The bottom 3 touch buttons in the black strip just over the speaker on the phone are NOT backlit.
These buttons are the back button, home button and overview button.
Im OFTEN having to look at where my finger is tapping vs where the middle, lower section of the screen is because I will tap on what I think is a back button or home button but its NOT. And therefore I tap more than once, 2 or even 3 times to guess the right spot for the location of these dam buttons...
I know there is NO fix for this because Axon did not make these backlit at all.
But I gotta tell ya, its aggrivating... big time..

Sent from my Pixel using XDA-Developers mobile app
I got used to it within a day or so. The home button is in the very middle, so you can easily eyeball where you're supposed to hit (even in a dark room). The other two just became muscle memory.
Put a little sticker under each button?
I dont get it...why are there so many people buying this phone and keep crying about something that was clear upfront.

Yes, but it's annoying because ZTE could have done it right. People buy the phone because of the awesome hardware specs, then something like this shows ZTE seems to have rushed design/manufacturing or didn't test thoroughly. Capacitive buttons need backlighting. As long as a manufacturer is putting them on the phone, why not do it right?
The Chinese version (pictures below) doesn't have the capacitive buttons, so the problem seems to be due to a rush job. Maybe they'll fix it in the next version?
I have capacitive buttons on my 2014 Moto XT1225 (5.2'" 1440P AMOLED -- basically the 5.2" version of the Moto Nexus 6) and they're great. I thought I would hate capacitive buttons, but they're actually OK. Of course, Motorola put in backlighting...

Two models were released in China before the US/Global launch: a 64GB/4GB variant with on-screen buttons, and a 128GB/6GB variant with a force-touch screen and capacitive buttons. Like the U/G models, the capacitive buttons on the Chinese model were not backlit. The U/G models were going to just get on-screen buttons like the the Chinese 64GB/4GB variant, but focus groups (outside volunteers) preferred having capacitive buttons, so ZTE delayed the U/G release and restarted production in order to incorporate the capacitive keys from the higher-end Chinese model (this is why some early reviewers have US models with no capacitive keys).
Hi everyone! Well, for me its no big issue. Since I've come from the Zenfone 2 and those capacitive buttons aren't backlit either it was easy. Even in the dark I can tell were the buttons are, its all muscle memory. I understand it would have been a better touch to have included backlit capacitive buttons. Hopefully when ROMs become available this issue can be addressed with on screen buttons instead.
I can hear it now... "I hate the large bottom bezel where there is nothing... why didn't they put capacitive buttons there instead of on-screen ones??" Old argument over something that was done last minute to appease those who wanted it. I like them the way they are. I had back-lit ones on another phone and I got so tired of them lighting up every time I touched the phone that I turned off the back light anyway. They are also spaced correctly for one hand/thumb operation.
I returned it.... I have no patience for such ridiculous nonsense like this simple errror ZTE did..... Maybe some of you guys and gals can deal with it but I am ALWAYS hitting the wrong part of the screen.
Also I found out it dont have Apt-X for bluetooth. You think ZTE would have implemented these cheap, simple things into such a nice, powerful device.... but they didnt... thus, they failed... I returned it...
Ill probably get a Xperia XZ.

What is apt-x even?
EDIT: Looked it up, its a qualcomm proprietary codec. It probably cost extra to get a license for aptx. Plus it's only 16 bit at 44 kHz. The AKM chip does 32 bit at 768 kHz.

Apt-X is for bluetooth audio.
If you like listening to Pandora or whatever from your phone and stream it over to your home stereo or car stereo with an Apt-x bluetooth reciever, APt-X allows for the best audio quality from bluetooth. There is a difference is sound trust me.

Since ZTE was going for a cost-effective flagship, they probably didn't get a license from QC. Shaves off money.

The AKM DACs are better than APT-X, so you'll get better sound if you hook up directly instead of using bluetooth.

Exactly. The only use I have for Bluetooth is my watch. After listening to the DAC, all other music sounds crappy on other phones.

Them AKM dacs also send the audio to the Bluetooth processor to process it into a wireless signal... Apt-X allows the hit bit rate to stay at cd quality. Well, since this phone doesnt have Apt-X it sends it to a lesser quality bluetooth processor that is well below CD quality.
but hey.... why dont we all go back to wired phones cause this genius thinks wired is better!
Look man.... Just stop giving your opinion cause you dont know wtf your even talking about.

Hello XDA.
These are NOT MAJOR problems for me personally. The phone is brilliant, blazing fast. However if I had to pick out things I disliked/gripes these would be it. And will update if I or we happen to find more.

Hardware
- MicroSD and Sim slot has switched places from original SGS
Its more common to take the MicroSD out than the SIM card. Have to take the battery out just to insert/take out my MicroSD!!!
- Camera prone to scratches
The little platform that the camera is raised on is prone to scratches.Laying on a table the phone virtually rests on the camera lens! Comparing with the SGS the case takes the damage.
A good temporary way would be to stick a bit leftover from invisishield onto where the "8.0 MEGA" sign is and let that take the weight and scratches.

- Gap in Speaker
I don't know if you've noticed but there is a GIANT GAP between the slits of the cover and the internals underneath it. And unlike the SGS I. There is noway to reach inside it get get dirt/bits out. Is a big whole waiting to collect dust IMHO. :S
- Lack of Base comparing to the SGS I
I have to say the speakers on SGS II imho is not better than SGS I. Maybe there was a bit of compromise in the design?
On the original SGS you couldn't listen to it whilst on the table or sofa.
Now on the SGS II there is a massive gap between the outer chasis and the internal speaker inside so you can listen to music perfectly without any muffling when laid on a surface which is a GOOD THING. However there seems to be a real lack of base comparing with the SGS I.
- No cover for MicroUSB slot
Again dust prone. Why they took that feature out from the Original sgs I don't know.
- Did not come with USB2go or HDMI cable EDIT: Samsung Infuse 4G has a USB2Go adapter included in box!
I know they didn't advertise this as one of the strongest points but a little disappointed that it didn't come with it. I actually asked about this at CPW on launch day but the accessories were still all boxed up so couldn't take a look.
- Some people having problems with Screen
Pixel/Lines appearing and disapperaing. But looking at this forum and others only a minority/rare case and I personally don't have this problem on my SGS II.

Software
- Flash videos
Problems with BBC iPlayer, video stuttering. A faint mesh background when you watch any flash embedded videos using the stock browser.
TRY TESTING THIS YOURSELF. Play a video which has a white if not a bright coloured background.
- Menu Key vibration in Game Hub
It is excessively long and loud unlike any other hubs or just when you press the menu key.
- Low call volume when using personal head phones. CONFIRMED
yeah, I've noticed these things too... but since I wasn't an original sgs owner didn't think too much of it. I actually noticed the deep speaker gap when I saw something just inside.... had to fish it out with a toothpick?!

Doesn't the camera has also gorilla glass?
Otherwise it is a big worry
My negatives so far are
* Flash videos are not smooth on BBC iPlayer, even using the official iPlayer app.
* Camera shutter noise cannot be disabled
* Some popular games are not working, NFS Shift, Dungeon Defenders etc
* No LED for email/sms notifications
* Phone vibrates loudly when fully charged - waking me up at 4 am

Dunno. I bets not. Hope so but yeah, the glass edges mounted on the silver chrome is just waiting to get scratched! :S
@jgittins
Agree with the LED not having notification functions.
But the rest of the issues can be software-fixed and will improve in time e.g games compatibility. Remember the SGS II just came out. Like-wise maybe bbc iPlayer is not yet tailored for the SGS II. Strange though, my Carphonewarehouse phone did come with it installed. I'll check this out.
As for phone vibrating loud turn the vibration down in settings.
Camera shutter sound even on silent, yes I can confirm too that it is not working for me too. I'm on CPW (sim-free unlocked) firmware

yeah agree they are not major problems like I've said. I just tried focusing on the h/w problems which might be hard to change/alter unlike software problems.
The cable tbh I expected it to come with it.
The box is smaller than the Galaxy S which I applaud Samsung environmental/wasting less resources but for a 500Pounds phone...disappointed nonetheless.

Since screen is SAMOLED you can get an app to flash a couple of pixels with minimal power drain IIRC
RE the vibration, if it's annoying, I'll find a way to stop it by hacking the framework if required...
Hmm nothing really sticks out as bad or negative, personally just gripes.
Also annoyed by the SD card being ballache to remove, I'd prefer a external access port.
I'd prefer Samsung not stamping there name front and back, on the back would have been fine, I'm well aware of what i bought it doesn't need a f'in label.
Disappointed with the hotspot on the camera CCD. had this on the HD2, Desire etc.
I don't like the lack of a notification LED
The clicking of the hardware key sounds cheap IMHO.
16gb storage, hmm 2gb apps 2.5gb unaccounted for? 500mb Rom 500mb Rom backup? even at that rate, still missing 1.5gb ???
Battery life isn't what i hoped for, can't get anywhere near other users standby times
USB2GO not included nor HDMI lead?
all in all i am happy but a few adjustments and it would have been perfect, literally

Those two drawbacks are actually disturbing, as SGS has an option to disable shutter sound from within camera settings.
I also remember, that in previous, first Froyo firmwares for SGS it was also vibrating at night when charged.
Samsung fixed it with newer firmwares and this problem was gone.
I wouldn't worry about this just yet, I think those two maybe fixed in the future.

Really strange usually U.K or Europe for that matter has the function to silent shutter noise when in silent/vibration mode for companies like Samsung, Nokia etc.

I'm actually glad they did this. People need to know that it is a Samsung phone and not a knock off of an iPhone most people believe it to be. The general public will be amazed with Super AMOLED plus therefore I think it was good Samsung to do this front and back. (IMHO)

I'm only going to refer to the 16GB part. I know that when I purchase ANY storage (hard drive, memory card) it is NEVER the full amount. Such as my 16GB micro SD card gives me around 14GB of space. Just like my 500GB hard drive is also in the 400 something GB range for usable space. It is just the nature of storage, you never get the full amount .
my personal negatives are:
1.no touch to focus on camera app.(it does work, my bad)
2.aliasing on web pages.
3.too many incompatible games.
4.no mhl cable bundled with the phone
that's all

i dont understand. original SGS had the vibrate issue when full, so they fixed it. they relesae the successor, and put the issue back in place? oh samsung you silly devil dogs, cant think things thru can they...kinda stupid.
My number one concern is bbc iplayer.
When I visit the iplayer website and play video it suffers from stuttering.
My second concern is white mesh on flash animations. Why cant the vectors be smooth like flash on the pc?

Hi There,
I am new here, but have noticed a lot of people around the web having problems with the output volume of the SGS2's headphone port. I am told that this is because of a European Union Volume law for Portable Electronics. Whilst this is great for stopping kids burning out their eardrums, some of us use their phones in high-noise environments and/or use external speakers with the phone.
I have found that whenever I am riding my moped with headphones in and music playing on my Galaxy S2, I have been barely able to hear the music, let alone when I plug in my X-MINI II external speaker (which is usually extremely loud for it's size) the sound output has been disappointing.
TO fix it, you simply need to go to the Dialer and key in "*#*#197328640#*#1", then click on the following options:
[5]AUDIO
[1]NB (VOICE CALL)
[2]HEADSET
[1]VOLUME
[1]SRS Speech RX Volume
Then change the values of all those properties to between 88 & 100; do this by tapping one of them, pressing the menu key and pressing the "Key Input" softkey.
This solved the problem in my case, however I don't know if it works for everybody.

Whats wrong with riding your moped with your headphones on, the wind and engine noise is enough to not allow you to hear toffee, plus most drivers in cars are either texting there buddies in one hand, chatting with there missus with the other and scratching there arse with there other, whilst trying to circumnavigate a round about ridden hell hole in rush hour, then complain that there isn't enough road to swerve all over.
Only thing I would say "ONLY THING I WOULD SAY" shall I shout louder, but I had many of years riding an old moto guzzi which was louder then a loud thing, with my music blasting out megadeath ever day on my commute for three hours a day, has made me a little mutton Geoff to say the very least.

Everything. If you'd seen as many moped/cycle/motorbike users as I have who have had to have their earphones surgically removed from their temporal and parietal bones, you would agree.
I'm sorry, I thought this was supposed to be a forum about phones, not Health and Safety. I really don't care what your opinion is about riding with headphones is, I do it and will continue to do so regardless of your opinion on the subject, just like the countless others like me. If you are going to go on about how unsafe it is to ride with headphones in you might as well speculate that all cars should have radios removed too.
Perhaps if we can keep this on subject, instead of having people trolling with their unneeded opinions.

Impressive condescension for a 2-post wonder. And your "fix" has been posted several times here - the "search" button is your acquaintance.
Don't try to patronise me, I'm not trolling, and my opinion is as valid as yours.
im having the same problem with volume. it seems that fix is rather complicated but i will try it..
and so what if its been posted before. your comments on moped/mc/bike is irrelevant
certainly not needing a 'thanks' button. get us a uselessness button. im on vacation in asia, and theres a gazillion of bikes, and samsungs too. thats sheer numbers.
btw dr. dre's 'beats' doesnt put out much volume either, with the price tag on those the sensitivity could/should be better.
there must be some easier way to get volume boost/gain ? my headphones sennheiser mx-060 has a pretty good output sensitivity, only its like 10000km away atm. and dr. dre's beats are a waste of 500 dollars imo. but thats opinion again..
Try the app in my sig. Boosts headphone/headset volume considerably (doesn't work with speaker tho). You can also try Voodoo Louder from the Market for a 6dB boost.
back on PC. thanks mistabungle, i will check the sig and that voodoo louder app sounds like a +6db will quadruple the volume (+3db = double volume?) just hoping it wont be taken out on potential distortion.
btw, the dr. dre's 'beats' DO have ok quality, as i tried them on an ipod, theres nice volume and all. they're a bit overpriced, but the looks (red color) speak for themselves.
you might like these two awesome fanmade videos
pink cigarette
retrovertigo
On topic - subjective of course, but I find the beats dreadful.
And I've no distortion at all with Voodo Louder.
oh i forgot i dont use the sennheiser mx-060 (neckband headphones) anymore, they 'were' great but i guess i wore them out, the min jack connector started making problems too. The mx-060 had an awesome output as for volume/sensivity. At present I use philips SHE6000 (small earbuds) and those are great, slightly louder volume and ok quality for a cheap price.
as for those volume apps, is seems they all cost money? im running cyanogenmod 7 rom, and now im thinking there MUST be some roms that have increased volume? there's some talk about 'volume+ and other apps, but theres different 'reviews' on these volume increasing apps, some work some dont..
well, 'voodoo Louder' app that mistahbungle recommends, definitely seem to ask for money at first. hehe, its just very unlikely i'd pay for a thing like that.

off topic but.. I would like to point out that EVERY danish mobile network provider has an insane price on data when out of europe (and the out of the country prices are pretty unfair as well)
100 crowns per megabyte (thats 20USD per megabyte). Should be forbidden, and it has to end its been like that for years. so the only real choice is to jump around on different wifis from airports, hotels, cafe's, libraries etc. or consider the SGS a camera or a MP3 player that really sucks, I hope other countries doesn't have a totally unfair pricing like that.

Volume + is free and i find that it raises the sound level by about 3 on the volume scale .
But its not something i need as volume is loud at 50% on my phone .

If £0.50p bothers you (to support a developer) , then the low volume isn't bothering you enough.
I suggest you do nothing as your happy with how it is.

are you a developer of paid apps . trhy im happys as is, i mean at the rate the battery drains, i think louder volume would cost some more battery.
okey in the context of data price half a pounds doesnt bother me. what bothers me i dont like to buy potential crappy paid apps. just because they're paid for doesnt mean they're any better than a free app. i tried some partly free volume apps that really sucked or were kinda buggy.
karendar, i dont cry, i carve teeth and stomp my feet in here we have 6gb (or was it 10) per month for 100USD. but when you cross the border we get ripped, so its like a grounding
looks like i should be updating firmare soon anyway, then i will try another volume app from bazaar

Voodoo louder is by fellow xda developer supercurio, if it's sound related - trust this guy.
Unlike free apps, voodoo sound increases volume without distortion or weird sound. (such as just increasing bass whilst actually lowering mid-highs)
I can't force you to try it, but it's 0.50p & there are countless reviews to prove its efficiency.
It offers a 6db increase, & is not comparable to rubbish sound apps such as volume+

Hi There,
I am new here, but have noticed a lot of people around the web having problems with the output volume of the SGS2's headphone port.

Hello,
Please post headphones that you know of that have remote/playback/volume controls that work with the Nexus 4.
The previous thread got filled with expensive ****, so this thread is intended for regular consumers who want something affordable and compatible with the N4.
LG QuadBeats LE410 which are the ones the Google Play store sell.
One button Beats By Dre Studio works just fine!
i think those that google play sells should be ok
I am currently using a pair of "AURIA Exceed Sports Earphones (2013 version)" which seem to work well with the Nexus 4. Also fairly cheap at around $40 (shipping to the UK was another story though...)
The main reason I went for the headphones was the volume slider which works with the Nexus 4. While probably not quite as efficient as directly controlling the devices volume, however as the N4 doesn't support more than one button on the remote the volume slider does the job. The inline remote also as a mic and single button which works to pause/resume music etc.
The other benefit from my point of view is that the earphones are the older style of in ear ones - ie they rest in the outer part of the ear, rather than having a bit that sticks right into the ear. Personally I find this more comfortable and it also allows me to retain some situational awareness when out walking/jogging. I know some people prefer more noise isolation though!
Jabra Sports are great, but they are towards the pricey side. You can get them from T-Mobile for $78. I use them everyday and they are superb. I never have to take my phone out to change songs or make a call.

but I do not have any problem.

The M50's pads are similarly sized, with a slightly different shape. If the fit of the AE2 was uncomfortable, the M50's fit probably would be too.

Maybe all I need is to adjust the head band. The most I concern about is the noise cancelling. Active noise cancelling always do a better job, but have you tried using it on a bus? and how was it?
Never fails, "any headphones with volume support?" 30 responses and 1 has volume support
And as far as I know there aren't any without going bluetooth.
Dear contributors, first post is pretty clear : do you know any earbuds that support volume control + remote and if possible available for a fair price ? Please stop polluting this thread by saying you just bought earbuds and "will report" or that you "don't know" if those earbuds you happen to like are compatible. To be honest most of us don't care since we can't use these informations in any way
Here's my contribution:
Volume control works with these earbuds since it is analogic. They were quite pricey when prime time a few years ago but you can get them for dirt cheap now. Apart from volume control and mic/button, they feature nice things (decent sound, tangle free invisibleshield coated cord, pouch, clever management system ...). I ordered myself a set and got them a few weeks ago. Here's a review with some pics that in my opinion says it all. I found sound quality to be very OK without of course being mindblowing (though clearly comparable to earbuds $20 more expensive i owned). The real highlights here are the clever cable management system and compatible volume control. If you need to know anything else, just ask _ I would totally recommend them for the $27 price tag !

I have a-jays four (this is the top of the range version). Playback control works as is with google music and every other music app i tried, without requesting any extra app via central button. Sadly no support for volume control though, even with dedicated apps _ volume buttons signals are not compatible with Android. So i wont say they are fully compatible with our phone.
Can someone recommend a earpiece with solid microphone?
I had tried jay one+ but the mic not very good(too soft on the other end).

Is that a fact? For the years that I've had android phones I never really looked into the issue, I've seen people say there were hardware incompatibilities but if the ability to recognize headphone volume controls is actually absent from the OS that is a bit pathetic. I thought some of the HTC and samsung handsets offer this though, so do they bake it into the OS?
edit - I just checked the S4 and it does support volume control, at least with samsung buds, doesn't answer whether or not android natively supports it but it is at least capable.

I would like to see better EPD with reduced ghosting, bigger storage, and most importantly: lower price. The price has been the biggest issue (apart from availability) which has been keeping the developer community so small: if there are no users, why bother creating applications for the device?
But based on the few articles I've read, most of these issues are being worked on for the next iteration: http://www.technobuffalo.com/2015/0...taphone-2c-heres-whats-coming-next-from-yota/
Edit. Oh yes, a notification led. There is no way seeing if you've got messages apart from opening the front screen in the dark. The led should be placed on one of the sides so it would be visible no matter which screen was facing up.
When they lowered the price it showed less people where interested.

Curious. Well, the specs are falling behind pretty fast, and I think the big mobile giants had just released a new devices around that time. (S6 or the Edge, whatever it was called)
The cancellation of North America's launch migth actually move the release date of Yotaphone 3 closer than it was planned before, because now they don't need to get rid of those North America specific Yotaphones and wait for the market to settle and be ready for new iteration. Hopefully they can compete with the other flagship phones feature and valuewise.
If the specs where higher I think the price was good but the price for yotaphone 2 was too high just for an epd. What amazed me was the lack of development.

Agreed. The development of 3rd party apps was greatly hindered because they released the SDK so late in the device's life cycle - and it's still in beta! The documentation is terrible, if not non-exsistent, and there are very few examples and/or tutorials. I practically had to tear the existing applications apart to get an idea how to do basic things. Also, I still haven't been able to get the emulator to work, so you basically NEED to have an actual device to develop anything. So it really isn't that developer friendly at the moment.
When it comes to 1st party apps, I think they have been quite alright. There is still room for improvement, but as of the latest updates I am ok with the current state. Most likely their development team has been working on bringing the support for Lollipop, so that has taken majority of their time.
Love the V2 phone a lot but too much wrong with it. I am an e-ink enthusiast and I think the display on this phone is fine... there is always a tradeoff between 'cleanliness' and speed... see this vid I made for the Nook https://vimeo.com/67164582 - and really if you want an outdoor phone, this is the only one on the market!
My wishlist
1) Actually have the battery life work as promised. My old Samsung Note does as well and it doesn't have an EPD or any fancy energy saving modes. The Y2 seems to last a couple of days on standby in Lollipop, not impressive.
2) Manage the heat properly in the phone, so it doesn't get excessively hot: that's a sign that (1) above isn't working properly - if your processor is working overtime when just reading stuff you have a problem
3) Make the case openable, so you can replace the battery, otherwise you're doomed to binning the phone after a 18 months- 2 years, and values of secondhand phones will(and are) reflecting that.
4 )Get the software written somewhere where things like QA, unit testing, documentation etc are culturally acceptable. Better to do these things well and deliver small but robust functionality. Okay, it won't sell a stack of phones but at least your service/support lines won't be jammed... and you never know, some of the folks on this forum (and me) might write some software for it!
5) Put a reasonable camera on the phone, unless you like all your shots looking like they are done in the Mosow subway...
6) Hardware buttons on the 'front' of the phone to do things like home, back etc. Makes better use of that lovely display(which is good imho)
7) Sell it with a bumper to protect the phone or make it more robust.
8) Allow you to remove the ABBYY spyware service (a dictionary that needs to know my contacts???) without rooting.
I might get another one but they seem prone to bomb out and get unrecoverable.. it is a big gamble...
It would seem that Yota is teaming up with ZTE for YotaPhone 3: http://www.androidauthority.com/yotaphone-3-zte-yota-642364/
Interesting to see what this means in practice. ZTE at least has the volume in production Yota has been severely lacking.
My whishlist:
I know it is probably unlikely but it would be cool if it was running Android Marshmallow (One step further towards impossible would be CyanogenMod)... Sooo, I don't know the restrictions to this but I know that the Pebble Time has a color e-paper display, if it's possible to upscale that to the bigger screen, it would be the best. Otherwise please either include a SD-Card slot or at least more internal storage than the YP2. I'm not that into much camera stuff but it wouldn't hurt either... And if anyhow possible, do include NFC, please... And as a final 'request:' add capacitive buttons, I'd be switching from a OnePlus One and just the choice is really great. With all this please do keep the price moderate.
Thanks.
TL;DR:
-Android Marshmallow (possibly CyanogenMod)
-SD-Card slot
-more internal storage
-NFC
-capacitive buttons
-maybe camera improvements
-always on E-Paper color rear display
-decent price?
On my wishlist, there would of course be many point already mentioned by other posters, but here's the top features I'm currently missing on my Yotaphone 2, and that I'd like to see in the Yotaphone 3:
1) First and foremost, a backlight for the EPD screen. I mean, my 100 Euros e-ink reader (Kobo Aura) features a user-selectable (on/off, and brightness level) backlight on its b&w e-ink display, and even when keeping the backlight always on at the minimum setting, I still get a month worth of battery life on a singe charge. Don't get me wrong, the EPD, is wonderfull in daylight, when there sunshine, etc. But right now, I find myself using my Kobo reader half the time because I can keep on reading in the dark, when my wife's asleep.
2) Already mentionned, but I do happen to own a Pebble Time smartwatch with a color e-ink screen, and I'd definitely love to see this technology in the EPD on the Yotaphone 3.
3) Third party software. As stated above, due to the limitations of the EPD (lack of backlight) I still find myself using my Kobo reader, and the lack of EPD-enabled Kobo-compatible e-reader application makes it a PITA to keep my ebook in sync between the two devices. Sure, I could use the Kobo reader on the Yotaphone, but the application is terrible and doesn't suport the EPD.
4) A dictionary that do work. Heck, I even went as far as spending a couple of bucks on additional dictionaries for Abby on the Yotaphone, but it seems that the more dictionaries I add, the less definitions it finds when I lookup an english word in my ebooks...
5) Hardware button, LED notifications, removable battery are definitely on my list, but only after a memory expansion slot (microSD), as 32Gb is definitely too small to hold a decent amount of audio/video.
6) I vote in favor of the better camera, but I'd particularly would appreciate a bigger framerate allowing slow motion videos like on the iPhone/iPod. My kids and wife can produce some great slow-motion videos on their Apple devices, and I can't. Life's not fair... )

What do you think of Pebble's color screen in practice? My understanding was that it is basically just a low-power LCD screen, so not a "true" e-ink screen. Does it work well in sunlight? Does it suffer from ghosting like Yota's EPD? Does it go blank when the battery runs out or keep the last image?

I'm really happy with the Pebble Time's color display.
Sure enough, the colors/brightness are far, far from an Apple Watch, say, or my previous smartwatch (Moto 360). But in sunlight the screen is wonderfully easy to read. In poor lighting conditions (indoor, night, whatever....) you do need the backlight, though, but initially I had the motion detection enabled to have the screen automatically backlit when moving my arm to read time, but I found out that most of the time it wasn't needed, and was using power, so now I just press a button (back button) when I need the backlight, and regardless of motion detection the battery life is impressive.
No ghosting at all, unlike the EPD on the Yotaphone, and I didn't completely drain the Pebble battery so I can't be 100% sure that the last image stays on the display in that case.

I'm going with same tactic as I did with the Yota 2 - google phone name every day once. Nothing solid on dates yet, all we really know it's it's meant to come this year and ZTE are building it.

They tried with the indiegogo approach, it didn't outcome well. They could insert the HSPA. Here on Brazil they got the LTE network right, but they didn't move yet.
It's a small company and I hope it gets bigger. They try to sell advances in cellphone tecnology, since most of the others big names on the market just update hardware and software, with no thinking outside the box like before.
I just think the prices are too high. Got myself a second hand one (yet yotaphone 1), really amazing device. I need lots of reading, so this device is just great to me.
I hope yota3 comes to USA and other countries.
Best wishes!
Good luck finding a Chinese manufacturer that listens to the needs of existing customers. But at least they will produce a phone with a competitive price.
Wish list? I agree with others' lists, to keep up the radical reputation will require a large colour EPD.
Hello Pixel C community!!!
Just wanted to give my initial impressions and pictures.
PICTURES
To sum up the initial experience, this device screams premium. It starts with unboxing:
So far everything is really responsive. The screen is brilliant and very bright. There is no lightbleed that I can tell whatsoever. Lightbleed is a BIG pet peeve of mine and this is refreshing to see that it is a non issue. The power and volume buttons have the same feel as the finish and they are firm. There is a tactile (not audible) click to them that I wish more devices have.
The speakers are loud and clear. They do lack in the low end but that is to be expected in phones/tablets in general right now. The mic's for "OK Google" work well close up (about 5ft range) but further than that it only sometimes picks up my command. I think I read down the road they will have support for "OK Google" with the screen off but for now it only works with it on.
The keyboard is very robust. It has a weight to it that builds confidence for travel. When the keyboard is attached to the front of the display the device has a solid and firm feel. It really has that familiar laptop feel when it is closed. Typing on the keyboard is a breeze. I was afraid the thin enter key would give me trouble but so far it has not. I do wish there was a track pad but I was planning on getting a portable mouse (Microsoft Arc Touch) for productivity on the go.
I set this up as a brand new device. After the setup and updates there is about 23.5 GB of storage left over. While charging there is a slight warmth coming off the back. It is charging (as I type) very rapidly. The charge cable is the USB type C and the length is adequate and on par with every other device I have bought.
All in all this is a very nice device so far. I have much to do with it still to get the full feel but right now it is blowing me away! I thought the initial experience of the Nexus 6P was great...This is amazing!
Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any questions or concerns and I will try to address them asap!

Hi, nice to share this with us. I consider buying one, but only when Microsoft Office apps and MobileSheets is working properly. Would you mind testing this? Huge thanks!
Any back light bleed?

There is not much wabble at all when typing with the keyboard while on a hard surface. Taping the display will cause a very slight wobble, a mirco wable if you will. It is really firm though. If it was bad I definetly would notice it and not like it. Im typing with is as we speak and it is a joy really.

So far on Android I have only used Google Docs. I have never tried the Microsoft office apps on any of my devices. If I end up using that solution for my needs on this I will let you know. For now Google docs work well for me.

Zero backlight bleed. One of the first things I did was crank the brightness up all the way, turn out the lights, and do a backlight bleed test. Nothing. Absolutly nothing. I went through two Nexus 10's before ultametly getting my money back because of backlight bleed. It is a big pet peeve of mine.
The build quality of the Pixel C and its keyboard is excellent.
The VERY first thing I did when I received mine yesterday, was turn off all the lights, and turn the device on. ABSOLUTELY NO LIGHT BLEED. The device feels very sturdy, and built with "Premium" in mind, just like to OP stated. Is there a way to disable the battery light on the back?

Awesome! I guess some units had a bad wobble since I remember seeing some videos of some having a lot of wobble and some having none. Hope mine is like yours

While I'm not the OP, my Pixel C also arrived yesterday. I think ultimately it all depends upon how hard of a typist you may be. For me, this happens to be one of the most stable detachable keyboards I've ever used. It's definitely more stable than my Surface Pro 3 which I currently do most of my labor intensive tasks on .
I will add that the consensus of reviews I read immediately after placing my order cited keyboard lag on their test models. It didn't bother me though since I was primarily concerned with using this as a tablet replacement (for my ancient Google Nexus 10) as opposed to a laptop replacement. All I can say is that I've yet to experience any issues with key lagging or intermittent connectivity. While I did have to refresh my bluetooth scan a couple of times during the initial setup, I'm absolutely loving my keyboard's performance thus far.
There is an OTA update it immediately upon powering that may have something to do with resolving the so-called keyboard lagging. My only nit picks would be the lack of a trackpad, and that it does seem somewhat small. However I attribute that last matter to my previous experience with the Surface Pro 3. The more I use the Pixel C keyboard, the more I like it overall.

I appreciate your feedback as well I am growing more and more excited to receiving my Pixel C come Monday
Got my Pixel C today too (I'm typing this message out on it). Really impressed with the quality of both the tablet itself as well as the keyboard attachment; top notch all around. Screen is gorgeous, even if it does have a lower PPI than my 2013 Nexus 7 and my Nexus 6. I was worried about this when moving up to a larger size tablet, but so far I have no reason to complain. Haven't had a chance to try out the audio quality through the built-in speakers yet, but I'll watch my daily YouTube videos tonight on it to get an idea of what they sound like.. Not expecting miracles, but as long as they're decent quality, I'll be happy. For any serious listening (movies and such), I'll use my Pendulumic S1+ blutooth headphones.
I'm not going to do much on it tonight, as my USB-C to USB-A cable arrives from Amazon tomorrow, and at that poiint I'll unlock the bootloader, which will wipe the device anyway, so I'm just goinig to be using the bare minimum tonight. I do hope we get root soon, as I need to install an adblocker a.s.a.p. - haven't surfed without one in years outside of work, and I forgot how much of a pain it is!
Really, I'd say the whole unit just exudes quality. I was going to wait for a month or two to see how things progressed before making the final decision to buy one, but I got caught up in the hype when the embargo lifted on Tuesday, and all the reviews, both positive and negative, just reenforced how great this tablet would be for me. Not sorry at all that I went ahead and ordered it right away, and so far, with the little time I've had with it, I'm loving it.
[Edit] Just to throw one criticism out there, I did experience one instance of keyboard lag when typing up this post. Was easy to see as the letters just stopped appearing as I was typing. Stopped, and waited about 15 - 20 seconds, and then everything started back up again. I can see this getting annoying if it happens often enough, and I do hope Google fixes this in an upcoming software patch.

That's very good to know! My Nexus 9 pissed me off with the craptacular display! Backlight bleed and defective panels, my 9 was a nightmare.
Would you be so kind as to run the Androbench storage benchmark? I am really curious to see how the storage stacks up, speed wise. Nexus devices have historically had pretty piss poor storage performance and I am curious if the Pixel C is any better.

Thank you!
I just ran the same benchmark on my Nexus 6P. It's kind of sad how much slower the Pixel C is, storage-wise. I don't understand why Google wont use a decent memory architecture in their devices...
Apples to apples using your image:

It looks like the sequential read is a bit on the slower end compared to the Nexus 6P. I love my N6P :victory:
I will say that the Pixel C is a pretty snappy device though. Much more fluid compared to my Note 10.1 2014 Edition.
