1.19
Duh, my brain was on auto-pilot, didn't see the 1.19 in your previous post.
Thanks a bunch man!
I have a droid incredible htc running skyrider rom, i red that i can make an overcloking for increase the speed, i would like to know what i have to do. How to do it. What i need. I search in you tube but i cant find anything for droid incredible. Thanks...
SetCPU is the most common CPU frequency changer.

What is the best setting. I have overclock widget. Thanks.... guys....
so there no kernels to help oc, just use setcpu tor similar apps?
on other phones u need kernels to oc. just curious if this phone i different
The default kernel won't overclock, setcpu can perflock the stock HTC Sense based kernel and allow underclocking for better battery preservation.
You can download chad's incredikernel, lou's kernels or ziggy's for Sense-based kernels that can be overclocked.
I don't know about the widget but on setcpu I have mine set to the highest with performence settings.
wao im confused know,do i need a kernel.thanks...
A lot of kernels have oc capabilities, but you still need SetCPU to tell it what speeds to run at and such. CM7 has this functionality built right into the CM Settings.
It will depend on what ROM you're using, and what kernel you're using.

will ziggys chad's incredikernel, lou's kernels or ziggy's kernels work for new sense 2.1 or 2.2?
Depending on what version they are. IDK what version the new kernels are but the sense 1 kernels are 2.6.32-17. IMO overclocking an incredible doesnt offer that much of a performance gain, it can only be bumped up by about 150-200mhz as compared to the other devices which can do 300-700mhz.

All Froyo-based ROMs should be covered by those three kernel builders. Unfortunately those also are about the only active kernel devs that are supporting Sense-based kernels, the majority are AOSP.
Has anyone thought of tweaking with the voltages on the incredible kernels. I also own a Nook Color and they thought 1.1 was the max for us until dal messed with the voltages and a few other things under the hood. If it gets us gains with running features on newer roms (sense 3.0) it might be worth exploring the possibilities.
dont forget my post please. I need more information, thanks..
Hi guys,
Would love to know your opinion about the best custom kernel to go along with stock Android.
Please share your experience.
Stuxnet is good for me
I have been using franco's since I received my N4 and haven't really been attracted to anything else.

Ive heard it has some issues qith the latest r214 build. Would love to try but looking for it to be a bit more stable
if you are a one time flasher (ie you like to flash and not tweak the kernel or anything) - Franco, Mirage are suitable for you.
if you like to tweak the kernel, you can use - hellscore, Hellsdoctor or ak - its not that these kernels' defaults are not good, its just that they can be more optimised with profiles with synapse - for eg ones from gorilla_p (bit.ly/makostuff).
if you like kernel tweaking with dedicated apps - faux or Semaphore kernels.
i am not able to give you a more comprehensible reply because you haven't specified what feature you are looking for - more SOT or better performance.
more SOT - HD or ak
better performance - Franco

Thanks @Theodeus
I've heard a lot about hellscore and hellsdoctor.
I'm looking for a good balance between performance and battery life.
Ive heard that franco gives a good standby time as it only uses 1 ir 2 cores in stand by.
Do hellsdoctor also offer the same. Im using tricksterMOD now and don't mind a bit of tweaking as well

3 to 5hrs SOT. Little gaming will put you between 3-4hrs, no gaming 4hr-5hr

So, I noticed that the phone heats up significantly more while using a custom ROM. All I've tried do it (purenexus, exodus, cm). Right now I'm running trupurexmm and it's fine, presumably because it's modified stock. Does anyone know why this happens, or can recommend a good 6.0.1 ROM that doesn't?
Thanks!
Sorry I can't make a recommendation, but I assume the reason the modified stock and stock ROMs run cooler is CM and various others most likely lack the stock thermal-engine config which controls CPU throttling and hot-plugging.

Is there a fix for this that you know of?
I'm running CM right now and have used two other custom ROMs. All of them run hot at first, there's a lot going on after flashing a ROM and it's CPU extensive so they will get hot. After the dalvik gets rebuilt and everything settles down the temps return to normal. All the kernels have thermal throttling of some sort otherwise the phones would self destruct.
My limited experience with CM on a couple of phones is that the CPU governor doesn't work. There have been numerous fixes recently that help but it still doesn't work as well as stock overall. Stock was a bit jerky, so there are a few cases where the CM governor might feel better.

Not that I know of.. maybe a custom kernel? Not sure if CM's kernel is configurable as far as changing CPU hot-plugging and throttling thresholds.

Hahahahahaha. No worries my friend. Guess I'd better break out my special Binford 2000 hyper kernel!! ???
Stock rom, rooted on January security patch and EviraKernel. I have a bunch of my own tweaked kernel values though. From my own personal experience, EviraKernel runs the best with smoothest ui experience on my phone.
how do these scores actually affect real life usage.... better battery life??
And here's with performance governor turned on cpu's and gpu. Gave me a decent little boost

I have literally just about doubled my screen on time over when I was a stock Pixel 2 XL. I can get almost 8hrs with moderate use. It's fantastic and an upgrade in every way at least for me.

Hey, so sorry for such a late response. I have noticed after flashing EviraKernel 1.08 that my custom kernel configuration has much less of a noticeable difference. It is to the point where I have not applied any of my own settings on top of 1.08, just not enough to gain in my opinion to go through the effort of changing the various kernel values with a root browser. If you are still interested I can write up a .txt doc for you with the parameter location and value I set. For reference I'm attaching a screenshot of a benchmark I ran with no custom settings that you can see is not much slower than the benchmarks I've uploaded in my posts above.
