For AT&T users and all that have this device? - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Can you double tap to wake? How are the LED notifications? Can you record video in 1080p60fps?
I'm about to return a google pixel and thinking of a worthy replacement.
Also for the AT&T users, AT&T doesn't give you some features on unlocked phones like oneplus or google pixel which I experience. I believe wifi calling, what other features would I gain by using an AT&T device on AT&T that unlocked phones cant get?
Oh and please let there be root.

Double tap to wake, yes. There are no led notifications just the second screen. And 1080p 60fps is off by default in order to turn on the video stabilization but it is there
No root yet though

I've found that video on using the wide angle 8mp sucks in the FHD 1080p mode even with stabilization. Using 1080p60 though it works works better.
The regular 16mp camera is good on both(of course 1080p60 looks better).

[REQUEST]Vibe Z2 Pro (K920) - 1080p/60fps

K920 has same camera sensor as Galaxy S5, but i can't record video in 1080p/60fps. In stock camera isn't setting frame rate. Do you know, how?
And slow motion (720p/120fps) is very sh*t.
Some update? Or mod? I try video record applications, but nothing run.
I have stock 4.4.2 with VibeUi (and clear android)
Thx
I just bought it. Will check and get back.

U11 video recording nitpicking

I've been using the Galaxy S8 Plus until I received my solar red U11 yesterday (glad I waited, it's very nice looking). Anyway, I am very impressed with the photo image quality of the phone (it is very comparable to the S8), but I have a few nitpicks about the video recording:
1) No 1080p/60 mode. I really don't understand why it doesn't have a 60fps mode when even phones from 2016 had it? It has 1080p/30 and 1080p/120 (for slow motion), so why no 1080/60? Is it overheating concern?
2) No way to turn of EIS in 1080p video recording mode? While 1080p is very stable due to its combined OIS and EIS, it also crops the view significantly when recording video in this mode (compare it to 4k, which is quite a bit wider but has no EIS). Anyway, the EIS is nice if you want that, but I think there needs to be a toggle or option to turn off EIS and have the wide recording mode in 1080p that is like the 4k mode. As it stands, there does not appear to be a way to change this.
3) 6 minute recording limit in 4k. I guess it's also due to overheating concerns, but why not just make it unlimited and have the phone's temperature monitoring stop recording automatically if it gets to a certain temp? Some people are reporting overheating stoppages even before the 6 minutes, but in cooler environments, we may be able to record indefinitely in 4k.
Things I DO like about the U11's camera though...
1) Photo app and quality are excellent. Nice Pro mode too.
2) Glad I can lock exposure and focus during video recording very easily.
3) Focusing pulling with the touch screen is very nice on the U11 (it doesn't rock back and forth when focusing like many other phone cameras).
4) Audio recording options are very nice (3d audio vs hi-res, and acoustic focus)

Thanks! It's good to see that they are working on adding 1080p/60, though it appears to be a ways off.
Another thing that bothers me (when compared to the S8 or iPhone 7) is that I can't seem to take a photo while recording in 4k. I'm not sure if that's a software or hardware limitation, but I used that all the time on those phones. I really like using the squeeze to open the camera, take a photo, and switch between front and rear cameras though!

Try Open Camera on XDA, it works shooting 1080P without EIS and no time length limitation on 4K.
I've also see the same issue on the HTC 10 in regards to the 4k and taking a photo while recording if you can call it an issue. I suppose no one had complained about it and they left it unchanged

It's a nice camera app, thanks. Tried various settings in the app for video recording. Looks like no matter what framerate you choose, it can't go above 30fps. I thought maybe it would let me shoot 1080p/60, but nope (even when setting it to 60fps, it still records at 30). Also doesn't seem to be a way to take a photo while shooting video in this app? Nice that you can shoot longer than 6 minutes in 4k though (I didn't try it yet, but I assume it works).

I call it an "issue" only because I have come to expect it when shooting video now. In fact, I used it quite frequently on my iPhone and Galaxy S8. Being able to take a photo without interrupting the video recording is a pretty important feature, in my opinion. I suppose one could load up the video in software and capture a frame manually, but it's a feature that other flagships have, so I miss it.

Indeed, my old year 2012 HTC One S supported shooting FHD video and taking a real photo at the same time and I owned a Galaxy S6 support that feature too. However, I think during 4K recording that no phone could take a real photo, all they do is just capture a frame from video clip and pretend that is a photo.

Right, I understand it's not an actual "photo" at the highest resolution, but I would still like the convenience of capturing a frame during 4k video recording like I can on all of the other flagships phones.
Wow I'm glad I found this post, I thought I was going crazy with the issues you mentioned, especially the cropped 1080p video! I hope they can fix that with the 60fps update, because it is really annoying.
Hi, 60fps still not possible?

1080p60 is being introduced in stock ROMs with versions 1.26 and higher.
Do you know if EIS for 4k video is planned? Thinking about buying the U11 instead of the much too expensive Pixel 2, but the lack of EIS in this case is a bit of a bummer.

YouTube HDR for Nexus 6P ?

1hr ago i saw a post on XDA with the title ¨Google Brings YouTube HDR Support to Pixel Devices via Software Update¨
The question is , our displays are capable to playback HDR content ? If yes soon we will see YouTube HDR on 6P , not official , but still.:fingers-crossed:
There are already a few phones with YouTube HDR support like S8 , Note 8 , LG V30 and G6 , Xperia XZ Premium etc.
I highly doubt Google will bring support for it. Don't know if our displays are hardware capable for HDR but N6P is dead for Google now. Be happy if we even get Android 8.1 since the official support ends this month.

That´s why i said ¨not official¨ , because if N6P display is able to playback HDR content devs will port YouTube HDR from Pixel to N6P !
Edit : I just saw on my sister´s Galaxy S8 1440p60 HDR , is very laggy but the quality difference is HUGE !

The biggest problem i see with HDR on the 6p is codec support since i doubt there is hardware support we will need a software codec and who knows if the cpu can handle it.
With this modified youtube app you can turn on the VP9 codec under iYTBP settings. It's also adfree, background playback, and themed.

HDR Video

Does this device have the ability to play HDR videos and go to auto 100% brightness when doing so?
I know my Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S would automatically turn to 100% display brightness when playing a full screen HDR video in YouTube.
However, I'm unable to get this to work on my Essential, whether I'm using regular YouTube or Vanced...

The only thing I've noticed about this has been on official pie. The brightness control has been given some AI so it has a limited ability to learn your habits/preferences, etc. Only works when you have adaptive brightness selected and it takes a while to learn from your usage patterns.

That's not quite what I'm talking about.
Basically the screen would go to 100% brightness if playing a HDR video in landscape, as to get the full HDR effect.
However, I don't know if this device does that or not? I can't see why it wouldn't. The display is capable I'm sure.

I don't know, that's what I'm trying to find out but I can't find any info.
I assumed it would, the display has so many raving reviews, tho it seems fairly standard to me. Disappointing if it doesn't support HDR, given that it has widevine L1 support for HD streaming, HDR on top would be even better for crispy colour ?

Good bet then that PH-1 does not support HDR if you've having such difficulty finding out if it does. If it did support HDR, it would be plastered everywhere.
BTW, what phone do you know of that actually claims its display panel suppo
Hopefully it will help.
I just played a few HDR videos on my Essential. Looks like the phone doesn't support HDR at all. All videos look 'flat and dull' compared to how my HDR tv plays them.

Well I wasn't so sure. It wasn't exactly known on the MIX 2S.
As far as I'm aware it's not an advertised feature (at least it wasn't at the time I bought it) and I only found out it had HDR because of one user in the MIX 2S forum here. Very few people spoke of it or even knew about it...
But yeah, it seems this panel doesn't support it. Pretty disappointing as it's a great panel too.

That's a function of the app in question.
An app can force full brightness on the screen, and it can also lock it on while in that particular activity or fragment (so it doesn't time out.) That's not really a function of the device, per-se. Now an app might detect some set of characteristics of a given device and choose (or not) to make the call to set the brightness.....

So what you're saying is we could absolutely get the functionality of HDR Video playback on this device if Google pull their finger out and update YouTube with this device specifics in its "approved list" ?
Well I don't know if the screen meets the requirements for HDR (e.g. contrast-ratio, etc) but if it does, then.... yep.
Otherwise you'd still get the full brightness and locked screen, but if the underlying contrast ratio isn't there then you'd still have blacks (or whites) that get "lost"...
The display is 8bit, no hdr support thats it period.
Well that sucks... ?

8K video recording option

I don't understand why the rest of SD865 phones have 8K video recording while OP8Pro doesn't have. I am sure sensor supports it but they didn't enable in camera app. Is there a way to enable it or any 3rd party app that I can use? If not then any news if its coming in Android 11?
Still 8K not good Video in smartphone

You can try "open camera" in the Video options you can select an 8k resolution and record a file with this resolution but I don't know if it will look better than 4k
Do you have an 8k TV to watch it on?
What is the point?
I don't even use 4k, even my TV is 1080p
Pc 2560x1080 ultra wide.
Sure there's a difference but you'll never be able to see it.
The camera does 4K because it's a 4K camera, that's that.
There is no way you can make a 4K shoot in 8K.
You could upscale a 4K video but that's it

Just fyi, 8k resolution is not showing up in Open camera because the phone simply don't support it.

You do realize that 8K is around 33MP? The Main sensor has 48MP. The Chipsets and the Sensor should easily be able to handle it. It's just one of those weird decisions oneplus made, like disabling the near Infrared camera. Absolutely stupid.

Not sure it's as simple as that buddy. A case of flicking a switch, yes one of them cameras is 48MP.
Plus like I said unless you've got a ridiculous TV there is no point in 8K. The screen on the 8 pro isn't even 8K.
So not stupid at all.
The photochrom camera I can use just fine, sure it's via the engineer menu or an app but it's working.
Bottom line with the camera set is that they are what they are. A thread here won't change that.

Yeah, i use the photochrome camera the same way. It works but it's not very elegant.
The ISP and the SOC are both capable of recording at 8K. Im not talking about wether it's a good idea to record at 8K, but why oneplus won't let us.
Yea, a thread on XDA probably won't change anything but it provides a platform to discuss that topic. That's what a forum is for.
Also, technically 2 cameras are 48MP, the normal and the ultrawide. The main camera uses the Sony IMX 689 and the ultrawide uses the IMX 586. The ISP is a Spectra 480 which is capable of recording at 8K 30FPS.
So yeah, the phone can do it but OnePlus decided not to implement it.

2x 48mp? Really?
I dunno about 8k I don't even record in 4k pal lol.
I've no use for it really do 8k is overkill. Can't wait for the day it's mainstream but I think we're a way off yet.
There must have been reasoning for them not implementing it.
