I notice that if my (AT&T S7 edge) phone has any pending notifications it will vibrate when I pick it up. This is useful for some types of notifications, but there are some notifications I don't want to be reminded about. Can anybody explain how to manage this? Or at least turn it off since it doesn't do what I need?
Thanks

That is a feature called Smart Alert, it should vibrate only for missed calls and messages, you can disable it in Settings/Advanced Features or Motion gestures) and then Smart alert.
Thanks. If it's only for missed calls and texts I'm okay with it. If it's for emails I don't want it. I thought maybe it was only for messages from contacts on the People edge panel.

I really have searched for this here, can not quite see the answer although it comes close.
Anyway, I would like to have it pulse the Trackball for SMS and Missed Calls, but not for email, and I thought I had seen a setup for that, but now, I can not find it?

Disable email notifications and any other notification you want gone and that should do it

Hrmm, I do want to be notified of emails, and have a custom ringtone that plays everytime I get a new email. I just don't want the LED flashing as well?

Check this in a couple of [months?] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628809
Generally, I love my new phone but there is one issue I have not been able to solve which is a deal breaker. According to the Nexus support line, and my extensive experimentation, it is impossible to turn off email notification vibrations (non gmail), yet still have vibration notifications for text messages.
I receive hundreds of emails a day and the last thing I need is the phone vibrating all the time. On the other hand, my texts are less frequent and typically need attention!
According the Nexus support rep it is a function of Android 4.2
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
On an unrelated issue, the servers automatically assigned by the phone for both Bellsouth (Yahoo) and Hotmail email did not work. I had to search the web for other viable pop3 and imap options!
Can you use handcent for your texts and enable it that app?

Unfortunately the issue is not with the sms program. The problem is with the native email program. It seems no matter what setting one uses on any email account there will always be vibration notifications. The only way to turn these off is to set the phone to silence (one down volume click after vibration mode). The problem with putting the phone in silence mode is that one cannot get sms vibration notifications.
In my mind this makes ZERO sense!
apparently this has been a known issue for about a month.......

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried Light Flow...even bought the paid edition. Unfortunately, this does not work. I tried all types of combinations between email and text and same issue. Net net...if the sms notification vibrates then the email notification vibrates and visa versa. Looking to disconnect those two!
I looked everywhere.... Googled everywhere. Why doesn't hangouts have periodic SMS notifications?
I guess I need to just use something like easy reminder... Wish it was built in though
I've always found repeating notifications incredibly annoying (and so do the people around me). Is the notification LED and icon in the tray not enough?
Most of the texts i'm getting are pretty important so i need to respond almost immediately. I have it clipped on my belt most of the day. I find Easy Reminder pretty useful for what i need it for. I figure something as simple as periodic notifications came stock with most sms apps anyway.
I lost the headsup notifications and I believe I lost them when I turned on the edge lighting on the phone. I have checked the app settings and notifications and no way to find it and get them back on. I get a small icon when I receive a text or email nothing pop ups on the screen like it used to do.
Whats up everyone?
I got my 6T the first day. Today was the first time I played with it nicely.
Maybe I am getting confused or have lost my way around Pie, but I am not able to get notifications for a particular app the way that I want.
Example: For Twitter (because I receive a lot of notifications), I want the notification to show up on my lock screen as well in the notification dropdown (just like all other notifications), but I do not want my phone vibrating or making a sound when I receive one. Is it possible? ONLY for twitter. All other apps should function normally.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
When the app in question has a notification, long press it, choose more settings. There are options there to allow or disallow certain events.
