I just upgraded to the new AICP Nougat, no issues, except for a small nuisance where it will read the SD card i have formatted as internal storage as blank in the OS, however when I transfered files through TWRP (cuz PC to OS is super slow) it shows my files there. I've done the same method in the same directory before with no troubles (PC to external_sdcard/ via usb). Rebooted into recovery after finding out this issue, and it still shows the same files in external_sdcard. What did I do wrong?

OK, something weird just started happening. For some reason, my Win 7 PC will not display the contents of my micro sd card when I connect my A500 to my pc. My pc recognizes the connection as soon as I plug it in, the dialog box asking if you want to open the folder comes up, all of the files on the internal sd partition are viewable, but when I click on the ext sd card it opens and nothing is displayed. I took the micro sd card out of the a500 and put it in a usb reader and everything was fine. All files were there and accessible. I even ran checkdisk on it and defragged it. I stuck it back in the a500, rebooted, and connected it to the pc and still nothing is displayed when I click on the sd card. This wouldn't be a big deal but now it makes it real difficult to move any files to my a500 from my pc. I have to copy it to internal memory and then move it to the ext sd using a file manager on the a500. If anyone knows of a solution please chime in.
My a500 is currently running a stock rooted 3.2.1 with all the latest updates installed.

I had similar problem to u except I only had internal storage showing on PC. You can try this - Remove micro sd put it in a usb reader and transfer any file to it, I just used an apk, put it back in tab, connect USB to PC, uncheck USB debugging and you should have access to both internal and external sd.
The weird thing is i'm sure i never had to disable USB debug before I could see external contents. In Device Manager under Portable Devices if USB debug is checked my tab shows up as "MTP" and will not show in win exp. If I uncheck it then it shows as "Acer ICONIA TAB A500" and I can access . Can anyone tell me if this is normal behaviour??? I'm running rooted stock 3.2.1/Win 7. thanks
I had similar problem with no external SD card display when I connected my tablet. Recently, I updated the Android SDK and all of a sudden, my PC displays the external SD card. I am currently using rooted Honeylicious 3.2.1 with the latest recovery RA 3.14

I'll try that, I am running the exact same thing. I have run several roms before going back to stock rooted and I believe the stock rooted was displaying it properly. I can't think of what might have changed on my computer but I will hunt down the android sdk and download it and see if that changes. I have tried several different drivers for the acer with no improvement.
Similar Issue
I have a similar issue. The Music folder doesn't show up, but all the other folders and files are available.
I noticed when I select properties of the sd card in windows explorer it says under file system: Generic Hierarchical. What the hell is that?? Shouldn't it say FAT32?? Also, up on the top or the windows explorer windows when you have details selected under view it has Name, type, size, track number, and artist as the headers. Luckily, I backed up the sd card the other day to my computer so I'm going to take the sd card out and format it and copy everything back and see if that fixes it.
Anybod work out how to fix it I am using stock 3.2.1 and contents of external sd not visable from pc. Internal sd shows contents no problem.
I Think this is a issue due to the original format of the sd card. I to had a similar issue.. I copied everything off the sd card into my pc to back it up.. then put the card into my android phone and formatted it.. Put card back in win7 pc copied files back to card then put it back in the tablet.. CONNECTED usb cable and all is well.. this was months ago. The issue started all at once for me as well. And i do know the card was originally formatted in my pc... This was talked about alot with flashing rom issues as well as not seeing card thru adb..
This is worth a try .. LET me know if it work or not..
Erica Renee.. the BLONDE ANDROID CHIC WATCHING OVER YOU..
no, didn't work for me erica - the weirdest thing is I can see everything fine from my win7 laptop but not on my win7 desktop - until I disable USB Debug then everything is fine??? I think my issue is drivers - i'm loathe to change them tho as it took forever to get ADB working successfully and not too much of a prob to disable USB debug - it would be nice if someone was able to come up with a definitive solution tho
acer uses mtd in order to sync your data. It also allows you the tablet to continue using the internal memory while allowing access to it at the same time. If you are to change it from mtd to a regular drive then the Acer sync will not work and you will lose access to the memory from the tablet while connected to PC.
I believe I read the sdcard slot was only there to allow you to copy items to the tablet. Maybe they changed it with a early update.
When it is in mtd mode the system does not see the memory directly. That is why you do not see fat32. Just Google mtd storage and you will understand.
One of the biggest reason to move on to custom rom for our condor was storage issue.
Now since any of the apps/mods/script doesn't seems to work on Marshmallow roms to fix that issue (pardon me if I'm wrong here).
Resurrection Remix 5.6.0 seems to fix that all.
So far I've tried three marshmallow roms.
First : CM 13(Unofficial)
External Sd card adoption works fine in this rom but after that you can't directly move files to your card because it won't be detected on your pc. After connecting through usb cable only internal storage shows up.
Second : CyanPop 4.3
External Sd card adoption didn't worked on this one
Third : Resurrection Remix 5.6.0
External Sd card adoption works perfectly fine here. Plus you can directly move files to your sd card. After connecting through usb cable Sd card storage shows up. One more thing only sd card storage shows up and not the phone's internal storage (I guess it's pretty much fine).
When sd card removed from the phone and inserted through card reader or any other means it doesn't show up which is pretty much self-explained.
So overall resurrection remix seems doing fine regarding storage issues. So cheers :good:
Then check this out...

I've seen many people reporting that foldermount isn't working on MM though haven't tried yet.
Will try it
Micromax A300 on Resurruction remix
I am currently facing similar issue. The phone has 25 GB of total storage which is partitioned as 1.48 GB for internal memory and the rest is made as an internal SD card. No available SD slot. Now the file manager does not detect the SD storage at all and the images and videos are being saved into the 1.48 partition. Can you please give a detailed guide on how i can restore my internal SD? The Rom Version is LP-v-5.5.0
Thanks in advance

My SD Card won't format as internal storage and it didn't work but it worked on my uncle's phone (LOS 15) that it worked and i've also tried a different card and it still didn't work and i'm running RRN 5.8.5
Hi guys,
I've done a lot of research into this and have read multiple posts about it, but can't seem to find a decent solution....
Basically, adoptable storage on 6.0 will format the SD card in such a way that only your phone can recognize it. TWRP and your PC won't be able to read the SD card at all. In that case, what's the best way to bypass this?
I'm assuming that you just format 50% of the card as adoptable storage, so the rest can be used by TWRP/PC? It just seems kind of annoying because if you need to flash a new ROM, or if your ROM has issues etc, you'd have to constantly move the data to your SD card's normal storage, otherwise it's unreadable. I'm talking about stuff like Titanium Backups, which I believe can't be saved onto the normal SD card storage, etc.
Looks like I found the answer myself.
Don't bother using that script from Modaco (unless you're on stock 6.0 ROMs). Just format the card as adoptable SD in the ROM itself (I'm using Resurrection Remix), then reboot. Your PC will pick up the SD card via MTP no problem. If that doesn't work, boot into TWRP (make sure you're using 3.0.2.2-test as of this current writing) and select micro-SD (adoptable storage). It should show up via MTP as well.
Looks like nothing is affected as TWRP and my PC can still read the card despite being formatted as adoptable. Problem solved.
Update 2:
If you are using stock official ROM, then adoptable storage won't be visible via MTP. You can use TWRP to access it though, but make sure you're using the latest TWRP. On the phone itself, you can use something like Root Explorer and browse to the following path to access the adoptable storage contents:
/mnt/expand/xyzblahblah/media/0
the xyzblahblah part is a long random string. It might look different on your phone.
Note that Titanium Backup can't recognize this path. You can browse to it, but it can't access it. Best to format your card as 50/50 adoptable/portable storage.
I'm in recovery it won't recognize an external sd card or usb drive. How can I exit TWRP rebooting doesn't help? I'll transfer to internal and redo the process.
Im in the same boat.. I installed the Android TV rom and i made my sd card as internal and now when i get into twrp i can't even see my contents inside my internal nor my external.. I don't know what to do.
Hi
OK, so this is my question: I just installed LineageOS 15.0 on my XT1685 . And when I was using the stock ROM (N), I used my SD card to store pictures, videos, etc. After installing O, this option seemed to have disappeared for some reason. First, I couldn't get to choose save location from the stock camera app that came with the Gapps ( https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634797336 ). Then I tried installing Open Camera, but then I got this issue with not being able to write to the SD card (see attachment).
At this point my SD card was formatted as "portable". And I just could NOT get Oreo to understand that I wanted to use it as a default for storing pictures and video. After a while I gave up, and re-formatted as "internal". Which basicly means that now the phone's storage and the external storage are kinda "integrated" in a way.. the SD has become a part of a greater whole..
Which leads me to my actual question...:
Why is it that I could not get it to work as it did on Nougat - as portable, basicly..
And also; how to get around this?
Just to be clear, this is a general Android question (I think), NOT a question specific to the Lineage ROM (which is awesome btw, imo!)
Thanks,
- H
I have AOSP Extend Oreo on my g5+. I put open camera on my phone and was able to store pics on the SD card. However, it stopped working and won't store pics at all. I installed the native moto camera app, but it won't let me store pics to the SD card. I'm hoping someone can provide some assistance.
I am on stock Oreo and I currently use my SD as portable. Formatting the sd as Internal eventually led to 3 different corrupted sd cards after some time, so, if your problem is not software-related, try to stick to formatting the card as portable storage.
I only know a part of the problem, which is happening to me too: a while after restarting the phone, I open my SD card in any file manager (I have Total Commander) and it doesn't show any file but both the file manager and the system shows the Sd card's occupied and free spaces, and I've had to dismount and remount the SD card in order to be able to get to any file or folder of it, but several minutes later the files become impossible to access again.
