Battery Draining Issues - Moto G4 Questions & Answers

I've had the g4 for about a week now and have noticed that my battery is draining by 30-40% over night. I've reset my phone yet the issue still seems to remain. Going into the battery menu under settings, it shows that the majority is being taken up by mobile standby.
Here are a few snaps from the settings/battery.

Some of that data drain could be coming from a weak signal. On poor reception, the device spends a lot of power to find a better/stronger signal and if you're in marginal areas a lot, then it's going to use more battery. There are apps that will automatically switch the phone to airplane mode and apps that will switch the signal off and on depending on signal strength. There was one I use some time ago that I'm not sure if it even exists any longer is ShutUpBatterySaver. It would switch data on and off depending on what you set it for. Another two were Autopilot4 and NoBars. You could also just turn your data off when you know you won't need it.

Try uninstalling Google Photos. I noticed a very high CPU utilization. Not visible in battery uses (why anyway?)
Even used in "local" without synchronization.
Instead, enable the embedded file manager (in the list of disabled application, it's pre-installed), and update it in Play Store.

It looks like ur signal is weak too. Try to switch to 3G and your signal should be a little stronger

Hello everyone! I have the same issue with my moto g4 (xt1622).
Signal seems always bad even when the phone displays 4g in full strength! If you look at the screenshot seems that the signal became bad only when screen is off! Is that an hardware problem or an Android bug?
Thanks

Is battery life indicator & todays plug-in wasting batte

Hi all
I have SPB pocket plus, SPB weather and SPB Diary all running on my background. I charged my battery to full yesterday night, and this morning when i woke up, it was down to 5%.
I don't use IR,Wifi or Bluetooth and i dont have any thing else running on my background except for the SPB software
So i suspect that the battery life indicator on top of my screen and on todays plugin is using too much of my battery life, even when is on standby mode
does anyone else using spb pocket plus experiencing the same problem?
and what does "today timeout" in todays setting do?
by the way, this is my today screen

I use SBSH, ot SPB. But I doubt that is why your battery is draining. It's more likely to be caused by your phone searching for signal in a weak area.
I've only had such a battery drain once...when I forgot to shut off WiFiFoFum and fell asleep whist it was actively searching for APs. Oops.
thats weird
wifitoform should shut off because you cant turn on wifi during standby mode

i think you are right,is there a way to make phone stop searching for signal after numbers of tries?

2/3 G signal strength

Is it possible to get the mobile signal strength on GT 7.7
I had try lots of ways but can't successful.
What you mean "get"? To get it as a function in your own app's code or just you want to see it?
Turn off WiFi and you'll see strength bars in notification popup (on the place where you usually see WiFi signal bars).
There are plenty of apps like this one that display signal info:

You can also get that in the About page of the device settings. What exactly are you after?
nooooo, use this one instead, this Widget is better

It's all the same data obtained from the phone. A widget tends to suck battery and performance so that's why I recommended a simpler app. Since there are a ton of them, it's really incumbent on the end user to decide what they like.
All of that apps doesn't work on SGS2/Tab7.7 (Exynos-based chipsets).
No, they work (run), but unable to show correct signal level due to a "bug" in modem FW. They always show +85dbm. So the only way to see correct signal strength is the system signal meter in statusbar.
Any way to update the modem driver to fix the Bug ?

Don't think so. Samsung does not care about it - still not fixed even on SGS2, which is already on the market for a long time. Maybe it will be fixed with ICS release, nobody knows.

Poor battery life due to radio?

Hi Everyone,
Just a bit of background, I've had my nexus 4 for just over 24 hours, and trimmed my old SIM card down to fit whilst waiting for a new one to be delivered from my provider. Last night my provider cut off my old sim, even though the new one hadn't been delivered, so as a result the phone was left with no mobile signal, but was still connected to wifi and bluetooth.
This was my first full day with the Nexus4, and I'd noticed the battery drained quite a lot quicker than my Gnex (with similar usage throughout the day), but once the sim was cut off, battery use levelled off significantly, despite still using the phone, and downloading playlists for offline use with spotify.
You can see below (where the mobile signal goes red) when the SIM got cut off, and despite spotify still downloading in the background, the battery drain slowed significantly. I should add that live very close to the cell tower, and always get excellent signal strength.
So I was wondering, could the radio be using more power than it should and contributing to poor battery life even in good signal areas?

I'm wondering the same thing. I disabled my cell service and just used WiFi yesterday because I was in an area with no cell signal. With the same amount of use and data syncing, the battery lasted MUCH longer. It was night and day.

4G Signal Reception Results

[My new Galaxy S5 does not seem to be getting great signal reception. It's constantly around -100-106 dbm. I downloaded an app that checks it every 1 minute and then produces the results in excel forumat. Other devices in my office (also on verizon) are getting much better reception
I went to the mall, and the Galaxy S5 there was around -80, while mine was -97. Obviously both Verizon. How is this possible, other than a faulty radio in my device?
I remember back in the day you could dial #228, but obviously with 4G you can not do that.
Should I return/exchange my phone?
I should add, if I power off the phone, take out the sim card, then reinsert it. The signal improves to like-84-88 dbm for awhile, then tapers off again to the -100s.
Will SOMEONE chime in their thoughts?
You can see in the circled area, if I do a restart, the signal is better for like 5-10 mins, then drops off again. I even tried to do all of these things in safe mode, same results.

Maybe you should check the signal power when you actually use your phone ( in a call) maybe is a power saving feature. Try to compare with other s5 in the same room. Could be a bad driver for modem. From my experience with Samsung it takes 2 or 3 updates to get all well.

[Guide] Supreme Battery Life Tip (Google Fi & T-Mobile)

Disclaimer: This may be common knowledge for many people, but for those not in the know or new to Google Fi, there are some great features you can take advantage of to save battery life and data usage.
So what is it?
The passed ~24 hours, I've been testing a combination of settings that saves battery usage without interfering with service (tx and rx calls and texts).
There is but one requirement: Have access to a Wi-Fi network. Then, all one must do is (in this order):
Turn on Airplane Mode
Turn on Wifi
Seriously, try it out. You'll still be able to send and receive both MMS and SMS, and as long as you have Hangouts enabled (you don't have to use this dreadful app, you just can't have it disabled), you can make and receive calls as well. Airplane mode cuts down on the battery usage by shutting off the radios in the phone for Bluetooth, Cell Service, GPS and WiFi. However, WiFi can still be enabled with Airplane mode enabled due to some airlines offering WiFi during flights. Unfortunately, this technique requires that you been in range of a WiFi signal that you can connect to. So obviously this technique won't be applicable when on the go.
Results
As I said before, I've tried this for a little less than 24 hours and battery life has been pretty solid. I left the house a little today to hit the gym and run some errands, hence the blip of cellular network signal.

2.5 Hours of Screen on Time at 80% brightness and as of posting this, I still have 41% battery left.
