I like this phone but I HATE softkeys and if I'm even going to keep this phone I need to change the DPI. Is that possible without root currently?
Settings/Display/Display size

It doesn't change the actual DPI. Look at the Now for Reddit for an example. When you use it it condenses the cards to fit more on the screen. However on the V20 it doesn't.

Then that is an exception.
Display size changes the scaling of the whole SystemUI and many apps...like Chrome. I cannot speak for everyone out there. It is a small adjustment, and would be nice if it had more range ofc

And it works fine? Even second screen? I remember on the v10 that command caused a lot of issues, and I wan't to say caused a bootloop if you restarted the phone while running a different density...
Yeah man, works fine, no boot loop and everything seems to scale perfectly so far. It doesnt mess with the second screen.

You can switch the soft keys around in settings.
I ended up at 440 to keep the settings menu happy, still have to use an alternate keyboard at 440 but everything else seems happy that I use this far. Thanks for the DPI change info! Now if I can just get tethering beyond pdanet USB , I'd be good for a while

Certain LG apps can't go below a minimum DPI. On the G3 and G4, this was 530. Anything below that and LG apps would crash. Not sure what the magic number would be on the V20.

This is the single greatest piece of news i've heard about this phone so far. I've been using the LG G5 since launch because there were no good phablets on the market. oh how i miss the screen size!! otherwise i actually really like the G5. I owned a v10 and got rid of it just because i couldn't change the system DPI so this makes me INCREDIBLY happy! Just placed my order for the LG V20 and am absolutely stoked to have a phablet again! Now we just need Root

Correct, LG keyboard kept crashing but the Google keyboard is just as good. I have it at 440 and it's fantastic. I have it hooked to my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, I'm using it like a computer. Soon, I am getting a USB-C / HDMI so I can plug it in my television or monitor and use my phone like a real computer. I did that to my G4 too but it used MicroUSB, not the new USB-C. I found one in Amazon and one reviewer said he used USB-C on his G5 and it recharged the phone while it was connected via HDMI.
Would be nice if I can do it while travelling. I liked hooking up my G4 to the HDMI while staying at hotels without needing to carry my laptop around because it was rooted and I could adjust the DPI but now it's bricked. Don't want to do that on my new V20 but there doesn't seem to be a way to change the DPI on the go without my laptop.
Also, Nougat and some of Google's phones have "Tablet UI" which definitely means smaller fonts.. I looked into Developer Options on my phone, couldn't find it, kind of disappointed.

Hey guys, when I first saw the Verizon edition of our gorgeous phone I nearly cried! Those large tactile and innovative buttons had been replaced with tiny indistinguishable ones, not only that but they also increased the heft it to the point where we now have to have cases specifically designed for the Verizon variant, all this just so Verizon could be "Different" and "Exclusive" Anyway down to my question. Do you guys think theres anyway to retrofit out Verizon phones so that physically, they are the same as the other variants? Rip out the QI charging bits, buttons and case. Then replace with the AT&T Buttons, case ect?

I would think that you would also need the back inside shell as well because the camera bezel itself is also different. Why do you want change it? Everyone else seems to want the wireless charging.

From what I can tell the bezzel around the camera is attached to the same piece as the rear keys. So if I could fine the piece used for att id be set. As to why I dont like the design I feel the same as the author of this review http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013...-gets-caught-living-in-the-shadows-of-giants/
"If you're thinking of getting the Verizon version, throw out everything nice I just said about the back. The Verizon variant has a different design that removes the great looking back pattern and buttons, instead using versions that could best be described as "cheaper." The diagonal inlay is gone. It's been replaced with a flat honeycomb pattern that isn't nearly as pronounced, and the sleek looking buttons were swapped out for a tacky sliver plastic. It really looks like Verizon saw the original version and told LG to bring the price down a bit. The result is something that doesn't look nearly as slick as the original." I think the entire point of having buttons on the back is to make them more easily accessible, which is what LG tried to do before verizon F'ed it up.
I guess nobody realizes that they use a smaller footprint for buttons because of the wireless charging coil.

We understand it, I just dont think its worth it lol. Id rather have a phone the way it was designed and all the other case options that come with it. But seeing how opposed everyone is. I must be overreacting.
I'm sure that people have made that connection. I can see why the OP wants it to be without the wireless charge g and to look the way it was originally designed.
I would have the wirelss charging with those "tiny indistinguishable" buttons if I could!
My guess is by the time you mod the at&t back panels to fit the square camera bezel and ensure the big buttons/notification LED align correctly it would look ugly. I rarely use the rear buttons. When I do I have a LG G2 Ballistic SG Black Case (VERIZON) SG1233-A065 on it, that covers the buttons with rubber buttons that work well for me. I don't touch the camera lens either, and it does not bother me that I covered up the notification light.
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
I thought the same about the look of the Verizon variant. From my studies of the differences on the internals, I'm not entirely sure if the addition of the charging coil would cause for a change in thickness enough to prevent a retrofit into the at&t/whoever models. I've been looking and looking, and immensely surprised at how little I can find. Google is not my friend this night haha

Your digitizer is broken and for N4 it comes with your screen. You have to replace whole things.

I demoed a G6 at Tmobile the other day and saw how to download themes for it. Now on my new G6 from Verizon I don't have the shortcut on the home screen for the LG smart world or whatever and in the settings i can change themes but there's no button to click to download more. I know I clicked one on the demo one at Tmobile. Did Verizon strip us the option for more themes?
Just go to play store and search for lg g6 themes. There's only 5 or 6 right now but there are some very good ones. Some free some paid.

I looked for LG Smart World in the play store but they didn't have it. So i would have to look in the Play Store for themes mixed in with all the other themes for other phones and launchers to find what I'm looking for? I was hoping for a proper app to look at just the themes for this phone. Like on the GS7. They have a built in theme browser for just themes compatible with that phone.
edit: I went to the website for Smart World and it says it's only compatible with LG smartphones and tablets blah blah blah. WTF? I am using a LG Smartphone. What a BS experience.
I tried pasting the link for you. But did not work. Google lg smart world and it'll link you to the app on their OFFICIAL site and you can install from there for easy theme browsing. Seems Verizon did take it off unknown why.

LSpeed is amazing on my s8+ so far.. quick boot and 4k youtube videos are 2 of my favorite options thus far. the phone is freakishly fast and smooth with LSpeed installed. V4A and Lspeed alone are worth 20% of my battery life, but i always travel with a 20,000 mAh power core, a 5500 mAh charging case.. and my truck has 4 outlets in it... so my situation is a but unique.

If I remember right, govtuner is now integrated into LSpeed tweaks. I'm using Performance now. I have LSpeed jacked to the max and am still getting great battery life. Even while tethering.. playing video games and watching movies at work.

Can anyone confirm if restoring a backup of Snapchat with titanium works?

I confirmed this on a couple of threads. Yup my snap chat is working perfectly and i still have root. You can do the same with Pokemon go as well. As long as you don't sign out and you back it up. Then restore after you get root !

Gonna be getting root essentials in a sec. Any way to customise the status bar? Or maybe even a way to display like a, news type scrolling text on the edges of the phone?
