Ok, I have been waiting for this phone for a while now (Sero plan, had to wait to Oct 1st)
Finally get it and it is acting up, not a good first impression.
Phone seems to "freeze". The screen just becomes unresponsive. Nothing is reflected as being done but I think the phone is still operating because when I took out the battery and restarted the phone, my txt draft was different from when the screen locked up (I was randomly pressing buttons on the keyboard after the screen locked)
The screen does not black out, it just freezes randomly. I can't press any buttons to do anything, I can only power off the screen and power it back on in which case it comes back to the frozen screen. My only option is to then take out the battery. Anyone have this occur to them? I don't like the idea of having to go to a store for a replacement 2 days after I received the phone..

Sorry I don't have a solution to your problem, but...
I'd do a factory reset before you take it back, back everything up, do the reset, and then restore it. A factory reset can work wonders for some odd problems.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8448259#post8448259
Easiest way to restore is to use Clockwork Recovery on a rooted phone. 1 option to back everything up, wipe all the caches in Clockwork, factory reset the phone, restore the backup in Clockwork. Shouldn't take more than 15 mins. See the developers forum on instructions on how to root and install Clockwork.
I agree your first step should be a backup/reset. If that doesn't fix the problem then swap it with a new one. I had serious freezing issues with my first Epic and eventually had to return it for a new one. Second one has run perfectly since.

Agreed. Freezing is a hardware defect. Backup. Wipe. Check it out.
i've noticed this freeze always occurs on my phone when my it's idle. It seems to only occur when I leave the GPS on and it appears to be searching causing it to freeze.
Hi guys
I have moved from iPhone to a note 4 and loving it!
I was just wondering if anyone has found the touch screen occasionally doesn't respond to their touch and you have to touch it again. On the iPhone it only ever missed a touch if my finger was in the wrong place, but it never happened on the keyboard. Every so often maybe 5/6 times a day I touch a key on the keyboard and nothing happens, when I try again it's fine. I can't reproduce it, because when I tap anywhere on the keyboard something gets pressed. I was just wondering if this was normal?
Hope you are enjoying your phones!!
Anyone?
It's most likely cause your palm is on the phone. One of the downsides of a slim bezel on a big phone. Also keep in mind if your spen is on the screen, your fingers won't work. A case might help.
I thought about another part of my hand touching the screen, however with half my hand layed across my keyboard I can still type with the other hand. Thanks for the response
I Pele tried factory resetting today and not installed any apps, but it is still happening
I rang Samsung this morning and they advised I return I to the store and get an exchange. Luckily my local store got its first batch of note 4s in this morning and they swapped it out. I restored it all firmware updates put on it and now works fine! The only thing I haven't installed is a Google play system update thing. I was wondering if that was the cause x
Similar issues
I've had similar issues (in fact, that's what brought me here in the first place). Initially, I was able to tap on the screen in the text box and then continue typing (I use Swype). However, now my messaging app (default Messages) just freezes up, forcing me to close the app, clear the memory, and relaunch the app before continuing.
Were you using the default app and/or Swype when you had issues? I'm going to try to factory reset my phone to see if it helps.
It's taken a couple of weeks for this problem to develop, so please keep us posted if this problem arises again on your new phone!
Edit: Also want to point out that when I text, I use one hand to hold the phone and only a finger to swipe my text. As such, only the one finger touches the screen.
unable to use touch screen. only hard key were working >>Note4

Same thing happened to me last night. The touchscreen became unresponsive while using chrome. The phone was a little warm but not bad. I didn't try the pen, sounds like a good idea. I am not certain it was a touch screen issue with mine. Almost more of a processor issue. I got the phone to lock. After pressing the menu or lock button to wake the screen it would take 5-10 seconds to wake. Then I could swipe my unlock pattern. It would not show any lines. I would wait, the screen would turn black after timing out in about 5s. The about 5s after I could hear the speaker make the unlock sound. I ended up doing a battery pull and that fixed the issue. Anyone else have something similar?
Should I try and replace it?

Observe to see if it happens when you're using other apps too. Chrome has been notorious for causing all sorts of problems, like reboots, freezes, etc on some devices.
Also it may be worth installing Chrome Samsung Support Library.

Got the same problem after 2 months of normal usage... I initially though I had installed a third party application which was causing the system freeze but this was not the problem.
- tried factory resetting and not installed any apps, but it is still happening
- When this happens if I take out the spen .... surprise it work. The pen allows me to do anything... But the touch screen does not work with fingers...
- I used the pen to reboot the note4... Still the same problem after reboot... I ended up doing a battery pull and that fixed the issue for.... a couple of minutes... Then the problem came back....
The only solution remaining was to return the phone.... They gave me a Note3 while my Note4 is being repaired...
That's a shame for a product of that price!
:crying:
Same thing is happening with my 2 months old note4 since two weeks ago. An horizontal line 1.5cm in width about 1/3 from the bottom of the screen, became unresponsive. At reboot it works sometimes then it becomes unresponsive again. It looks like in the image I attached, the difference is that the area is horizontal, not vertical. I'm taking my note4 to the store today for warranty, hopefully they will replace it. I haven't abused the device in any way, I have a screen protector since its first day.. I really hope this isn't a serious problem that affects many users.
Just like some of you mentioned above, the pen has no issues on any area of the screen.
Cheers!

same thing happen to my note4 today. the only difference is that yours was fixed for a couple of minutes after removing the battery. my note4 wasn't fixed after that. Only S-pen works, touch screen with fingers wont work. you mentioned you're note4 is getting repaired, did they tell you what may have happened to it so that i'll get an idea of the cause..

Never purchase a device without a return / DOA policy. Not worth the hassle. If it hasn't been 30 days, you should call your credit card company or Paypal and place the amount on dispute, wait, you purchased from another market, please tell you didn't pay by cash.

I have this problem after I flash CWM recovery, before this was flashed with twrp recovery, I reflash stock rom with odin, I flash many times CWM and TWRP and I still have the problem, my warranty it's void now but I think to go at Samsung store to see if they solve my problem. This problem look like a driver for touch corrupted, if somebody find it out how to fix or have any ideea please weritte here, thanks you
I've started to have this problem as well, lower part of the left side of the screen sometimes registers touch instead of scrolling! Very annoying, tried to update recovery, tried tapping screen, doesn't help. The worst thing is I cannot reproduce the issue at will... It seems pretty random.

Unfortunately, if the phone is on Verizon, the dialing codes will be disabled.
Potential fix.
Please excuse the necropost But I came here looking for a solution from google and others may too. I found a way to solve this issue/s.
There appear to be two issues affecting this.
1. Overloading the processor.
2. Static.
If your touch input is lagging or doesn't register at all but then suddenly does a few moments later, its likely a type 1. problem. I fixed this by disabling resource intensive features such as s voice. This also improved battery life and overall performance considerably.
If touch simply doesn't work at all, but s pen works fine then the problem is more likely type 2. That being static buildup in your person. Simply touch something that can ground you and it should fix the issue. A metal tap should work. Be wary, you might even get a little zap as you discharge
Dear all!
Been having issues for the past couple of months with my S7 Edge. At first, the screen kept screwing up, showing horizontal pixelated lines across the screen before rebooting itself (sometimes repeatedly) and overheating. Got to the point where it simply wouldn't stay for longer than a few minutes before going through this process all over again.
Initially put it down to an app (couldn't figure out which, if any) and restored it to factory settings. This in itself was a mission since it wouldn't stay on for very long without rebooting itself!
This seemed to work, until 2 weeks later (present time) I realised I needed a file explorer and returned to ES File Explorer (due to familiarity) which I'm not a fan of since all the frustrating crap that comes with it now and as soon as it was installed, the phone shut down and the same original ****-up occurred.
I've tried all the various combinations of start-up buttons and nothing works. Plugging it in to charge via a socket or a PC has no effect whatsoever. It doesn't even get recognised by the PC, whereas previously plugging it in did force it to start and charge.
I'm at a loss of what to try so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Its probably hardware issue
But it kinda sounds like bad software
You would need a new motherboard if its still under warranty then goto Samsung store
You would need to go regardless
Did you previously root the device or flash anything etc....

Yeah, going to a store was my last resort but I suppose I should make the most of my warranty. Just wanted to avoid it to be honest!
I haven't done either, it's pretty much stock!
So did you get it replaced?
my phone random reboot itself, all of the time this 2 happens time, phone was locked, and i heard vibration and i see samsung galaxy note 3 logo on screen and loading samsung logo, why itself reboot? now for this day second 2 times , before was reboot itself ughhh i cant remember but 2017-06-04 , maybe battery fault? i dont know, i dont wanna waste money for centre shop. because i dont wanna repair this phone.
*** mod edit, added the following description by @myka_1997 from a duplicate thread:
of course wifi always scanning off - unchecked , passpoint unchecked, everything in wifi additional settings is unchecked. no matter that is unchecked and checked. PHONE STILL KEEPS RESTARTING FOR NO REASON. Hmm, my phone screen crack, from face front camera, but since yesterday i had no issues with reboots , yesterday started. i do wipe data factory reset, cache clear, and reinstall software lollipop. dont helped. so where the reboot problem? i dont used sd card now. when i put sd card no corrupted phone still reboots 30 times per day. from now.
***
Best recommendation is to re-flash to stock and test. Maybe some app is causing these reboots.
i flashed many times..... to stock...... nothing .... still...
Me too. Ny note reboot itself every 1-2 minute. And something force closed everytime.
After check to samsung servixe centre. They tell me if my mainboard is broken
oh dear.. my phone cracked from facing front camera. reboots every day one time. i pull out sd card.
If your phone has a cracked screen it means you've dropped it. If you've dropped it, it means you probably did some damage to it. You can't just drop a phone and expect it to work flawlessly for ever. Even if there was no sign of malfunction when you dropped it, odds are that it will stop working sooner than one can expect. Either try a new battery or just buy a new phone.
Might be hardware issue, already experience this, you need to unscrew note 3 and tighten back something at top side, it is hard to say. This one better watch youtube.
Looks like common problem, suspect it surfaced after recent upgrade to Oreo. There is a popup that says "Can't read fingerprint blah blah, if problem persists, reboot". Trying to access the fingerprint option, it is also gone from the Settings menu. Also have multiple agents with given administrative rights since I use this phone to access office emails and stuff, it does give them the right to delete fingerprints i suppose, but somehow it just happened out of the blue one day. Repeated rebooting, holding down both volume up and down type of rebooting, clearing cache, doesn't help. Based on simple search it is common enough this problem, but no good solution.' Stock, non root.
Will be grateful if anyone has any ideas. Thanks.

Try this. Turn off phone. Hold down power and volume Up and Down together for 10 seconds. It will start in hardware control mode presss power button and phone will restart. This should clear the fault.
Thanks for the suggestion, Sir! Much appreciated.
Actually that was one of the things I tried as well, didn't work though.

Try squeezing the phone a bit in the area between the power button and cameras. I've heard multiple reports of this working. Seems to be a not-so-great physical connection to the sensor. The newer software may be more picky about it.
I have the sprint variant. My fingerprint reader went out some months ago. I've heard some people were able to get it back, but I wasn't one of them. I'm glad I had the second year warranty now. I had to send it in to LG. They are sending me a whole new phone.

The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I tried everything possible, but nothing worked. I only had a year of warranty, and it had just expired 3 days ago. I had to send it to the LG service center. They replaced the entire back panel and put it back using the water resistant glue (I did end up paying for the repair). But my phone is as good as new. I suggest you do the same thing if you want it fixed.
This worked perfectly for my lg g6. You're a life saver. Thanks so much

Worked for me also. Thanks!
I replaced the glass back and fingerprint sensor myself....and trust me, when it comes to ANYTHING D.I.Y. I am useless....but even I found it simple.
Matt
In most cases is just a sealing tape stratify itself and because of this fingerprint sensor lose connection. Before you replace whole back and sensor you can try to replace sealing tape, in 90% cases I had with G6 it helped.
I solved it with another trick
I removed back cover and noticed the erased thermal paste under motherboard on SoC and glass panel
I cleaned it and applied new one put back cover now it is working without problem
Squeez is not permanent solution
