(Video) Pixel XL vs Nexus 6p speaker comparison via Blue Yeti - Google Pixel XL Guides, News, & Discussion

So, I have a Pixel XL, but since the speaker is the same, I would like to share this here as well....
Here is a comparison of the speakers on both devices. I recorded both phones using my Blue Yeti mic to really capture the differences.
I will be doing a few more vids on about my Pixel on my channel, so check if you are interested.

Speaker is one of my concerns

It's cool to have front facing speakers but I think back and wonder just how often I would use them on my Nexus 6. I mean, maybe a few minutes in the evening when I get home from work, but that's about it. At work, I would use the headphone jack, which depends on the DAC within the phone...so the external speakers don't matter at that point.

Same here. Very very rarely was in a situation where it really mattered with my 6P.

I think the Pixel speaker is just great. Especially coming from the S7E. Loud and great quality

Pixel speaker is fine. Thanks for doing that video, it was very cool to see. Really, I can't see it as really accurate though. All through your tests the pixel speaker seems to have a better angle to your mic. These little speakers are highly directional. I don't normally watch a video on the phone with the down firing speaker pointed at my ear.

That's why I did 2 rounds. One with the phones just laying on the table and another with the speakers next to the mic

LG G2 Audio Quality? Hi-Fi Sound?

Hey all, the audio quality from the speakers are supposed to be a selling point of the phone.. not many reviewers speak about it in the video review or even give an example of what it sounds like... so not intuitive and extra frustrating lol. Does anyone have it and can compare it to the HTC one boom sound quality or the Iphone 4s good speaker quality? Now that i have an HTC One, the only way i would go to the LG G2 is if the audio quality from the speakers hold up to the hype LG displayed at their event. replies are appreciated.
Im with you as no review has done anything with the sound. I will say in this phonearena review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVA7jg1KB-k&feature=youtube_gdata_player that he says although the G2 sounds great it doesnt have the depth the htc one has with its boom sound but that still leaves us in the dark.

yeah i watched that yesterday... again left in the dark... i was hoping that it sounded close to the HTC One as it's the best audio i've heard on a phone next to the Iphone 4 and 4s. thanks for the reply!
Are you talking about audio from the external speaker, or audio out to headphones? If external speaker, I'm thinking you'd be disappointed vs. the HTC One, as the G2 only has a single mono speaker on the bottom right as you face the screen. The grill on the bottom left is the microphone.

yeah i was referring to the External speakers and thats a bummer.. i thought they were stereo speakers with two at the bottom... something like the apple has at the bottom of their iphone. I really like the phone from reviews and if the speakers are better than the Note 3 lets say or any other LG smart phone, i may be inclined to get it... seems like no phone is as good as the htc one just yet

I don't know if i'd let the speakers bother you, much. Then again i can't tell you what and what not to do.
A phone will never have audiophile sound from speakers. Sure, we can justify it sounding good because of what it is. I've heard the iphone speakers and i've heard the htc speakers. Yes, for a phone they are great, but that's about it. With that being said, i'd never rock out with phone speakers. They help get the point across, but i'll be reaching for hi-end gear to make those beautiful music notes shine.

right.. but the reason i'm intrigued is because they're supposed to be really good.. LG had a presentation on the speakers. The Htc one sounds very very good.. it could come out of the box louder but there's a way you can make them louder and still sound crisp. It's second to none i've tried so far. going to something lesser than hurts the mind and deprives the ears when you know there's a better option.

and i was just looking at the phone and it does look like two speakers at the bottom left and right. are you sure?
The Hi-Fi sound is in regards to being able to play 24 bit/192kHz Hi-Fi playback. The only way to take advantage of this is having high enough quality media and using a nice set of headphones. The external speaker has nothing to do with this, and from what I've seen it's not all that great.

99.9% sure, based on a post I read from someone who already has the phone, as well as the phone's manual, which only draws a line to one grill with the "Speaker" label. No manual is perfect, but I'm fairly confident that a split line would have been drawn to each grill if it had stereo external speakers.
Right side is the only speaker. It sounds better than the GS4, but not as good as the HTC One.

Look at the Verizon version... It has speakers only on right side.

No version has 2 speakers, the other grill is the mic.

The speaker(s) on the lg g2 do sound better than the s3. Can't comment on the s4. The lg g2 is more warm sounding and higher pitched timbre's sound more realistic vs the s3. They are of equal sound volume, however.
It's about as loud as my n4 but actually has more bass, not saying its much, but its more than a n4 or gs3.
i hate the fact that there's a built in compressor/limiter on the speakers, and there's some kind of weird stereo thing going on where it might only be giving ONE channel, rather than both left/right out of the speaker.
i rememebr reading on the international version that there was EQ settings and whatnot somewhere...wonder if we can unlock them somehow? then maybe we can turn that stupid limiter off.
Hey guys...dont know whether this has been asked before but i really dont know if this g2 has 1 or 2 speakers. Cos the sound only comes out of the right speaker. But in the manual looks like it has 2 speakers...can someone help me here? Thanks

Strange earpiece sound issue

Thanks all for taking the time to read. I have a Verizon Galaxy Note 3, 4.4.2 NC2, Rooted with stock rom. The earpiece sound is playing however, and I know this sounds strange, the sounds is playing mostly opposite to the front side of the phone. It is much louder on the back side. It is as if the normal front firing side of a speaker has been reversed to fire sound in the opposite direction. The sound is neither garbled, nor distorted, it is however to low for me to hear properly from the front which has two effects, the 1st being that calls without headphones plugged in are useless, 2nd and vastly more important, is that I am unable to convince onlookers that I am not entirely retarded as they watch me hold the back side of the phone to my face while the shiny bright screen illuminates, and thereby alerts all in the vicinity to snap photos. Under normal circumstances I would be embarrassed, but 3-5 times a week a few good souls walk by and drop money near me or offer kinds words of encouragement like "Limitations only go so far son, you keep trying" or "You keep playing the hand your dealt, one day you will think the game was worth the while" or my personal favorite " Good job buddy, there are no disabilities, only people with other abilities"
Things have tried so far:
Factory reset - No help
Changed Rom - No help
Changed speaker module - No help
If anyone has any suggestions I would be most appreciative.
What are you using to play your media? Stock player? There is an equalizer and also adaptive sound to change your listening pleasure. There are also various other apps, with better equalizers, you can download and use. I'm not sure what else you can do. My note 5 and Droid RAZR have better sound quality externally than my note3, but my note 3, using the headphone jack, never let's me down.
Careful with the photo stalking. Gl!

Thanks Dravekx,
I am sure that I wrote was I was trying to say in a very confusing manor. What I was trying to say was that the earpiece itself (the one you listen through when on a call) is low in volume from the front but mostly normal sounding coming inexplicably out of the back of the phone, inexplicable because there is of course no speaker on the opposite backside of the phones front earpiece speaker. It's just the weirdest thing ever. I do appreciate your suggestions though!
Cheers

[A] Moto X Pure vs HTC One M9 - Speaker comparison

Just got my Moto X Pure today and retired my M9.
I know when I was originally looking at the X Pure, the biggest question on my mind was how the speakers compare to the M9? I am relieved to say the Moto speakers sound pretty good!
What's different? The Moto speakers are louder - Quite a bit louder actually, maybe 50%, without any breakup. It doesn't have the same hi-fi quality of sound the M9 has or the noticeably richer low end , but it still sound pretty good. I was also using Poweramp, which has a really good EQ and I have it set to bump up the bass a little and knock down the mids (1k) just a little to kill the "boxy" sound.
Like I said, this was a main concern in getting a different phone and the main reason I've stuck with the HTC One series for so long....They just sound really good. But over-all, I'm REALLY happy with the Moto X Pure and it's sound quality. I think if anyone is unsure about switching from an M9 for this reason, don't let it hold you back.....And honestly, it doesn't feel that much bigger either.
Sound on this thing is awesome... First time I have owned a phone and had to turn the volume down on it wile watching a video. Coming from nexus 5

I never doubt the quality of the moto x style speakers, but great to hear that you are satisfied
Finally will be able to hear my ringtones without it sounding like garbage
How is the placement of the headphone jack, does it prove to be a bother and is it awkward. And how is the sound quality through the headphone jack.
When having a phone conversation over speakerphone, only one speaker is functioning. I still have to turn it down from the max volume. I fiddle with the volume a few times until it is at a comfortable level.

The output from the headphone jack is a little lower than the M9, but the M9 was too loud, when turned up all the way, and would distort the auxiliary port on my car stereo.... The MXP doesn't push it to distort, even full volume.
I haven't tried it through headphones/earbuds yet, just in my auxiliary port in my car stereo......It sounded really good (no better or no worse than my M9). I did mess with the EQ on my music player, but ended up putting it about the exact same way as I had it on my M9. I've included a couple screen shots of my EQ settings, one is PowerAmp, the other is Shuttle+.
I also noticed under Settings>Sound & Notifications...There is a setting called "Audio Effects", which is a built in EQ, I haven't touched that setting yet. This may be normal for ROMs based on GPe (stock Android), but I've not noticed it on the custom ROMs I've ran in the past, unless I used Viper4Android or Dolby.
As for the headphone jack, it's fine where it is. It's not a deal breaker for me, but I do wish it was on the same side as the charging port. With my M9, when in my car I would plug in the charger and headphone jack, flip it upside down and stick it in my cup holder in my car. With it being on top and the charging port on bottom on the MXP, I can't do that.......So I just lay it in the passenger seat.

Glad to hear this. I'm coming from an M8, which isn't quite as good as the M9, but I do appreciate the quality of sound that comes out of the speakers on my M8. If you've owned an M8, how does the sound compare to that? It sounds like it might be on par with the M8, but not quite as good as the M9, would that be accurate?

I personally liked the M8 sound better than the M9, but that's just my opinion (that's a story for another day, I wish I kept my M8 instead of upgrading to the M9)...... But the MXP is still not quite as good, but good enough.
I used a different player (Shuttle+) and messed with the EQ on it and got it sounding REALLY good through the speakers. I think if both the M8/M9 were sitting next to the MXP and I was looking at them, I'd be able to tell the difference. If I closed my eyes and someone held one up playing a song, and asked which one it was..... I'm not sure I could tell the difference?
The HTC One phones have a certain Hi-fi sound through the speakers, the MXP isn't quite there but is really good IMO.
I guess it's a waiting game before we can run Viper4Android on this baby. I know V4A makes a huge difference on my Galaxy S5. I can't wait to try out the front facing speakers. Real Racing 3 is going to sound epic
Coming from an M8 this was really good to read!

Stereo speakers?

Just wondering if there was any mention of speakers? Last I heard they will use the ear piece as a speaker but I didn't hear anything like that during the presser.

Just left the At&t store and was playing around with both 8 and 8+ and sad to report that after playing some music and youtube videos and covering each speaker at a time with my finger the phone doesn't fire audio through both speakers like the iphone
The lack of announcing such a feature and getting my hands on one leads me to believe the phone will just shoot sound out of the bottom. Single speaker wasn't that impressive either.

You'll be able to patch mixer for that, but still, it's bullsh**t. I doubt it will use dedicated amp for earpiece (since this one will play only highs). Ever since htc 10 - idea to play "stereo" with a woofer at the bottom & highs with earpiece is nothing but a marketing fooling. Buy htc m8 & you'll feel what is real smartphone stereo
That's disappointing if they did not include the dual speaker set up. Quite a few articles before the release said it was including the dual speaker (incorporating the earpiece speaker as the 2nd) setup. I am guessing that "mixer" is for rooted phones only, but I will look into it.
Sounded extra weak to me as well. Around half the volume of my OnePlus 3T
I went to the store and tried. No stereo speakers. Just mono.

I can confirm ZERO stereo sound came out of either S8 or the S8+ during fullscreen full volume youtube videos. The sound from the single tiny speaker was really weak.
I went to best buy and played with both the S8 and S8+. No stereo speakers. The sound is about the same as the Note 7/S7. Disappointing. But the phones - overall, beautiful. Definitely going to upgrade from my S7. The S8 is smaller physically than the S7edge, but the display is bigger. The S8 was slightly taller than the S7, but overall smaller in the hand. The S8+ was almost exactly the same width as the S7edge, but it was about half an inch taller. I will be going with the s8+, my GF with the S8. Both are wonderful phones - best phones made to date. The curved edges are nicer - closer to what the Note 7 had. The displays beautiful - about like the S7, maybe a tad better. The feel was similar to the S7edge, but again slightly better/more refined. The virtual buttons on the bottom worked well. It's a great phone folks, well worth upgrading. The only thing that I would rather have will be the Note8, and the sketch of that that has been leaked you can tell the Note 8 will be slightly nicer than the S8 just as the Note 7 was slightly nicer than the S7edge. But the Note 8 is at least 6 months away. I can't wait that long. Will be pre-ordering the S8+ for me and the S8 regular for my GF today.

Where's the ear piece

I just realized that there is no traditional earpiece on this phone, unless it is located above the camera. Does it use the same or similar tech as the Xiaomi Mi Mix?
This is why I am trying to wait for an actual real review of the phone before I buy. The quality of the earpiece speaker will determine if I get this phone or not. Calls are hard enough to understand as is, removing the speaker from being a real speaker shooting into your ear will probably make the quality much worse.
It's very hard to see in the few live pictures available, but the larger renders on their homepage show a narrow slit right at the top. Ars Technica also say there is an earpiece in there. So I do not think they are following the Mi Mix in that experiment.

That small slit at the top has to be the earpiece speaker. The one in the pic of the Essential phone reminds me of the one on the Sony Z5 Premium Dual I have which works great.
Unbox therapy review shows it clearly. Great piece of hardware.
