I9506 or s5 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I could never find a normal size phone. Thinking of i9506 or S5. Which would you all get? Performance seems almost same. I'd like to install CM. Thoughts? Thanks.

S5, no discussion.
The S5 has features that are missing from the GT-I9506. Fingerprint sensor is the best example.
Anyway, just don't get the S5 Neo.

Is S5 faster than Nexus 5 ?

I have Nexus 5 and I like how fast and fluid its interface is.
I've been thinking whether I should upgrade to S5 (snapdragon), but scared of its slow touchwiz.
Does anyone have both phones ? How S5 compares in terms of UI responsiveness ?
Pure and raw responsiveness is superior in the N5.
Pure android has no lag whatsoever.
Touchwiz has its laggy places but it's tolerable. I come from an N5 and don't regret it.
The battery life and camera are totally worth it.

The S5 is a quick device and is responsive in day to day to use with only the occasional stutter under heavy usage.
With that said, the Nexus 5 is the quicker device but keep in mind the Nexus 5 is a very barebones device compared to the S5.
It would be simply illogical to expect the S5 to be quicker than the Nexus 5 when it is filled to the brim with features and additional services which maintaining a basically identical processor.
It's like expecting a stock car with all the seats, features and technology still intact to be quicker than the exact same car with all the seats and features removed.
It really comes down to your values, if you value a "quicker" UI over a more a feature packed OS than keep the Nexus 5.
If you care more about software features, image quality, removeable memory, superior battery life and additional hardware features and are also capable of putting up with the occasional stutter then the S5 is the device for you.

Yeah owned the n5 before I switched to the s5. The n5 was definitely smoother to use. But I like the bells and whistles the s5 have.

The S5 can't even best a lowly little Motorola Moto E (link).

Does anyone know whether there are already custom roms available that are as close as possible to a barebone android for S5 ?

If you look in the original dev s5 fourms you'll see a few AOSP roms in there already. This is what will give you a close to bare bones experience. Ive tried a few and its an immediate improvement in responsiveness over the touchwiz crap. They aren't ready for daily use yet as they barely support calling/sms/data and have trouble with sensors, haptic feedback etc but its looking very hopeful so far, i'm impressed how far along they are already.
If you can't put up with touchwiz at all then don't get an S5, because it isn't certain that custom roms will fully work. However the battery life and removable SD slot were more important to me than getting a pure android experience.
To be honest is you are going to install an aosp rom on s5 and remove all the useful stuff associated with touchwiz you may as well use the N5 and save a few hundred. You would be removing a lot of what makes an s5 an s5
TW has carried the stigma with it from s1 when, granted, it was pretty bad. Now however its not bad at all and actually adds some very useful things.

Are there any rumors about the introduction of GE version at Google I/O this summer ?

[Q] Can a Galaxy S4 active display be swapped into a normal S4?

Like the title asking. I'm trying to determine whether an S4 active screen(LCD/Digitizer) can replace an S4 screen. From what I know, yes the S4 screen is a slightly lesser drain and a better display than the S4's display.
A simple question.
Sell ur s4 active... buy a normal s4.

[Q] What's the difference between the Camera of 9500 and i337

I have a galaxy S4 I9500. today I went to a mobile store to buy a new S4 for my friend. there was a S4 I337 over there (I think it's for AT&T, right? ). when I was working with it I found a huge difference between their cameras . in fact, I337 was a lot better than than mine (9500). when I compared their lenses, 337 was much more bigger and it was somehow green!!! does anyone know what's going on?
the display was also a little better.
anyone?

I had a S3 i747 and I was pretty satisfied with it, I had it with CM11 and just love it badly and think that an S4 upgrade will be unnecesary because I didn't see why the people get excited when it was first launched.
Recently I had the oportunity of hold a S4 in my hands and I see that is not larger than a S3 and I liked so much its design, the size of the LED button, its screen size and the quadcore procesosr improvement also was good so I decide to go for a S4. I bought a second hand i337m S4 for about US 300 after sold my i747 in about US 250 so it was a no thinking situation for me. I haven't noticed any annoying bug on stock rom, the camera app was pretty cool with plenty of effects and WatchOn app was great to control your TV. I'm a hardened CM fan so I can't wait to see it on my cellphone so I installed it and so far (I have CM for about 5 days now) the only bug I have see is that while the phone is charging, you can't power on the cellphone (you just have to disconnect it and power on, not a big deal), for TV control I use Peel Smart Remote App and it works just as good as Samsung's app
In conclusion: I would say that if you feel good with your S3 you have no particular need for buy a S4 (probably get the same experience with some improvements) but if you have the oportunity of upgrade at a good price, then go for it

Hi,
some users have problems with Kitkat and some don't.
In general custom roms are running better than the original system. My guess. I'm very satisfied with S4 developed custom roms
It is your choice. There aren't any big hardware changes except full HD screen and camera quality.

thanks for yr reply...... yes custom roms are amazing... ill buy a S4 and see....hope no problems
thanks a lottttttttttttttttttt
I had S3 and I have now S4 (i9500) with Kitkat update, S4 have 2 GB Memory (S3 only 1 GB) & it is more smooth than S3, S4 also doesn't lag as much as S3 do.
in general S4 is a nice update for your current S3, but if you want my advice try to get S5, the screen in S5 is way more accurate and better than S4 screen, the battery also is more powerful.
it depends on how much you are ready to pay $.
Hi i also upgraded from s3 to s4 last October, i would. Recommend You to upgrade to s4 as it is a really good and compact device with 1080p display and thin bezels, unlike the ugly s5 which isn't compact.

Buy a S5 now?

Hy guys, I have an iPhone 5S and I want to return to Android. I can trade my 5S with an Galaxy S5 or Galaxy Note 3. I know hardware of both devices, but which is the best for performance, gaming, battery life? I want to mod the phone when i pick up it, so I want to install on S5 or Note 3 a rom that can port UI and apps of S7/Note4-5 on the device. So, help me.
Galaxy S5 pro: better display, better camera, IP67 certificate, fingerprint, S-health with cardio, Snapdragon 801 > Snapdragon 800
Galaxy Note 3: S-Pen, display 5.7inch (I love big display), better sound, better multitasking (3GB ram), and A LOT OF ROM, there are very fantastic porting of galaxy s7, note 5 and more..
So, Galaxy S5 or Note 3?
Whats your budget? I would skip the note 3, thats way old now. S5 is still good, but if you have budget then note 4 would be a better option. Good luck.
