Phab 2 (not pro/plus) root reports (none yet) - Lenovo Phab 2 Questions & Answers

just got my Phab 2 from lenovo today. trying various methods and will report if anything works.
kingoroot - no

Well just made it through my first day of using the phab 2.
Some good, some bad.
Battery life is not what I expected. 100% to 50% from 10am to 8pm. Moderate usage, Waze navigation for about 10 minutes. I came from a Huawei mate 2, so my standards are pretty high.
Some glitches setting up Bluetooth with Microsoft sync. Would not reconnect after initial setup without turning car off. Although, I will note that sync has had its own issues.
No root means no app settings, everything is too big.
The stock launcher is outrageously boring and not customizable. I could not find any real settings to adjust icon size, or even to change icons.
Now for the good:
Overall Android build is very stable and quick, no hangups with many apps running.
Display is very crisp for being a low-end model, and includes settings to adjust tone and color intensity.
Very little bloatware.
Camera is actually pretty good. Not perfect, but ok for 200$.
Plenty of good comments about 6.0, as I came from 4.3, but I'll spare the entire Android review.
But, this is what makes me never want to buy a Lenovo phone again. I called lenovo to get some basic specs on this phone that were not verified online. I went through 10 minutes of automated dialog and 5 different phone numbers. No one knew who to talk to about this phone. They're so focused on the big customers that they forgot to provide any support for what may be their biggest seller? On top of that, the guy I finally got in contact with at technical support was baffled that I would call about something other than a desktop or laptop, and did not have the information about this device on hand. This isn't a problem, as I got what I needed, but it almost seemed like no one was aware that this device was even available yet. Nothing in their support site references it, no real technical detail available, etc.
Anyways, I digress. There aren't many other 6.4inch phones available, so I can't complain too much. Overall, Im enjoying the experience. Plus, it gets attention.

Where did you get this... I've been looking to get one but haven't found a source...I'm assuming you're saying battery life is weaker than on the HAM2? Thanks again

Directly from lenovo. Yes, but the ham2 is pretty much the top tier in terms of battery life.
After a few days with it, I can go all day with Bluetooth Pandora, 2+hours straight of screen on time, 30 mins of Waze and have 40% left. I'd say it's doing pretty good for a standard phone. A few issues I've had are, the stock alarm app notification gets stuck and cannot be dismissed on occasion. A restart fixes this. Bluetooth AND Microsoft Sync have to be reset when a failed connection happens (this also occurred on my ham2, but only once every 2 months. This is once a day.) There are always 2 network icons in the notification bar for some reason.
On the up side, the camera has proven to be excellent in standard lighting. Pictures take a while to 'click.'
Touch response is very clean, will say I'm impressed with either the phones accuracy or androids ability to detect where a touch was meant.
My biggest pet peeve is also one of my favorite features. The navigation buttons are so dim that you can't see them in the daytime, but they're also so close together for such a large phone. But, this gives you plenty of room to grasp the phone without exiting an app by mistake, or bringing up a menu midst message.
Anyhow, I'll gladly answer any questions anyone has.

Thanks for the info... Lenovo doesn't have a place to order it yet for the U.S., at least that I can find.

Here ya go:

I'm expecting mine today/Monday. Can't wait to get back into a proper-sized large phone. I've missed them since I sold my Sony Z Ultras...

Yeah I saw them on sale now, thanks. Can someone who has one please post a full Antutu benchmark score with 3D? The reports I've seen on the MTK8735 suggest a benchmark of around 31000, which isn't terribly impressive, but I'd like to see it on this device specifically. Thanks!

Any luck with rooting your phab2? I cannot find any method.

Is there any method to root lenovo phab 2?

How are the AR features? Any of them useful?

this version does not have AR features. You're looking for the Plus/Pro or w/e.

We're going to need to get a read back of the ROM from SP Flash tool to get root I think. What we really need is a TWRP build. I've tried quite a few variations for our chipset but haven't found one that even remotely boots yet.
hopefully we some others engage. i've got stuff I need to do with this phone, a few of which require root access of some kind.

I hope you find a way to root phab 2. Why would they lock down the fastboot? Isn't the android open source? Slowly becoming like iOS.

fast boot isn't locked down, nor is the boot loader (once you unlock it). The problem is none of the MTK tools that I have are working like they are supposed to.
I've started a DEV thread with the stock images attached. Perhaps someone else will have better luck

My device is from Philippines. I unlocked the bootloader, but from recovery I cannot access bootloader. Device would not let me choose bootloader even though has the option, and from fastboot reboot, the device would not reboot.

the boot loader IS fast boot. Lenovo devices are notorious for allowing you one fast boot command per boot into the loader.

what do you mean by one fast boot command per boot into the loader?

You can only issue a single fastboot command before having to reboot back into the boot loader to issue another.

[Q] Help! Setup Wiz Crashes after Factory Reset!

I just rooted my (R2-D2) Droid 2 two days ago using the app z4root (via 4shared). I'm on stock 2.2 (and by that I mean what came on the phone, so it's actually a light Blur 2.2)
Then I wanted to get rid of some of the bloatware, so I downloaded Bloat Freezer (still available on the Market) to do that. After freezing whatever apps I saw fit, I returned to see my homescreen black. I did some research and apparently this stems from "freezing" something to do with MotoBlur. I know for sure that I froze "Files" and "AccountSync", which apparently caused this problem with other people.
Supposedly a factor reset would fix it, but it didn't. So that's why I'm here.
So first I tried a normal reboot. That didn't work. Then I did a factory reset. I got all the way through the Setup Wizard, and then it took me back to the "Touch the Android to Begin" screen instead of closing to the home screen like normal. When I try to go through the Wizard again it crashes after syncing an account. I've tried three or four factory resets and this happens every time.
People had this problem while they were on other ROMs and supposedly flashing back to the original OS (not stock, but "stock" i.e. what Motorola put on the phone before), but I'm not on any other kind of ROM so I don't know if that would help.
Should I flash back to the original? Can I even do that if I haven't flashed an alternative ROM? Should I just try flashing to a different ROM (MIUI or Bugless Beast)? Can you even flash a ROM if you can't access most of the phone (the only things I have access to are my email [when the message icon pops up] and the hard reset menu thing)?
Note: Sorry if this isn't in the right thread, I couldn't figure out where to put malfunction type things. Mods can move it to where ever is appropriate. I also searched both XDA and the entire internet and either no one has this problem in the EXACT way I do (i.e. not on any special ROM) or the thread is extremely, extremely dead. So that's why I made the decision to post a new thread about it. Thanks!
Edit: I re-flashed my phone with RDS Lite, and while the homescreen is back it's extremely, extremely laggy. At first I thought it was broken again until I realized it was just taking so long to respond to my finger swipes. Right now it's trying to download 46 apps in the background, so I'll wait until that's done to try again. But I had faster responses even when everything was all broken and it was trying to install 46+ apps..
Those people were right. Find the .SBF file for your version of the Droid 2 and sbf back to "stock". That should fix you problem.
I'm in the process of RSDLite-ing right now, I wasn't sure if it would help though.. Stay tuned!

I believe so. But it should be relatively easy to reroot.
UGH, IT TOOK AWAY MY R2-D2 BOOT ANIMATION......
Also, I noticed that you have the MIUI ROM. Do you feel like it performs better than stock? Faster? Sometimes I feel like the Blur-lite was a little laggy..

Did you use the file specific to your phone? Either way, you should be able to get it back. Someone ripped out all the stuff from the R2D2 phone back when it came out. It's on the net somewhere.
I love Miui. It definitely performs better than stock and is much faster. I love the polished menu system and the included GB features are great. I especially love how you can customize practically everything. It has also greatly improved my battery life. I've been getting up to 20 hours on my standard extended battery. Good stuff. And if you don't like the iOSuck look of Miui, you can always download a different launcher (like ADW) and use that (like I did). Overall it performs surprisingly well considering it's on a locked phone.
(I've played with CM7 on my Incredible and PE on my now retired OG Droid. Miui definitely performs better.)

Well apparently not.. I'll have to try and find the boot animation again.
And yeah, a lot of people have been saying the stuff about the battery life.. Have you ever tried Bugless Beast? Because that's the other ROM I'm stuck between. So I'm not sure which one is performing better on people's Droids

I haven't used it yet, but I have heard good things. I probably will try it at one point though.
Like others have told me, you're just going to have to try them and see for youself. Different people have different experiences so it is difficult to determine which is better without some kind of experience with them.

Is MIUI all in English now? I know about a year ago there were sill some things in Chinese (like the call button for example). From the pictures they showed on the official site of the Droid 2 port it looked pretty English, but I can't really find much more information on it than that..

Yeah it got fully translated. It's all english. And very polished.

Over heating and lag (thermal throttle?) multiple times a day.

I would like to know if anyone else is having the problems I am having, and possible a solution.
Multiple times a day and seemingly random times, the phone heats up temendesly and starts lagging really badly, sometimes so bad I can't even unlock it.
I can't figure out if something is causing it because alot of the time it starts happening while its in my pocket, locked. Alot of the time when it does heat up it just stays hot, so I have to turn it off and leave it for 5-10 minutes to allow it to cool down. Once it has cooled down and I switch it back on, it seems to stay cool (Untill it has another episode and overheats again).
But then other times, I can be watching videos or playing games and it is very responsive and doesn't heat up more than it should, how ever this is rare.
I searched the forums but only found one related post. They had their phone replaced once, and so have I for other reasons. Could I have a defective unit?
Are there any apps I can use to monitor resource usage to maybe see if its a rougue app or system process?
I will also mention that I am using the Hyperion extended battery for the phone, but im not sure if it plays a roll in the issue, as the battery itself does not seem to get hot, only the CPU (I can feel it very hot where the figureprint scanner is)
I have not tested the phone with the stock battery, how ever I may try this.
Thanks,
Well I have had mine a few days. And compared to other phones I have had, it at times while locked does seem a bit warmer. However it hasnt concerned me much, or been truly "HOT" as in 90c and up.
Only time my phone got extremely hot was on first boot out the box for about 30 min. I would definitely suggest seeing how it behaves over a day with stock battery, if for nothing more than process of elimination.
Not sure if your rooted? And I'm not sure any kernel has it, but the IntellX governor sits at 300mhz while locked. Useful for keeping temps down. Also kernel auditor (needs root) shows cpu/gpu/battery temps right on the "overall" section.
Not sure what other apps you have, but possibly have some kind of runaway process(s)? have you tried safe mode for a day to see if it still happens?

I might try stock battery tomorrow if I can find where I put it.
Not rooted currently.
Also not sure how to boot to safe mode?
Also just to clarify, it overheats all the time, not just when locked. I will try a temp monitoring app to see what its at when its overheating
Safe mode
With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
In the options menu that displays, press and hold Power off.
When prompted to restart in Safe Mode, tap OK.
After your device restarts, it displays Safe mode at the bottom of the screen.
Uninstall apps that are causing a problem.
Turn off safe mode
With the screen on, press and hold the Power key.
In the options menu that displays, tap Power off and restart.
The device will restart and Safe mode overlay will no longer show on the screen.
So I haven't tried stock battery or safe mode, but I did a reset on the phone. The phone has been running great. After about 2 weeks now its starting to slow again, heat up a lot more. I am really puzzled to why this is happening. I'm not sure if it is a app I have installed. Are there any apps that monitor usage on the phone? Or any other ideas why I keep experiencing these problems.
Same issue here, I fixed it by flashing a kernel that has rctd removed. Maybe systemless rooting can cause the root checking service to bug out and start spawning numerous loops until it is using up a large percentage of CPU.
To be honest there's is no fix to this. Android kinda sucks and with Development coming to a stop for this phone I'm afraid this is as fast as you're going to get it going. I suggest looking into making your own rom or getting a better optimized phone. This is of course my two cents.

But if we are honest here, the phone should not be slowing down after a few weeks usage. It should stay running almost as good as a fresh phone/reset. My old GN3 slowed down after all my apps, sure, but not like this phone does.

Maybe i'm confused by what you mean, but doesn't that mean that should only affect me if I am Rooted? Although I am thinking of rooting and trying different Kernels if it helps.
These are the types of issues I am getting. I know someone else through my job who has the same phone but does not have these issues. Is it faulty? Would a kernel fix it and are there any for my model ? (H990DS) I can't seem to find any for this phone. Send help.

I'm not sure how much useful information you can get from apps without root to monitor your device for troubles like this, but you should at least look into the monitoring capabilities in Android and have the device on for a good amount of time to catch when these performance issues hit. hopefully it is just a rogue app
It is very easy to fix Man
By simply replacing the thermal config file

well it's going to take time to figure out something like this out. what I would do is root and then use something like SystemPanel 2 https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-systempanel2-boost-clean-t3552690 and see the live view of what's currently using up CPU. what's good about this app is that it gives you an overview of usage over 3, 8, 24 hours so you can see what was using the most CPU during a certain range of time. but it would be best to see if you can have this app running for a bit and check it right when the lag is occurring.

Right. So I'm a little salty at the moment. I have had ES File Explorer on my phones for probably close to 2 years now. If anyone has used it lately you would know about the anoying notifications that it has. So last night I decided to uninstall it to see if possible ES explorer was causing the lag by indexing my files or something. And lo and behold 30 seconds after uninstalling the CPU cooled down and the phone was USABLE. Played around with it a bit, jumped from app to app, webpage, video, all running as they are supposed to, not super laggy and delayed. I am 99% sure it was ES File explorer giving me grief over the last 12 months owning this phone. I'm really hoping that was the only issue and I can now use my phone as intended. If that's all it was, then thanks for the help from those who are here.

Lack of support on a specific variant isn't cause to discredit a whole model. If you wanted support or specific functionality like root, a custom ROM or kernel for example, you research the variant with the most development activity and purchase that one. It's why I got the H990DS, that's still kicking.

Mi 9T Review - Your opinions?

Hello everyone, recently i picked up mi 9t. What a phone...
I can say that i am more than satisfied with how phone performs and what i got for 300 bucks. I decided to make a short video review and give my opinions about it. I am decent user which means that i am usually using my phone to browse around the web, instagram, watch youtube and some movies. I would be more than happy if you can give me your opinions and if you have any question do not hesitate to ask me. Also, i will make some ROOT/TWRP/ROM review videos so support is more than appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

I really think the Mi 9T is a great phone with the latest Urnyx Gcam without unlock the device. This phone takes beautiful night photos and using astrophotography setting compared to Miui's camera. It has been about 7 days that i own the Mi 9T. With certain reviews i have seen about how Miui's bloatware (and google) crippled the battery life can perform and by using this phone in real time. I think the phone can truly shine with custom rom or by using Miui EU Rom's. I have the 6GB version and this phone is running very smooth. Messenger can be hit or miss when answering, the front camera tends to not pop up at time. (So far 3-2 ratio of the camera popping up verus not) I jave not try gaming because i use my Mi Max 3 for that and also to keep the integrity of the Amoled display. As far as youtube goes, few videos take full potential of the whole display ratio and some not. When it does, the display is amazing.
That is my opinion about this phone. Tomm. i will be able to unlock and use the Xiami EU finally and can go further on what can this phone do.
For Xiomi.EU to work.. just format data and then enter "yes". If not force encryption will stay on and the phone will be rebooted back to TWRP Recovery. Also don't mount system when installing magisk.

I am also very curious how Roms are working and what can mods improve in terms of speed and battery. I cant say its not good but i think that this phone can do atleast a bit better in those terms. Well i am going to use Xiaomi.EU first. I don't like the custom roms only because the gestures have lines appearing at the bottom and the bottom sides of the screen. Can only make the side arrow gestures dissappear only, on that note, i swtich to Xiaomi.EU for full finger gesture w/o them white lines appearing.
I would recommened Extended Ui Rom if you want to go in that direction.

Yes I would agree with your ROM choice from reading on XDA, but what about full screen gestures (I think it's called) in magisk modules? Doesn't that remove the lines at the bottom and make it MIUI like?

I have not tried any magisk modules except for YouTube Vanced Black. I found the module, i guess i can try it out once i switch to a custom Rom.
Yes, the full screen gesture works.
Can confirm i really prefer the device.
Owned couple of flagships like the oneplus 6, but i like the mi 9t a lot more. The full screen is amazing and everything just works and is fast enough... Even the battery outperforms every device i owned. The phone is a bit on the thicc side... But that isn't a bad thing.
For the price, you get more for the money.
I had one screen failure, that resulted in sending it back and received a new one after the same weekend. Suffered from "ghost touches" in the area where the statusbar sits... After a couple of days it resulted in screen failure considering the top area unusable. Now i got the new one running no problems, even the fingerprint is faster.
I have been rooting around, runned HavocOS 2.9. i really liked the rom but i preferred stock due to slightly less battery drain. The downside of rooting this device is that there is a lot of stuff scattered around xda and the rest of Internet with not the best description about for which version its made for (redmi or mi 9t) or what it modifies or does... Which resulted in flashing a stock rom that made my phone think it was a Redmi K20 instead of a Mi 9T... It did boot tho.
Now i don't do much anymore with toying and flashing around like i used to. i just use audio enhancements, certain themes and adblockers. I mainly use the phone for whatsapp, youtube, android auto and music.

After I saw notch of OnePlus 6 I understood
Thought it was tear drop notch but more like iPhone, but still.... Pretty impressed to hear that!
Looks like good customer service too, I haven't even unlocked it, it's fine for me and will personalise more when I unlock it like to icon, nothing too major cause like you I prefer stock. Better battery life is all it take for me, if the ROM is not a trash experience of course.
For me it was manageable to navigate through the threads and see what's up.
Oh and also about the description I believe it is meant to run on both, and Dev decides it to be named K20 or Mi 9T depending on their device... I'm pretty sure if you asked them to change to your device's model name they would be more than happy to help out.

The notch on the oneplus 6 was not even that bad, i liked that phone but battery life was not good enough, and i go to a lot of festivals so battery is important, and sound recording quality which also sucked.
The Mi 9T on the other hand succeeded in everything i want on a phone. Android auto works, music is good, wireless audio also, battery is very good, recording quality in both sound and video is good enough (seems cheaper devices can record more bass ).
I am not going to bother with the devs, staying stock with a few magisk mods which is enough
Btw for people trying to flash stuff on this phone, make sure to read on about encryption because it can screw you over when flashing goes wrong. And maybe use a USB OTG (or something similar) so when you soft brick your device you can still flash stuff in that way... If you're usb drive isn't encrypted
By the specs one might think that this is a great phone. Actually its the worst xiaomi phone i ever had (and i had a few). I am really disappointed by it, mainly because of the software. Many people have issues with battery drain. Mine is randomly crashing, no idea why. Sometimes it suddenly drains the battery completely within 1 hour, randomly, without any announcement. My girlfriend told me once that she tried to phone me but it woas not possible. I did not believe her first. I had no notifications about missed calls. A few weeks later i got a SMS from my mailbox service - 13 people failed to phone me.
It could be a great phone but you cannot rely on it. So it's basically useless.

I don't know if you are on stock software... But maybe try to reset or re-flash its stock firmware those problems can go away. I have no battery drain, no problems with calls either, maybe you got a faulty device like i did.
I have no problems with my device, besides returning it for screen failure once and it got replaced within a few days.

I agree, i actually miss my Note 5 Pro (6 GB version). The camera on the Mi9t has GREAT specs but it don't take too much better pics than the Note 5 (both without GCAM). Not to mention that most cameras are useless, only 2x zoom is not good enough and the other cameras are too much of a low resolution that make the pics even worse (so the cams are useless). The popup camera sound as a dream, but it isn't. It already gave problems to me (and many others) and the ONLY fix is to re flash the persist partition, where we lose DRM for Netflix. The popup also make the phone too heavy and thick for my taste. MIUI actually run smoother on the Note 5 than on the Mi9t, the community also is bigger still on the Note 5 so we have MUCH more ROMs and mods... This device has still buggy TWRP on backup and restore plus decryption error on TWRP. The amoled screen also has terrible color calibration. Oh and the fingerprint sensor is the WORSE i ever had
I'm not too happy with it. One thing i learned with the mi9t is to NEVER buy a smartphone with moving parts, either popup cameras or folding phone. It is asking for middle term problems.

That isn't a small problem, though.
Also about flashing, i see many people who brick the device for no reason
Well, had it for 2 months and sold it, and got a used Mi8 instead. I couldn't stand fingerprint scanner which is really not so good, and battery life was ok but not good enough for a 4000mAh capacity. Even with debloating, dark mode etc. there was always some drainage. Mi8 is a lot more optimized in my opinion.
Recently I dropped my Mi8 and broke the screen, and decided to skip Xiaomi for the time being due to Miui 11, which looks nice but it's animations are overkill, and they are really annoying.
Got Huawei Nova 5t instead (although I hate Huawei), but it's the one of very few devices that still has physical fps scanner, and can easily get up to 10 hrs of sot.

Good choice. Sadly, perfect device doesn't exist. I would prefer Samsung with snapdragon (in my opinion OneUI is the best skin right now), but they are too expensive. I've been checking out the new S10 Lite, seems good, probably fps sensor is cr*p as in all Sammy phones, but who knows...
The only two downsides I can think of is camera crashing in pro mode and screen which got scratched with a fingernail
What can I say about this device is that I have some mixed feelings about it... The phone it's amazingly fast, I can do anything in a few seconds, but I have a big drain on the battery... I tried every ROM possible, any battery tips, nothing seems to help me, I can barely get 4h SOT with mi band 4 constantly connected, wifi/mobile data always on, location on... Other people are getting 7-8h SOT and I can't get more than 4h SOT... I'm somehow disappointed at this chapter but I really enjoy the smoothness of this phone, the amazing photos taken by the gcam, and the support of the community. Overall it's a great phone but a great downside it's the battery life if you put the phone at work

Just left my local Walmart and seen they had the new versions out already. 99$ for the 8 inch and 129$ for the 10.1. Anyone get one yet? If you do let us know how the performance compares to the previous tablets

New Amazon HD 8 comes out June 3rd starting at $90 US. Looks like better specs than the new Onns. Downside is dealing with FireOS as a bootloader unlock is unlikely.
Anybody have any actual specs on the display resolutions for both the 8 and the 10.1?

I will say that so far on a scale of 1 to 10, I'll give it an 8.5 to 9. Seems well worth the $129.00 price for what I'm going to use it!

I have enabled it in dev options but have not gotten to run adb commands on the bootloader yet. Maybe tomorrow or this weekend.
I am really hoping to at least root it even if I can't install twrp in recovery!
Will advise ....
Android 10 is a bit different when it comes to flashing
Hopefully you can unlock bootloader and grab boot.img and patch it with Magisk, and flash under recovery like fastbootd even flashing command stays the same
Unlocking bootloader
Unfortunately I can not get Win 7 to recognize the tablet. I have followed the instructions but updating MTK driver installation keeps complaining of lack of .inf file.
May try to access bootloader from Debian and see if that works.
Update on battery life .... I have not plugged it in since yesterday and have used it lightly. Still showing 80% so might have to run a movie to tax it.
Update:
I am unable to access the tablet via adb in Win 7 or Debian. Can't get Debian to recognize the unit in fastboot. Yield to those more knowledgeable
Update 2:
Ran this heavy this weekend and it went to 20% battery after 7 hours so not too bad. I still have not gotten win 7 to recognize the tablet in fastboot. This may be the first Android (10) that I own that isn't rooted. The damned ads are killin me!!!
Update 3 (4 June 20):
I have given up on rooting for fear of bricking the tablet. I have, however, installed the Blokada app and it at least blocks the annoying ad images on web browsers. Downside ... the ad text shows but I can live with that.
Battery life is still excellent so I'm gonna leave it "as is" for the moment.
So I didn't realize this was the latest tablet and attempted to root it via the older 8" tablet boot.img. The tablet won't boot now, does any have the stock boot.img? thanks!

Any luck finding any stock images for these tablets? I have the 10 inch 2020 tablet and have AOSP's generic images on the tablet -- I thought I could pull the boot.img from that tablet (both prior to and after rooting it with magisk) and use it on another one of these ONN tablets...
... but I seemed to caused the tablet not to boot (can still get into fastboot/recovery).
I just wanted to pull the stock image from it so I could reflash my tablet and return this one, but looks like it might get returned in this state. I reached out to Walmart to see if they would share the stock firmware and they asked for my email but I haven't heard anything yet.

Adb doesn't work, but fastboot works
I bought it yesterday 10.1 inch, and to me it feels ok 3 gb, , and I'm able to get unlocked , fastboot , but I had different adbs installed on my PC , first one wouldn't unlock it, second one would...so I even see it on booot, your tablet can't be trusted error , but I cannot for the life of me get adb to recognize it..tried every driver I found, Linux Ubuntu as well, all fastboot commands seem to work fine, strange! If someone helps me find a stock image for it, i will will majisk the boot.img, and push it,, but I can't find it.. adb devices never show anything tried win7, Linux Ubuntu laptop, and win 10..
It scrolls strange with chrome, on internet , but not terrible, feels nice to me overall, help me find stock, and I will post screenshots , and tutorial but that's where I'm at, I have no need for twrp, just want root to remove these 3 or 3
4 Walmart apps....thanks...

Bootloader unlock proof:

(I'm a new junior member, so I can't link the video url, you will have to rename the above link - properly)
Also found you can disable and remove Walmart adds, which is a plus, still cant get adb to recognize, refer to my last post, but can unlock bootloader: fastboot worked for me, so patiently waiting for a stock image, as I can't backup my boot.img without adb not detecting the device..seems doesn't matter if rooted or not as my main goal was to disable and hide Walmart shortcuts(which it lets you do in the Apps), I don't see adds on 10.1 in chrome , as the last guy said, maybe that's an 8 issue. Google browser is buggy though..overall I like it..but I'm no gamer, hope that helped someone

Lastly, if you have big hands it feels amazing for the size, if you set to auto rotate, Portrait is how I like it (then flip when you watch YouTube), but if you have small hands and want to type, I think it's better not to buy this device...not designed right for small hands and on screen typing....just my Take
Just wanted to add my 2p to this thread:
Got this tablet a few weeks ago and have been using it fairly regularly. I can say with some certainty that, for $130, the 10.1" tablet is fantastic value for money. I say the 10.1" because it has the benefit of having 3GB of RAM. I would be hesitant to purchase the 8" as it only has 2GB.
The screen is very nice, battery life has been adequate for my uses (do not consider that an in-depth analysis), and the MTK chip inside the thing has hardware decoding for almost all major codecs. I did have to switch to SW decoding for some 10bit HEVC content I was watching last weekend, but the tablet actually handled that really well, and I didn't notice any hitches or slowdown even with the content being 1080p.
One downside, however, is that this is definitely a budget device when it comes to CPU performance. For the vast majority of thing you don't notice, but for heavier sites (such as, for e.g., Autotrader) really slow things to a crawl. Those are definitely the exception rather than the rule, though, with Autotrader being the only one that impacted me personally. And even then, there is an app for that.
Even though I am someone who used to root these devices a lot, all of the features present in Android 10 means I really don't feel the need to do that anymore. Any built-in apps can be easily "disabled", even if they can't be uninstalled (but with 32GB of onboard storage, I really don't think that would effect anyone that much). This is also entirely stock Android, so that's nice compared to the competing Fire tablets.
One thing that I do wish could be easily disabled is the little "Walmart logo" navigation icon. Again, all bloat can be removed so it's really nothing more than an eyesore. But I am exceptionally picky with that kind of stuff, so if that is the only thing I have to complain about, I will consider this tablet in good shape!
Agree with u!
I just think it feels amazing, and hate fireos, but agree with you, I'm happy with Netflix and YouTube and duolingo, so I don't know the others..and language learning audio books. ....doesn't need rooted,. But, I like making backups and making it mem light as possible..gonna try to use that FWUL to get Adb , working, still can load image.bin for root, whenever we find a stock, as fastboot works.. but even if not, this feels solid, once you disable like 6 crappy programs ..I really like it, even if it never gets rooted..I disabled all Walmart apps and a couple others like YouTube music, and went light on Google play store, no updates/sync running , happy with it.
9/10 for what I need it for..once you get used to typing and scrolling, and ooohh that sweet battery life!
I was just hoping I could find a stock image before return policy.

Stock boot and recovery images are in the stock images thread, I posted the 10 pro last night.
I can't get root on either the 8 or 10 pro. Patching the boot image doesn't work, device bootloops. If it's a non A/B, system as root device, then I'd patch Recovery and boot that way, but it didn't work either.
I'm not sure how to get root working.
Is bootloader unlocked ?
And , did you disable secure boot first , with fastboot? I'll help you as much as I can

try to flash a magisk patched boot.img as:
fastboot --disable-verification , in front of your patched boot.img (or whatever it's named mijisk edited)**" also don't know exact command offhand , something similar?
If I boot in recovery, I see secure boot enabled
Also, are you able to go back to stock? Or is it all ****ed up now
Keep me updated as I got a week left to return it, also thinking of other solutions...

FireHD 10 Suez { Speed of Lineage vs Stock } -- Processing.org sketches

Hi,
I have a couple of these 2017 fire HD tablets all rooted and experimenting with various OS's on them.
I've been working on a processing.org sketch on android for a couple years now and running into some unique FPS issues.
When I run Lineage 2022 May edition, the app runs at roughly ~22FPS
When I run the same app on 5.6.2.0_Fire_HD_10_optimized_pre_rooted_stock_rom-signed.zip I get roughly ~40 FPS.
**Side note, I built a quick sketch to post here with source code and APK but when I run it on both tablets, they are both 60FPS.. which leads me to believe something else is going on weird. The sketch just dumps a bunch of circles on the screen and displays FPS in biggen font.
Is there anything I can do to provide someone details for research or help me in troubleshooting?
I'm tempted to try a old lineage build like
[discontinued][ROM][unlocked][suez] Lineage-12.1 [05 MAY 2020]Generally just work my way up to later and later builds and figure out where it broke and stay there.
Technically I don't NEED to run lineage, but I would like really any version of any OS for the fire HD that runs quickly. It doesn't need to be the latest.
I just need something with some customizability.. run app on USB power, auto power off tablet when USB power is removed... I haven't got that far yet.. but my requirements are minor.
Additionally.
Could someone provide some links to all the various os packages I can try installing?.. Not sure if it would be helpful, but a pinned post with just url's to all?
So far I have seen latest MAY 2022 release of Lineage, then these hacked older versions of the fire OS software. Is there any others?? Please link below I'd like to try them out.
Thank you,
Take care.
any news here ?
I haven't seen anything. I was just scooping up all OS releases and running a test sketch on each one.. I can publish a simple APK file if people want to try this out. But really there are better benchmarking apps out there, mine was just simple like draw a bunch of circles on a screen and print the fps.
Thanks... I'm going to install Lineage, so if you want to me compare....

Hi Targa,
I made a post on Reddit a while ago with the same subject and realized I didn't update the thread here.
This is what I tried.
5.6.2.0_Fire_HD_10_optimized_pre_rooted_stock_rom-signed.zip I get roughly ~40 FPS.
lineage-12.1-20200505-UNOFFICIAL-suez.zip ~locked at 44FPS. oldy thou.
lineage-14.1-20190926-UNOFFICIAL-suez.zip ~locked at ~48 FPS, less oldy.
*These aren't links.
As far as the OS is concerned, with what I am using the tablet for, I really do not care which one to use.
I have some basic requirements in which I'm guessing that any of them will work.
*I need a method to power on the device when USB power is applied.
* This app would auto start that I specify.
*When usb power is removed, the tablet would turn off.
I'm putting this in a car and writing some custom processing.org sketch and since the tablet is in a 3d printed caddy like thing, I don't have easy access to the power button and need things to be automated, I also don't want to have to touch the screen to launch something. Perhaps wishful thinking.
Thanks.
crap, I bricked by tab while trying to bring it to Lineage... Guess I need to open it now.
Thanks.
Is it the waiting for bootrom message? if it is plug in the usb leave it at the waiting for bootrom message on the terminal and hold the power button on the tab, it should take 5-15 seconds and it will then just say "remove short" which in the scheme of things there was no short. just hit enter and continue. I've done 3 of these tablets.
Yes, I managed, thanks for the hint (even if I already managed before, it was described in one of the threads).

No worries, I think a lot of times its hard to write guides. I tend to be overly verbose when explaining things to help with a lot of the back and forth. Habit I guess..

Thanks.

Did you find the "perfect" Software for your hardware?
@targa which Lineage OS version did you find to be more stable? I am going to change from stock because of compatibility issues... My primary requirement is reading and watching, after getting used to higher refresh rate displays I feel its too odd to use something with lower framerates, so I want to know more about it. also I bricked my suez(FireHD 10)... and if someone can help me a lil bit please feel free to send a message.

Hi there,
Honestly, I would try them all. My only test scenario was a single app I am making for a personal project.
My requirements were pretty low. Wireless needs to work, it needs to not drain power and decent frame rate in my app. Sound isnt required.
My results were pretty mixed and when it boiled down to it. It almost didn't make much of a difference. Because I don't need a lot of features, I would probably stick with the oldest release, and the sound patch to allow head phones to work.
Which is why I would say try them all. The latest does not always mean the best in my opinion. Feel free to prove me wrong here, I am up for discussion.
Thank you,
Take care.
Hi,
my tablet is now on Lineage and I'm happy with it. But my use cases aren't really extensive, I basically use it so that my kids can watch videos and earplays and some games. But for sure it's a lot better and newer than FireOS. I believe headphones did work so far.
