I have a non rooted stock nexus 6P android 7.0 with standard bootloader. Something is kepping the phone alive so I wanted to start up in recovery and clear system cache. But when I try to open recovey I get the android logo laying down with the text under it no command. For the rest it won't do anything for 2 minutes and then it just start up normal. But no recovery....

I have no bootloop, because it start up well. I just can"t reach the recovery menu to clear system cache. I might look into how you do a clean install of 7.0. I just have the phone for a week. And it was doing well. But sunce today something prevents the system to go into sleep mode.
I did some other research. To get into recovery I needed OEM Unlock turned on or have USB debugging enabled in developer options. I can go into recovery now. Cleared system cache. Hopefully my wake lock disappears. Don't want to root the phone. Because I want to keep warranty. My note 4 broke down with knoxx tripped and didn't got warranty when my motherboard broke down

When you get the No Command screen, press the power button immediately press the volume down button. It's tricky, but that will put you into the standard recovery.

Are you able to access recovery at all? If your able to access recovery try preforming a factory reset to see if you can get past the boot animation. Also check out this information that may be helpful.

Always glad to hear that I was able to help someone out, but I'm always especially happy when I can help someone un-brick there device.
so the deal here is...
so once your in bootloader, hit recovery, then you will see the little dead droid with the triangle... this is where it gets tricky...
keep tapping ( DONT HOLD) the power and volume left ( dunjno which is up or down, so i say left, the one close to the power key)., or in somke cases just mash all the buttons till the menu pops up! then click wipe data then wipe cache and the device reboots itself... give it a try!
i dont knwo why the recovery menu doesnt pop up unjtil u keep pressing volume up/down and power buttons, just keep tapping them in the recovery menu weith the android triangle and u should see the menu pop up

Very interesting to know, maybe you should make a thread in the general section with your findings so other people can easily find this useful information as this seems to be a common problem people run into.

Works perfect. Thanks so much...
I've actually heard that it's a fastboot problem (with the tool, not the firmware on your device). Downloading the latest version of platform-tools solved this particular problem in a hurry for me, and it's probably best practice in the long run.
Is there something I can do in this situation except i don't have stock recovery installed?
Nevermind had a moment
I think I bricked my brand new Nexus 4 I was trying to follow the rooting directions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1993331
I was using the Clokcworkmod and I was unable to see the super su folder in the sd connection. and i rebooted it anyways. Now after reboot the phone doesnt start up It just hangs at the X symbol at the startup.
As suggested, I also tried to reboot recovery, which also hangs
I'm super new to this, anybody, please help

Just start again, sometimes it messes up, but you generally just start again with flashing the clockworkmod. Make sure the download wasnt corrupted by doanloading everything again though, although ignore the bit about adb rboot bootloader, you need to start the phone manually by use power + volume-down key combination to get into bootloader when its powered off and continue from point 5.
Thanks, I will give that a try

Don't freak out. I'm sure you're fine.
Unlocking the bootloader on my N10 caused me to hang at the X. Wiping data fixed it for me. Try the following:
1. Reboot into Fast Boot
2. Select Recovery using volume rocker. Hit power to select. You'll get the android mascot with the red exclamation point.
4. Press Power and Volume Up at the same time.
5. Choose to wipe all data. Confirm the selection.
6. Reboot.

So I didn't originally flash the recovery image, just booted into it. So I tried that again, but there is nowhere to find the SU_BusyBox_Pack.zip. I tried the sideload method, but ADB can't find my device any more. It shows nothing when I do adb devices.
what else can I try ?
Were you able to try wiping data through the stock recovery?

I got stuck after just booting into recovery as well and immediately exit. Just use the volume key and change it until you see recovery, without going into it, I just fastboot flash recovery recovery.img from pc, then factory reset.

I do not know if this has been covered and I missed it, or if it is even possible. I was trying to boot into recovery to clear the cache. I have the T-Mobile V20. I can get it to the factory reset screen, but it only deletes the data on the phone. Does anyone have any information on how to do this, or what I am missing? I appreciate the help. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.
You gave to have TWRP to do that. Haven't gotten that far yet. Phone is brand new. Give it 2-3 weeks.

Ok, so there is no stock recovery like with the S7 and Note 7? Thanks.
What exactly are you talking about when you mean recovery? I mean you are able to get into a recovery mode screen that lists things such as 'reboot to bootloader', 'sideload from adb', 'sideload from sdcard', 'factory reset', and like a cache clear. But I dont know if that's what youre looking for.

Go to settings, then general, then storage and click on internal. You will see the cache and clear it after it calculates.
open developer options, enable usb debugging, and with adb on your PC type adb reboot recovery then hold power and volume up when the little android dude appears.
He may be referring to the OEM stock LG recovery. In the stock recovery you can wipe data/factory reset or clear cache partition. You can get to this recovery by using certain button combos before there phone powers past the bootloader.

There's your problem Verizon...the instructional button presses I was referring to is for H918 T-MOBILE. Verizon variant may be different, which also may require "Verizon LG v20 drivers."

OR, from Terminal Emulator just "reboot recovery"
i found the button combination to get into recovery mode.
Start by turning off your phone.
Don’t reboot it – just press on the Power key and select “power off” or press and hold the Power key for a few moments.
Wait while the shut down process is completed.
Then, press and hold (at the same time and for a few moments) the Volume Down and Power buttons.
When the LG Logo is displayed, release the Power Key but keep pressing the Volume Down button; while doing so press only once the Power button.
Release all the keys as soon as the recovery mode menu is displayed on your LG V20.
I have tried multiple versions of the combinations on my tmobile one and can never get into my twrp that way. I just use titanium backup for now

You can also access it via fastboot mode commands. By typing adb reboot recovery. But if you dont have twrp installed, then you will be taken to the white screen and your data will be deleted

Make sure you have the latest TWRP installed. 3.0.2-1 I believe. From off its vol down+power, see LG logo let go of power for 1 second then push and hold again(so both buttons will be pressed again, not just vol down) select "yes" to both options that pop up, (and no it won't wipe anything.) It will boot into TWRP as soon as you select yes to the second option. I have TMO as well and it works every time. The latest TWRP is the only one that u can boot into recovery from powered off

No when you do the button combo properly a while screen will pop up and ask if you want to factory reset. You select "yes" both times and you will boot into TWRP. You have to have the latest 3.0.2-1 TWRP installed in order to get to recovery from power off. The button combo 100% works. Again, vol down + power. When you see LG let go of power but not vol down for one second and then press and hold power(now both buttons) until that white screen pops up. If it doesn't, you either don't have TWRP installed or not the latest version.
You manually installed TWRP, correct? Are you rooted?

Just tried it again and still couldnt do it with the buttons. Used titanium backup to boot into twrp and its the correct version as you said. Am I doing the button combo on the 1st LG screen or on the 2nd one that pops up after the screen that says cant verify boot press power button to pause boot? It should be on the 1st LG one that shows up based on what I've read so far but maybe I'm mistaken?? No clue at this point. You said release for a second and ive done that plus many other variations of timing and I just plain suck at this I guess lol.

While the phone is on and developer options enabled and also OEM unlock enabled, connect the phone to a P.C. Make sure you have minimal adb and fastboot installed on your P.C. also and while you're in the adb folder open a command prompt window and type
adb reboot download
The phone will then boot into download mode..

I really dont think its a hardware issue. nothing happened to the phone and the buttons are springy and not stuck they just dont adjust the volume. Thats why I hope going back to 6.0.1 will fix it.

The phone will update itself automatically as long as there's a cache.img being flashed and it's usually in the firmware.. Just need to make sure odin is set to automatically reboot after flash.

Then it's unfortunately a hardware issue and if the phone is less than 1 year old Samsung would be willing to fix it free of charge so long as you didn't cause the damage..
Also trying pressing the buttons like a bit forceful and quickly that way if it is stuck under the actual button then it will maybe loosen up..
I was afraid you were gonna say that....I'm just out of warranty. Thanks
I want to boot the phone to bootloader mode. However, when I come to the recovery mode, it says "[libfs_mgr]Error updating for slotselect" at the very bottom of the screen.
If I continue to choose Reboot to bootloader, it prints the same error message again a second time, and very quickly (less than 1s) reboots to the OS. So I can't go to the bootloader.
If anyone knows what happen and how to fix it, please help. Many thanks.
