Watch display sizes / large watches? - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Am I the only one that prefers a larger display size? I had the original moto 360 (46mm / 1.56" display) and I absolutely loved the large watch face. Most of my regular (non-smartwatch) watches are also large watch faces.
Why is it that all the new Android Wear watches have such small display sizes. Other than the Moto 360, have you found any Android watches that have a 1.5"+ screen size?
My Moto 360 recently died and I've been holding off waiting for new "Pixel" watches, or large display watches and I feel like I may be waiting forever.
What do you all think? Am I a minority in wanting such a large watch?

I agree. I think they are trying to cater to smaller wrists (women) who are gravitating to the small Apple Watch. I like a bigger display. If a new watch comes out that's no bigger than my Urbane, forget it.

..in my letter to Santa Claus this year I asked him for a much bigger Huawei Watch, like 52mm display size, with a bigger louder speaker that streams audio from my phone (for spoken Google Results, spoken language translation, and tts notifications from messaging apps etc) and a 600ma battery and 22mm band size. Xmas is not far off and I can't wait for Santa to bring it for me!

Join the club, the Casio WSD-F10 is a giant; highly recommended.. lots of screen space.

Samsung Galaxy Note - my review

Hi everyone, I'm not much of a forum poster per se, but the immense sense of satisfaction if I dare call it that this device has given me I wanted to share with the community and perhaps sway people that are on the verge of deciding whether to take the plunge or not.
Little demographic info because I believe it will influence this short review since the device itself falls under a sort of intermediary category (phone/tablet). I am month away from 30 years of age, 181 cm tall, big giant head, small hands .
-----
• Size and handling:
The SG Note in my palm, feels like a phone. I have by no means large palms, and the general feel is that the device is perfectly operational with 1 hand with the exception of typing. It's doable but the device has to be positioned so it's bottom edge in portrait lies on the little finger, then the whole on-screen keyboard is accesible with the thumb. In other words, for my type of usage, I'd even dare to ask for an even bigger screen, 5.5"-5.65" and even then I'd be using it as an all-in-one device.
Positioned next to the ear, you might get asked the "what's that question" but teen insecurities are long behind me so I don't give a damn of other people's opinion when it comes to my style or appearance let along gadgets I use. Small talk is for the weak.
In the pocket, the phone can fit just about any size, front/back pockets. So this is a non-issue when it comes to transport. I prefer wearing it in my front pockets. It doesn't create any noticeable bulge. Minor exception might be extremely elegant silk suits, but that's couple times a year scenario for me, and even then, the front jacket pockets would do just fine.
7.5/10 for size and handling (I'd give 9 to SGS2, 9.5 to HTC sensation)
• Weight:
With it's 178g, the device is light and easy to work and hold in the hands for prolonged periods of time. I've watched a full video without having to switch hands or body position, something I frequently do when using a tablet or a netbook. It's weight isn't felt even when worn in the front pockets of loose trousers, so you won't be getting that uncomfortable feel of unbalance and a weight pulling down.
8/10 for size and handling (I'd give 10 to SGS2, 8.5 to HTC sensation)
• Display:
In order to comment of the display, I have to mention previous handheld/PDA/cell phone history: Palm Vx, Nokia 6600, Dell Axim X5, Toshiba 640x480, Iphone 2G, Nokia E90, Nokia N900, HTC HD2, HTC Desire, Nokia N8, HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy S2.
And without hesitation I'd like to declare that SG Note offers the best viewing experience out of any of the aforementioned devices. It's a perfect blend of resolution and picture quality.
- Black color: 95% pure black. SGS2 has perfect, 100% black tones, and Note, in a pitch dark room can distinguish between absolute darkness and on-screen tones. But it would be an extreme nit-picking if anyone finds this objectionable since the difference is so miniscule that doubt any sane person or even extreme gadget/visuals freak will find it objectionable. Introducing ambient light in the room, makes the on screen black appear as perfect blacks.
- White color: perfect white! Unlike my SGS2 which was simply put blue, in the 6400K range, the SG Note has extremely accurate white color tones. Beats my IPS apple cinema display 30" / 27" setup. Not having a true white color made browsing and watching web sites unbearable of the SGS2, outweighing to a big extend the joy from watching 720p videos.
- Contrast, saturation and brightness : Perfect. Unlike SGS2 where red/green/blue was heavily over saturated, the balance here is perfect. Everything is easy on the eye, colors pop-up just enough to make you want to stare for a long time admiring HD pictures, videos or simply browsing your favourite sites. You don't get tired when watching the screen.
In a way, all the benefits or Super amoled combined with all the benefits from an IPS display technology.
The resolution, paired with 5.3" or real estate, is something I've been waiting since I first got my hands on a mobile device. Sole reason I've changed devices was having the need for getting the highest resolution on an ideal size (4.5-6"). Although Iphone 4 had and still has the highest PPI, the 3.5" makes it useless for my needs.
1280x800, on a 5.3", + the contrast, tonal clarity, 0% light bleeds/leaks or similar effects, only 1 stuck sub pixel (stuck red, unnoticable in daily use) - make it the best panel I've ever seen.
9.5/10 (I'd give 8.5 to SGS2, 7.5 to HTC sensation)
(To be continued)
nice review...
I would also add:
-GPS lock is simply the best from everything I used before the Note
-I wish the white color is more whiter (like in the iPhone4)
-the s-Pen could have been positioned located in a better place
- amazingly amazing for gaming
- try watching movies via HDMI using MHL on 1080p (when I demo this to my friends they go nuts)
- connect it to a screen and bluetooth key-mouse
the bueaty of the Note is that it does not lag, slow it is just snap... something I missed from the iPhone4.... it just need to get better and this should be fixed with ICS
Simple word to discribe it is "AMAZING!!" all my co workers at work are amaze of its!! I do have htc phone before, but no one feel anything. Until i own this note, everyone looks to me differently now..lol

Other Smartwatch Criteria - Reviews

Hi guys,
I am diving deep into smart watches under $100, Chinese brands are OK. I saw my dad had bought a $25 cheap one from Craig's list that had more features than the $100 I spent for my Moto 360. I feel like downgrading.
I don't require 3G or SIM, but I am interested in the best quality screen (preferably resolution greater than 320x320 using AMOLED for dark blacks but I assume that will raise cost), can be square or circle, with speaker/mic and continuous heart rate / sleep tracking that potentially integrates with Google Fit or with strong apps of its own. And with strong battery life.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

NO.1 G6 vs. S9?

Hiya! I'm looking for a cheaper smartwatch for when I don't feel like tearing up my Android Wear one.
I think I've narrowed it down to the NO.1 S9 or the G6. Both seem to have the same processor, same resolution, and close to the same price. Can anyone speak to the difference between the two?
Cheers!
dont hesitate
They are both good watches. One of my firends bought the G6 and I got the S9. I used his G6 first, main difference is G6's screen size is a little bit smaller than S9's ( G6 1.2inch, S9 1.3inch). The other thing is, the push buttons are on the right size, they are low profiled on G6 where S9's are much more visible and I think S9 got metal buttons( not so sure but feels like they are).
Software wise, both watches have similar functions with exact titles but with different icon designs. And also some stock watch faces are different. They both have 5 stock ones and custom face area for 3 more.
I hope this helps.
BTW. S9's usb charger port protection cover is much more difficult to open, I prefer not to fully close, just leave a small piece to catch it with my nails for my next charge.

Is it possible answer emails or whatsapp?
Hi #Capi66,
I can't answer Yahoo email from watch nor I can read it. Not sure about WhatsApp since I don't use it but I can't even see the message I received on Viber but you can read and reply regular SMS messages

LG G6 Media Consumption?

I've recently been looking to get a new phone, and I have narrowed it down to the oneplus 3T or the LG G6 (I found somewhere to buy it for around £350). I watch a lot of TV and films on my phone, so I was wondering what people think of the LG G6 for watching videos? How would it compare to my current Moto X style, which has a 5.7 inch screen, but is 16:9? Would a oneplus 3T be better for videos?
I don't know much about the screen on the Moto X Style. LG G6 uses IPS technology, OnePlus 3t uses amoled. Most people (not me) think amoled looks better. G6 has better screen resolution, but I do not think this matters on a screen that small. Youtube videos have black bars on the sides due to the 18/9 aspect ratio of the G6. In the end both are fine and it is a matter of personal preference.
Thanks for the reply,
I was mainly talking about screensize, sorry for the badly worded question.
What I'm trying to say is do you think that the LG G6 has a big enough screen to watch films etc since most videos are 16:9 and the phone is 18:9 so videos don't use the full, or is it too small for watching lots of videos?
I'm saying this because I worked out that when 16:9 videos play on the g6's screen, they take up the equivalent of a 5.1 inch screen, which in my opinion is slightly small for watching videos, so I wanted to see the opinions of people who use the phone.
Thanks for replying
Well I have watched utube videos is both resolutions and I haven't noticed any difference but g6 screen is larger than it appears and it takes little getting used to but ips led panel has better picture and amoleds have screen burn in so beware of that.

People still on Note Pro 12.2, will you be jumping ship to the Galaxy Tab S7 Plus?

I personally am thinking about it but the bigger screen uses AMOLED, which is a turn-off for me with regards to longevity but the other model feels like a downgrade in terms of screen size.
How about you guys?
For the amount of money the ask, no.
Maybe with future discounts.
I've been reluctant to give up on my unlocked Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 with the original keyboard. As long as I can get a decent price on the Bay for the 12.2, I'm gonna be picking up the S7+.

Yeah, it's literally double the amount that I paid for for the Note Pro. I've seen it IRL and it's smaller but I'm not that impressed and it uses AMOLED, which is a big turn off. The S7 would have been nice but the screen downgrade stings.
For that price, why not go for any windows machine with an aspect ratio that doesn't letterbox everything?Assuming you use it for media consumption anyway.
Wish it was easier to find a reasonably priced replacement for this old boy though.
I was going to the S7+ 5G , because the P905 is now so slow, that I can't use them anymore to play pinball. Interesting fact is, that it was possible in history....Also if I fall back to the stock rom with minimal apps...The games freeze more or less.
The S7 is another Liga...but if I think of the price 6years ago for the P905...it was nearly the same
Not until the price comes way down, or I get a second hand one. Plus I want to see if anyone roots it and begins providing OS updates, given manufacturers all have a history of quickly cutting us adrift regarding updates.
I cut out a sheet of paper the same size as the S7+ screen yesterday and laid it over my Note Pro. The S7+ display is only a few mm difference.
I have waited for the S7+ but its 16:10 aspect ratio irritates me. I don't know why Android manufacturers are fixated on it. Samsung has cut out a large number of potential purchasers by not adopting something closer to the 4:3 aspect ratio of ipads. While I realize it's because most movies fit that better, ipad users watch plenty of video too and it doesn't seem to be hindering ipad sales any.
One examples of buyers they've cut out are the many people who deal with anything related to paper. Turn a tablet vertical to read documents and the 4:3 aspect ratio is a much closer fit. Whereas the 16:10 aspect ratio is narrower with bars of blank space top and bottom. This narrower width compared to its height also makes text smaller.
To match the width (and therefore text size) as a sheet of A4 paper on a 16:10 screen, you must go all the way up to 17". Whereas a 15" 4:3 screen is perfect.
Another group of buyers driven away (not all of course, but many) are musicians. Those musicians who use tablets mostly go with ipads, which are not ideal either because ipad pro screens are still smaller than paper. But at least they're much closer to paper aspect ratio without the 'side scrunch' and black bars of 16:10.
There are e-ink devices made specifically for musicians. But they're far too expensive given the typically ONLY good things about them is their e-ink screens, and due to that, long battery life. But their lack of features, limited hardware like processors, storage, and lack of provision for peripherals are pitiful to ridiculous given their price.
