Which rooting method? CF-Auto Root works with all firmwares and bootloaders (but be wary of tripping the Knox flag).

Yes that will work. Although the fastest and best method (without having to install a custom recovery) is to use CF-Auto Root (and the safest too because I wouldn't trust the zip on the blog, but I trust Chainfire lol).

If i use that method, it will install the custom recovery and knox will be triggered, am i right sir? But if i use cf auto root, knox will remain 0x0?

Which is your current firmware? If you use ANY method to do any kind of rooting or flashing, your knox will be triggered and changed to 0x1 (if you are on the firmwares that have knox).

I think that zip is safe. Because i use that method since S3 generation. I use that method also on my S4 and it works fine. But i'm still on XXUBMG5 (Old Bootloader) and i want to update on the latest that's why i ask if that method will work. Thank you for answering sir

If you are on MG5, then you have no problems with rooting since you have no knox. But I suggest updating to the last firmware without knox which I think is XXUBMF8. All the firmwares with XXUB... are without knox. Some custom ROMs out there have no bootloaders when you flash them, so they are safe too. Just search for the answer and you'll know.

Hello,
I write to you from Munich / Germany.
Can anyone tell me the best way to root my Note 3 ?
Details:
SM-N9005
4.4.2
Basisbandversion: N9005XXUENB1
Kernel-Version: 3.4.0-636608
Buildnummer: KOT49H.N9005XXUENB7
I have been reading a lot here, but I am abslutely not sure which way to root I should use.
Thank you so much for your help.
As far i know there is no 100% safe way to not trigger knox flag.
I for myself just rooted using cf auto root. Worked well but triggered knox flag.
Maybe you explain what exactly are your concernes and we can try to help you more detailed.
Well as the previous poster says...there is no way on 4.2.2 to root without triggering Knox. So before rooting think about the fact that you will loose your warranty. If you are ok with that, I reccomend using Cfroot. It is safe. Worked like a charm for me. Best of luck!

If I use Cfroot the only problem is that I loose my warranty ? There are no other serious changes to my phone ? Can i update to a newer OS later ?
No other problems reported by users after using Cfroot. Upgrade to a newer rom after rooting is only available via odin for official firmwares or by flashing custom rom zip's under custom recovery. And I should remind you that there is no app that you can root with without triggering Knox and loosing your warranty.

No harm to try. If it doesn't work then use cf auto root.
If you flash custom recovery, knox will get tripped anyway

I rooted my german Note 3 with towelroot.
Now I want to sell it because I bought a Note 4.
Can I make a factory reset to erase all my data before I sell the device or will it cause any problems e.g. brick my Note
The root could stay on the phone, I don't care, but I want to erase my personal data.
I tried to find an answer but had no luck so far
Thank you very much from Germany

Yes of course you can ,
Suggest you flash stock rom via Odin if you have wipe data problems .

If you flash the stock firmware with odin then there is no danger. You can flash the Official German 5.0 Lollipop Firmware and I am sure you will have no problem. Just make sure that you have all the drivers installed.

Hello,
i use a G900F and had root with towelroot.
i did an update on my Phone today to G900FXXU1ANG8. the installation went perfect.
but after the update i tried a new search for a software update and now i got the notification:
the operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. try downloading software updates using samsung kies on your pc or visit a customer service center.
I also use the app Phone info and when i check my knox counter it says 0X0 so normally this isnt triggerd.
when i connect to kies it just says my Phone has the latest software?

Hi!
I have a problem with HealthService and Context Service is there any way to fix this?
Thanks
I have a Galaxy S5 SM-G900V Version 5.0 I am wondering if it is possible to root it any help would be greatly appreciated
If you read the post above yours, or any of the posts in this forum, you will probably figure out how to root your device. Pro tip!
I have read them and have tried several different ways but I must be missing something because when I flash my device it keeps going into boot recovery and I cant get it to go any further

You soft bricked it. I recommend using Kies 3 to repair and initialize the phone again to stock, unless you made a nandroid backup. Then, you'll have to flash a NK2 retail stock, since no one has been able to find a method to root AO8 Lollipop 5.0 without tripping knox. If you don't mind tripping knox, which voids your warranty.

you are wrong lmao.. we have root for the g900v (he must be having user errors if he cant get it to work) but there is NO process for the g900v that will trip Knox at all because we cant touch the BL due to it being locked.. Knox has nothing to do with anything at this point. His warranty is still good but yes, his phone is soft bricked if he cant boot up

Have you tried finding a full ncg tar file (full meaning it includes the kernel), Odin that to put you on ncg. Download towelroot and install it. Run towelroot and that should root you. Download latest safestrap and install it. Then download any other the rooted lollipop roms and the lollipop kernel(kernel will be downloaded on computer) . Install it via safestrap, boot directly into download mode and Odin the lollipop kernel. Reboot. Should be rooted lollipop and good to.
New too rooting
ok I managed to figure this all out i think I got it to restore back to 5.0 using odin by flashing the stock files I found on the forums then I found another tutorial on rooting and followed it and managed to figure it out so now I am running
Android Version
4.4.4
Baseband Version
G900VVRU1ANHA
Kernel Version
3.4.0
[email protected]#1
Build Number

I don't know if that means any thing to you guys but my next task is to find a rom that ultimately will get rid of allot of the boat from verizon and ideally I would like to have the multi user feature but I am not sure that is availible for android 4.4.4

Hello,
I have a galaxy s4 on 4.4.2 that I rooted using kingroot a while back. It is a US Cellular SCH-R970. Knox has not been tripped. Under device status it says the phone is custom. This means I cannot update to 5.0.1.
My question is, how would I return the phone to official status without 1. Tripping knox, and 2. Keeping all of my data. Also, do you know if I can root with kingroot once I get on 5.0.1.
Baseband is R970TYUFNK1.
Thank You!
Hi,
Flash a proper complete stock firmware via ODIN. Firmware for R970TYUFNK1 is R970TYUFNK1 (itself).

SamMobile, Samsung Updates, or via SamFirm app. I usually rely on SamFirm.
Edit: As long as Re-partition and NAND Erase All is unticked on Odin, it should be fine.
PS Note: You can install newer firmware over your current firmware via Odin, too.

It would be wise to backup and wipe data before flashing. Otherwise you might encounter problems.
And do not use kingoroot to root lollipop. It used to not work or cause problems. Use cf autoroot method, if your device is supported.

Having knox triggered is just a bunch of crap from Samsung to scare you. Unless you actually use knox. Or if you are afraid from losing your warranty. Which is also crap, because, whilst reading the warranty file, I saw that it won't cover water damage, it won't cover a broken screen and a bunch of other stuff. The only thing it covers is actual hardware failure. And if the phone is new, that's pretty unlikely. Even if it does fail, Samsung has no way to see if knox has been triggered until they change your hardware and are able to boot up the phone. At that point they can't refuse to take it into warranty service anymore.

Wow, that warranty is a load of ****. Also the phone is over a year old so I'd doubt it's still under warranty anyway.
What would you recommend to make a backup? I don't have fast Internet at all (300 kbps down), so I think a local backup would be more efficient.
Thanks for all the help! Have a good Christmas!

There is a cf auto root thread in the general section. Or you could simply google "cf auto root s4".

But you should be able to use other GT-I9505 roms too.

Marshmallow roms have been split into gsm and cmda, due to changes in the radio. You have a cmda device.
The initial build of aosp marshmallow was for both cmda and gms devices. The newest build (the december 24th build) is split into two. Gsm version has been released but cmda version needs more work.
So you will have to download the 6th december build which was unified. Or the lollipop builds.
Lollipop builds have a different thread and a different link.
