i heard if you update LA5 thru software update, you loose the root and than there is no way to root it again unless you downgrade to lower version and than flash thru odin.
Since some variants of Moto E still didn't get the 5.1 update, Do you think Motorola is planning to update directly to Marshmallow ?
I would hope so
Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Tapatalk
I think it's easier for them to prepare an update from a single version, so if guess they'd update everything to 5.1 or 5.11 then to m
Sent from my MotoE2(4G-LTE) using Tapatalk
it won't be direct update for sure, It will get 6.0 but we will have to wait a long time
Its a recently released device. Its highly unlikely not to get a direct ota update on android 6.0
At this rate we might get a stable custom ROM of marshmallow before we get the official update
Official M is likely to come, because device is rather new, And Surnia device already has the 5.1 update (at least in some countries) or only US?
or are Motorola Europe waiting for android M instead of continuing pushing 5.1 release

I mean the rate in which the developers are making progress to build stable roms for this phone here in xda (cm12.1,RR,PAC etc).
Reading http://www.xda-developers.com/hello-moto-what-are-you-doing-an-opinion-on-motorolas-transformations/ I'm sure we'll get a custom marshmallow rom before the official update (if there is any).

The worst part is when they released the Moto E2 it ended up being a lie.
"And while other smartphones in this category don't always support upgrades, we won't forget about you, and we'll make sure your Moto E stays up to date after you buy it."

Wow, so it only gets 1 incremental update & 1 stage fright patch? The phone literally released in 2015, yet it has achieved EOL only a few months after it's released, surely this is just a joke...even the Moto G features the same SD410 so there's no excuse.

There is excuse, it's called price
I've been thinking about this. I wonder if they're just getting done variants first because it become their priority and their new business model. It doesn't necessarily mean they're going to leave us all in the dark on the carriers. They also did have the disclaimer on the web page that its all subject to change. I'm going to hold off on my rage a little bit and see what happens.
To be honest the only thing I'm interested in in marshmallow is Google on tap.

The Moto G 2013 saw official support from 4.3 to 5.1 ... I guess Lenovo is likely going to push a 3rd gen E that's keeping in line with the design of the current series.
Sent from my XT1526 using Tapatalk
I'd imagine we will probably get M eventually. I just don't think Motorola wanted to commit to the update until it had the source code and could verify it would run fine on a device this low spec'd.

Well we're not on Motos list...devices that weren't on the list for 5.X never received it. Source was pushed to AOSP on the 5th...I think its a entry level/disposable device in their eyes and they're looking to the next gen already. But to be fair they guaranteed "1" update and I guess that was 5.0.2 to 5.1...

Don't post that you got invite for SOAK tests, Motorola asks users to keep the information regarding SOAK tests confidential and might withdraw your name from the list
Simply its a mobile software.nothing more than that...and no need to fear about revealing the info..there will be no update for our mobile after marshmallow..

And not a single twrp backup? Or at least some credible proof?
Btw in europe they sell also the indian XT1068 with the same build so whenever indian users get an update we are also getting it. So you're saying that noone from india and EU has made a backup or captured the OTA? I honestly doubt that.

Ok, sammobile reported that, but I'm not sure it's the truth. I searched around the web and I didn't find any user report of that update. I remember that last year xda and reddit were overfilled with hundreds of screenshots when lollipop was released for S5.
Anyway 21st February is near, I hope in a massive release and not in a slow and sectorial distribution.

Because mm has yet to be rolled out, don't know why we have any confusion at all.
Once someone on xda has confirmed that they have received a Ota than we can say mm has been rolled out in that location, don't trust any site or blog or whatever.

See Post #2 for the Link to Odin Files
I'll continue to try and get the Odin files as they drop and add them to post #2 for everyone
Understanding the Firmware labels
I got a better, more updated explanation to how these are broken down
N=Note
950U or F etc, the model of device
SQ, FX etc = CPU and model specific
U,S,E = Update, Security, Engineering, respectively
1,2,3,4,5 etc = bootloader rev(this is important!)
A,B,C,D = Nougat rev 1, Nougat rev 2, Oreo rev 1, Pie rev 1
If you ever see a build that contains a "Z" such as this: U5ZSA1, that means the build is part of Samsung's Official Beta program. The "Z" in this context replaces the Android Version letter thus obscuring what OS it actually is.
P,Q,R,S = Year (R is 2018, S is 2019)
A,B,C etc = month (January A - December L)
1 - 9 and then A - Z =build compilation. This basically means how many builds there are in a month. They start at 1 and go to Z (Ex. If a build is U5CRK4 then that is the fourth build of the month of November)
So N950USQS5CRK1 would be
N950-U-SQ-S-5-C-R-K-1
N950U (Note 8 Carrier version), SQ (Snapdragon), S (Security), 5 (Bootloader version), C (Build Oreo), R (2018), K (November), 1 (1st build)
**You CANNOT downgrade to a lower Bootloader. So if you are on a Bootloader 5 rom, you can not go to a Bootloader 4 rom.
Thanks to @Venom0642 for all of his contributions and links(and telling me when I've f'd up a post ) and to @borijess, @bboii86 for all your help too!

Pardon my ignorance, I've tried to follow the development of Oreo availability as close as I can...
Using the outline method, would future OTA updates be pushed? Or would one be doomed to sideload?
