I do not know if this has been covered and I missed it, or if it is even possible. I was trying to boot into recovery to clear the cache. I have the T-Mobile V20. I can get it to the factory reset screen, but it only deletes the data on the phone. Does anyone have any information on how to do this, or what I am missing? I appreciate the help. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
You gave to have TWRP to do that. Haven't gotten that far yet. Phone is brand new. Give it 2-3 weeks.

Ok, so there is no stock recovery like with the S7 and Note 7? Thanks.
What exactly are you talking about when you mean recovery? I mean you are able to get into a recovery mode screen that lists things such as 'reboot to bootloader', 'sideload from adb', 'sideload from sdcard', 'factory reset', and like a cache clear. But I dont know if that's what youre looking for.

Go to settings, then general, then storage and click on internal. You will see the cache and clear it after it calculates.
open developer options, enable usb debugging, and with adb on your PC type adb reboot recovery then hold power and volume up when the little android dude appears.
He may be referring to the OEM stock LG recovery. In the stock recovery you can wipe data/factory reset or clear cache partition. You can get to this recovery by using certain button combos before there phone powers past the bootloader.

what is the button combo? ive been trying with holding a diff number of combinations, no luck.. I get a white screen with 2 sets of imei barcodes... Verizon lg v20
There's your problem Verizon...the instructional button presses I was referring to is for H918 T-MOBILE. Verizon variant may be different, which also may require "Verizon LG v20 drivers."

OR, from Terminal Emulator just "reboot recovery"
i found the button combination to get into recovery mode.
Start by turning off your phone.
Don’t reboot it – just press on the Power key and select “power off” or press and hold the Power key for a few moments.
Wait while the shut down process is completed.
Then, press and hold (at the same time and for a few moments) the Volume Down and Power buttons.
When the LG Logo is displayed, release the Power Key but keep pressing the Volume Down button; while doing so press only once the Power button.
Release all the keys as soon as the recovery mode menu is displayed on your LG V20.
I have tried multiple versions of the combinations on my tmobile one and can never get into my twrp that way. I just use titanium backup for now

You can also access it via fastboot mode commands. By typing adb reboot recovery. But if you dont have twrp installed, then you will be taken to the white screen and your data will be deleted

Make sure you have the latest TWRP installed. 3.0.2-1 I believe. From off its vol down+power, see LG logo let go of power for 1 second then push and hold again(so both buttons will be pressed again, not just vol down) select "yes" to both options that pop up, (and no it won't wipe anything.) It will boot into TWRP as soon as you select yes to the second option. I have TMO as well and it works every time. The latest TWRP is the only one that u can boot into recovery from powered off

No when you do the button combo properly a while screen will pop up and ask if you want to factory reset. You select "yes" both times and you will boot into TWRP. You have to have the latest 3.0.2-1 TWRP installed in order to get to recovery from power off. The button combo 100% works. Again, vol down + power. When you see LG let go of power but not vol down for one second and then press and hold power(now both buttons) until that white screen pops up. If it doesn't, you either don't have TWRP installed or not the latest version.
You manually installed TWRP, correct? Are you rooted?

Just tried it again and still couldnt do it with the buttons. Used titanium backup to boot into twrp and its the correct version as you said. Am I doing the button combo on the 1st LG screen or on the 2nd one that pops up after the screen that says cant verify boot press power button to pause boot? It should be on the 1st LG one that shows up based on what I've read so far but maybe I'm mistaken?? No clue at this point. You said release for a second and ive done that plus many other variations of timing and I just plain suck at this I guess lol.

In Developer options, enable the Advanced Reboot.
The 3 button combo will work, it's just a matter of timing. Remove and replace the battery, hold vol up + home, then power, holding all three, and when it vibrates, let go of power only.
You could also hook up in USB Debugging mode and issue the command:
adb reboot recovery
And if you don't have a developer option go into about phone and tap build number 7 times.

Some people, including myself, cannot get it to work with the standard procedure...the solution is to basically do it twice. Here's a copy/paste of the instructions:
Long press the power button and choose "power off". Give your phone a few seconds to turn off completely. Once it's off, press and hold these 3 buttons at the same time: POWER+VOLUME UP+HOME. Look at the top left of the screen - as soon as you see little blue text saying entering recovery, let go of all buttons immediately...but be ready...if your phone vibrates (it might be trying to reboot normally again), press and hold those same buttons again until you see the blue text again...then let go immediately. Now you will see your recovery!

CWM recovery only requires you to push the volume up key and then press the power key until the phone vibrates and then let go of the power button only. When the blue lettering appears, let go of the volume up. The home button should only be required with TWRP.

Whatever the reason, that is not the case with my phone and many others. I've read several threads of people having the same issue. I'm not sure if it's an issue with the OUDHS CWM w/ auto-loki or what.
I've never heard of letting go of the power button only while still pressing volume up, but I gave it a try just to see...it did get me into CWM recovery but only after doing it twice, similar to the method I wrote above.
I have tried letting go of both volume up and power (no pressing home at all) and never found a way to get into recovery.
Anyways, it seems there's no harm in pressing the home button either way and it's probably easier than letting go of the power button and still holding volume up...and easier to explain too lol.

My minor issue is that when I boot to recovery (twrp) it get to the twrp splash screen then freeze. Takes me another reboot or two before recovery really launches.
Tried reinstalling recovery and fixing permission, etc.. but same deal. Anyone have thoughts on this?
I boot into recovery all the time but I have to hold volume up and home button.
Bump!
I'm having the same issue. What I did was that I had the CWM recovery installed and tried to reset the flash counter. Now the phone won't boot into the recovery, it just boots up as usual when I press vol up+home+power up. I appreciate any help! :/

Can you get the blue text in the upper left corner of the screen to appear at any time?
In my case, trying to get into recovery via the 3 buttons is a matter of very precise timing if I try pressing all 3 buttons at the same time. The instant I see the blue text I let go of everything and it works. Hold it for even a fraction of a second longer and the blue disappears and it goes into a normal boot. It works much better if I press Vol Up, then add Power, then add Home. I'm doing that sequence fairly quickly but the point is I'm not trying to press 3 buttons at the exact same time.
But I'm using CWM so I don't need the 3rd button...
From a powered-down state I hold Vol Up then Power and hold both through the vibration until the blue text appears and it goes into CWM recovery just fine. There seems to be a bit more leeway in terms of how fast you need to let go this way although I just tested and holding about a half second too long caused it to bounce out of recovery and do a normal boot. Let go immediately when you see the blue.
Phone won't boot..
So after using CASUAL, my phone rebooted, and got stuck on the splash screen with RECOVERY BOOTING.. in the top left corner. I pull the battery, try to do a normal reboot; takes me to the same screen. Trying the 3 button combo for recovery; same thing. Any suggestions?? I am NOT on MF3 Firmware.
**EDIT** Should have looked into it more before posting, but Found my solution returning to STOCK

If you are rooted, Titanium Backup, Goo Manager, Power Reboot...These are all applications in the Play Store. As far as using the buttons, I am sure they have worked out the issues using the hardware buttons, but I don't do it that way. Hope this helped!!
For TWRP press and hold the power and volume down button. When the LG logo pops up let go for a second and press the combo again. You'll be prompted to press the power button 3 times to wipe the device. Then It'll boot into TWRP without wiping.

thank you so much for your fast reply.
what I need and meant by recovery mode is where i can format the rom and restore the factory setting when i fail to log in the operating system ( usually was VOLUME DOWN AND POWER BUTTON to get it ) but this method is not working here.
Here's my problem.
I can't get into recovery by pressing the power up, home, power buttons. It says it's 'entering recovery', but then it gives another 'buzz' (like when the phone starts), and just reboots normally.
I used to be able to get into recovery with ROMManager, by selecting the 'boot into recovery'. Then I just got into my CWM and could do whatever I wanted. Now I can't do that anymore, probably because my device is not rooted atm (got CM12 on it though). I wanted to root it, but I can't get into recovery.
I already tried flashing TWRP with Odin (download mode does work), but that doesn't work either. I obviously searched google and XDA for the problem, and I saw suggestions for other phones, like updating the bootloader. But I can't find any information or files for updating the bootloader.

Reboots trying to go custom recovery are normal sometimes.
Lil guide for enter custom recovery (TWRP):
1. Power off your device completely.
2. Press and hold Volume Up, Home and Power buttons simultaneously.
3. Release only the Power button when the logo of Samsung in white appears (you will see little letters in blue and red on the top left of the screen).
4. You will see the blue logo of TWRP (pic attached) then and you can release all buttons and start to navigate for the custom recovery.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't think you understood my question. I know how to get into recovery when it all works. I've done it many times before. The problem is that it shuts down while booting into recovery, and then just reboots normally.
I only installed TWRP because CWM wouldn't work, but TWRP doesn't either. So I guess it has to do with how the device boots into recovery, regardless of what the recovery is.
Anyone? I kinda want to flash another ROM, but I'm unable to right now.

ONLY USE THIS METHOD IF YOU HAVE TWRP INSTALLED!!!!! OTHERWISE YOU WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR DEVICE!!!!!
While the device is powered off, press and hold Vol - and Power button. When you see the LG logo quickly release only the power button and re-press and hold the power button (Never let go of the Vol - button) This will boot you into the LG Factory reset screen. ONLY USE THIS METHOD IF YOU HAVE TWRP INSTALLED!!!!! OTHERWISE YOU WILL FACTORY RESET YOUR DEVICE!!!!! Choose yes to both options and you will be rebooted into TWRP. TWRP intercepts this command and ignores the factory reset part.
There's a nice app in the Playstore by the same guy that makes 3minit battery called 3minit rebooter. Free and works awesome to reboot recovery.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=three.minit.Rebooter
or, use adb on your computer and do "adb reboot recovery" - it is the most reliable method for me

The same method helped me get into recovery. Just remember to let go of the power button for around a sec before repressing it again.
Hi all,
Got this phone last week. It's been really laggy and basically unusable, it even lags when receiving calls and I miss half of them from being unable to answer. I was advised to wipe the cache partition, but the recovery menu is in Chinese. I got in touch with Motorola support who first tried to get me to delete all my data in the Chinese recovery menu, then gave me instructions to wipe the partition in English which I can't follow because the menu is in Chinese, and then said they couldn't help further. I can't find any other examples of Motorola phones with a Chinese recovery menu online.
Really not sure what to do!
Thanks for reading.
When I pressed power+volume down, phone booted into some Chinese screen, but it was not recovery, it was I think a testing menu. You might have pressed the same buttons. To boot to recovery, press power+volume up, this will launch a menu, keep pressing volume up to select recovery, then press volume down to launch recovery, after launching recovery you'll see no command screen, there you should hold power button and press volume up, this will launch recovery. Hope it helps.
That worked, thank you! Motorola were less than useless. Much appreciated.
In case it helps anyone, I fixed the lagging today by installing a new version of google play services, which I found by googling. Made everything better.
Please confirm which version of Google Play services you installed as I have the same problem.

You have to hold Power button and tap volume up. Don't press both buttons simultaneously, hold Power, while holding Power tap volume up. If it does not work, then a system update might have changed the process (though highly unlikely I think).

Stock images for e3 Power are available somewhere in the forum. Try flashing stock images. By the way there is no need to format userdata while flashing recovery.
