Would like to see opinions and benifits. I honestly tried using both and I don't see a difference whatsoever. Battery life is the same stutters here and there. Love to hear other experiences
Added the T-Mobile firmware cause it seems some ATT users have been using it. I am on it right now and seems okay so far only thing not working is WiFi calling. Not as much TM bloat. Ill update once I find out more.

the U firmware is much smoother on my end
Wonder what I am doing wrong. I do feel at times it is smooth. But the A firmware was the same. Ill give mine a couple of days
For me, no comparison, U is the way to go. Also the data toggle missing from the att firmware is pure madness.

I have run the Tmobile version, the At&T version and the U version and all are the same. Battery Life is the same or close enough on all ROMs. The Tmobile one has the setting in a list and the AT&T one does the setting in tabs. the tmobile version also has Samsung cloud. But all in all I have not seen any big difference between them. If you use Package disabler pro you can debloat any of them so its not really an issue.
Better battery, and you can tether without a tethering plan.

I don't think it's the firmware I have same issues with A
Also I'm on PH1 can I still flash the U firmware? Or Tmobile firmware.

That is the one with the September patch correct? If so YES you should. They both have the same bootloader. Keep in mind you can never downgrade a bootloader you are only able to upgrade.
I think it's slightly more smoother, better battery (I get an extra hour or two which I think it's worth it). Plus the added storage (I know we have SD) but it's still a plus. I think it's worth the switch.

I definitely have a much better battery life with the U firmware. Also, turning off all radios (Bluetooth, WiFi, data, etc.) Significantly improve stand by time. Sometimes I charge my phone to 100 percent before sleeping, so I turn everything off and after about 8-10 hours of sleep I wake up with about 97 percent. I typically start using my phone on a workday at about 10 and come home around 7. 10 hours of moderate usage, half hour drive to work streaming Pandora, then usually streaming music at work on and off plus normal app usage and light games, then 30 minute drive home streaming Pandora, I have typically 30 percent, sometimes 20 if I use it a bit more. That's much better then coming home to 10-15 percent when I had the ATT firmware. Both firmware's seemed to run smooth, but I feel like I've had a better experience with the Unlocked version. I'm never going back to carrier bloated firmware or phones. Unlocked from here on out
And to root this firmware is the same process as the at&t firmware?

The last U firmware is this G935UUEU4API3 , you can download from here "samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-G935U"
Use this version of ODIN "d-h.st/gsDA ", this worked for me
I have the G935A and it keeps crashing and gets stuck in a boot loop and I have to do a factory reset to get it working again.
I was thinking about replacing the ROM and was wondering which would be the best alternative. I hate the AT&T bloatware.

I flashed U yesterday it is studdering. Probably from poor optimization. I am going to flash A later today. I am also getting really bad benchmark scores from U Firmware

No never had any lag at all. By far the smoothest of all three firmwares I have tried. You need to make sure you flash the right U firmware. There are different version of it out on Sammobile depending on which carrier you use. Also you have to make sure you completely factory reset your phone before you flash it. Also use the normal CSC file not the "Home CSC" so you get a completely clean install. I factory reset the phone from the settings menu, then booted into recovery and factory reset the phone from there as well.
Getting much better battery life. Normally only losing between 2% and 3% over 8 hours while I sleep. The AT&T firmware was more like 6% -10% for me. Also it is just faster.

I would say if you want a really stable ROM, go with Alliance Build 2 which is NE9. It is stable and still offers a ton of custom options. I get great battery life with it as well. If you want to be completely up to date, I've used OptimalROM which is NI2. It seemed pretty stable. I haven't tried ACHERON ROM yet but it looks very good as well. I've said in many other threads that I see no advantage of NI2 over NE9 at the moment. It's really up to you in the end though.
Does KitKat really have better battery life as it's advertised? I just got a replacement gs5 today through squaretrade insurance and I'm shocked its still on stock NCG!

One thing...I always use power saving mode and on 4.4.4 they added a stupid icon on the notification bar to let me know its turned on. Is there a way to get rid if that icon? Its bugging the hell out of me looks like a trash can

The best and easiest way I know of to get rid of it is to use Xposed and gravity box. It will let you disable specific notifications that you do not want. There isn't a built in function to disable the notification.

Edit: It's taking forever to download.

5th Try
I have tried to update around 5 times. 2 of which I fully wiped the phone. I keep getting "upgrade failed", and installation interrupted. This is really frustrating...
Someone please save it before applying it and upload for those of us not so lucky to get it...as if there's so many Note Edges out they need to be selective...but thats' ATT
edit: it's downloading for me. I'll try to save it and upload 1.2GB sounds like a full rom not an update. None of my previous phones lollipop updates were this large!
Downloading right now! This makes up for not having root yet for att. Download is real slow though
It is taking over 2 hours to download.....
Downloading it now it is a snail paced download, hopefully fixing some kitkat issues.
I have an Outlook forced device encryption. What are all the "Must do" steps before I can install successfully? I'm sure it will fail based on past experiences. Txs.
Anyone have any idea when the Best Buy Samsung reps will get this update pushed to their system? I bought the regular Note 4 because I wanted Lollipop right away but I had to go to the Samsung kiosk at BB to get the update pushed to my phone. I was there last night at 10pm and they said that it was still listed as KitKat in the system. I'm hoping for something before my 14 days with the Note expires.
Took 4 hours to download.
Runs fast. Has the blocking mode exception. Battery life seems a little worse, for now. Maybe because I'm playing with it too much...

can you upload it im in canada and have the at&t N915A version but might not get the update here. http://cdn4.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon14.gif
Finally!! Took 2hrs to download for me. Been running it for about 4 hrs and it's definitely an improved experience. No lag, I can write using the stylus without the urge to throw my phone at a wall lol.. and it doesn't take a decade to view my recent apps. Its about damn time AT&T!
I wonder if this would be workable on a T-Mobile phone since Roms are usually interchangeable.
Issues so far
To all who have upgraded - Do you also experience the following issues:
Notifications do not show in the "briefing panel" any more
Floatification shows duplicate notifications
the night clock is too bright now due to the thicker font used
when I select an item on the S Planner panel it takes me to yesterday's calendar entries
Notifications on the Lock Screen cover the user information (could become a big deal because I have a message asking to call my wife's number if found)
Apart from that I like Lollipop but I hope the issues above can be resolved somehow.
UPDATE: Some of the issues went away after a couple of restarts I am MUCH happier already!
Thanks!
Second failed attempt here trying to download and install the update from AT&T onto my Edge.
And I have to wait another 24 hours to try again.

Does the Exynos have 4g?
Which is better for music playback through earphones

I got the N910C (Exynos) specifically because it has Wolfson DAC and the Snapdragon doesn't. Sounds great on my Sennheisers - so much so, I sold my treasured Sony Walkman
So what have you guys got on yours KK Or Lollipop?
Lollipop. Upgraded the day I bought it and never looked back. Did a factory reset before setting it all up, just to be on the safe side. Getting 6+ hours screen on time. Runs very smoothly - just minor lag when pressing the recent apps button, but that's rumored to be fixed in 5.1.1.

Does the Exynos get the updates same time as snapdragon or is it pot luck?
Sorry, not 100% sure of the answer to that, but I would expect there will be some difference as they are different internals/architectures. No idea which would get priority.

How is it on Lollipop? Before I rooted my snapdragon N4 it was awful on LP.
As I said above, it's fine. I have had absolutely no problems, and can't think of anything to complain about. Haven't rooted, and haven't found anything I wanted to do that I couldn't. YMMV of course, and a lot can depend on what apps you have installed. I disabled a lot of the bloatware, like Facebook, Flipboard etc. I haven't found the need to use Power Saving mode yet, and run with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on all day.

Yes, as far as I know - I have read of others using the Poland ROM. But you don't have to download a ROM, you should get the Lollipop update OTA or by plugging into Kies (or Smart Switch or whatever it's called now).

No noticable difference. Seems like the battery is lasting longer, but this is just taking off the charger at 7am this morning to 1130am right now, and with normal email/text and streaming music, with all on push, I am at 91%.

No problems so far, battery seems about the same. You have to download a FM radio app of your choice from the play store to get FM and use your wired headphones for the antenna.
Battery was worse and phone started heating up very quickly after the update. Quick clearing of the cache partition in recovery seems to have done the trick though.
Anyone using the adb mod to enable internal storage and accepted an OTA? Does the update revert the mod or mess up an SD card setup as internal storage in any way?

Never updating
I took it (without root, I've kind of surrendered and decided to see what a mindless conformist feels like :/). I gotta say, it has dramatically improved battery while inactive. I had misplaced it yesterday morning and when I found it in the late afternoon, it has only used 1% of the battery (at 99%). That's the second time I've noticed it.
I have to enter my pin after a reboot, but my print works fine after the initial entry, same as before the update.

Not sure what you mean by "safe" but typically you just use Odin to flash full stock 5.1.1, do a factory reset in stock recovery afterwards and you're done.

Not really the place to discuss it so I'll keep it brief.
My girlfriend has a Nexus 5X. The phone is amazing, updates are quick and common. It operates perfectly on marshmallow with no noticeable issues. We live in bum**** and she still gets service wifi calling and texting is fine, and no contracts. We pay about 42 a month for hers with insurance.
Well one thing I noticed (not sure if it was this update or the last one) is that when you pick an application to use (like browser) it becomes the default. With the old OS it would ask you to use just once or make it the default. Arrgggg I prefer to pick the application as needed and not make it the actual default.

The MM update made this change to default app handling. I liked the old way too. Now if I want to change the default app I have to remember which app was set as default before I can make the change. Sometimes remembering which app was set as default isn't easy to do.
Deleted. Think was in wrong thread.
Been a long time sense I've posted anything in this forum.
I just went back to the Note 4 and did the MM update and have noticed a heavy draw on the battery compared to LP. Am wondering if letting it did cycle through a few time might correct the battery drain. Was on an iPhone for awhile, but for personal reasons came back android. Has anybody tried that yet. Have been temped to hard reset and start fresh to see if it fixes it.
This update has increased the battery draw on mine and it is running HOT! Need help.
